Hockey? Ummm... the Canucks were out so long ago (well, not "officially" out of the playoffs 'til the last week, but you know  ) that hockey is but a distant memory out here. At least the weather's great for golf!
More of a football family here, anyway! ;)

Damn westerners you fairweather hockey fans LOL. True hockey fans follow the game no matter what. Well 6-5 in DBL OT 2-0 lead heading back to Montreal how great is that mins you we kinda fell off our gameplan after teh first tonight but we still won. Considering we only managed 9 goals against tehm in 4 regular season meetings I think we are doing very well having scored 12 in 2 games. It also helps that we are rid of Jose The Open Door and he is now in Colorado best trade Gainey made IMHO.

We are a pretty avid hockey family--husband, son and daughter all play and watch everything hockey. Of course, they are fierce Montreal fans and are thrilled today!! You can't wipe the smiles off their faces! The poor people that work with my husband--most are not habs fans and he takes a lot of heat throughout the year. He is searching out those people now and they will have a loooonnngg day! Maybe the Habs will go all the way!! Go Habs Go! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

The start to this playoffs is certainly reminding me of both 86 and 93 teams that won the cup. Not a top tier team just a team that works hard and gets the job done heres to hoping we can make the finals.

Two questions:
1 - Does Harry Neale seem depressed when the Habs are doing well and happy when they are playing poorly?
2- Did the break up the team of Bob Cole and Harry Neale because they were both too depressed about their beloved Make Beliefs failing to make the playoffs?

Funny you mention the Neal and Cole thing there is a discussion about it on the Canadiens forum about the same thing. It is kinda funny when they would call a Habs game no matter how good the Habs were p;laying there was never a comment about it usually just a comment about how the other team was riddled with injuries or how the other goalie was playing so great weathering the storm nothing about how well the Habs would be doing. I love hearing the games when they seem to whine because our beloved Habs are still playing and the Leafs are GOLFING LOL.

I was at the Sabres Habs game last one of theseason in Buffalo when they lost 3-1 I must say there are some uninformed hockey fans in Buffalo no offence to you but when they are yelling F Canada when Buffalo scores they obviously have no idea where the team members are from LOL. Briere scored he is Canadian Pyatt scored and I forget who else scored I think the Habs have more US born players on their roster than the Sabres do LOL. I mean you have what Connely and Miller that are American the rest are either Canadian or European LOL. No matter if the Sabres get by the Flyers then they are done against Jersey as I think that is who they face in the second round. HABS all the way baby

As you can tell by my user name, I am a HUGE hockey fan.
I will have to go back and catch up on this thread but just wanted to get my 2 cents in.
I am a true blue Toronto Maple Leaf fan, but can't stomach them, this year. My heart will always be with the leafs but Calgary is my team of the moment.....now for my picks,
Habs...although I am not a habs fan....sorry guys....I do want you to win this series....only cause I detest Doug Weight.....and don't want to see them advance.
Oilers.....only cause they are they are the Canadian team and my son is the biggest Detriot/ Stevie Wonder fan there is so makes for interesting game nights.
Buffalo....just cause they are playing Philly.....to see them go 4 straight would be wonderful for so many reasons, mainly Bobby Clarke, lucky for him he is married to the bosses daughter....lol
Calgary....is my pick to win the cup this year, I like so many things about this team, I think they will only get better as the series progress
Colorado/Dallas....who cares.. :lmao: Love Sakic and Modano so haven't a fav for this one.
Nashville..... I don't think they will come through this.....I think the sharks will take them but I would like to see Nashville win.....someone remind me why Kariya didn't make the Olympic team??? :confused3
New Jersey......but I also don't really care about this series, now Jagr is gone I don't think the Rangers stand a chance.
Tampa Bay....Alfredsson.....yuck could someone just smack him around a bit, loved it when Tucker smacked him around the other week....I wish I had it on record so I could watch it over and over again. :rotfl2: Also Chris Neil....please....ya he has some points this year but how could you not being on that high powered offensive team.....he should be sitting in the press box with Brashere (sp).......I still think tampa will pull this off.
So those are my picks.....please don't flame me all is in fun. Just love to watch a good game. As long as Philly or Ottawa don't win the cup, I don't care who wins as long as they are good games.
Go Leafs Go.....ooopppsss wait......that will be next season.... :thumbsup2

Wel my picks for the other series going on I pick Calgary only because they are Canadian based team. I pick Detroit as I have a friend that plays with teh Wings and if this is Stevei Y's last season I want him to make it as far as possible and then lose to the HABS. Colorado I hope loses I will laugh as they are now sadled with Jose The Open Door and his 5 mil a season US salary LOL. I want Ottawa to win because I know the Habs have owned them lateley and will continue to do so in the post season. I want San Jose to win as I know Thronton and he is actually a really great guy away from the ice LOL. As for the Flyers series I want Philly to come back and win it because I detest the Sabres almost as much as the Leafs. I would love to see the Rangers come back as I don't really want to face Marty B and the Devils in the post season if we can help it LOL.

Born & raised in Montreal, so it is genetically impossible for me to cheer for any Toronto based team. Ottawa I can stomach, but not really a fan. Can't believe I am writing this but if Les Glorieux get knocked out, I wouldn't mind seeing Buffalo go all the way. Man can they skate, and they move the puck around as fast as any team I've seen in a very long time.
Hockeychic

I agree Buffalo is quick but you wouldn;t know it from last nights game. They had a pretty good 3rd period but it really looked like they stopped skating.
Any word on Koivu? I have the fan590 on the radio at work but they just keep saying they are waiting for a update.
TSN showed a different angle this morning and his eye was definatley bleeding and it didn't look good. Pixie Dust for Koivu :wizard: , he has endured enough in his life already.

The report I heard and this was from somone who apparently has a relative working at the hospital he is in weren't told what hospital though. His left eye has been cut not just around the eye but the eye itself. As per the press conference today from teh Bell Centre Dr's are still unsure of the full extent of the injury and won't be able to gage it for another 24-48 hours as the eye is still to swollen and full of blood to see what damage may lie under it all.

Yep a spoiled rotten disgruntled Leaf fan they are all whiners and cry babies LOL... What is even funnier is that it had been there for months and no one said a word then it gets mentioned on here by a poster and voila it is all of a sudden deemed to large what a joke.
As for the HABS question that was asked here is what I know on the situation... this is a cut and paste from another post about the playoffs on another board...
Habitants is the name used to referred to both the French settlers and the America-born inhabitants of French origin who farmed the land along the two shores of the St. Lawrence waterway in what is the present-day Province of Quebec in Canada. The term was used by the inhabitants themselves and the other classes of French Canadian society from 17th century up until the early 20th century when the usage of the word declined in favor of the modern agriculteur (farmer) or producteur agricole (agricultural producer).
Unwilling to accept subordination to anyone but the Governor of New France himself, the inhabitants refused to be called censitaire, a designation they judged equivalent to paysan, who were the servile peasants in France's feudal system.
The communities of habitants were largely agricultural until the beginning of the 19th Century when the trend towards urban living escalated rapidly as a result of industrialization. Seigneurs would give long, narrow strips of land to these habitants for free, but in exchange for the land, the habitants would have to either give produce or, rarely, money to the seigneurs, OR they'd perform unpaid labour (also known as corvée) for the seigneurs.
In 1924, Madison Square Garden owner Tex Rickard was falsely told by someone that the "H" in the logo of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team stood for "habitant", a French word that in those days was used to denote the farmers of Quebec. Rickard was told that the French players on the team came from the farms and that they were therefore "habitants" or "habs". At the time, the Canadiens were recognized as the French Canadian team of Montreal as opposed to the Montreal Maroons, the English Canadian team. In reality, the team logo of the "C" wrapped around the "H" stands for Club de Hockey Canadien. In 1917, at the founding of the NHL, the team changed its name to that from the previous Club Athlétique Canadien.

I will always be a leaf fan but I am also know the leafs have a long way to go before they will ever be a competitor, so I have the team where my heart is "leafs" and my favorite team which is Calgary.....go flames go.

Go Habs Go! :thumbsup2
Just so the series will end early and my DH, who works for HNIC, can come home sooner! :rotfl2:
I grew up in a family of Die Hard Leafs fans! My sister, cousin and uncle would kill me if they read this and my grandmother would be rolling in her grave. She is probably cursing me from up there as we speak.
I have changed my views completely and now have to say...
Go Canes Go!
Please don't take away my Canadian citizenship!
That will mean that DH will be home on Wednesday!

It is an absolutely beautiful day here in Toronto. The weather is sunny and warm, the birds are chirping,... and the Canadiens are out of the playoffs!
It seems the hockey gods have made up for the error in their ways by ousting the dispicable Habs!
I don't know whats more embarrassing...not making the playoffs (Leafs) or choking on a 2-0 series lead, only to be swept out of the playoffs!
Finally we can all root for the teams we should be rooting for, Go Oilers & Flames!
In closing let me say - I have 2 favourite teams...The Leafs and whoever is playing the Habs!!!

Let me answer that for you. Not making the playoffs with a team that many of you make belief fans thought was a cup contender. I thought they were contenders for a title on the senior pga tour. :teeth:

One of my kindergarten students came to school today and handed me a box of klenix. I asked him what it was for and he says "to dry your tears for the HABS being out of the play-offs". The he says, "now you can start cheering for a REAL hockey team...the SENS"

I am so glad the all mighty leafs, who aren't so mighty and great didn't make. I was disappointed that the Habs didn't make it because I was hoping to see a Sens Habs matchup which, of course, the Sens would win.

Way back when the Oilers were playing Detroit I was in Disneyland. I heard over the loudspeaker while we were waiting for the fireworks a little something about wishes coming true. So I made a wish. Having grown up in Edmonton and never having given up my team, you can guess what my wish was. All I have to say is that so far so good. I believe in the power of dreams and wishes. Mickey wouldn't let me down, would he?! :wizard: pixiedust:

Carolina as a team has finally run out of gas and hit the wall as it would be I really hope the OIL get to celebrate on Carolinas home ice nothing better than parading the cup in the oppositions barn. I just hope if it happens teh fans are decent enough to not throw stuff at them while they make their parade laps with the mug.
