Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. Some of us are training for the 2006 Disneyland Half and for the 2007 WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news/training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

Struggled through 8 miles yesterday, but they're done and over. My foot is FINALLY better...pain-free this whole week! I'm still having bad reflux issues...that was my problem yesterday. So I just took it easy and dropped back from R3/W2 to W3/R2. Overall pace was 14:30 which will get me a Minnie medal.
Dave and Judy...your discussion on the mental aspects of the sport was very interesting. I still have problems with that...the first 2 miles of every LR or big race are the hardest. I have a whole litany of things tgoing through my mind that even I'm tired of hearing  Oddly enough, my second mile is always my fastest and once I see that my pace is good despite all the mental whining, it seems to help push through.
Dave...thanks for taking on the socks!
Amy...CONGRATS!!! What a fabulous time! :moped:  :cheer2:
Judy...having something to train for really helped me with motivation and weight loss. Once I had something more tangible to work toward, it helped me focus my training from just wanting to lose weight. Do you have any local 1 miles or 5Ks you could train for to give you something to work toward before WDW? WDW still seems a long way off, but can y'all believe it's almost May? :scared1:
Kristi...congrats on your 7 miles! Great pace!
Scott...loved your 5K race report! Congrats!
Gotta run...my parents are coming up today for Easter dinner since they were sick last week. Y'all are welcome to join us...we have ham!

Congratulations, AMY!!!! You should be soooo proud of yourself!!
More later. Am at work. Did post day 2 of my solo trip report. Alas, must now turn to work. (easier than admitting I didn't do my LW yesterday. )

Hi guys! :wave2:
It sounds like everyone is doing great! The past month has been dismal for me. I ran twice in the last month and I feel I need to really get my act together training wise.
I need a goal and I am considering the Chicago marathon. But after doing some research, vacancies in hotels are few and far between. Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels in Chicago?
Amy, great job on your 5K. Oh what a feeling. You are hooked!

Hi Everyone,
:woohoo: I did my MS Walk today - around a 15 min/mile. The MS Society did a fabulous job putting the entire event together.
The rain wasn't that bad.......but the wind was horrible. However, if I had to do it again - I would. :goodvibes

Let the taper begin!!! I did my 11 miles yesterday in 2:37:45--averaging a 14:something mile (I forget the exact time). This week I'm doing 3-4-3-6. Does anyone else have a psycho Garmin? I have no idea what's up with mine, I have the lap time set on 1 mile, but sometimes I get my first 2 mile splits and nothing else, or I won't get anything, but all of sudden on like mile 5.88 it'll give me the time for 6 miles (yesterday I got beeps at 5.88, 6.88, and 7.88 and nothing else), or it will give me some outrageous lap number, like lap 20. Is my Garmin haunted?? :confused3 I have never messed with resting time or try to customize the lap time, so I have no idea what's up.
Amy-- :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: on your 5K, you rock!! I'm glad you had such a good time. You'll find that they are quite addicting. When's your next race?
Jodi--That's wonderful about your 5 mile walk. I'm glad that you had such a good time. Stephen is using Hal Higdon's program from his website.
Mel-- :yay: that your foot is better! :wizard: for your acid reflux!!
Colleen--It's good to see you! Come and hang out with us more often.

Today I ran the inaugural Valley Forge Revolutionary 5 Mile Run in the cool misty morning. The race turned out more the 1,000 runners and was a one loop around Valley Forge Park. I was a bit nervous because the course has a good number of hills but, hey, what goes up comes down and usually a lot faster. I had a goal of 37 minutes for the 5 miles and much to my surprise I ran a 36:33, my second fastest 5 miler ever, and came in 154th out of over 1,000 finishers.

Great job on you MS walk, Jodi!!!
Goofguy, an inaugural event..how cool is that? :cool1: Literally!! :rotfl: What a great time for your run!!
Krista, WOW!! 11 miles with a 14+ pace..you are so ready for Flying Pig!! :cheer2: Have you gone to the www.garmin.com site? They have a product support number listed. It might be worth it, if your Garmin keeps going crazy!
Mel, so glad your foot is pain free!!
Cam, where's the link to your trip report? :confused3
Tiffj, 2 weeks and counting!! I can't believe 1) that I'm going to WDW for just the weekend, 2) I'm going with ONLY DH, and 3) I am walking in the MINNIE!!!
Have a great week everyone! :sunny: Anne

My 5k yesterday was my absolute favorite yet! For those who don't already know, it was called the Cheerios Challenge in Covington, GA. My wonderful dh has already updated our journal with 23 pics of it: CHECK IT OUT HERE! (http://adamanddena.multiply.com/photos/album/6). The course was beautiful and the hills kept it...shall I say...interesting. :lmao: How come no one reminded me that there were hills in Georgia? :confused3 :rotfl2: We have never ran on any kind of an incline and I am sore sore sore today. The hills gave me a bad stitch right after the 2 mile mark and I had to walk an entire interval, but we still finished in 39:48. Under 40 minutes...amazing for us! I highly recommend this race for a beginning 5k or 10k. It was well organized and there was no pressure to finish fast. It was very family oriented. I LOVED IT!
However, there was one guy running with his daughter that made me so mad. :furious: He yelled and fussed at her the entire race! He would run off and leave her and then yell at her to catch up. She was on the verge of tears as he was yelling "Keep Running!" "Why are you walking?" "You should run like this." "Why can't you just keep up?" and the list went on and on. As I ran by her I told her she was doing great and to just slow down and enjoy it. Grrr! What an awful way to inspire your kid to love running. I felt so bad for her.
Amy- Sounds like you did great in your 5k! I hope you had a ball. :woohoo: I was thinking of you as I was climbing those hills!
Goofyguy- Great placement. 154 out of over 1,000. All I can say is WOW! :earseek:
Jodi- I don't think I ever congratulated you on that WW Lifetime. Great job! That's such a huge accomplishment! :yay:
Scott- While I was at the Cheerios run I found out about another one...The Hot Biscuits Run. :rolleyes1 I thought about you and laughed. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: You are so right about me and food themes! Thanks for checking on my race!

Dena, what a great report!! :thumbsup2 Your little one has all the markings of a future runner! You are right, the course does looks really pretty..that house (mansion?) wow! and the flowers! And Cheerios for a prize, how awesome is that?? Great job on your time, too!! :cheer2:

I can't believe 1) that I'm going to WDW for just the weekend, 2) I'm going with ONLY DH, and 3) I am walking in the MINNIE!!!
Anne - I'm so with you, at least for #1 and #3. DD and her friend are coming with us, and I HOPE to do more than walk, but I'm not expecting to do more than walk.
Jodi - Glad you enjoyed the MS walk and that the rain wasn't too horrible. I hate wind, though, so I'm afraid I'd have been miserable. Good for you for hanging in there!
Dena - Congrats on your 5K! And I think that's a great time - hope I do as well for the Minnie, but with NO HILLS!
Goofyguy - Your race sounds great too, and what a terrific time!
Everyone sounds like they had good races/walks/runs. What a great weekend! Hope everyone has a good week - back to the daily grind.

Wow....the Minnie Marathon is almost here!!! :goodvibes I'm so excited for all of you who get to run!!!
Jodi: CONGRATS on your MS Walk!!! You did great, weather and all!! :thumbsup2
Dena: :cheer2: :cheer2: Wow! Great time, and even with all those hills! I was thinking about you as I was running and it made me smile! I knew you were probably out there about the same time doing your thing! :grouphug: So glad to hear you had fun and it was really well organized!
Goofy Guy: Once again I'm in awe! You had an amazing race.... :cheer2: congrats on the awesome time!
Krista: Great job on your 11 miles this weekend! Woo-Hoo for the taper!!!! BTW...my next race is a 5 mile trail run called The Summer Solstice. It's on the longest day of the year...which happens to be a Friday this year....and it runs through one of our beautiful state parks. I don't expect to be very fast since there are some serious hills. But I do think it will be fast and it benefits breast cancer so I'm really excited to be a part of it! Hopefully my SIL will run this with me b/c it might be dark when I finish.... :rotfl: it will be nice to have company LOL!
Colleen: :wave2: Good luck getting back to your running. I know how hard it is to get back into the groove once you get off. But I know you'll be fine!!! The Chicago marathon would be great....I hope you find lodging.
Mel: :woohoo: So glad to hear your foot is feeling better! And thanks for the info on PF....it feels good today despite all the hill running yesterday. I've been wearing my good asics for days now and it's made a difference. I made need orthotics for my everyday shoes. Hope you had a really nice Easter dinner :).

Krista - You should e-mail garmin. You might be able to get a firmware update that solves your prob if you have a unit that links to the computer. I don't really have any idea what I am talking about, but Sunny would know for sure. Have fun w/ the taper.
Goofyguy - congrats on your race.
Dena - Great job on your 5k.
Colleen - Is Chicago in Oct? If you do it, you will be totally prepared for disney!! In fact, you could just do it as a training run for goofy! :teeth:
Sunny - I stink at lifting. I've been doing it for 2 weeks now. I think I hurt my shoulder rowing (which i don't understand as i kayak all of the time) Anyway, I've been pretty good about lifting and stretching on M, W and F.

Hey everyone! :wave2:
Amy - CONGRATS on your 5K!!! That is a great time!!!!! :cool1:
Chimera - great job getting through the 8 miles! So glad your foot is feeling better! :goodvibes
Cam - How was work? So sorry you missed your LW - I'm right there with you this week... :sad2:
Colleen - I don't know anything about Chicago hotels, but I've heard so many great things about the marathon! DH and I may have to look into it in future years. You can do this!!! :cheer2:
Jodi - Awesome job on your MS Walk!!! And congratulations on making lifetime!!!!
Krista - Great job on your 11 miles!!! I can't wait to hear how the pig goes - you will be great! :thumbsup2
Goofyguy - All I can say is... :worship: WOW!!!! Your time is amazing!!! Great job!!!
Anne - 2 weeks... Yea!!!!! I can't wait to see all the WISHers!!! :teeth:
Dena - GREAT JOB on the race!!! I know what you mean on the hills! The only ones we have to train on here are the highway overpasses or the causeway (over the river) - and I'm not overly fond of either! :scared1: Keep up the great work!
Jackie - Just think - only two weeks until WDW! Every minute of the daily grind brings us that much closer to Minnie - Yea!!! :cool1:
I haven't posted in a while - it's been a VERY long couple of weeks! I wish I could say that my training is going as well as most of yours, but life is not cooperating. :sad2: Here are a few highlights... two Sundays ago I did a long bike/short run brick and hurt my knee. I felt a pop shortly after I started the run. No biggie - ice, rest, all is good. Last Saturday I started my 10 miler and did something to my foot (other side), and was in so much pain I had to limp back after a couple miles. The next day DH left for a week on business. My foot was okay to bike and swim, but now I had no babysitter. While he was gone our air conditioner decided not to work... Oy! And on the day he was flying back (also my birthday), our fridge/freezer decided it needed a break... double Oy!!! Sweet DH go our AC working, but the fridge repairman won't be out until this coming Tuesday.... BIG Oy!!!! Yesterday we did go to Disney for a much needed break, and my foot was sore, but okay walking - Yea!
Soooooo... all this to say, I'll be at the Minnie and am hoping to be able to walk most of it with just a few light jogs to keep pace. The tri the next weekend should be okay - there is no time limit for the run portion so I can rest my foot as needed (plus it is really short, and it's through the Magic Kingdom! :thumbsup2 )
Sorry to be such a downer. It's so frustrating to deal with curve balls when training has been going so well. Sometimes you just have to laugh at it all, though! I will still experience the inaugural Women's event at Disney, and I'll still complete my first triathlon. I doubt I will remember my finish times for anything, but I will definitely remember the experiences and the people. A huge thank you to all of the WISHers for your encouragement and support - you guys are the best!!! :grouphug: I can't wait to see many of you in 2 weeks!!!! :woohoo:

Greetings everyone!
I ran in the Fiesta de Albuquerque Marathon yesterday as part of Albuquerque's Tricentennial celebration. The race began with a hot air balloon mass ascention. It was amazing to see about 75 hot air balloons in the air over the first few miles of the course. I tried not to let it get me down that the balloons were moving faster than I was!
The course itself was very flat, with the only hills at the bridges. The weather cooperated for the first hour or so, but then it began to get hotter. It was probably 55 at the start and closer to 75 by the finish. Since there were 2-2.5 miles between the water stations, I was carrying my own.
I was fine up until about mile 21 or so. At mile 20 I was really hungry, so I did a Gu and some pretzels. Something didn't sit right, because I began to feel a little sick to my stomach. I slowed WAY down around then. I knew that I was also dehydrated, even though I refilled my water bottles at each water station. Looking at my splits on the Garmin, you could see the fade in my pace as the race went on. Once my Garmin has recharged, I will post my split times.
All in all it was a good race. But it was no Disney Marathon. For example, there was hardly any spectator support. It was a small field too, and after the half-ers made their turn to the finish line, there was even fewer people on the course. There were some 2-person and 5-person relay teams out on the course also. I was beating some of the relay teams for a while! Of course, I got tired and the relay runners were fresh, so I did not beat any of the relay teams to the finish line. But that's ok...I wasn't racing them. I was running MY race at MY pace and really didn't care what the other people were doing.
There must have been some kind of problem with the timing of the race. We didn't start right on time, but it was still a chipped race. Well, there were mats at the finish line anyway. The course cutoff was 5:30. My Garmin clocked me at about 5:12, which would still be a PR for me by about 30 minutes. My place was 94th overall (out of 103 official finishers) and 6th in my age group (of 6th). I was using the motivational mantra of DFL>DNF>DNS a lot during my race. I know that there were several unofficial finishers. As I was walking to the car, I saw probably 20 or more runners still on the course...and some of them looked to be in my age category. So here is the interesting part. Like I said, my Garmin clocked 5:12 and change. I checked the official results today. My official time is 4:43? :confused3 I'll take it! :cool1:
In all seriousness, I would not be too concerned if the discrepancy was about 5 minutes or so, but 30 minutes is a long time. I think that I will call the race director this week and try to get it sorted out.
Bottom line is I finished the marathon before the cutoff, and I know I set a PR. I finished, and I had the courage to start. I was really sick after Goofy in January. Today I am just a little sore, but otherwise fine. My 3rd marathon in 6 months...I think it is time to rest for a bit (DCL Magic cruise in the immediate future) and start training again for the DL half...and maybe (99.5 % convinced) just maybe Goofy 07.

Happy Monday!!
Mel - Congrats on the 8 miles. Glad to hear the foot is better. I hope you work out the reflux issues real soon.
Colleen - So nice to "see" you again! I've heard Chicago really is a wonderful marathon to run. Hotels are always pricey in that area, so I can only imagine the difficulty in trying to find any room for marathon weekend. Best of luck.
Jodi - Congrats on the MS Walk!! :cool1:
Krista - Taper here we come!! I have a psycho Garmin also :confused3 . Luckily I very rarely use it.
goofyguy1958 - Great time on your 5-miler!! :cheer2:
Anne - Less than 2 weeks to go before the Minnie. Yeah!! :woohoo:
Dena - Loved the Cheerios Challege pics. It looked like such a fun time (minus the hills). Sorry you had to endure the bad dad. That poor little girl...
Lynnda - Glad to hear we'll see you at the Minnie. Sorry you've been dealing a lot with Murphy's Law lately. I hope things start settling down real soon.
Paul - I'm so jealous about the hot air balloons! It sounds like a great race. Congrats on the PR. Have an awesome time on your cruise.
I had a great 8-miler yesterday as part of my continued Minnie training. I have to vent about DH for a moment. He is supposed to be "running" the Minnie with me, yet hasn't really trained for it and I am getting frustrated. Basically no LR's since the WDW 1/2 in January. I am trying to give him an out as far as saying it's no big deal if he doesn't run. I feel it isn't fair if I take the time to train but have to walk the entire thing with him just because he didn't commit to training properly. Am I just being a b****?
Best of luck to everyone in meeting their personal goals this week ;)

Woo hoo Amy, Dena, GoofyGuy and Paul!
Mel - Congrats ont he foot feeling better. The reflux is a bummer. Hope it's better soon too! I know I have a very hard time running when the stomach' snot happy.
Lynnda - Habg in there. Feel free to ven to us, we've all been there.
My weekend would sound like whining and I've done mroe than my share lately. Suffice it to say 6-miler did not happen and chances of gettign to the Mine are less than none. I don't even know if I could do 9 at this point.
Have a great week everyone! I'll try to be in a better mood later!

Hi WISH Team!
Where did last week go? I can't believe I didn't even get a chance to read about our team. I will, but figured it best to post my hello b4 it gets away again.
Congrats to all who are participating in the events. Cheerios medals :lmao: love it! Cute pics and story too. Mountains is right, no matter what uphill is not the easiest thing.
Half hour timing difference? Well, you know what you did and that is for sure. Great work! Think the hot air balloons would be a nice thing to look at while getting around.
Lynnda, sorry about all the stuff you had to deal with. I am proud to hear you are continuing with training the best you are able! You go!
I started up this weekend withthe group I played with last year on Saturdays. I need the forced commitment and look forward to playing again this year. I'm not sure to what I am commiting, but I am getting out there and that is a plus.

Dena -- Great trip report. Loved the pix and narration! :thumbsup2
Goofyguy & Paul -- awesome races, guys!
Sarah -- Different people have different takes on this, but I know Rhonda and I are planning on doing the Minnie together. She is way ahead of me training-wise, but has generously said we are in it together and she isn't looking for a PR or anything, so she will do it with me. However, if you have been training to run this event and DH knows it, it seems like he would not be surprised if you ran it and he kept up as long as he could and was then on his own. Not sure what his physical limits are, but I can tell you DH would be able to run it with me without a single hour of training (which seems so unfair, BTW). I know a lot of people would say just do it for the experience and don't worry about time, but if you have worked so hard to be able to run it, I think you should. Now, shhhhh, don't tell Rhonda I said that! ;) I am SOOO grateful she is willing to do this event at my pace.
Amy -- I thought of you ALOT on Saturday as we traipsed around U of D in the torrential rain and driving winds. ICK!!! DD is starting to wonder if it is an omen that it has rained torrentially both open house events we've attended there. However, her enthusiasm has not waned, and she left the house this morning in UD sweats and hoodie, and probably had more UD garments layered under those that I don't even know about!
Lynnda -- UGH! on the training. I can really sympathize. And I have had a migraine since Saturday night and am just completely incapable at this point of doing any kind of workout. It is not looking good for this weekend either, as we will be visiting my in-laws and there will be no time at all for a LW. Am still hoping to fit in a couple shorter LWs on the TM this week and next, but it looks like I am going in to the Minnie with my longest LW in the past month being 4.7 or so last week.
Jodi -- congrats on a successful finish in the MS walk. That is a cause that is dear to my heart so thanks to you and the others who do this event. :grouphug:

Hi all!
Goofyguy: Congrats!! Great job!!
Dena: Great job to you as well!
Paul: Wow, Great time!! Sounds like a great race. Do you mind if I PM you with a couple of questions about ABQ? (I have a post-graduation lead on a job out there and am curious about the area).
OK, now on to my life:
:headache: :headache: :headache: :headache: :headache:
I don't know how much training I will be getting to this week as, of course I am swamped at work on the very same week I have final exams. :headache: I'm going to try, but I may just be training-less until Friday morning. Today was going to be my big "get ahead on work before Finals start tomorrow" day, but of course I get in and my computer doesn't turn on and it takes IT four HOURS to come over and fix it. :headache:
In other news, I came to my senses and reduced my credit loads back down to normal full-time level for next academic year. I got to thinking that the whole idea was silly-- I'm still looking at a minimum of three semesters, so I don't know why I was pushing it. I'll be better off with better grades and leading a somewhat sane life instead of pushing through, not getting the grades to get into grad school and being miserable. So, that's settled. And back on the Goofy Plan full force!! :thumbsup2
OK, I better dash.
Happy training all!

Now, shhhhh, don't tell Rhonda I said that! ;) I am SOOO grateful she is willing to do this event at my pace.Cam - Mine & DH's situation is just the opposite of yours and Howard's. I truly don't care about time (I don't really enjoy racing), but it comes down to - can he even finish? I am the experienced runner and he has only ran the WDW 1/2. I am sure there are a lot of other marital issues wrapped up in my frustration :rotfl2: I am just upset that he made the commitment but hasn't put in the time, KWIM? I'll stop whining now :smokin:

DENA: Oh my goodness!! I ran in the Cheerios this weekend as well....and I'm in one of your pictures. #330 in your 5th picture (grey shirt and blue shorts). What a small world!! I agree that the Cheerios is a great and very organized race. I really enjoyed it. The hills are tough though. Covington is my hometown...so I run part of that course every weekend. I was very happy with my 29:52 finish. :Pinkbounc My usual course doesn't take me up the really big hills though. I usually turn down another road right before the library. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

Lynnda - We'll experience the Minnie together - finish without any spectacular times, but finish nonetheless. I'm not going to be able to train any more between now and then except for a couple of walks without risking more injury, so I totally understand!
Paul - Great marathon, whichever time is real!
Cam - Hope the migraine goes away soon. Nothing can wreck a day (or a week) faster. Glad DD is still committed to UD.
Kevin - Good luck on exams. Sounds like you've made a good decision about next semester. On to Goofy!
Lily - Welcome back! Wondered where you'd gone...
Sarah - DH is running the Minnie 5K with me too, and didn't start training seriously till a couple of weeks ago, but is one of those (like Cam's DH) who can run circles around me after a couple of runs. He's doing 8:00 miles now, and my best before I got hurt was 13:00! He's offered to either go at my pace or wait at the finish line - I can't decide which I'd rather he do.
Crazy week ahead - we're changing medical insurance companies at work, and I have to get all that coordinated before I leave for WDW. Volunteered to take over the concession stand that the band runs at DD's high school for next year (which I thought meant next year, but found out yesterday meant as of this week), so have to handle all the inventory for that and learn what I'm supposed to do. I'm still trying to walk a mile every couple of days just to remind my legs that they can do this, and I need to get some time on the bike too...

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:
Went to bed early last night in order to get up early to get some work done. OK, right after I post this I will get to work. My runs have been much better this week. I did 4.15 miles yesterday (with warmup and cool down) with 3 miles of wogging between 11-12 mpm pace. I walked to the track and did 1.5 miles on the track alternating walking and running laps. Then the track team came out to practice so I left the track and did another 1.5 miles along a trail by the river. I think then I was doing a 5 min run/1 min walk pace, but I'm not sure. After the run I iced my shins and stretched. My PT wants me to ice my shins 2x/day, and I think it is really helping. I'm not taking much allieve anymore, and my shins don't hurt quite as much. That icing is pretty amazing.
Mel- I'm so glad you don't have anymore pain in your foot. Hope it stays that way.
Amy- congrats again on your 5k. That's awesome!
Jodi- great job on your MS walk. Good for you, and thanks for supporting the cause.
goofyfuy1958- WTG on your 5 mile race! Sounds like a great event. Wow, you are nearing 7 mpm pace. I'm so impressed!
Dena- Your report on the Cheerios 5k was great. Awesome job! Thanks for the pictures. It looks like you and your husband, Stitch, were having such a great time. Too bad about the Dad yelling at his daughter. That is what I never, ever, ever want to do with my princesses.
Lynnda- good luck with dealing with all the life challenges you have coming your way. Take solace in your running, and it will help you in dealing with your life events. Glad your training is going well.
Paul- congratulations on finishing the Fiesta de Albuquerque Marathon. Wow, I bet that is a beautiful place to run. I'd love to see it sometime.
Sara- sounds like you need to have a talk with your DH about plans for the Minnie. I don't think you should have to compromise your goals because he hasn't trained for it. Sounds like you both have different priorities/goals for the race and you should make those goals clear to each other. Good luck. Hey if your DH doesn't want to run it, I've been training, can I take his place in the race? I could use a Disney fix right now. BTW what does KWIM stand for?
Carrie- don't worry about your mood. Like everyone told me, if you can't complain here, where can you complain?
Lily- good for you for joining up with your Saturday group. I haven't run with mine for the past 2 weeks now (once because of Easter and last week because of my shins). I'm hoping to join up with them again this Saturday.
Cam- great report! Thanks for posting it!
Kevin- your plan sounds like a great one. If taking 19 credits is not really going to help you graduate any sooner, it doesn't make sense to kill yourself and your GPA. Makes sense to me.
Jackie- good luck with your crazy week with the insurance switch.
OK, now I need to do some work that I got up to do. Have a good day everyone!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been posting as much. Life at the end of the school year has gotten chaotic to say the least. I have 11 days to get my ducks in a row before the Johnson "men" are left alone without supervision for several days (I am including DH in this grouping, not leaving kids alone, the 3 of them unsupervised ) And between now & then I have something every day. Training is going pretty good. I'm on the taper so of course I'm enjoying the shorter runs. We've had record heat here lately so I'm hoping that has gotten me used to it for WDW.
Dave-great job on the wog. I'm glad your shins are feeling better. KWIM "know what I mean"
Sara-good luck with DH.
Paul-awesome race!
Cam-I want a tatoo too!!
Have a great day everyone!!

UGH! Just lost an entire post I wrote. No energy to start over.
It went something like this:
Dave -- glad the shins are better.
Tiff -- alas the tattoo is gone, but it was fun while it lasted. ;) Don't wear yourself out before the Minnie getting ready for the trip.
Jackie -- don't work too hard! BTW, not sure what my weekends will be like this fall since DD is done with HS marching band. Not sure the University wants or needs parental support. Will be fun to get more involved with DS's cross country team commitment.
Alright, this is the 3rd morning of waking up with this migraine. Can't figure out what triggered it or why it is sustaining, but I think I am going to have to "step up" the drug levels to an Rx I haven't needed since before my heart surgery. Not happy about that. Will see what tonight is like. The only good thing about it is that I haven't felt much like eating.

Lynnda - Sorry training has been so frustrating. Believe me I understand.
Paul - Congrats on the Race! :cheer2:
Sarah - I don't think you are being unfair. My DH would be the same way, which is why I won't let him run with me!! :teeth: Actually, my take on it is that if he isn't putting in the effort then there is no reason you should be required to walk with him. Now if he was trying that's another thing, but not trying at all just don't cut it. :sad2:
Ok, here's my update for this week. This is my second week back to running since being sick before. I have been doing a bit of wogging, but that's ok it takes some time to get back to where I was before. I have been running 4 days a week, and going to the gym to crosstrain 2 days. Last Saturday I did a 2.5 miler (was supposed to be 3), unfortunately though it was a BAD run. :sad2: Friday night was my 27th birthday and my SIL decided that I really needed to go out to celebrate. One huge Mexican meal and 5 beers later, I was home and asleep by midnight. Got up at 7 the next morning for my run, made sure to drink plenty of water, but this run was kicking my BEHIND!! Which was obvious to everyone around me, because one of the runners I pass every day reminded me to relax my arms and quit pumping them so hard. Definate sign I am struggling to get through!! :rotfl:
My problem this week is trying to figure out how to get all of my runs in before I leave Friday morning for AKL. We are taking my DS for his 5th b-day on Friday, and I don't really want to have to run while we are there. So I ran yesterday, and I was thinking about running tomorrow, and getting my long run on Thursday. This week I am adamant that I will get in my 3 miles. Anyone have any suggestions.
Also, after my run on Saturday my ankles have started hurting. It almost feels like there is a muscle there that is tight, because it doesn't hurt until I rotate my ankle around, and then it feels like a tight muscle being stretched. When I got home from my run yesterday I took an ice bath, which helped alot, but I don't think I got quite enough ice in the tub!!
Ok, I am rambling now so I'm gonna go. I'll check back in later.

Dave - Know What I Mean? (Thanks Tiff!) Also, thanks so much for making me laugh about the dh situation. Truthfully, I am just frustrated because I feel it is disrespectful that he made the commitment but hasn't put the time into training. I take my running very seriously and I think he only runs because he is trying to please me. I had a talk with him last Friday and tried to give him an 'out' for the race and he didn't take it. Since that time, he didn't run AT ALL over the weekend. Actions speak louder than words. At this point I'd just rather have him not run and we just have a nice weekend away without the kids. If he doesn't do a LR over the next weekend, I may just be giving you a call to meet me in Albany and go in his place :rotfl2:

Hey all, I have been reading this thread since Sunday, but everytime I am ready to post something comes up (mostly the girls bugging me!) On Saturday I did approx. 3 miles in 38 minutes, I was pleased. Yesterday at lunch I went to Y and did the treadmill wogging for 26 minutes. I only have an hour lunch but it is better than nothing.
Question: I have to research the kids run for marathon weekend, but anyone that has done them.... do they allow parents to run with the kids?? I am afraid my girls might be a little scared if they have all these kids running and they don't know anyone (my 5 1/2 year old is shy but really wants to run).
Thanks!

Good Morning everyone!!!
Wow, reading all your posts is so inspiring for a newbie like me and DH. Congrats to everyone who raced this weekend, you are all amazing :thumbsup2
Dh and I are still training and doing very good I might add  . Much better then I thought we would but we have both decided we really enjoy the training and it will become a part of our lives. It becomes addicting I think.
Dh is getting a few twicks here and there so I have convinced him to start weight training....and hope that helps.
Hope you all have a wonderful day!!!

I'm so behind on the threads! I skimmed last week and this week and I'll try to reply best I can...
Congrats Amy and Dena on awsome races!
Congrats Paul on your marathon. Hot air balloons sound like so much fun.
Kevin-- I feel your pain. I went back to school as an adult while running my own graphic design business and raising my DD who was 3-7 during this phase. It was NOT easy. I'm sure you will make the best choices to balance it all.
Gramin woes-- Mines been a bit flakey, too. I'm going to go back to timing my splits with my watch as well to see if I can believe it or not. I don't know anything about updating firmware, but their site should have a troubleshooting or FAQ that might be helpful. I wondered if the receiver just has a short lifespan.
MelR-- Don't give up on weight training just yet! It really is a slow process. If you don't absolutely hate it, keep plugging along :thumbsup2
Colleen-- I'm so happy to see you back :grouphug: I've missed you!
So some of you want the eating thread back, huh? Well I certainly can use it, too. But, if I make it you better post ;) Someone refered to it as EAT when I was actually calling it TEA (Training Eating Accountability) but EAT sounds much better so we'll way it is Eating Accountability for Training!
I'm in a rush right now (as usual) but I'll get to is ASAP!
About the pushing beyond your comfort level everyday... I try to do that with almost every workout. But that doesn't mean harder faster than the last time, or the best time. It simply means when I reach a point that I feel really tired and want to stop I make a choice to push as hard as I can for 30, 60, 90 seconds or whatever. What's amazing about it is that I usually want to do more after the push. The push might be yesterday's coast, its all relative. The thing I am trying to do now is not say "I should be able to do x y or z" and just accept what I can do for today. Sounding pretty metaphysical, huh?
On that note, I'm off to the gym. My trip set me back a bit on training...

Sunny - If you start the EAT thread I'll definitely join you. I just saw a picture of myself last evening and nearly cried. I have lost all of the good that I did last year. I am back at it today with hopes of feeling a little better about being on track by my F&G trip.
Along with the EAT part I intend to use those new $120 Asics :faint: on the theadmill of at least walking every evening. I am going to start back easy and see how it goes.
Kevin - I really do think that you have made a good responsible choice in cutting back the hours. I am in grad school now and the grades are very important to getting into your choice of schools. Good luck!
Paul & Dena - Great job and thanks for the report :thumbsup2
Sara - I don't think you are being unfair at all. Good luck with DH.
Cam - I read your report and can't wait to read about the Yeti
One last thing would everyone send some :wizard: for AP codes for July. On that thread the waiting is getting to be too much for some

Wow crazy day. Been wanting to post since 7.
Things are looking better. All day yesterday I was bummed that we would not make 6 last night. Didn't feel great anyway, so I was afraid I would not even try.
Get home and dh is not feeling well. He's not going to run. Ok, so it' sme and the mp3. Before I leave, I tell him I may go 6, so don't worry. His eyes got a little big, but he didn't say anthing.
I start slow and feel ok. I figure I can do 12's, as long as I finish. Start aroun d11's, then get tired btwn 2 and 3. Still sayed unde r12. Felt better for 4, 5, and 6. Ended up with an 11:10 pace and cruised the last mile and a half! Yay! I can still run! :p
Women starting on the path by me thohought I was psycho as I did my victory dance to the music on my mp3, but I can live with that!
Forgotten funny story from last week:
Since I came off my rest last fall for my hip, dh has been talking about the "crazy guy". Crazy guy? Are you calling him crazy because he's friendlier than anyone else and says, "How are you" along with the normal "hi" or "morning"? Yup, he was. My dh is soooo conservative. I like passing the guy. He makes me smile.
So, we've been seeing him for about 6 months now. Once or twice a week. Last Thursday he stops us. DH is wearing his marathon shirt. I figured out the problem. The guy's not crazy, he's Goofy! lol. Yup, he's got an innaugural Goofy medal. Ran the marathon same as us. Who'd have thought that our little bike path in a rather remote area would be training grounds to 3 WDW marathoners? Small world.

Carrie: Great story! How cool that you guys are all training right there in the same place :goodvibes . I saw a guy with a Disney marathon shirt on at the race last Saturday. I was so nervous before the start that I didn't talk to him, just concerned about the race. But afterwards I looked for him to say "hi"...just couldn't find him. Or possibly he took the shirt off after the race? Either way, I have to say it made me smile to know that Disney marathoner was running the 5K too :teeth: . Oh and WTG :woohoo: on your run last night! :smooth:
Jen: Great job on your Saturday run!! :cheer2:
Kim: Glad to hear training is going well and you're now bitten by the exercise bug. It's weird isn't it? I am SOOO grumpy on days that I don't exercise now. LOL! I really love  those endorphins.
On that note....I should really get out there and run. For some reason I'm not particularly motivated today. But I just know I'll feel better afterwards. So I'm waiting for my lunch to settle in then I plan on doing an EASY 35 minute run today. Walk breaks and all! I'm not going to push...just try to enjoy. I'll let you know how that goes ;).

Hi WISH Team!
Carrie, I love your story. I found the same on the path I run. It is amazing.
Amy, good for you to get out even if the mood is not there. You will definitely be glad you did.
Minnie, good news about using the deadmill to break in those shoes. Starting out nice and easy is the way. Don't hurt yourself, but get moving. I WISH I had your commitment right now about it. I've found myself slipping.
Sunny, it definitely sounds like you have a great plan to get yourself in the groove and to share with others. I like the method.
Kim, glad to hear that is is becoming an addictive sport. Yup! That it is.
Sara, goodluck dealing with DH. It seems like you have your answer figured. He is trying to please you, just maybe can't. Like many have said, if you have an idea about time that would please you, let him know. Tell him you will wait for him at the end or even go back to "walk him in" after you have crossed. I've seen others doing that. (Don't forget to remove your chip first though I think.)
Jen, I can't answer the question you posed about the kids event. I know others should have that answer.
Dana, if your ankles are bothering you, don't try to push too much. I'm thinking to ease up a bit and if you can't get in all your runs this week, so be it. Pick what you can, if you want that lr, give up another. Just don't stress out the ankles. You will be probably doing a lot of walking where you are going. ;)
Tiff, Yay for your training and getting the menfolk ready for their "bachelors" time while you are away. They will be fine and I am sure will have great things to tellyou when you return!
Dave, good for sticking it out through the shin problems. Your story is a learning experience for many. Ice baths, oh yeah! Welcome to running.
Jackie, eek! Good luck with your concession stand volunteering. Remember, it is fun.
Sorry everyone else I've missed. I'm only able to go back a bit. I don't intentionally leave out the rest.
Our first weekend with my running group had our doc give us a couple of reminders I figure I'd pass along.
Walkers and runners, don't forget it is important to include other workouts in your training: weight training (not too heavy for bulking up muscles--just toning), core strengthening, stretching. It will aid in your ability.
Not sure what I will be doing, maybe I'll try to follow the advice I've just passed along.

Forgot my sport beans report.
I took them with last night, as 6 is about ht ethreashold of what I can do without something to "eat." I should have brougth water, but was too lazy and afraid if I didn't get out of the house quickly, the couch would suck me in. ;) SO, I grabbed a bag of magic beans and left. I still have a hard tiem chewing when I run adn trying to breathe, but baens are much easier than Gu if you don't hav water. They even helped quentch my thirst a lttle. SO, althuogh I will nto likely race with tehm, I will probably keep some around for the in between distance runs.

Carrie: Thanks for the report on the beans. I've been thinking that I'll be needing something during my LRs soon. I'm up to 5 miles starting this weekend. I have low blood sugar so I probably need to eat . I even bought one of those cool fanny packs from REI that somebody suggested. I can fit 1 water bottle and some nourishment.
Lily: Great reminder about the XT. Due to scheduling issues, etc I had not been doing as much yoga and KBX as I had in the past. I really notice a difference in my running....and soreness...when I am NOT incorporating regular XT. I am a firm believer that XT helps SOOO much! I'm back in the routine and getting ready to head down and do some Yoga right now :thumbsup2 .
I did get out there and run. I just took it easy and enjoyed the nice day (and seeing all the green lawns and flowering trees)! I ran for 35 minutes (threw in some walk breaks) and did 3.1 miles. A really nice comfortable pace and worked up a GOOD sweat! Thanks to the group.....you guys motivated me!!! :cheer2:

Hey Everyone: Well I made the first mention of my wanting to run the WDW Marathon to my DW. Over Easter I was talking with my BiL about running and I said that I wanted to run a marathon. My DW said "I didn't know you wanted to run a marathon." and I said how it's always been a dream of mine. Well, last night she asked me what I was thinking about and I said how I had this crazy dream of running the WDW Marathon. I said how I thought it would be a great 1st marathon to run, running through the parks with all the characters, and that I thought it would be a great reward for all the training I would have to do. She didn't make too much of it. It could be partly because I was also icing my shins down at the time, and it really doesn't look like I can run 3 miles let alone a marathon. But at least I brought up the idea... that's a first step isn't it?

I've been away from the boards for a couple of weeks, so I am again trying to catch up on everyone. I apologize if I leave anyone out.
Mel – Sorry you are having reflux issues :wizard: , but glad your foot is better. :cool1: GREAT job in getting through your 8 miles while not feeling well.
Amy, Jodi, Dena, goofyguy, Paul & Christy – Way to go on your races/walks last weekend :woohoo:
Krista – GREAT job on your 11 miles. It must really feel good getting to your taper. :thumbsup2
Lynnda – Sorry life has been getting in the way of your training. Hopefully things will get back to normal for you. :wizard:
Sara – If DH hasn’t trained & can’t keep up with you…I say leave him in the dust. :lmao:
Kevin – Good Luck with your finals! Hopefully, work will ease up while you’re getting through them. I’m still amazed how you both work & go to school full time, while still managing to get in all your workouts. :yay:
Dave – I’m glad the icing & stretching are helping your shins
Cam – Hope the migraine is better :wizard:
Dana – Hope your ankle is just a tight muscle & feels better soon. Good luck getting all your workouts in before heading to WDW. Have a GREAT trip :wizard:
Sunny – I like the idea of the EAT thread. :rainbow:
Carrie – Great pace on your 6 miles. Loved the story, certainly is a Small World. Thanks for the report on the sports beans, I’ve been very curious as to how they were. :Pinkbounc
For everyone counting down to the Minnie – I’m sure you will all do GREAT. Being apart of this inaugural event is so cool!
As for me...the week I spent with DH in Las Vegas was great. Got walk/runs in most mornings & then lots of walking the rest of the day. The cement (& sculptured cement) sidewalks were killers on my feet & ankles, but it was nice being out on the strip early in the morning when there weren't many other people out there. I had planned on using the fitness center some at the hotel, but they wanted $25 a day to do so & since I don't go to a fitness center at home, I couldn't see paying so much to do so on the trip. After telling a bunch of friends my plans for the WDW 1/2 they were very supportive & have decided they want to get out there & do some walking too. Most are also now planning on doing the local 5k in Sept. too. We have spent the last few weeks meeting at the high school track a few days a week. That has worked out great, everyone can go their own pace, yet we are all together. It has really helped keep me motivated. :cool1: The only thing that hasn't been going too well is DS ankles. He has a problem with them cracking occasionally when he walks, but now that he has been running & walking at the track the one ankle has gotten a lot worse. It cracks at every step & begins to bother him after a couple of miles. He has gone to the orthopedic doc. They did x-rays. The problem is that the tissue that holds the tendon in place is very stretched so it is causing the tendon to pop. The doc says it won't cause any damage to his ankle, which is good. The only way to fix it is to do surgery, but he is going to try an ankle brace to wear while running/walking and see how that feels. It doesn't hurt to the point where he can't walk or run, it is just annoying. I guess we will see how it goes with the brace the next few weeks and then take it from there.
Now that I feel like I have written a book....I will go try to catch up on what I have missed the last couple of weeks. :rotfl:
Have a GREAT week!

OK, enough about me! ;)
Cam - Hope your headaches get better! I can't stand al ittle sinus headache. DOn't know how you survive!
Dave - You hadn't told your wife yet???? Teach me to skim!!! Gosh it took me a year to go from first mention to let's sign up, but dh ran with me.
Karen - Those sculpted conc walks are rough, but they're good training for AK!
Lily, Sunny, and those who seem to be really busy - Hope thigns get better soon!
Amy - Glad you got out there! Regarding energy, I have lowish blood sugar too. I Gu every 4 miles and that works realy well for me. I think that's 2 pks of beans, but would need to double-check.
Minnie - Have funs with teh ASIC K's!
No one told me teh ASIC K's were pink!! Have to have them. I think it's getting close to time too! (Yes, I should be smacked. I know it's not about the color, but it is a nice bonus. ;) )

Cam - I'm a big believer in taking something as early as possible before the headache takes over your life. Hope it's gone by now, but if not, take whatever you need to make it go away! DH makes fun of my "pharmacy," but I won't get caught without what I need. And anytime you need a band fix, come on down! We're getting a new band director and will need all the help we can get.
Dana - Sounds like it wouldn't hurt to take it easy!
Carrie - Great job on the run last night!
Lily - Thanks for the reminder on the cross training. I'd been doing my morning weights and stretching long before I started running and met this group, but it's good to know that routine fits right in!
Dave - Way to break the news to your wife! I tell DH big things the same way - just a slight mention at first... then ease into the real bombshell.
9 days till we leave for WDW!!! :cheer2: :woohoo: Tonight I'm going to do the bike - hope the heart and lungs remember how to be active...

Wow 2 posts in 1 day for me....lol
Just reporting in my time. I didn't feel like walking, had a huge headache coming on but walked 5 kms. 46 mins, 39 seconds. Not a great pace, I walked 5 kms yesterday and did 2 kms at lunch today so I was a bit slow at the 4k mark. I think tomorrow will be a rest day. :teeth:
Hope everyone has a great evening.

Minnie - Have funs with teh ASIC K's!
No one told me teh ASIC K's were pink!! Have to have them. I think it's getting close to time too! (Yes, I should be smacked. I know it's not about the color, but it is a nice bonus. ;) )
But isn't color the most important part :rotfl2:
Anyways this year's Asic K's come in two versions:
white/redish pink or white/silver/turquoise
Since my last Asics 2100s were navy/turquoise I went with the turquoise as it matches most of my running stuff. Yep color is important :rotfl2:

LOL Minnie - I've got your old ASICs right now. Feelining a blister coming on so it's time fir new shoes, though. ;) Going with teh pink. Ashamed to say that my running wear does not coordinate well. Just a warnign in case we meet in teh run. You can pretend not to know me. ;)
Hockey Kim - Yikes! Thats a lot of mileage! Rest sounds good. Hope your head is better!
Well, we started out tonight adn I asked dh how far we were going. He said,"I thought you knew." I replied, "The schedule says 50 min." Mind yuo, he's run once in the last 2 weeks due to being gone and sick. He says, "40 sounds good." That was plenty as I was still sore from yesterday. I was slow, but I finished. Was faster yesterday. Twice in a row is good for me, though, so I'm glad I got out again.
Wow, I love my dsl. I can post my info at night and it does not take me a half hour!

Can anyone advise about HIP PAIN?? I have, for a few years, even before serious training began, experienced hip pain after I run. I never feel anything during my run. The pain is usually only felt after sitting for a long period of time and then rising....but it always happens the evening and next day after I run. I used to only get it in my left hip, but now I feel it in both hips. It's not debilitating, but it is weird. It feels like it's right on the hip bone and surrounding muscle, it actually becomes tender to the touch. I've found some info online and it appears to be a common runner's complaint, but haven't found any way to resolve it aside from advil LOL. My Chiro couldn't fix it...and now I'm seeing a massage therapist. I could go to an Ortho, and will if it becomes worse, but wondering if anyone has experienced this? Any advice??? TIA!

Colleen-- I'm so happy to see you back :grouphug: I've missed you!
Sunny
Ahh! That is so sweet! I am glad to be back too. I really fell off my training this past month. I was totally unmotivated. I also had a sister and her two kids down from Canada over the Easter break  . Whew it is tiring being a host for 10 days. I took her out to the Smoky Mountains for a few days and we went to Dollywood, yeehaw! Actually, it exceeded my expections :sunny: , (which wasn't hard, because they were pretty low). We had a good time, but it is now time to get back at it.
FYI for all you people thinking about the Minnie marathon.... the All Star Resorts are coming up on Priceline for $36 a night :thumbsup2 . There are a few threads about it on the resorts board if you are a gambler. I half thought about it but thought I wasn't willing to take the chance. Good luck to all Cam, Tiff and all the rest of you Minnie runners!! :cheer2:
Sara, good to hear from you! :wizard: With the husband thing!

Colleen - Is Chicago in Oct? If you do it, you will be totally prepared for disney!! In fact, you could just do it as a training run for goofy! :teeth:
Hi MelR! :wave2:
Ah, you are too funny! I am still thinking about Disney, if I go back it will just be for the marathon. Are you thinking about going back?
I bit the bullet today and registered for Chicago! Ah, me :yay: and 39, 999 of my closet running buddies in the big city! :lmao: I will be sure to give a complete report if I come out alive!

I'm waiting to make sure that the Disney trip in January works into the family plan. Oh, and to make sure my legs hold up. Just wait until I do sign up though!!! You guys will be the first to know for sure (or maybe 2nd after DW)!
Took a rest day yesterday and iced my shins. This week I decided to alternate run days and rest days to give my shins lots of time to recover.

Yesterday was xt so I did my 3 mile WATP tape & pilates. It's storming out so I guess it's the dreadmill for me today
Colleen-wow, I thought WDW was a big event. Chicago sounds huge but I bet it will be a blast! DH wants to take the camper to the smokies sometime soon & go to Dollywood/Gatlinburg. Glad to hear you had a good time. We'll miss you at the Minnie!
I am definately counting down the days till I leave for the Minnie. This is my first "girls weekend" since I've been married (11 yrs) so I am VERY excited & I think I am driving my friends crazy :teeth:
Time to wake up the bunch for school. Have a great day everyone!

Morning Everyone,
Last night it was a threadmill workout for me. I ran for 4 miles, actually I ran at 5.3 for 3.30 miles, the rest I did at a fast paced walk. I think I may have started to soon after eating - my stomach started to bug me......but at least I got the work done. :thumbsup2
Tonight is an outing for work, not positive that I want to go though......I don't really drink and everyone else seems to, can I handle three more hours of work related activity? I would feel bad if I didn't go though, just feel really awkward and feel like I don't belong around these people. :guilty:
Well, I am going to go for now - Everyone have a great day! and to all of the other admins out there Happy Administrative Professional Day :goodvibes

Kim - What exactly is a twik? :confused3
Sunny - If you were to post an eating thread I would absolutely be posting. Goodness knows I need someone to help keep me accountable for the things I am eating lately!!
Carrie - What is a sports bean? I mean I know what GU is, but I still haven't figured out what you do with it. How you know when to use it, etc. I have never heard of a sports bean before.
Karen - I have had my ankle do the same thing since I started running Cross Country in High School. It used to drive me crazy when I would sneak out of the house at night, cause I'd be walking down the road with my ankle popping every single step. :teeth: As I grew up it went away, and I have just noticed it coming back now that I am running more. Mine has never hurt though. More noise than anything else. I hope your DS is able to find a way to run without it hurting. Surgery doesn't sound like any fun at all.
Amy - I feel you with the hip pain. I have buristis in both hips, but pretty bad in my right. The only thing I have ever found to help is this one specific stretch. You have to do it at least twice a day. Lay on your back with your knees bent like you are doing a sit up. The rest your right ankle on your left leg. Grab the back of your left leg and pull your left leg towards your chest. Then switch legs. HTH
Ok, well last night I went for my 30 minute run anyway. Unfortunately because it was still pretty warm outside I didn't want my almost 5yr old to ride his bike with me, and he wouldn't let me go without him. Don't you just hate the way kids can make you feel so guilty. So, I ended up with him and the baby in the double jogging stroller. Let me tell you, that thing is a bear to push up some of those hills. It was definately a workout!! Good news is that my ankles didn't hurt at all during the run, and didn't hurt when I got home either. My shin on my right leg was a bit tender, but I iced that after getting home, and I think it'll be just fine.
I am taking today off. We are having my DS's 5th birthday with family tonight since we won't be here for his actual birthday on Friday. I have cupcakes to bake, and things to get ready. I have to make sure our bags are packed and ready to go. Tomorrow I am meeting my Mom for a run. She has offered to wog with the kids while I get in 3 miles. I will check back in with everyone later.

Carrie - What is a sports bean? I mean I know what GU is, but I still haven't figured out what you do with it. How you know when to use it, etc. I have never heard of a sports bean before.
Dana - You see, I met this guy named Jack and he told me he had these magic sports beans and they will make me run fast right to the end of the rainbow and find the pot of gold.... Sorry, a little loopy this morning! ;) Jelly Belly makes sports beans that are jelly beans that taste like Gatorade. They have electrolytes and carbs and such like a Gu, but htey are jelly beans. You have to find what works for you. I think MfM recommends every 45 min to and hour, which is about what I do too. Every 4 miles. SOme people can go longer and some can do mostly Gatorade/Powereade an dminimal food-tyoe stuff. Rule of thumb is that if you do Gu, or beans, you do mostly water. If you don't do somethign with electrolytes, you need to do a liquid like Powerade. Clear as mud? I don't worry about them until I hit the 5 to 6 mile runs.
Great job putting the steps in Jodi and Tiff!
Dave - I can't belive you'r edoing socks and shirts but are not yet signed up. You cracxk me up!

I was also wondering how Kim did in the Boston Marathon?? I am sure the info is here somewhere but I didn't see it.
Dh and I decided we will bike tonight, nothing to strenuous just a nice long bike ride along the lake. Legs are a bit stiff today, won't walk at lunch either today.
Trying to get a regular workout routine going, want to incorporate alot more stretching into the routine. Also I love the idea of the EAT thread, I am really struggling with this, since I now have high cholesteral I am modifiing what I eat and since I need to lose weight I am watching what I eat, but I know with more exercise I have to eat more or I will go into starvation mode. Man this is so hard sometimes. I still would like to lose 36 pds before the end of the summer so I can seriously start training for the 1/2.
Sorry to ramble on there....just thinking out loud :teeth:

Dave, How about telling DW, "Honey, you know how I've said I want to do the WDW Marathon? You'll never guess what I've gone and done?" Then you can register and life will go on happily ever after!

Anyway, don't let yourself be closed out of the registration. That would be horrible.
Kim, your "ramblings" are matching many of my thoughts. So I'm not thinking you are rambling. Enjoy that bike ride.
Minnie, :lmao:
I actually like the convenience of those sport beans too. Never thought about Jack or the pot of gold. Rigt on with that!
Dana, what a work out you must have had with those two. How wonderful that you were able to go out though.
Jodi, sorry about your feelings about the get together tonight. I do understand the sentiment about spending more time with coworkers rather than just going home. When we go out a a group, there are always some who don't partake of those "adult beverges," and not anything is thought of it. Plan on at least a bit of fun and maybe it will become that for ya.
I'm thinking of ALL the WISH Team members who are getting close to the Minnie. (With much envy I must add)
DH and I spoke last night of my event commitment for this season. I'm cleared for choices, just must determine the work thing around it.

Judy-- Your cruise Garmin story is too funny :rotfl2: Do you upload your runs to your pc? I bet it looks like a straight line with little tiny loop-de-loops!
Carrie-- Just last week I meantioned something to Paul that I overheard at DD and prefaced it with "but I think he is a little simple, so I don't know how accurate it might be". When he asked why I thought he was simple my reply was because he was so friendly and was talking the ears off of the DD staff. Isn't that awful? I thought it was only us cold Bostonians that are suspicious of friendly people!

Hi Team,
Well today was XT so I did my 60 min KBX class. Good, tough workout. My legs feel better since I think KBX really gives me a good stretch and generally loosens the legs. Last night my hips were aching sooo much. But today they feel pretty good :).
For those who are looking for stretching alternatives, here is what has worked super for me lately :thumbsup2 . Before my run I do some power yoga, which is basically quick movement between poses. I do the sun salutation about 5 times (more if I'm really tight). It doesn't take that long at all and your flowing through the postures quickly which gets the blood flowing, the muscles warmed up and some good pre-run stretch. Afterwards I do a 30 minute Power Yoga for runners dvd. I've been doing this for several weeks now and I really like how I feel before and after the run (excluding the hips?).
Dana: Thanks for the stretching advice. I'll have to give those a try. Maybe first thing in the morning then at night before bed!
Carrie: I need some of those "magic beans" LOL! :rotfl:
Dave: Not that we're big drinkers :rolleyes1 but I find that sharing some wine when breaking the news helps LOL! That's what worked for me. DH and I were out to dinner and enjoying a nice bottle of red wine when I decided to bring up the marathon. I don't know....it might be worth a try :confused3 . :teeth: He didn't seem as shocked as I thought he would be.
Here's a question....how many of you belong to a running club? I emailed a local running club and they got back to me right away. But looking at their results in local races I'd say I'm awfully slow, maybe painfully slow for them. Not sure running with them would help since I'd still be alone LOL! :teeth:
Also, do any of you belong to Team in Training? Can you explain that to me? TIA!

Hi, everyone! Glad to hear people are getting training sessions in.
Dave -- Please do not take a chance on getting shut out of the marathon. We haven't received any emails yet, updating on registration levels, but I THINK it was filled last year months earlier than it had the year before. And it seems the event grows in popularity each year and the risk is significant that it would be full pretty early.
DH and I received our postcards confirming that he is Goofy and I am Mickey. I am seriously doubting my sanity here. I cannot even begin to tell you how intimidated I am.
Sunny -- heading over to check out that thread. Have started attending WW meetings again, so I can use all the help I can get. Thanks!
Good news for me today is that my migraine is gone. Hoping to maybe get to the gym tonight after a school event for DS. If I could force myself to spend an hour on the TM and accomplish 4, I would be ecstatic!
Happy Administrative Assistants Day to everyone out there who makes anyone's life easier in an office. We are doing a catered lunch for our staff and did $50 gift cards to Kohls for all of them. They seem very happy with that. I am so fortunate that we have the absolute BEST STAFF ever! :grouphug:

Dave, How about telling DW, "Honey, you know how I've said I want to do the WDW Marathon? You'll never guess what I've gone and done?" Then you can register and life will go on happily ever after! Does anyone remember the old Saturday Night Live skit "Bad Idea Jeans". Yeah, sorry Lily, but this is a bad idea for my family. :sad2: I think one sure way for my DW to freak out and not be on board with the idea is if I just go ahead and do it without discussing it first.
Seriously everyone, thanks for all your ideas and good wishes about registering for the marathon. Geez, it's nice to feel wanted by the TEAM. Actually, I threw out some more hints to DW today about me running the WDW marathon and taking the family, and even though she thought it was a crazy scheme she did say that "it would be fun to go." I even broached the subject with my SIL about going down with us and helping to watch the princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, while I run, and my SIL was on board with the idea too. So I'm getting closer to getting a :thumbsup2 and going ahead and registering. It certainly would be easier to convince my DW I could run the marathon if I wasn't spending so much time icing my shins.

See, now there is where I think you are wrong. You are taking good care of your body, treating it as a serious athlete should and continuing with a dedicated and determined training strategy. I would not be at all skeptical of you in this situation. Instead, I would admire that you were pressing on, despite pain and the extra effort your plan is requiring of you. Does anyone know if there is a correlation with cooler weather and flare-up of running injuries--specifically IT band syndrome? You guys all know that I've been struggling with ITBS for over a month now and I haven't attempted to run in over 2 weeks (I made it 4 miles before the pain started on my last attempt on 4/9) and I've committed myself to walking the Flying Pig 1/2 which is next Sunday (5/7). We've had a cold snap come through OH and our temps have gone from highs in the upper 70's/lower 80's to highs in the 50's since Sunday. Yesterday, my knee started aching a little and today it outright hurts--it feels like I've been running, but I haven't at all, in fact I haven't even walked since my 11 miles on Saturday. I went out today for 3 miles (wearing my ITBS band) and made it about 6/10 of a mile before I came home because I started getting the familiar twinges in the back and outside of my knee. What gives?? Is it the colder weather making it ache? :confused3 Am I over analyzing this or being a hypochondriac?
Carrie--Sorry that you can't run Minnie!! :grouphug: But it sounds like your training is getting back on track. I know what you mean about seeing fellow WDW marathoners in the "real world", a couple of weeks ago I cornered a man at the Community Center who was wearing his WDW marathon shirt. I think he thought I was the crazy one!!
Dave-- :wizard: on breaking the news to the fam! I'm very grateful that both Stephen and I run and realize what a big deal this all is.
Jodi-- :grouphug: for tonight and the night out with your co-workers. I know exactly what you mean, I don't drink either and when I'm with a group of people who are drinking, I feel like I'm their kid sister that Mom made bring along to babysit! Plus, it's never lovely to see your co-workers lit up!!

I have just finished reading through this weeks thread - some familiar names from the 2005 Wish Walkers.
I signed up for the DL 1/2 in Sept, not knowing if I would be able to participate or not. But now I have confirmation that I can, so I am starting training this week. 4 months out is not my ideal training program, but it's better than not at all.
Last August I participated in the 60km weekend to end breast cancer walk, and after the walk was done on Sunday, a woman run over my foot in her ECV (?) and broke my foot. It was only a tiny fracture but took forever to heal.
Now I am waiting to have my gallbladder removed - the waiting list is 12 months! But the surgeon said there is absolutely no reason why I cannot run in the meantime.
I have not decided whether I will run or run/walk or walk. I will see how my first two weeks of training go, then decide.
My DH is coming with me and my girlfriend, her husband and their two girls (5 and 3). So I will have a cheer squad this time. We are staying at the DLH.
Can't wait.

So glad to finally have some training to report! Went to the gym and did:
10 mins. stretching
5 minute warmup at 4mph -- .33 miles
miles 1-2 ==>> 26:38 (13:19 pace -- this was walk 3.5/jog 1.5)
mile 3 ==>> 13:54 (mostly walking)
mile 4 ==>> 14:18 (all walking)
So, I got in 4.33 miles. Still not the more than half the 9.3 that I wanted to squeeze in before the Minnie, but done nonetheless. I know the stretching helped my hip a LOT, as did dropping my hip as I was wogging. I noticed as soon as I "lifted" it, it hurt -- just more confirmation for me that it might have to do with pulling the hamstring. Just glad to have done something, so that I won't disappoint Rhonda with a lousy pace and no endurance next Sunday -- OMG, 10 days away!!!

Tiger Lily - it's a 12 month wait due to the public health system in Canada. There are no private clinics. Gallstones and Gallbladder removal are considered elective surgery, so no queue skipping.
Someone actually recommended that once a week I eat a really fatty meal, and as soon as the pain starts get myself to the emergency room for the morphine injection....because the more often you have to go in for pain management the more "urgent" your need for surgery becomes, and then you don't have to wait.
Tonight I printed out a four month calender and set my goals for training, eating etc. Looks good - 4 months was a lot longer than I thought. I can still run 3 miles - so my long runs will start with a 3 miler and I will build up from there. It gives me a chance to run up to 15 miles and then taper before run day.
I am going to try and include some swimming this time - it helps me recover from the runs quicker. Although I don't know if that's psychological or physical!

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:
Had a good run yesterday. Still have some soreness in the shins and now my left hip too (sounds similar to what you're dealing with Amy), but I'm dealing with it. I did 3.85 miles total with my warm up and cool down walks. For my 3 mile run I did a 5 min run/1 min walk pace, and it felt really good. It put me around 11-12 mpm. I figure if my shins continue doing OK I'll just start increasing my running intervals. I have another PT appointment on Friday and he's supposed to give me some stretching exercises.
Thanks for all the good wishes everyone on breaking the news to my family about wanting to run the WDW Marathon. I really appreciate all the good wishes from the TEAM. It really makes it feel like a TEAM. Don't worry Lily, I wasn't feeling any pressure from your message. Just good wishes.

I have been a little MIA again!
I did 4 miles instead of my scheduled 5 miles on Tuesday. As soon as I started out my left hamstring felt really tight. I decided to cut it down to 4 miles since my leg was bothering me.
Yesterday I was really feeling crappy with sinus/allergy stuff, so I skipped my crosstraining. Had it been a run/walk, I would have done it though. I rested a bit instead. I just feel guilty skipping crosstraining since the Minnie is just over a week away though!
Today is a 3 miler and strength.
I'll catch up reading all of your progress later!

Morning Everyone,
Well, I went last night to the little get together - Time went by so fast, we (me and a couple of the other girls) left a half hour before the get together ended. I just wish that they would have done this on a Friday, instead of the middle of the week but everyone really enjoyed themselves.
Tonight, I hope to get in a run but don't know for sure. I am going to WW and I may be too tired to do it by the time that I get home. Thank god, I don't have to weigh in :goodvibes.
Well, have a great day everyone!

MelR- Yeah for dual suspension! It will increase your technical riding skills greatly because you will be thinking that the suspension will soak it up and ride over alot more stuff than you would with a hardtail. At least that was my experience. Especially helpful on downhills. If EC heckles, just heckle her back:)
Been swimming, biking, running. Last weekend was the longest ride and run in prep for the May 21 Half Ironman race at the World. Did 81.97 miles on the bike on Friday and then ran 14 miles in the rain on Saturday. Leave tomorrow afternoon for Tampa/St Pete. My swim wave doesn't start until 0830 and the first pros are expected to finish at 0850. There are waves including all 4 TnT waves that are after mine too. I'm a little worried about the heat on the run. Maybe by racing this weekend in St Pete and the Minnie 15K the following weekend, I'll have a little heat acclimation when I hit the HIM which I'm actually training/tapering for.

Dave, hope you can make the commitment soon. You can always tell your DW what my DW did - she does not want to take DD and DS out of school for 2 days and she simply said, "I know how important this is for you so just go ahead and do it." At first I thought she was upset with me but she continued to reassure me that she is not and actually opened up the website for me to sign up. Not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I registered for the Goofy. Now my DW is actually talking about the possibility of joining me if she can find someone to watch the kids for the weekend.
Amy, I belong to a running club - since 1999 - and at first I was very intimidated by the speed of some of the runners. However, once I started running with them I found that I was actually a lot faster than more than half the club and there were people running everything from 6 minute pace up to 12 or 13 minute pace. The attitude is that as long as you are here we will support you - no one is looked down upon. It is a great motivator.
I also am an aluminus of TnT and most likely will be a mentor (director asked me on Monday) for the Disney marathon team this year. What do you want to know about the program?
I have a question for all the Garminites. Do any of you loose the signal if running on trails and then not have the milage made up once the signal is found again? I ask because last night - during my 6 mile club run - we were ruinning about 2 miles on trails and I kept looking at the Garmin and it was reading 3.1 miles for about 10 mins. I know I lost over a mile of training distance because the course has been measured at 6 miles and change but the Garmin said 4.99 miles.

goofyguy - If your trail had twists or turns, when the signal caught up, it would be straight line distance. That's all I can think of that would skew it
Rachel - Welcome! Good luck on that surgery! Yikes! That's an awful long wait!
MelR - I'm a slacker adn most certainly not SUnny, but it seems like a break every now and then would be really good for teh muscles. Thanks fro showing us you're human! ;)
Cam - Way tp get back at it. Doesn't it feel good?
Kristy - Cold irritating things makes sense to me, but have no actual knowledge of that. :wizard:
jodi - Glad you had a good time!
Connie - If it's a choice btwn Minnie and Marathon Weekend, I think you made the right choice. At least we can commisserate on teh Minnie. :p
Lynne - Good to see you! Sounds like you've been working hard! Fit any school in there? ;)
OK, my schedule was insane last night, but I fit Curves in anyway. I'll run again toninght and have 4 workouts in for the week. Good thing, as I'll be gone alllllll day Saturday again. Nice to at least be mostly in the groove again, though.

Judy - Where are you ???????????
Hello, hello everyone. Yes, I am still here. Minnie, you doll, thanks for noticing I haven't been around. Today was (and still is) Take Your Children To Work Day, and I am one of only three people on the planning commitee. We had 250 kids here today. Needless to say, this is pretty much all I've been working on all week.
Right now...I am just plain shot. I am exhausted! OMG, this was a lot of work! This is the 8th year I've helped organize it, and this was the hardest one yet!
But...now it is over.
I wish I had been posting because actually my training is going very well. I started doing some intervals, which is very exciting for me. I feel like I am starting to make some real progress. I feel like all my time doing my standard 45 min on the TM has paid off in that I have a pretty good foundation from which to train. So, I'm getting there. :teeth: I should be ready in...ohhh...eight months or so. :lmao:
I miss everyone so much! I feel so out of touch with you all.
I should be back to normal Monday. I'll need tomorrow to catch up on all the "real" work I haven't done.
Thanks again, Minnie! :flower:

I have missed you guys so much! I am reassured by Judy's post that I am not the only one that's been MIA. :smooth: Work has kept me way too busy lately. Here's a quick summary of my past month:
work, more work, travel for work, more work, no time to train for MS150 bike ride, no time to run/walk, soccer games, work, not able to participate in MS150 bike ride because of work (but raised $900 for MS Society), stomach virus for DDs, 2 speeches to 140+ people, and, you guessed it, more work
On Monday I finally returned to the gym and did run3/walk2 for 30 minutes. I have scheduled my training for the DL 1/2 marathon and the WDW full marathon. I am going to do the run/walk program from Marathoning for Mortals. I have a relay marathon on May 20th. My leg of the marathon is only 4 miles. I returned to the gym on Tuesday and did WL and the elliptical machine for 25 minutes. Yesterday was a rest day. I had to work this morning, but I hope to get in a run/walk tonight. We are having unseasonably cool temps here. All you northerners will get a kick out of my DD's comment this morning when we walked outside and it was 60 degrees: "Mom, it's freezing!"
Hopefully I will be able to read back a bit and get caught up. At least I finally had a minute to post. Keep training everyone! :yay:

Carrie- I'm in denial about school ;) From Monday until the end of the systems portion of the school year, there are 8 class days. We have exams on 6 of them: the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 10th. We then do ACLS(Advanced Cardiac Life Support) for 2 days(no problem- done it before as a paramedic) and then it's 3 weeks of Capstone/Clinical Decision Making. That's only 18 hours of commitment over 3 weeks so plenty of time to study and train. Study- why do that? The school year is over, isn't it? Ahhh, but we physician wannabee types have these little exams we refer to as the Boards. Their full names are things like US Medical Licensing Exam Step 1. I'm taking both the osteopathic Boards(COMLEX- June 28) and the USMLE(July 3). So school=denial right now.
Judy- glad to have you back and to hear that training is going well again.
Heather- Too bad about your MS150. Maybe you can do one later in the year? Yes, I would have made fun of your daughters for their cold comment. It was 50 when we went riding today.
Since I've worked out today, it must be time to participate in activities related to that thing that shall not be mentioned. We're doing endocrine- i should get Mel/chimera to take the exam for me:)

Lynn - Best wishes on your boards and the races coming up. did you consider my offer to meet me in s. arkansas in AUGUST for a 1/2 ironman???? I would like some company! You could consider it a training event
I was planning on a ride followed by a run. I went to the Nat. Military pk and after I got all ready to ride, I realized I forgot my running shoes. I ended up riding the whole time. I got in 32.66 miles and would have liked to do more, but I ran out of time.

Hi guys - long time no type, wish I could tell you I"d been off on my travels, but no, just swamped with work and something had to give...
Glad to see everyone is still doing so well, I'm still getting out there though I haven't run for over an hour for weeks, I'm enjoying the break - but know that in about a month I have to start cranking things up ready to train for DL. I'll start checking in a bit more readily then too, it's hard when you don't have anything specific to train for when everyone else is so motivated, you feel really lazy!!
Also, has everyone has got their certificates yet *** I haven't and I want it (cue tantrum face). Well that's my lot, it's the first time I've been able to finish work at 5pm in three weeks and so I'm heading away from the computer and up to the sofa (gym was this morning so have already moved today). Calling all Atlanta area DISers!!!! Did you know there is going to be an innaugural Georgia Marathon(and 1/2) next March?!?!?!? It is starting & finishing at Underground and I talked to the lady & no, "cardiac hill" that is in the Peachtree RR is not in this route :thumbsup2 Me & mom are from ATL so I am thinking we will be doing this one, she wanted to do Peachtree next year, but I would much rather do this "smaller" event. (only 15,000 compared to 55,000 at Peachtree RR :lmao: ) It's March 25th and looks to be a really cool event.
We went to the expo last night in Nashville for the Country Music Marathon (DS is doing the kids marathon) and it was pretty good. That's how I found out about the GA Mary. I was there in the race atmosphere wishing I was doing this event. Although there's no way 1 week before the Minnie but it is a really well done event. There are tons of bands along the route & cheerleaders. DS is very excited to be getting his marathon medal tomorrow.
Heather-so sorry you wont be able to do the MS150 I know you were really wanting to do that. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do the tri I was planning on , I'll have to see how it is after I get back from the Minnie. Not much time off before I have to start back training for DL
Helen-good to "see" you again
Lynne-good luck with all those "little quizes" you have coming up :goodvibes I'm sure you'll ace them :wizard: And you have St. Pete, Minnie & IM almost all in a row too- you rock!

Good morning! :wave2: It's finally Friday! I did 30 minutes of run3/walk2 last night. It was tough, but I managed to do 2 miles in 30:48. Not a bad time for just starting on the run/walk. It is frustrating that I can actually go faster doing a walk3/run2, but I know that over time my speed will pick up as my body adjusts to running for a longer period of time. I just have to keep reminding myself that this is about endurance, not speed. I already have the speed to avoid the sweepers, now I just have to build the endurance to run/walk for 26.2 miles. I am going to try a long run of 3 miles tomorrow. Maybe I better re-read John Bingham's book "No Need for Speed" to remind myself that speed is not important.

Helen-- Glad to see you back!!!
Paul-- I will PM you about ABQ soon. I have a list of questions, all of which are at home right now....
Lynne-- Yikes. I will never complain about my school schedule again. (Ok, maybe I will.... but a lot less. Ok, slightly less... :teeth: )
It sounds like everyone else is doing just wonderfully with their training. Don't feel guilty about those days off. If you've been training, you earned them!
In personal news, I'm DONE   with exams!!
I feel like I did well-- which makes the whole waiting game for grades to come out that much tougher. We'll just have to see how things shake out when all is said and done.
Strangely enough, this has been one of my best weeks of training so far since the marathon. I've done nearly ten miles between Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (somewhere around 9:30/mile pace overall) and even a crosstraining day Wednesday. I think it actually helped matters-- it certainly relaxed me when I needed it. I'm hoping to do 6 or 7 miles tomorrow and then we'll see about Sunday.
I should catch up on some work...
Happy training all!

I’ve been wanting to say and keep forgetting, Mel—thank you so much for starting our weekly threads and keeping up with the links AND the DIS names in alpha order. That is so helpful to me!
MelR and DH enjoy your teaching. You have a lot of experience to share.
Judy, Heather, Celeste, Helen! Hi!
Judy, I am proud of your progress. It is great to read.
Heather, great to see you have planned out your training to get you to the marathon in January. It is a sound plan. Oh and for sure :lmao: at your daughter’s comment. It is going to BE 60º here and I am thrilled and will be in shorts/t-shirt wogging my way. :jump:
Helen, sorry you’ve been so busy with all work stuff. I haven’t heard of anyone else complaining that they have not received their certificate this late. Hope yours comes soon.
Lynne, good luck with all that is on your plate. I know you will do great!
Suzy, hope that you can get the aches under control. I “feel” some of your pain. ;(
Yay! for all on school breaks. Enjoy whatever time you have.
DH and I might go for a bike ride and then dinner stop along the way. The ride for us is not a race pace thing. I plan on another “easy” time of it. My first easy ride this season with my GF was 22 miles…let’s see what we can do today—no time for 22 for sure.
ETA: I just posted a question to the "Garmin" thread. I'm looking for assistance from any "Garmin-ite" that can give me a push.

Who's got hip pain? I do, too, big time. I can't quite figure out where it is, its more a med. glute pain. Sometimes I can't lift my right leg enough to put on pants. If I drop my kneck down (looking down to the ground) it pulls something awful.
Dr. Lynn?????? Please advise! Sorry to hear you school sched. is sooo busy!
Colleen-- Congrats on signing up for Chicago. I wish I could join you and your 40K friends ;)
I did something really silly yesterday. I went to a thrift shop (that part isn't silly, its my new smart idea). I saw an official Boston Marathon 100th (1996) jacket in perfect condition, size M for $3.99. I fawned over it for a moment and put it back on the rack. There's no way I could ever wear it, I'd feel like a poser... But at the end of my shopping trip, I rushed back over and scooped it up. Now I have a BM jacket in my closet that I can never wear!!!! :rotfl2: Maybe I will wear it to bed and it will bring me there one day!!!!

I have only run a couple times in the last 2 weeks, since my pavement dive. They were short but did a good job sticking to the 8 run/2 walk. However, I think someone is trying to tell me something...this morning I got a back spasm so bad it dropped me to the floor. Needless to say I can't stand up straight or sit without pain. I'm sure it will take 4-5 days to let go. So I have had to face the fact that I will be walking the Indy Mini (1/2) on 5/7. It really helps to know there are others out their going thru their own trials during training. Glad we have 9 months to get everything worked out.
Have a great weekend. :cheer2:

Hey Guys! I have a question....
The weekend before the marathon is New Years. My extended family wants to do a weekend in Vermont for New Years and do a little skiing, relaxing etc. Do you think it's wise for me to go away that weekend...in terms of training and prep for the marathon? Since it's regular vacation time, it doesn't impact our ability to take off some days for Disney so that's not an issue. I'm just worried that it will throw off my schedule right before I run?!
The good news is the hotel has a fitness center with a treadmill! That's actually GREAT b/c I don't have a treadmill, meaning I usually have to run in the cold, windy weather that time of year. I'll be on taper so my runs won't be long. And I wouldn't go crazy skiing...maybe just take it easy and relax as much as possible. Anyway, I'm just worried. Please offer any advice! THANKS!!

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:
Boy the weather's been beautiful here lately. A little cold, but very, very sunny. Feels good to get outside. Let's see, I had my appointment with the PT yesterday. He gave me some more exercises for strengthening my shins. I'll try to write a longer post later and describe some of the exercises (or see if I can find some links that describe them better than I can). I also ran at the end of the day. I picked up the princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, and we went to a local park. We each get a "walkie talkie" communicator, and they play on the playground while I run the 0.8 mile crushed gravel loop around the perimeter. I ran 3.0 miles in 33 min (11mpm). I was doing about 9 min run/1 min walk intervals. It felt OK. I still have some aches in the shins, but I ice them down as soon as I can after the run and it's OK. This morning I'm going to run with my "Learn to Run" group. We'll see how I do. It's been 2 weeks since I've been able to run with them.
TiffJ I forgot to tell you guys , at the expo yesterday for the Country Music Marathon they had some logo socks made up from "The Sock Guy" Isnt this who Dave is getting our socks from? They were very well made & looked like good running socks so I think we are all going to love them.
Cool! Yep ::yes::, "The Sock Guy" is the same company that's making our socks. Oh, I'm glad they looked like good socks to you. I've gotten a couple of pairs from them, and I'm happy with the socks.
Hi Amy :wave2:. I agree with what Carrie said. Not that I have any experience with it, but it seems like the week before the marathon is a big taper week and you would be cutting back on your running anyhow. I would want to make sure I got to bed early and got a lot of rest. And I probably wouldn't want to do too much skiing, but I guess if you're doing it all along and your muscles are used to it that wouldn't be that big of a deal either. And yeah, make sure you don't over indulge with your eating, but I guess that's going to go for all of us over the holidays too. But a trip to Vermont should be doable.
PD :wizard: :wizard: to everyone's bumps and bruises. Here's to everyone getting out and just putting one foot in front of the other.

Ya, but I would feel like such a poser!!!!!! The big question is who would part with such a thing??? My only theory is a disgruntled SO tossed it out! (no, I didn't say SOB!!!!! :lmao: )
I think I found the source of my hip pain. Duh! I've been taking DS out bike riding. He's still on training wheels and a bit too wobly on busy streets so I end up guiding his bike with my right hand on his handle bars while I run. So I'm running crooked over to the right side. Hmmmm, right hip pain starts simultaneously????? I guess I don't need Dr. Lynn to diagnose! :rotfl2:
Oh and Dave, you could try my MO for getting SO to the WDW marathon... I signed him up for the half and he doesn't even know it yet :rotfl: I hope he doesn't lurk here and discover my dark secret! I'm just hoping an opportunity arises sometime between now and oh say, October to smoothly slip it into a conversation!!!!!

Sunny-- Yeah, I totally would have picked up that jacket too. :teeth: That said, if someday I get the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon, you better believe I will never, ever get rid of my nice windbreaker. (Much like the Disney one I purchased.) ;)
Amy-- I am going to disagree slightly with the advice given to you so far. One of the things to be aware of during your taper is that you don't want to do anything in terms of training that you haven't done before, and the closer you get to the race, the more important that becomes. So, if you will be on the roads for your training in NJ, I think that hitting the treadmill the week before, if you haven't been using it up to that point, could be a mistake. For me personally, if I haven't been running on a treadmill regularly, I get weird little pangs in my shins, my knees, etc.... and you don't want to have that happen the week before. So my advice is: Go, have fun. If you can get outside and run or walk, great! If the weather or time doesn't permit, that's OK (After all, you are skiing and that is a fairly active pursuit.) Just relax, get in what you can and don't overdo it. (Just my .02 however....)
I want to shoot for seven miles today, but I won't be getting out until this afternoon. The house looks like a tornado hit it and I have to take care of that in addition to recovering from the Worst. Dinner. Party. Ever. last night.
OK, have a great day!
