Ok, so I just signed up for the WISH challenge.

I am 42 years old, 5'6.5" and weigh 185 lbs (so scary to actually type that for the world to see!).

Ideally, I would like to lose 40 lbs, but I would be happy with 30. We are going on the May 2007 Transatlantic Disney Cruise, and I want to be able to comfortably wear a bikini by then!

My plan is to drink at least 64 oz of water EVERY day and exercise (walk, jog or swim) for 1 hour at least 5x/week. I already eat reasonably well with balanced meals and moderate portions. I know I don't drink enough water, and I need to exercise. Also, if I have a snack, it is not generally a healthy one so I need to make better choices for my snacks.

I have never done any sort of formalized weightloss program. I have always managed to take off excess weight by watcfhing what I eat and stepping up the exercise. When my 3rd child was about a year old, I stepped it up and was running 3-5 miles a day. A year ago, I fell and broke my foot in two places (not running, just walking down the stairs!). This brought everything to a grinding halt! The healing process was slow. It is only in the last few months that I have been completely pain free. I have not exercised at all for the past year. I now weigh more than I ever have except when I was pregnant. The pounds have got to go! I hope the wonderfully friendly people at the DIS will give the motivation to get started and stick with it!

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

So far today:

Welcome! And congrats on getting started! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you know what you gotta do, and you're doing it! We're all here for each other...since we're here for the same reasons. Keep on posting through the good and bad...

And if you have the time, check out some other journals here. You'll meet some really inspiring people here. I don't know how far I would have made it without them! :love:

Good luck!! :cheer2:

Welcome!! You'll have no problem finding support around here. Everyone has been so motivating for me, plus just having to be accountable in your own journal is pretty motivating in itself!

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. I really appreciate it. :grouphug: I have started reading some of the other Journals and those are all so wonderful to read about the good and also the bad. Definitely for me, having to be accountable (actually type it in!) in this Journal has been a great motivation for me.

Looking over yesterday, I think maybe I should eat more earlier in the day. Definitely need to add more fruit and veg also. Didn't have any dairy either, but that was an anomoly. I usually drink +1 qt of skim milk a day. Any thoughts or suggestions? :scratchin

Then of course, there was the Tiramisu Incident! Some details: I realized around 5:30 pm last night while I was talking on the phone to my dear best friend that I was going to have to drive to the main post office (45 minutes away) to mail the tax stuff (and we won't even go into all of the sordid details of how that happened! :furious: ) Her parents live a few blocks from the Post Office, so she offered to keep me company on the drive. Left the house after 8 after youngest DD went to bed, DH said he would get the other two DD's done. After we dropped off the tax stuff :furious: , we stopped by my DF's parents house. My DF is 1st generation Italian. It was the day after Easter. Lotsa food! I insisted that I did not need to have any ravioli, ham or lamb, (I've already eaten dinner!) However, I would have offended everyone if I had turned down the Tiarimasu. I had the smallest possible piece. (It was really, really good!) I also walked out with two chocolate bunnies and a chocolate egg for DD's and a giant chocolate egg (8 inches tall) filled with toys and candy (It is an Italian thing!) for the family. Sigh!

Ironically, DD is doing a nutrition unit in school right now. Earlier she had to log everything she ate for two days. Now she has to plan (and eat!) a balanced menu for the next two days. There is no way she is touching that chocolate right now! This unit has been an interesting experience for her.
All of the DD's are thin (like Mom used to be!) and she is some what appalled at how much food she is supposed to eat! :rotfl2: Her stomach really isn't that big!

Food:
7:15a: :) 1 cherry tomato (does that even count?)
9:20a: :) Peanut Butter Whole Wheat Toast with Strawberry allFruit Jam (Total Cal: 336, Total Fat: 17 g, Carbs: 33 g, Fiber: 5 g, Protein: 11 g)
12:20p:
:) 5 cherry tomatoes
:) 1/2 ham sandwich on whole wheat
:) 12 oz skim milk (Total Cal: 313, Fat: 7 g, Carbs: 40 g, Fiber: 4 g, Protein: 21.5 g)
5p: Granola bar (Total Cal: 160, Fat: 7g, Carbs: 22 g, Fiber: 2 g, Protein: 3 g)
6:15p: 2 walnuts & small piece of beef jerky (Total Cal: 65, Fat: 4 g, Carbs: 1.5 g, Protein: 6 g)
7:30p:
Spinach & Whole Wheat Rotini Pasta w/ kalmata olives, pine nuts, feta, red onion, cherry tomatoes ?
Pear & Gorgonzola Salad ?
24 oz skim milk (135 cal, 18 g Carbs, 13.5 g Protein)

Excluding Pasta & salad - Daily Total Cal: 1009, Fat: 35 g, Carbs: 114.5g, Fiber: 11 g, Protein: 55 g

Water:
:woohoo: 128 oz

:yay: Exercise:
Walked DD's to school with jogger stroller 22 minutes, 1.3 miles (left later than we should've and walked at a fast clip), then walked 60 minutes, 3.2 miles (3.2 mph). More hills. Total: 82 minutes, 4.5 miles, 3.3 mph.

Forgive the extreme details. I am really trying to figure what exactly I am eating/doing. On my exercise stuff. I clip DH's GPS to the stroller so I know how far I've gone, how fast, and how long. Sorry, I am a geek and very detail oriented! :blush:

(I snuck on the scale this morning - couldn't help it - 182! I know it was just water weight loss, but it sure helped motivate me, especially after the Tiramisu Incident! :rotfl2: )

First of all, WELCOME! :welcome:

Secondly, I don't think I can talk to you since I am insanely jealous that you are going on the May repo cruise! :snooty: Just kidding, I think that is great! We went on our first Disney cruise in March and totally loved it! We plan on doing the Med in '08, but on a different (i.e. less expensive) line...

Sounds like you know what it takes to get to where you want to be! My WISH buddies have helped me SO much.

How old are your DDs? My DS9 (will be 10 on Sun) did a nutrition thing also and he was checking every label in the house for sugar content...

Have you joined the exercise challenge? That has been extremely motivating and helpful for a lot of people (including myself). You are doing great so far, keep up the great work! :cheer2:

Thanks for the welcome. I am planning on joining some of the challenges starting in May. I am still working my way around learning this board. Everyone seems so nice though! :banana:

The May Repo cruise is my incentive to get back into a healthy body! Our first DCL cruise was last summer to Mexico and we loved it too! Originally, we had thought we would do one of the 10/11 day Med cruises as a family, but then we weren't excited with the ports (we spent 2.5 weeks in Italy in 2004 so there were a fair number of repeats for us.) The Repo cruise is an exciting dream for DH and I, but it will be hard too, because we are leaving our two oldest at home with family. They just can't miss school (6th and 7th grade next year). DH wants to leave our youngest (she'll be just shy of 4) at home too, but I am not ready to do that.

DD is 10, and yes, we did the whole sugar content thing. I got labelled "Health Nut" since we didn't have "5 items in the house that you wouldn't expect to have sugar as the 1 or 2 ingredient" :rotfl2: I don't really think I am a health nut (not at my weight!), but I do most of my shopping at Trader Joes. My problem is all the items in the house that DO have sugar - Breyers, Girl Scout cookies, danish, chocolate chips, .... :rolleyes1

She did pretty good on her food pyramid today except for grains. She was 3 short! "I just can't eat that much mommy!"

Is there some sort of calculator some place where I can input a recipe and have all the nutritional info calculated? Maybe I should ask this on the main board?

Hi there and welcome to WISH!!! This is a great for support!!!

You are on the right track, you are doing great. Don't be hard on yourself for the goodies....we all have them!!!

If you go to fitday.com you can enter/find the foods that you eat and it will do a calculation...I love that website!

Keep up the good work! Have a great day

I love Trader Joe's! They have those blueberry bran cakes that are really good! And I am hooked on the individual baggies of almonds...

Wow, are older DDs upset that little sis gets to go on the cruise and they don't?

How are you doing today? Did you get your exercise in yet?

nutritiondata.com is pretty good too...you can input ingredients and save entire recipies.

Glad to see you are a fellow numbers geek!! I tend to over-analyze every single thing so just let me know if you need some help!

I am having a lousy day!

I so very much appreciate all of your wonderful support and I really need it today. Thank you.

I knew today would be busy and exercise would have to wait until the evening - (ugh! I hate exercising in the evening!) I did resist the angel food cake that was calling my name this morning, though and had frosted shredded wheat instead.

We finished DD2's Dr's checkup around 11 and went to meet DH for an early lunch at Soup Plantation. While going down the line getting salad, two women caught up to us. One of the women proceeded to say a number of horrible things about not moving fast enough including "You're fat!" - No lie, she actually said that! and what the heck does that have to do with how fast I go down the line! I had already suggested she go around us since I was making a plate for my 2 year old as well as myself.

No one - not family, not friends - has EVER said I am fat. I have said I am fat to DH and to myself. That's it. I was stunned and incredibly hurt. Short of insulting my children, this woman could not have said a more hurtful thing to me. Especially since it was just this week that I had joined up here and commited to work on my weight! I still get teary as I type now. Sorry, maybe I should start a private journal and not vent these things in public, but it has helped me to make a public commitment about my weight.

Later, at the drink station the other woman came up to me and apologized for her sister. It helped that at least someone else thought this woman had been mean, but still. It completely wrecked what was supposed to be a nice lunch with DH, and I can't help thinking about how a total stranger could say that to someone!

Food:
8a: 1 cup frosted shredded wheat w/ skim milk and 1/4c blueberries
11:30a:
assorted Soup Plantation salad items w/ 1T basalmic vinegarette + 1T blue cheese dressing
1c portuguese potato & chorizo chowder
1c ginger pineapple pasta
1 small blueberry muffin, 1 small carrot pineapple bran muffin w/ honey whip
16 oz 2% milk
2:40p: 2 licorice jelly beans - right before going to the dentist - I had a black tongue! :rotfl2: luckily, the dentist laughed and said he likes licorice jelly beans too!
7:30p: 10 oz skim milk + 1 licorice jelly bean (can you tell what my current vice is?)

Water:
110 oz - the only good part of my day!

Exercise:
Nothing yet...

I'm so sorry about your day. People suck!! That woman totally showed how tactless some people are. If it were me, I would have turned around and said, "I may be fat, but that can change.....you, on the other hand are an obnoxious, self-serving, inconsiderant pitch (b) and some personality flaws will never change." (i do normally spout off before I can stop myself...gets me in ALOT of trouble!)

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.... :sunny:

hang in there and keep up the good work!

Marie, you made me laugh for the first time all day - Thank YOU!

I am never good at thinking up comebacks until much later. The best I had come up with late this afternoon was "you are possibly the most horrid person I have ever seen!" Yours is SO much better! :rotfl2:

This woman was in her late 40's, not even some self absorbed teenage type. It was so out of the blue.

Marie - don't let that woman's comments get to you....you showed that you are a much better person by not snapping back at her. She obviously has to criticize other people in order to make herself feel better, more power to her, she's not worth your time. Hope today is a better day for you!!

Oh yeah, going to Italy for the first time next year so I'll have to get some tips from you!

I can't believe someone actually said that! At least her sister came and apologized, but that is no excuse - it shouldn't have been said in the first place! Like everyone else has said, don't let that stupid person get you down. It's not worth it!

Thank you all for your kind words. It is a new day and I am feeling better. I cannot tell you how wonderful this forum has been for me to get positive words. They are bad days, good days and everday is a new day.

Food is already a little sketchy today since I went straight from the PTA board meeting to Toddler class, but it will get better later today (I hope)

Food:
8-10a: three strawberries, small slice cinamon swril coffee cake (PTA board mtg)
11a: 4 strawberries, slice of cheese, small polar bear animal bear cookie (Toddler Class snack)
4p: 1c spinach & rotini pasta
7p:
1/2 ham sandwich w/ 1/2T mayo and mustard
4 sticks ea red bell pepper, zucchini, cucumber, celery
2 sticks celery w/ peanut butter
6 cherry tomato
12 oz skim milk

Water:
102 oz so far

Exercise:
walked with jogger stroller 3 miles in 50 minutes (3.3 mph) and 1.3 miles in 30 minutes. some hills, mostly flat. Should have eaten something before walking. felt like no energy for the first 30 minutes.

And Scott, ask away about Italy! We were in Rome for 6 days, Sardinia for 6 days and Venice for +2days. We had a fantastic time.

Need to scoot now so I can get my walk in.

Wow, are older DDs upset that little sis gets to go on the cruise and they don't?

Actually, I think they are more offended that mom and dad might want to take a trip without them :rotfl2: They spend a week or so every year with just the two of them visiting my parents. They know that it will be more fun with the grands' if little sister is not part of the picture. Of course, I am not sure they are considering that this time they will actually have homework, etc. to do instead of just fun and games!

Thank you all for your wonderful words of encouragement. It really does help!
I am trying to read some of the other journals also. They are so inspirational and I have gotten some good ideas from them too.

Today is pretty lowkey so I can do a better job of keeping track of the nutritional info. When I try and get more protein, the fat and calories go up, and even when I am trying, I can't keep the carbs down. I guess Atkins will never be a good choice for me. "Just eat right and exercise" is my mantra!

The angel food cake is still calling my name, but so far I have resisted. I did put the last two macaroons into the freezer. They are just too good to throwaway ... I have managed to avoid the chocolate bunnies and eggs too!

Food:
8:45a: 2 eggs scrambled w/ .5T butter
1/2 slice whole wheat toast
12 oz skim milk
(Total Cal: 432, Fat: 22g, Carbs: 30 g, Fib: 1.5g, Protein: 29g)
12p:1/2 grapefruit
2 sticks each zucchini, cucumber, red pepper, celery
5 cherry tomatoes
6 oz fat free lemon yogurt
(Total Cal: 200, Fat: 1g, Carbs: 41g, Fiber: 4g, Protein: 3.5g)
3:30p: slice angelfood cake and 15 oz skim milk
(Total Cal: 324, Fat: .5g, Carbs: 55g, Fiber: 0, Protein: 21.5g)
5:45p: 1 cherry tomato, 1 stick cucumber, 2 sticks zucchini
(Total Cal: 8, Fat: 0g, Carb: 1.5g, Fiber: .5g, Protein: .5g)
6:45p:
boneless, skinless chicken breast baked in foil with pesto, peppers, zucchini,corn, olive tampenade, and a splash white wine
1/3c wheat pilaf
3/4c broccoli
15 oz skim milk
(Total Cal: 457, Fat: 14g, Carbs: 52g, Fiber: 3g, Protein: 31g)

Totals for the day:
Cal: 1421
Fat: 37.5g
Carbs: 179.5g
Fiber: 9.5g
Protein: 64.5g

Water:
128 oz ... :Pinkbounc never thought I could drink that much!

Exercise:
nothin' yet except putting away all the easter stuff :rotfl:

The angelfood cake won. I did read the label and it said 15 servings (!) I would have expected 8 - so I cut my slice in half.

I had no idea that eggs had so much fat in them, but I really don't like just egg whites and I felt like I needed more protein this morning.
Any suggestions for "low fat" morning protein? Peanutbutter is one of my other favorites, but it is also very high fat. Should just not worry about the fat in those items?

TIA

Well, I am not going to even attempt to log my food today. Dear friends were married in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago. They had a reception back home today - drinks and pu pu's (hawaiian for appetizers). Suffice it to say I had a lot of coconut shrimp. :thumbsup2 The chicken satay was good too, and probably pretty healthy. Do the chocolate and macadamia nut covered banana slices count as a fruit? :rotfl2: At least I drank mostly water ( 1 glass of wine).

Food:
yea, lots!
15 oz skim milk

Water:
86 oz

Exercise:
??? does talking count?

Tomorrow will be better.

Hey, don't worry about it! There will be plenty of those splurge days in the future. The key is to not let the splurge turn into a week, then a month, etc.

Have you tried Egg Beaters? It is 60 calories and no fat for 1/2 cup, which is plenty filling. I live on them! Also, hard boiled egg whites are yummy. I also love cottage cheese. And yogurt. And there are some good protein shakes out there...

I don't know how you can choke down all that milk! :scared: :crazy2: Can you tell I'm not a milk fan?

This is a "restricted" milk regimem. :rotfl2: I am a HUGE milk fan. DH says I'm addicted 'cause I get really cranky if I go several days without milk. I could easily drink 1/2 gallon a day if I don't pay attention.

Well today is definitely better foodwise. I have spent some more time on fitday and I think I am getting the hang of it now. I have been tracking my food intake today and input some recipes that I like. The angelfood cake has been calling me again and I did succumb :sad2: Since it was inevitabel, I figured it was better to fall in the early afternoon instead of 9 pm tonight - I know, bad rationale. :sad2: Exerercisewise, I am definitely a slacker right now. Need to come up with some "no excuse" options for next week.

Food:
8:30a: DD10's request: 1 slice whole wheat toast w/ fried egg in the middle, 2 strips bacon, 12 oz skim milk
12:15p: leftover chicken in foil, 1c broccoli
1:15p: last piece of angelfood cake, 12 oz skim milk
6:30p: beans & franks, tatertots (11), 24 oz skim milk
Totals for the day: Cal: 1791, Fat: 59g!, Carbs: 223g, Fiber: 19g, Protein: 100g

Water: 112 oz

Exercise: nothing unless I count 12 loads of laundry ...

ETA: Food took a dive at dinner time! Both qty and choices were not good. DH is out of town and so we had "kid food" for dinner. Usually I have some fruit, etc to go with this menu, but not today. After inputting it into Fitday, we (or at least I!) won't be having this menu again any time soon!

I am only going to count my weigh in's once a week even though I have been checking every morning. The scale has been my friend all week (179.5 this morning!), but I doubt it will be so forgiving tomorrow for my first REAL weigh in. ugh! :crazy:

I do the same thing - I weigh myself every morning but only "officially" count what the scale says once a week. Your weigh-in might not be as bad as you think!

Don't you love FitDay? I used to use it faithfully, then when I started the quasi-BFL I stopped. But I occasionally check it out, just to make sure I am still OK and keeping my calories under control.

You are doing great with your water. I bet you'll get that exercise in this week! :banana:

04-24-2006, 04:21 PM
Well the scale gods were kind this morning - 179! I lost 6 pounds - yea! :cheer2: I guess most of this is probably water weight since with all that water I have been drinking my system is now completely "flushed" (TMI - sorry!) I know I won't continue at this rate. I'll be happy with just a pound a week! :banana:

In assessing the last week, I think I was eating a lot more before than I was aware of! :scared1: Definitely the journaling has helped me be more aware of what I eat. I really like Fitday :banana: Even though I thought I wasn't eating a lot proportionally, I was clearly having too many calories and way too much fat! Also, I only exercised 3X so I know I need to step that up. I have drunk way more water than I ever thought possible, and I don't feel like I am going to float away surprisingly! :rotfl:

But most of all, the support I have recieved from all of you is invaluable! Thanks again! Now on to a new week!

I did great with water and exercise today and there was not a veggie or fruit to be found in my food! :sad2: and again way too many fat grams. I need to look up stuff on fitday, etc. BEFORE I eat it. :badpc: I had a decent breakfast, but then got busy with stuff and missed lunch. Grabbed a granola bar on the way out the door to get the kids and was absolutely starving by dinner time and over ate. I have a menu plan made out for the week (that did not include Pick up Stix for dinner!), but I didn't follow it very well today.

This is more typical of how I ate prior to starting this Journey except add in 3-4 more 12 oz glasses of skim milk and remove all the water and the exercise. I can see now that even though I thought I was eating ok, it really wasn't. Good Lesson for me.

Food:
8:15a - 1/2c frosted shredded wheat, 1/2c rice krispies, 1/2c skim milk; 12 oz skim milk
2pm - granola bar
6:30p - pick up stix: 1c orange peel chicken, 1c broccoli beef, 3/4c house special chowmein, 3 cream cheese wontons!
Daily Totals (excluding the wontons which I couldn't find info for, but I know it is not good!):
Cal: +1895, Fat: +60g, Carb: +250g, Fiber: 5+, Protein: +88g

Water: 108 oz

Exercise: 70 minutes walk with Jogger Stroller (3.8 miles? I forgot the GPS today.)

Today was better calorie wise and fat wise too, except for the hot dog. Lots of running errands,etc for DD's birthday tomorrow, but I brought a granola bar as a snack and plenty of water. DD will turn 12 tomorrow - where did the years go! I had planned on getting this really great walk in along the beach after my errands were done, but the weather turned cloudy, cold and windy and I knew DD2 would NOT be a happy camper in her stroller under those conditions. So, we went to Costco instead. I resisted all the little nibble stuff except for one teeny,tiny (seriously, I don't think it could be cut any smaller!) square of cinnamon roll. I could smell them on the other side of the store. Turns out, it didn't taste nearly as good as it smelled though. They did have the GoLean Crunch cereal that several of you like. I had some for a snack this afternoon. I really liked it - crunchy and sweet! :thumbsup2

I had the munchies all day. I had the last small piece of the giant Italian chocolate egg -- OMG, I don't know if it was so good because I haven't had chocolate or because it was european chocolate, but REALLY worth every calorie and fat gram! I succumbed to another munchie attack while making dinner and had a handful of baked pita chips. It's funny I haven't really had the munchies at all so far, but today, I definitely did. Of course, TOM showed up tonight so that could explain it.

I should go look for the exercise tape that I know is someplace downstairs, but I don't think that is going to happen. :sad2: I still need to bake DD's cupcakes (so I can get up at 6 am and frost them!). Also, DH called. He is coming home a day early from his business trip - He'll be home around 11pm tonight! He will be home for DD's birthday. :cheer2: Sshhhh ... the kids don't know! They will be so excited! :woohoo: However, it does mean I better get going and finish folding the "laundry mountain" in our bedroom! :rotfl2:

So here is today's info:
8a - 1/2 grapefruit
10a- granola bar
12:40p - 3/4 Costco hot dog w/ mustard, no bun
2:45p - tiny chocolate easter egg - YUM!
3p - 1/2 c GoLean Crunch cereal, 6 oz skim milk - very good!
5:30p - handful of baked pita chips
5:45p - breakfast for dinner: 1 scrambled egg, 3 stips bacon, 1/2 whole wheat toast buttered, 10 oz orange juice
Totals:
Cal: 1194, Fat: 46g (20g from hot dog alone!), Carbs: 159g, Fiber: 15g, Protein: 49g.
Water: 112 oz :woohoo:
Exercise: None :sad2:

Hi there!!!

Happy Birthday to you DD!!! I am sure the kids are going to be so excited to have Dad home for the party!!! That is great!!!

Your food yesterday was good....don't worry about the munchies....we all get them.....I have them it seems like every day!!! I am sure it was due to TOM coming!!!

You are doing a great job!! Thanks for posting in my journal...you made a comment that if I could do it, so could you....you are sooooo right.....You are going to do this and I know it!!!

Keep it up and have a great day :)

You are doing awesome! You really recovered from your "not perfect" day by having a good one yesterday.

WHen I was using FitDay, I would plan out my day in advance, print the sheet out and check it off when I ate it. It helped a lot because I wasn't as tempted to overdo it since I didn't want to go revise the totals. If you are a good planner, it might work for you!

I'm glad DH will be home for DD's b-day! She will be so happy! :banana:

Good suggestion on Fitday. I'll try the check off method. Gotta cut this short because I can hear Teletubbies is about to start and I have to get the TV OFF before DD2 realizes it is on.

DD's were so excited this morning to see Daddy!

Congrats on the 6lb weightloss! Thats a great way to start this week. :Pinkbounc You are on your way to looking great for that cruise!

How do you like California? We lived in California for 9 years. We miss it sometimes, and younger ds is always bugging us to take him out there so he can see where he was born. We lived in Tarzana in the San Fernando Valley so I could go to Cal State Northridge (CSUN). I bet I wouldn't recognize anything - after we left Northridge had an earthquake and I've heard that the mall (ds worked there when he was in college) and CSUN both had to be rebuilt.

Hi everyone. DD had a great birthday, even aced her math test! :banana: Thanks for all the nice words.

DD chose "Dutch Baby" (German Pancake - lotsa butter, eggs, etc.) for breakfast and local Chinese place for dinner so my calories, etc were way up there. I did eat small portions and a sensible lunch though. My biggest issue is I have not exercised at all this week!! I can come up with lots of excuses, but fact remains I have got to get out and get moving or this weight will not come off or stay off! I'm not sure what it is going to take to get me going. Scale went up a pound this morning so maybe that will get me moving. :confused3

7a: 1.5 serving dutch baby, 12 oz skim milk
no snack - still full
12:30p: 6 oz FF yogurt, 1c sliced strawberries, 1 serving baked pita chips, 12 oz skim milkl
5p: 12 oz skim milk
6p: Chinese place: 1 chicken satay, 1 beef satay, 2 creamcheese wontons :sad2: , 1c sizzling rice soup, +1 serving KuTing Chicken, .5 serving PlumTree Beef, half the banana from inside the birthday banana fritter, .5 fortune cookie, 1 small glass plum wine
8p: 1 bite birthday cake
Resisted: leftover dutch baby, cocktail, rice and multiple servings at Chinese place, rest of birthday cake slice and ice cream!

Water: 80 oz at home and at least 24 oz at Restaurant (they kept filling it up before I'd finished!)

Exercise: NONE! :sad2:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is it about Teletubbies? It is completely mindless, but totally mesmerizes DD. It is a little frightening! I don't let her watch it at home, but she has seen it at the grandparents and recognizes the music.
How do you like California? We lived in California for 9 years. We miss it sometimes, and younger ds is always bugging us to take him out there so he can see where he was born. I love CA! I grew up in Northern CA and never thought I would live in the South. Now I love it here too. It has definitely changed a lot though. So much growth! The traffic on the 5 in SD is starting to resemble LA at times! Maybe as a reward for yourself you could plan a trip to DL and spend a day/afternoon visiting your old haunts!
Today was a great day! I actually got my walk in! :yay: :yay: :yay: Walked with the Jogger Stroller for 60 minutes even though it looked like it was going to rain (it didn't.) The day didn't start off great. Ate a cupcake first thing (what was I thinking?) and then decided that was breakfast! Did much better (for the most part) after that though.
Food:
7:30a - small cupcake (!)
10:30a - trail mix popcorn - Yum!
12:30p - 1.5c Chinese Chicken Salad with FF lime cilantro dressing, 12 oz skim milk
3:30p - another small cupcake :sad2:
6:30p - chicken breast, zucchini & yellow squash & onions, 2 small pieces sourdough bread, 12 oz skim milk
7:45p - 1 very small slice of birthday cake
Resisted: rice pilaf with dinner, more bread, more cake and cupcakes.
Daily Total Cal: 1200, Fat: 29g, Carb: 130g, Fiber: 8g, Protein: 106g
Water: 136 oz (!) Think I sort of overdid this one today, but I was hungry making dinner so I would just drink more water instead of nibbling.
Exercise: 60 minute walk with Jogger Stroller! :yay:
Congrats to you DD for aceing her test!! That is great!!
Way to go on the walk...I have been wanting to walk here at work after I eat and that just has not been working. So today I was going to do it....yeah it's raining...no thanks!!
Cupcakes are hard to turn down.....I know...DH will ask me to make them and I always try to say no to them, but sometimes it just does not work!!! Don't worry about it....today is a new day :)
Great job getting that walk in while pushing a stroller. :banana: Your calorie count is looking good.
Northern California is beautiful. It must be a big change moving to the south. I don't miss the freeways; although, I actually liked travelling on them when I lived there. I don't think I could do it now, though. I usually travelled the 5 or the 405 depending on where I worked. I've been to DL twice - probably wouldn't recognize it anymore either - the last time was in 1988.
I managed 90 oz a couple of times, and felt a "water headache" coming on.(that's when you drink so much water your brain starts floating and the waves make it crash into the side of your head!) wow.....136oz....i'm in awe.....
heck, between the walking and the water your body is saying, "cupcake, what cupcake....i flushed that out 80 oz ago!!"
Thank you all for your words of encouragement in my journal. It truly does help me. :love:
Today was another decent day. I ate well (except for those darn cupcakes & birthday cake!) and I decided that the housework this morning would have to count as my exercise. My heartrate was up at least part of the time and I definitely got sweaty.
Food:
8:00a: 1/2c GoLean Crunch Cereal, 24 oz skim milk, cupcake(!)
11:30a: 1.5c Chinese Chicken Salad with FF lime cilantro dressing
3:30p: 1/2c FF cottage cheese, 1/2 grapefruit
6:30p: Salad w/ red & yellow peppers, feta, and chicken and salsa; 1 slice sourdough bread; 12 oz skim milk
7:30p: 1 slice birthday cake
Totals:
Cal: 1194, Fat: 24g, Carbs: 150g, Fiber: 8g, Protein: 101g
Water: 104 oz
Exercise: I did misc. housework for 3.5 hours this morning so I am counting that and the many trips up and down the stairs putting "kid stuff" away (!) as my exercise for the day. Why are kids incapable of putting shoes, socks, backpacks, etc away? :confused3 The floor is NOT where it belongs!
Anna
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jaime, no way could I make yummy stuff for DH or the kids and not eat it. Your willpower to resist continuously amazes me! :banana:

ScoJo15 & Amy, I was so disgusted with myself for eating the cupcake first thing in the morning, I just had to go out and walk.

Amy, LOL. I am actually restricting the milk I drink right now. I love the white stuff! :teeth: The only thing better is eggnog in December! Of course, that does account for some of the excess weight I have now. :blush:

Jane, Southern CA was a big change for me. DH grew up here though. Most of my family is still in Northern CA so we get up to visit quite a bit. I still love it there too. DL has definitely had some changes. We just went to DCA for the first time last month. It was fun, but I still love the original mousehouse the best!

Marie, LOL. I wasn't really paying attention to how much I was drinking. I have a 64 oz container in the fridge that I pour all my water from. Right before dinner I realized I had emptied it for the second time. Then I had another cup with dinner 'cause I was thirsty. :rotfl: Before I started this journey I had never even emptied the container once in a single day!

Wow, we finally have a name - Anna! Thanks for sharing that!

You did great, even with the cupcake and cake. You made up for it by cutting calories in other areas and that is awesome. It shows that you can still enjoy a treat every now and then and stay within a decent number of calories.

Have you tried the Kashi Crunch with FF Yogurt? I got hooked on yogurt with granola or Kashi mixed in when I was in Germany and Norway (except then I also had to mix in a little jam because they have plain yogurt :crazy2: ). I love that stuff, it's one of my favorite snacks!

Your bones must be like titanium with all that calcium you consume!

That is great that you joined the exercise challenge! :cheer2: It really is motivating - I've been doing the monthly challenges since July and have only missed my goal once. :thumbsup2 It's addicting!

Today was not great, but not horrible either. The cupcakes and cake are finally gone, Thank goodness! Spent the morning finishing up the PTA newsletter (I'm the editor.) and the afternoon Powershopping with DD12, so once again I did not exercise (unless you count the Powershopping!). For DD12's birthday she got to buy a new outfit. She is rail thin and really tall (5'3" already!) so buying clothes for her is always a trial. We finally found a really cute peasant skirt and a couple of tops and the requisite sandals, of course, at Limited Too. :faint: Tried looking at a number of other (cheaper!) stores, but just couldn't find anything that would fit her nonexistent hips and still be long enough. Good thing it is almost summer and she can just run around in a pair of shorts and a swim suit soon!

Food:
9a: 3 pancakes w/ apricot sauce, 1 egg, 12 oz skim milk
12p: Quesadilla w/ chicken & 3T salsa, 12 oz skim milk
4:45p: Granola Bar
6:30p: picked up Rubio's on the way home: 1 HealthMex Chicken Taco, 1 Chicken Street Taco, 3 beer battered fries (blah!)
7:15p: 12 oz skim milk w/ Ovaltine (I needed something sweet)
Totals:
Cal: 1511, Fat: 35g, Carbs: 212g, Fiber: 9g, Protein: 84g

Water: 116 oz

Exercise: just Powershopping!

Anna

Amy, yes, my name is Anna. I am coming out of lurkdom. :blush:

I'll have to try the Yogurt and Kashi. So funny about you having yogurt in Norway. My family lived there for a year when I was in college. I went over for the summer and lived on yogurt! I don't like fish, and without the yogurt I think I would have starved to death! :rotfl:

My Dr laughs about all the milk I drink. "I guess we don't need to do a bone density scan for you!" Of course, I tripped on the stairs a year ago and broke two bones in my foot - so go figure!? Guess I don't want to know what my bones would be like without all the milk!

I am excited about the exercise challenge. I really need something to keep me motivated to exercise. Fitday has been great for me on the eating side of things. I can make more informed choices now about what I eat. I really like it. Now I need something for the exercise side! :yay:

Jane, I just always have a water glass or a water bottle with me. When it is empty, I fill it up again from a pitcher in the fridge. It still sort of amazes me at the end of the day when I see the how much of the pitcher is gone. The downside is I can tell you where every single bathroom is in the mall, the grocery store, etc....

DCA was better than I had expected. We loved Screamin' - great roller coaster. CA Soarin' is also fantastic! I wish we had done this one again, but the lines were too long. My older girls did TOT with DH. We all did the Sun Wheel ferris wheel with the moving car -- that was a big mistake. DD2 was petrified and wanted OFF as soon as the car started to move. The rest of us weren't to thrilled with all the rocking either. We had park hopper tickets so we went to DL early, then to DCA and then back to DL for the fireworks show (Awesome, by the way!) I am not sure I would want to just spend the day at DCA.

Thank you for visiting my journal. Your comments are really helpful for me and I very much appreciate them. Off to try and read some journals now ...

As the daughter of a former Dairy Farmer...THANK YOU for your support!! :teeth:
I grew up on whole milk....none of that store bought stuff....we went out to the barn a couple hours after milking and got it out of the cooler!! best stuff around. I was 25 before I could drink store bought milk :crazy:
Of course, when I got pregnant w/ DD, i became lactose intolerant and couldn't even look at the stuff!! now, almost 7 yrs later, i can handle a glass of chocolate milk w/ no problem....go figure!! oh, and as far as the strong bones.....neither me, nor my sisters have ever broken any bones (except my 3 fingers when i got drunk on my 21st b-day), so i guess the stuff really works!!!

My DS10 is very tall as well - 4'10" and 73lbs... Yep, the definition of string bean... He is 95th percentile in height and 75th in weight... He will be taller than me by the time he is out of elementary school - he only has 6" to go! How am I going to drag him to his room then?!? :confused3

Weigh-in this morning (Monday) was 177. I lost another 2 pounds! :banana: This will be my starting weight for the May Challenge. As long as I am losing at least 1/wk, I’m happy. Since I the 6 pounds I lost last week seems to have stayed off, I am changing my clippie today! :banana: On this second week of my journey I feel like I have gotten my eating reasonably under control. I still need to eat more fruits and veggies, and watch for fat. Fitday.com has been great for me in this area. The next piece of the puzzle will be getting in my exercise. At least with the exercise challenge, I’m motivated to get out and get my exercise in! Thanks Amy! :yay:

Sunday my eating was not great, but ok. DH usually takes over the cooking on the weekends :love: His meals are not exactly “balanced” though. He is not a big veggie eater at all. He made waffles for breakfast and then since the weather was nice ( :sunny: finally!) he decided to grill burgers and make fries for dinner. (The French fries were the veggie!) He also bought chocolate chip cookie dough ….this is going to be a huge temptation for me to resist this week ( :sad2: sigh).

Food:
9:30a: 1 homemade waffle w/ butter and peach sauce (yum!), 12 oz skim milk
12:30p: ¼ cantaloupe, 6 slices deli ham
5:30p: grilled hamburger, 4 french fries, 12 oz skim milk
Totals:
Cal: 1295, Fat: 43g, Carbs: 160, Fiber: 6g, Protein: 70g

Water: 106 oz

Exercise: nothing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. It really, really does help me keep going. Last night I wanted something to eat around 9:30p, but I resisted because I knew I didn't want to have to journal that late night snack! So thanks for keeping me honest all! :banana:
Marie, Chocolate milk is yummy! We are big Dairy supporters! I usually buy 2 gallons of skim, 2-3 gallons of 2%, and 1 gallon of whole milk every week. DD12 & 10 drink 2%, and DD2 still drinks whole. All my kids are skinny and the Dr says to get fat into them any way I can (go figure!). I switched from 2% to skim several years ago. It was a hard transition, but it was better than cutting down on the milk I drink! :rotfl2: DH was pouring half and half on his cereal when we first started dating. I have gotten him down to 2% now. :rotfl:
Amy, the cupcakes are gone, but now there is the cookie dough.... Thanks for doing the May Exercise Challenge. I am really looking forward to the motivation! :yay:
There are a few things I can't have in the house because they will trigger a binge - Cool Whip, cheesecake, ice cream and cookie dough. I suggest making all the cookies and sending them to work with DH! If you can behave with the cookie dough, you are doing A-OK!
Congrats on the loss! You are really doing great. :banana:
What kind of exercising are you going to be doing? Do you go to a gym or do you work out at home? Any exercise videos you do?
Anna - great job!! All of us have our snack/food vices and remember that things are ok in moderation (at least that's what I tell myself when I'm around cheesecake, lasagna or Reesee's Peanut Butter cups!)
I saw that you were looking for something like fitday to help you with your exercise motivation. I'd suggest using any equipment that will give you a calories burned readout. That way you can equate the exercise you are doing to certain foods and hopefully find some motivation to work off some calories (I bypassed a bag of M&M's the other day by thinking "that's about 30 minutes on the elliptical"...) :)
Keep up the great work!!
Congrats on the 6lb weightloss and the new clippie! You're doing great! :jumping1: I hope you're better at resisting choc chip cookie dough than I am at caramels! Those caramels were nothing but trouble from the moment I bought them. No more Rachel Rey desserts!
The cookie dough continues to haunt me. So far I have resisted. The package is unopened and I moved it to the frig in the garage so I at least I don't see it every time I get my water pitcher out (but I still know its there ...)
Today was a pretty good day. I didn't get my full hour of exercise in, but at least I did something. I did a 30 minute exercise video .OMG, I had forgotten how completely uncoordinated I am! -insert clippie of tripping and falling down! The planned walk to pick up the kids from school got nixed though. DH called. He was leaving on a business trip this evening and the trip just got extended a day. I met him for lunch and brought another day of clothes for him. Just made it back in time to do drive pick up for the kids. Food wise, I felt like I did pretty well. By dinner time I had only had 9g of Fat so I had a big splurge and had Pesto for dinner.
Food:
8:15a: GoLean Crunch, 24 oz skim milk, 1/4 cantaloupe
12:30p: Carls Jr Grilled Chicken Salad w/ vinegarette
3:15p: apple, 1/2 c FF cottage cheese
6:30p: pesto w/ whole wheat pasta, 1T pine nuts, glass of wine, 1 jelly bean
Totals:
Cal: 1248, Fat: 32g, Carbs: 144g, Fiber: 28g, Protein: 89g
Water: 108 oz
Exercise: 30 minute Abs & buns exercise video
Anna
I wish I could send the cookies to work with DH, but he just left on another business trip (so why did he buy the darn cookie dough!?). As long as it is not open, I think I'll be ok, I hope. So far the kids have not asked for them yet.
For exercise I usually walk with DD2 in the jogger stroller. Today I tried an exercise video. I will be sore in the morning, I'm sure. I really like a cardio workout better right now though. I remember liking the cal burned feature when I worked out at the gym. Our neighborhood is really hilly, so that makes it more interesting.
Thanks all for your great encouragement. Even though I didn't get a full workout in today, I feel good that I at least did something! :yay:
Great job getting that cookie dough out of sight!
And a workout is a workout, no matter what! At least you got 30min in, that is great! :cheer2:
Watch out! That cookie dough is bad stuff. About 16 years ago I broke a tooth on it. I was keeping it in the freezer so I wouldn't be tempted but decided to have 'just a little'. The next thing I knew my tooth was broken. Between the frozen cookie dough, Milk Duds and caramels I'm lucky I have teeth at all. (My dentist just loves his new porche!) Just kidding
So far so good on the cookie dough. As long as the tube stays unopened, I think I'll be ok. Once it is open though, all bets are off! I just "nibble" but pretty soon it is half gone! :sad2: Completely not necessary to cook the stuff, plenty good straight from the tube!
Today was a pretty good day. I went to the post office and DIDN'T go to the drivethru donut place. :banana: That's a first! I also got a great walk in along the Beach! :cheer2: Not quite an hour, but really good for my soul. Something about listening to the waves always makes me feel happy.
Food:
8:15a: Whole wheat toast w/ 1T PB and 1/2T blueberry jam, 4 oz OJ
11a: Granola Bar
1:20p: FF yogurt, 4 baked pita chips
3:30p: granola bar
5:30p: chicken w/ garlic, onions, peppers; 1/2c peas, 4 oz white wine
Note to self: DON'T freeze the cookie dough! :scared1:
I was tempted to make cookies tonight after dinner, but I finished all the skim milk (gotta go to the store tomorrow!). What's the point of cookies without milk?
LOL. No secret on the jelly beans. There was only one black one and the rest were all the "yucky" colors (pink and purple). :rotfl:
That beach walk sounds beautiful. I can never get over how much more difficult the sand is to walk on than the pavement. Whenever I think I'm doing well I head over to the beach and it always takes me twice as long.
Way to go with avoiding those donuts! :thumbsup2
Well I had a major hectic day yesterday (Wednesday) and today is not going much better. PTA president had major changes for the newsletter this morning (supposed to be at the printers already), both older girls had Orthodontist appointments (DD10 got her braces off! :banana: ) and then DD12 had her 12 year old check up. Spent the morning frantically getting the PTA newsletter redone, got it to the printer around 11, had a decent lunch, played with DD2 who had been parked in front of the TV all morning, left the house at 1:30 to pick the kids up and didn't make it home again until 6pm, had KFC for dinner (blah!) then took DD10 back out to pick out the promised "sticky" candy for the new "braces-less" teeth! Home again, homework, and I'm in bed 10 minutes after the kids go down. Completely missed my workout (Thanks PTA newsletter!). I didn't even get to the grocery store which is bad because I have now been 2 days without milk and I'm getting really cranky! The only good thing is I was too busy to even think about the cookie dough!
Food:
9:30a - grabbed an oatmeal-to-go bar while working on the newsletter at the computer, pretty tasty, but good golly what a lot of carbs!
12:45p - 1/4 cantaloupe, 6 sliced deli ham, 1 serving baked pita chips
3:30p - granola bar
6:00p - KFC: 6 Boneless Honey BBQ wings! I was exhausted and made a bad choice. They weren't even that good!
Eating wise, I completely fell off the wagon today. On his way home from the airport last night, DH stopped and got milk for me :cloud9: , however, he also brought home Cinnabons! So I had 1/2 of a Cinnabon with a big glass of milk this morning for breakfast. I did pass up the bagels and cream cheese at the PTA board meeting and the strawberries and shortcake at Toddler class. I even passed up lunch because the cinnabon didn't sit well apparently (TMI sorry!) By the late afternoon I was feeling like I could eat again so I had a decent snack. Then I played bunco and ATE! The good news is I did get my exercise in for the day. It was a "bellydance workout" on FitTV - :rotfl2: won't be doing that again! I'm sure if anyone had seen me they would have thought I was having some sort of seizure! :rotfl:
Food:
7:45a: 1/2 cinnabon, 15 oz skim milk
4:00p: 1/2c FF cottage cheese w/ olives, 1/3c walnuts
7 - 9:30p: potato chips and dip, fritos, 2 pieces of Garlic Chicken Pizza (yum!), green salad, 1 glass white wine, mixed nuts, chocolate covered fruit, 2 chocolate covered cheesecake bite things.
Totals: ????
Water: 108 oz
Exercise: 45 minute "bellydance workout", 8 min Abs, 8 min Buns videos
Last two days have been a whirlwind. Friday was generally ok until dinner and the 2 margaritas. Cinco de Mayo! I did get a walk in!
Saturday was DD's 12th birthday party: "Girls day out" for 5 11-12 year olds! DD's 3 friends arrived at 10am. I had bought an assortment of flipflops so everyone picked out a pair from the basket. Then I took them plus my 2 DD's to the nail salon for pedicures/manicures. The gal at the salon talked me into getting a pedicure also. I love pedicures, but not when I am trying to keep track of 5 kids! This was the most "unrelaxing" pedicure ever. I want a do-over! I had forgotten the camera at home so DH loaded DD2 into his car and brought it over to us. :love: After the pedicure, it was off to Islands for lunch. Can I just say it was a little frightening how well some of these girls knew their way around the menu "We'd like to split the Grande Nachos with chicken and Guacamole, but no jalepenos or sour cream." When the Kona Pie arrived after lunch, they all claimed to be too full yet somehow the entire giant slice was completely gone shortly thereafter! DH and DD2 had joined us for lunch so that was nice. The movie started later than I had planned so after opening presents at the restaurant I took the girls to a park for about 15 minutes. They really had a good time running around being "kids", but the sand did do some damage to a couple of pedicures - oh well! At the movie theater I asked if anyone wanted popcorn, etc. "I'm full" became $30 worth of movie candy/popcorn. :rotfl2: We saw "Hoot" it was cute. After the movie, the girls all played in the backyard while waiting for their parents. DH tried to get them to do some games until I called him off. We have entered a new phase now. Parents are for transportation, not entertainment. I figured this out during our day out. After everyone had left, DH fixed leftovers, etc for dinner and we watched "Narnia" (one of DD's birthday presents). It was really good. Of course, in my highly weakened state, the cookie dough made its appearance! Baked some duirng the movie and then ate some more dough after the kids went to bed! DH is leaving this morning on another business trip, so I can't send cookies to work. I am thinking I will bake the rest of the cookies today and freeze them for the kids lunches otherwise, I'm going to eat the rest of the tube now that it is open.
Friday:b- GoLean Cereal & 24 oz skim milk
s - 1 pc beef jerky
l - 6 oz FF yogurt
s - 1/2c FF cottage cheese & olive spread
d - homemade burrito, 2 margaritas
Water: 88 oz
Exercise: 60 minute walk w/ jogger stroller
Saturday:9:30a: 6 oz FF yogurt
12:00p: 1/2 Maui Burger, some cheddar fries w/ Ranch dip, mulitple glasses of Sprite
2:00p: movie popcorn
5:30p: 1/2 ham sandwich, 15 oz skim milk
6:30p: 2 chocolate chip cookies, 12 oz skim milk, chunk of cookie dough
8:30p: 12 oz skim milk, more cookie dough :sad2:
Water: 32 oz :sad2:
Exercise: none
Today was a lowkey, do nothing (except eat!) day for me. I have been in kind of a sluggy, funky mood all day. I think I really just needed to decompress after yesterday and the last week. I have gotten off track completely eating & exercise, but hopefully, I can get back on track on Monday. The good news is the cookie dough is gone, the bad news is, you guessed it, I ate most of it! There wasn't even enough left for kid lunches tomorrow. DH left this morning on another business trip. He is at a conference at the Contemporary at WDW of all places! So wanted to go with him, but state testing starts tomorrow at school so we have to stay home. :sad2:
Food:
8:00a: 3 pancakes w/ peach sauce
12:30p: 1/2 ham sandwich on whole wheat w/ mayo and mustard, 5 cherry tomatoes, handful of "veggie booty" (even tasted "green" - blah!)
Wow, what a great mom you are for making DD's b-day so special! I thought I was going to go insane for DS10's b-day. He had 5 boys over and in a short 2 hours, they kicked a soccer ball into a neighbors backyard, crunched several ping pong balls and someone took a ping pong ball to the eye... Ya, be glad you have girls!
You probably feel crappy because of all the junk you ate this weekend. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! After a couple days of eating healthy you will be back to your chipper self. As for the cookie dough, I would have done the EXACT same thing. Scary, isn't it? I don't understand how an opened tub of cookie dough can completely take over rational thought...
You will get back on track!! :cool1:
Now that the birthday festivities are done, I should be able to stay reasonably on track. Wednesday will be another crazy day, but the rest of the week looks good.
LOL. Boys are definitely a different breed! My brother has 3 year old twin boys and just an hour with them exhausts me! Yes, I am glad I have girls. Thanks for stopping by my journal. I put in a lot of nitty gritty stuff for myself, but I really appreciate everyone's encouragement. It is so motivating for me! :grouphug:
Good day today. DD2 fell asleep in the jogger stroller while I was walking. I knew I wouldn't be successful if I tried to transfer her to her bed and I also knew that she REALLY needed that nap. So, I dropped the older two girls off at home with their piano teacher and just kept walking. Did a total of 1:45! and almost 6 miles! Boiled a dozen eggs yesterday for snacks. Of course, the kids like them, so I had to boil more today. Egg whites are ok, but the deviled eggs for the kids were so much more yummy! I need to go to the store and get more fruits & veggies too. The only thing that I was not great with was my water intake. I just was not thirsty today even on my walk. I usually drink close to 2 - 24oz bottles on a 1 hr walk. Today, I didn't even finish 1.
Tomorrow will be very crazy. I am going on my first school field trip in nearly 3 years (since DD2 was born). The honor choir at school was one of 4 in the state chosen to sing at the state PTA convention and I decided I just couldn't miss it. Both DD's are a part of the group. A neighbor is watching DD2 for an hour until DH's gets home from his business trip. The kids will be dismissed from class at 12:30 to change and get ready. We will leave for Anaheim at 1. They actually perform from 4-4:30 and then the whole group is going to Goofy's Kitchen for dinner. :banana: then back home to get a "good night's rest". Can I just say, don't ya think the STATE PTA could have done a little better planning and not had the convention the same week that every school in the state is doing State TESTING? :confused3 Anyway, it should be a lot of fun and a really neat experience for the kids (and mommy too!)
Food:
8:15a: GoLean Crunch Cereal, 24 oz milk
12:00p: 1/2 ham sandwich w/ mayo & mustard on whole wheat, 5 red bellpepper strips
4:00p: 1 egg white, 1 deviled egg
What a day we had Wednesday!! It was absolutely awesome!! The kids honor choir did a 30 minute performance at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena at the beginning of the State PTA Convention General Meeting (2000-4000) people. They were on stage with mic's and lights and they were also projected onto two big screens with pans and close ups! This was a totally new experience for all of them. They sounded great! They looked great! It was really incredible. We got a new music teacher at school last year. She started the honor choir for 5th and 6th graders this year. She is really awesome and has done amazing things with the kids.
Then it was off to Goofy's Kitchen as the perfect ending to a fantastic day! There were lots of "kid tables" (33 kids) and a 3 "grown up tables" . I'm still getting used to this kids separating from the grown folk thing. The kids loved all the characters and the characters loved them. At one point Belle and Chip and Dale wanted the kids to sing something. So that one table started to sing. Immediately, all the other kids at the other tables started to sing!!! This was completely spontaneous and not directed by their teacher or anything. Kodak moment with tears at all the "mommy" tables.
OK, enough braggin' on my kids! :love:
I was running around Wednesday morning and never got breakfast. When I ran out of the house at 12:30 for the field trip, I grabbed a couple of granola bars thinking I would eat one for lunch and another for snack. Never got to the lunch one. Finally had one around 3p after the kids were taken "backstage" and the grown ups were getting ready to be seated. At Goofy's Kitchen, I had a plate of salads and various roasted veggies that were really, really good! Should have stopped there. Then I had some entries, but didn't eat much since they were only ok. I wanted a chicken something, but mostly there was fish, pasta, and roast beef & pork loin. I don't like fish and I skipped the pastas. Then on to desserts! I only ate 1-2 bites of each dessert -- but I tried 6-7 different ones! Oh, well. I knew that would happen before I got there. I had hoped to get in a walk in the morning, but knew that was going to be a long shot so wasn't too surprised that it didn't happen.
Today (Thursday) I got back on track though. Ate reasonably well (still can't get the fat grams down - I LIKE foods with fat in them!), got a good walk in and drank enough water. This week I have really had to think about drinking water again. I'm not sure why. :confused3
Wednesday
Food:
3p: granola bar
5:30p: Goofy's Kitchen buffet, 1/2 DC
Water: 50 oz
Thursday
Food:
7:15a: whole wheat toast w/ peanut butter & blueberry jam
10:30a: Toddler class: 1.5 mini pumpkin muffin, snack size unsweetened applesauce
12:45p: 1 egg white, 2 deviled eggs, 1 apple
5p: 1 little bonnibel cheese
6:15p: 8 oz skim milk, whole wheat pasta w/ marinara sauce, little parmesan, asparagus, green salad w/ feta & olive oil & vinegar, 1 big glass of wine
Not sure what happened today. DD12 did her "Greek Play" today in class so I had to have me and DD2 showered, dressed and at school at 7:45 (usually just do the drop off lane in my sweats and DD2 in PJ's. :scared1: ) That threw off my whole routine, so to speak. Grabbed a granola bar for breakfast and then discovered a second one in my purse so I ate that too. :sad2: No honor choir practice today (another change to my routine) so the kids were done with school at 12:45. (minimum day Friday) Ate two more granola bars for lunch while waiting for them at school. :sad2: Could have easily walked to school to pick DD's up, but it didn't even occur to me until I was sitting in the school parking lot. I think we were all drained from the past week. I ate 2 babybel cheeses and watched survivor and ER (so sad!!) while DD2 took a nap and the older 2 played. Got back on track at dinner, but then completely lost it and had 6 girl scout cookies and a big glass of milk! No wonder the scale isn't moving. :sad2:
I pretty much have to stay in the same room with her at all times or she gets "distracted". This is a long winded way of saying, no chance to exercise today. :sad2: I did get the laundry done & folded, bonus room picked up, and arts & crafts cabinet completely cleaned out and reorganized and even sharpened all of the colored pencils! :crazy: DH took care of cooking/shopping today which is nice, but he does buy tempting stuff. This time it is Doritos and Julian Apple Pie. At least these are both easier to resist than the cookie dough! :rotfl2:
Food:
8:30a: 4 pancakes w/ maple syrup, egg, 12 oz skim milk
1:30p: 2 turkey hot dogs w/ ketchup & mustard, 11 Doritos (1 serving)
6:30p: DH made fried chicken breast, 3/4c mashed potatoes, 1/4c corn, 1 sliver apple pie, 15oz skim milk
Totals:
Cal: 1772, Fat: 56g, Carbs: 198g, Fiber: 7g, Protein: 118g
Resisted: more doritos, big apple pie slice, ice cream or another glass of milk w/ pie
Water: 110 oz
LOL. Definitely watch ER and this weeks Amazing Race! The finally is this week and it collides with something else (don't remember what now) so I will actually have to watch one "live" or record on the VCR. We TiVo everything and are always behind. One of our favorite shows is "24". I finally had to transfer episodes to the VCR because we have not seen a single episode this season and it was filling up the TiVo!
The GS cookies were in the back of the freezer and I am quite sure DD's had forgotten about them or they would not have been there. :rotfl2:
DH will have to take over "supervision" of DD10 tomorrow since that is NOT the way I want to spend my Mother's Day. She has had 5 weeks to write this report. She has been working on it, but not enough obviously. Her "drawings" are all done. Of course, all of the drawings account for 5 points total. Each of the 7 written subjects are 10 points each! 3 of those need minor changes, 2 need major edits/additions, 1 is not complete, and 1 needs to be completely redone! Sigh.
Hey Anna, I can totally relate to the kids procrastination when it comes to getting projects done. Everytime DS has one do he waits till the day before and makes me run out the night before to get some needed supply-everysingle time. I don't blame you for not wanting to spend Mother's Day like you did today. You deserve to do something for yourself. You did pretty good resisting the pie.
Have a really nice mother's Day!!
Thank you all for the Mother's Day wishes. Happy Mother's Day to all of you as well (except Scott - Happy Mother's Day to Scott's lovely wife :) )
Spent the morning doing the monster Sudoku puzzle (4x4) in the paper while DD10 worked on her $@^*@$^& State Report. :furious: Finally, around 11:30a it appeared that she was far enough along to be left unsupervised for awhile. The sun actually decided to make an appearance too :banana: so I spent the rest of the day poolside! :thumbsup2 Granted, I did have to edit various drafts of above mentioned report: make this a sentence; in the history section the DATE something happened is important information; Puget Sound is an important physical feature of WA so yes, you do need to talk about it, etc. but at least I was in the sun! :sunny: DH was sweet and brought out a variety of meats, cheeses, veggies, etc for lunch. I skipped the crackers. He also made several pitchers of Margaritas -- some of my editting skills were getting a little suspect later in the afternoon. :rotfl2: DD did finally finish around 3, I think. Didn't get my planned walk in thanks to the Margaritas. I'm really going to have to get serious or I won't meet my exercise challenge. Monday ...
I need to make banana bread tonight for Teacher Appreciation Day tomorrow. Luckily we only have enough bananas for 1 loaf so there won't be any "leftovers" for me to nibble on.
Food:
8:15a: Danish, scrambled egg, 12 oz skim milk
11:45a: various meats, cheese, lots of red pepper, grape tomatoes, brocolli, many margaritas
3p: macaroon, 8 oz milk -- I had a major sweet craving ...
5:45p: grilled steak, brocolli, red wine
8:00p: small slice apple pie, 12 oz skim milk
resisted: doritos, crackers, more pie
Totals: ??
Water: 110 oz
Exercise: none :sad2:
Mmm, margaritas by the pool - great way to spend Mother's Day! We had at least 15 people over. NOT relaxing... :crazy2:
DS10 does the same thing with the projects. The last one was a report on animals. He had a about a month to work on it, and the week before it was due, he changed his animal from a jaguar to emperor penguins. Then I'm pretty sure he plagiarized some - I don't think a 10 year old would use words like "ironically" in his report on his own... What can you do? :confused3
You'll get caught up on those exercise minutes, don't worry! I will barely scrape by this month, but I think I'll make it.
Thank you all for stopping by my journal. I guess I am glad to hear that DD is not unique in her ability to drive me crazy with her school work. :crazy:
Well I have decided that Monday may be a dumb day to do WI. I have been at 175 since Friday. This morning back to 177. :furious: Instead of motivating me, I got cranky and did not make the best food choices today - too many doritos. Didn't help that DD2 is running a fever today so I couldn't walk earlier in the day. I did get a walk in after dinner though, so that was nice.
Food:
8:15a: 1c GoLean Crunch, 12 oz skim milk
11:45a: 1/2 sandwich, 11 doritos
2p: slice apple pie, 8 oz skim milk
5:45p: 1c Chicken Tortilla soup, 11 doritos, 12 oz skim milk
6:15p: 1/2 slice banana bread (there were a few slices leftover from the Teacher appreciation breakfast)
Wow, I thought I was the only one who got ticked off at the scale like that! I do that too. It's hard when the scale goes up like that - you just want to give up. But DON'T! It is probably water retention and will be gone soon. :thumbsup2
Great job getting that walk in! You are just about at the halfway point for your exercise challenge, you can do it! I know you were worried about getting caught up, but I think you are right on schedule. :banana:
:banana: Finally had a great day where it all came together: food, exercise & water! DD2 still has a fever, so no daytime walk. I did go out in the evening after DH got home. I took DH's iPod Nano - that really helped me pick up my pace. When I walk in the evening I don't leave my neighborhood. From my running days, I know that if I do every single culdesac it is exactly 5 miles. Usually I just walk for about an hour and head towards home skipping the remaining streets. At about 50 minutes, I realized there were only three culdesacs and 1 street left. If I could finish those in 25 minutes I would be on a 4mph pace. Not much during my running days, but way faster than anything I have done in the last year +. I finished the 5 mile loop in 75 minutes! :cool1:
Food:
8:15a: whole wheat toast w/ PB & jam, 12 oz skim milk
12:30p: Carl's Jr w/ DH before his dentist appointment - I had his papers: Santa Fe Chicken w/o bun, cheese or sauce
2:20p: granola bar
5:30p: Sauted onions, peppers, squash, green beans, sliced leftover steak over 1/2c spinach pasta sprinkled w/ feta and chopped olive, 14 oz skim milk
Totals:
Cal: 1267, Fat: 42g, Carbs: 121g, Fiber: 11g, Protein: 103g
Water: 117 oz
Exercise: 75 minute walk - 5 miles of all hills! :yay:
Thank you for stopping by my journal. I really appreciate it. With DD2 sick, I have not gotten much DIS time to visit other journals. Miss Cranky just wants to be held, read stories, and play with toy dogs & dinosaurs (the combo works for her - who am I to argue! When older DD's were little, they used to have a very elaborate game involving dinos, hot wheels and barbies! :rotfl2: )
Amy, The scale is a huge motivator for me. I know it shouldn't be, but it is. I know the weight is "margarita" and I'm also preTOM bloat, but it still ticks me off. It helped that Tuesday the scale was down to 176 and this morning (Weds) it was at 175 again. That does keep me motivated when I get munchies or sweets cravings.
Shannon, Margaritas were yummy! If only they didn't affect the scale! :rotfl2:
So Mr. Scale (yes, it is a Mr. - don't know why, but it is!) was 175 this morning. That's good - now just don't go back up! I got another good walk in tonight, although definitely slower. At least I have exercised three days in a row. I am actually under for my calories today by quite a bit, but I'm not hungry and nothing sounds really interesting to eat. :confused3
Food:
8:15a: 1c GoLean Crunch, 12 oz skim milk
12:30p: 1c Chicken Tortilla soup, 6 cherry tomatoes
2:45p: Granola bar
6:15p: 1/2c leftover sauted onions, peppers, squash, green beans, sliced leftover steak from yesterday, but wi/o the pasta, feta or olives, 8 oz skim milk
Thanks everyone! Yes, it definitely feels good when everything comes together!
DD2 is better today. She hasn't had a fever all day and the runny nose is gone too. Most importantly, she is not so cranky! I know it is her "job" as a 2 year old to build immunities, but it doesn't make it any easier. It seems recently that every cold has turned into an ear infection. After the last round, the pediatrician said if she gets one more he's sending her to the ENT doc. So I am happy that this one seems to have resolved itself.
I'm glad to hear DD is better. Even if she eventually has to get tubes (and hopefully she doesn't :wizard: ), it will be worth it. My DS10 had to get tubes in his ears when he was 14 months old. Every 2 weeks we'd be at the Dr for ear infections. It was awful! The only time he had an infection after that was if a tube got blocked, and that was maybe once or twice. He had them in until he was 5. DD6 has had maybe one or two ear infections her whole life. Isn't it amazing how different your own kids are?
You are doing great with your walking. Try to keep your calories over 1000 per day - your body won't like it if you go too low.
I'm glad the scale was cooperating. It'll go down next week! :cheer2:
Great job on the walking! 5 miles is a long way to walk - I haven't done that many miles in ages.
Glad to hear your daughter is filling better. Its miserable when they don't feel well.
That chicken tortilla soup is making me hungry. I love it but don't fix it because dh won't eat it. He claims that its the name of the soup he doesn't like. I think I'll rename it spicy southestern chicken soup and see if that helps.
Don't think I am going to get my walk in today. I was "snack mom" for Toddler class so I couldn't walk to class, and I'm not done packing for Yosemite tomorrow so I don't think I will fit in a walk tonight either. But, I figure I will get a lot of exercise hiking at Yosemite this weekend. I borrowed a backpack carrier from a friend for DD. She is nearly 3 but only weighs 26 lbs.
I realized after I had put my lunch into fitday, that I would have "extra" calories available for dinner. :banana: so with my salad I had bread w/ olive oil & balsalmic vinegar :love: as a treat! I probably should have gone with a fruit smoothie, but I have really missed the oil & vinegar w/ bread.
Food:
9:30a: PB & jam on whole wheat toast
10:45a: 4 strawberries, 1/2 slice cheese, 4 Alpahbet cookies
12:30p: 1 3/4c split pea soup, 1/2 serving baked pita chips
3:00p: 2 graham crackers, 1c skim milk
6:00p: 1c Ceasar salad w/ 1/2c chicken, 1 serving bread w/ olive oil & balsalmic vinegar, 12 oz skim milk
Totals:
Thanks everyone for the encouragement with my walks and well wishes for DD2. DD12 never had any issues. DD10 had many sinus/ear/throat infections. Finally had her giant sized tonsils (they touched each other!) and adnoids out at 5, and it made a world of difference. I can see DD2 going the same route, at some point.
Amy, How were the tubes with swimming? That is my biggest concern since we are generally in the water multiple times a day during the summer. And yep, my bad on sub 1k cals. I actually am trying to stay around 1200 calories. Yesterday I wanted graham crackers and milk, but w/o the milk, nothing else sounded good. Got my graham crackers w/ milk today though! :)
Jane, the soup is yummy and really pretty healthy. DH and I really like it. The kids - not so much, but they will eat it. I have also recently discovered Amy's Kitchen organic soups also. There are several that are really tasty and also very healthy. I found them at Henry's, but Trader Joes or Whole Foods may carry them as well.
Wow, I am envious! I've never been to Yosemite. It is definitely on my list of places to see. Don't worry about the walks, I'm sure you will more than make up for it hiking, especially lugging a toddler around!
As for the tubes, I remember no underwater swimming was allowed. It's been a long time, but I don't remember having to use earplugs while swimming, as long as he didn't put his head under water (which he didn't at that age anyway).
Have a great trip!
We had a fantastic time at Yosemite. The weather Saturday was perfect and we hiked to various waterfalls and vista's all day long. We even took a 40 minute hike early in the morning before breakfast! :cool1: By midmorning Sunday it started to rain, but that was ok too. We did a short hike and then some indoor things. Finally on our way out of the park we stopped one more time to do the short hike to Bridalveil Falls. At this one, the creek was actually flooding onto the path at the top. Most people were stopped where the water got to be more than 4 inches deep, but not us! Figured it was our last stop and we had dry clothes in the car. :rotfl2: All of the falls were fantastic and so full and powerful! Some or our hikes were easy and some were much more strenuous - nearly had a full scale family mutiny on our way up to Vernal Falls! DH carried DD2 in the backpack carrier most of the time :love: and I had the daypack with rain ponchos, water and snacks. I am going to claim a total of 5 hours of exercise for the weekend. It was a great weekend "workout"!
Long driving and hiking meant that I did not drink huge amounts of water, but enough to stay hydrated, generally 50-60 ozs. I crashed the mens room at one point Saturday since the line was ridiculous for the ladies and the men's was empty! I had DD2 in tow as my "cover", but really I was the one that just could not wait any longer in that line! :blush:
I feel like I made good food choices most of the weekend with the notable exception of the chocolate creme brulee I split with DH at dinner saturday night - Yum! On our drive home sunday night we stopped at a coffee shop type place for dinner. There were no good choices here. Everything was fried and/or sauced. The only "green" on the menu was the iceberg lettuce salad. I had that and baked ham with a little bit of mashed potatoes.
Finally got a pay off this morning for WI - 175.5 lbs - down 1.5 lbs. :thumbsup2
We got home late last night and then the rain arrived here and woke me around 3am so today I am super tired - no walk. Of course my shoes are still drying out too. :rotfl2: today was unpacking and lots of laundry. I didn't put everything into fitday today. I am having trouble getting back into the swing of things and went on a snack binge in the afternoon. I also had trouble remembering to drink my water. Frightening how quickly I can get out of the habit.
Monday:
b: 1c GoLean Cereal w/ 24 oz skim milk
s: 1/3c trail mix
l: 6 oz FF yogurt, 1/2 serving baked pita chips
s: 4 mini chocolate chip cookies
s: 1c low carb trail mix
s: cocktail w/ DH
d: 1 turkey hot dog, 5 tatertots, 12 oz skim milk
Water: 64 oz
Exercise: none
Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I really appreciate it! I'll try and get to journals later tonight, but might need to get some more sleep first ....
Reasonably good day today. DD10 wanted to take apples today for her oral presentation on WA state. Of course, we only had 8 apples. So she decided to take "slices." Needless to say, they were already turning brown when she finished cutting them and would be downright nasty by 10 am. Off to the store we go at 7:30am to buy 29 apples! Next time, maybe she'll get her apple inspiration before the morning of! Thank goodness the whole state report thing is done now! We still have 4 more weeks of school, but this was the last "hard" project.
Had to do something with all the sliced apples though. Everyone had apples for snack and I made a waldorf salad with the rest.
Food:
10a: 1/2c FF cottage cheese, 8 apple slices :lmao:
12:30p: 1/2c chicken, 3 triscuits, 12 oz skim milk
3:30p: smoothie w/ strawberries, mango, pineapple & FF yogurt
5:30p: 4 celery sticks, 2 apple slices, 1/2 walnut
6:45p: grilled chicken breast, sliced tomato, 1.5c waldorf salad, 8 oz skim milk
Totals:
Cal: 1314, Fat: 35g, Carbs: 142g, Fiber: 20g, Protein, 115g
Water: 80 oz
Exercise: none -- shoes were still damp this morning. So maybe it wasn't such a good idea to wade through all that water in Yosemite after all. :blush:
Since we are doing the transatlantic cruise next year, this is our "no big vacations" year. Yosemite is great with the kids! DH and I had not been since we were kids and we really wanted to show the girls the waterfalls. We got lucky and got a hotel cancellation about two weeks ago. Otherwise, reservations for hotels are booked 366 days in advance. Campsite reservations are 5 months in advance (I think). We stayed at the Yosemite Lodge at the base of Yosemite Falls and it was great: Centrally located, reasonably priced, clean spacious room. Curry Village is the other big accomadation inside the Valley. It looked to be kind of a zoo, though. If I were going in the summer, I think I would rather camp than stay there. In fact, I am thinking of trying to get a camp reservation for summer 2007. Not sure about how good it would be with our youngest though. She'll be too big for the backpack carrier, but not really big enough for hiking. The other tip is to bring/rent bicycles. There is a free shuttle service around the valley that works well, but gets very crowded. There are great bike paths all over. We watched many a bike pass our bus while stopped in traffic at the end of the day.
DH really wants to go to the Grand Canyon. He's never been and I haven't been since I was a kid. Don't think I will be able to work that into this summer, though, unless I can snag another last minute reservation/cancellation. :thumbsup2
Thank you everyone for stopping by my journal. I am sorry I am so cranky today. Knowing that I have this journal to keep me accountable keeps me on track.
Jane & Jaime, Thanks. I am really happy to finally see a loss again. :banana: and Yosemite was a great getaway. I was really pleased with myself and my food choices over the weekend. I wish we could do stuff like that more often, but it doesn't seem to happen.
Amy, How I wish we were done with school! The elementary school is on a "modified traditional" calendar. We started August 14 and finish June 21. We get an 8 week summer, 2 weeks at the end of October, 2 weeks for Christmas and 2 weeks for spring break. I actually like the calendar most of the year (just not at the end of May and mid-August :rotfl2: ) We usually take our big family vacation in October. It is not crowded, prices are down, and generally the weather is still good. Of course, next year DD12 will be at the middle school and will be on a different (traditional) calendar. She will start a week later and finish a week earlier, no October break and only 1 week for Spring. :crazy: Oh, well.
Regarding the 1/2 walnut :rotfl2: I was chopping everything for the waldorf salad and just kept eating celery sticks and apples until the end, then I snagged 1 lone walnut half before it got chopped up! :rotfl: If I hadn't had the "other" stuff readily available to snack on, there would have been many more walnuts eaten.
Definitely think about Yosemite. It is a great family vacation.
Scott & Tracy, We are so very glad that the state report is done. DD has been grounded off and on for the better part of the last three weeks in order to get it finished. :crazy: I think there are two apples left still. :rotfl2: The timing for our Yosemite trip worked out great too. We had a fantastic time.
Wow, I eat WAY more than you when I am cranky! :rotfl: You did pretty good with your eating, at least you didn't go overboard.
That will be interesting next year when you have different kids on different schedules. I would love the modified schedule, especially for vacations! They tossed around the idea here, but decided against it... :confused3
You will get your walk in today! :banana:
Congrats on doing your spring cleaning. Don't you feel good when you get it finished and have your room back in order? It always amazes me how quickly it can all get disorganized again.
You'll have your hands full next year with the different schedules. Its a shame all the schools can't be on the same calendar.
Great food choices yesterday! (You can tell I'm not big on veggies.) I'll have to try those turkey hot dogs - I love hot dogs but don't dare get started on 'em. The turkey ones might be a good solution for me. Hang in there!:wizard:
The last two days have been nonstop busy. The "end of year" stuff has already started at school (even though there is still almost a month of school left!) Thursday was Open House and then a forum with the principal to discuss the GATE, or rather lack of GATE, program. I sent DH and the kids home after Open House, but I didn't get home until after 8. Then I had to finish the Pupil Information Form for DD10 for next year that was due the next day. "Tell us about your child to help determine class placement for next year ..." Friday was Grandparents Day. The kids all dressed hawaiian. DH's mom came (she lives about 40 minutes away.) Each grade did 1-2 musical numbers for a nice program. I had "snack" cravings all day (my MIL does that to me!) When DH came home from work he suggested dinner out to kick off the 3 day weekend and I caved! Here are the gory details...
Thursday
Food:
b: whole wheat toast w/ PB&J, 1c OJ
s: 1 serving graham crackers, 2 strawberries (Toddler Class)
l: chicken salad on wholewheat toast, sliced tomato
s: smoothie w/ FF yogurt, OJ, strawberries
d: granola bar (it was too late to eat anything else)
Totals:
Cal: 1261, Fat: 38g, Carbs: 162g, Fiber: 14g, Protein: 75g
Water: 96 oz
Exercise: 60 minute walk w/ jogger stroller (to/from Toddler Class!) :yay:
Friday
9:00: whole wheat toast w/ PB&J, 1c OJ
s: none
12:00p: 6 triscuits, 2 slices provolone cheese, apple
2:00p: 15 almonds, then another 15 almonds
4:00p: 100 cal pack peanutbutter cookie crisps
5:45p: Buca di Beppo - 1pc garlic bread, 3 pcs pizza Margherita, 1/2 pc chicken parmigiana, 1 small serving fettuccine alfredo, 2 large glasses chianti :sad2:
Totals:
Cal: about 100k!?
Water: 80 oz
Exercise: lifting fork & glass to mouth way too many times!
Jaime & Amy: As my kids keep saying "there is nothing good to eat" in the house. This kept me from going too overboard while cranky. :rotfl2: Actually, I don't eat that much when cranky, but way more when stressed (like anything to do with my MIL).
Amy: the different schedules will be interesting. Nothing to be done except make the best of it though.
Jane: I got the turkey hot dog idea from Jaime (thanks Jaime! :thumbsup2 ) They are a pretty good substitute. I have even slipped them on the kids a couple of times and they haven't noticed. :lmao:
Hi Anna,
Just stopped by to read some of journal. You are a busy lady! Sounds like you are doing great with food and exercise, good for you! And I also will have a child starting middle school next year and therefore being on a completely different schedule than his younger, year round, sister. Its going to be fun isn't it? Hope you have a great weekend!
Lordy, what a dumb day I had. :sad2: The calorie # does not tell an accurate story today. :sad2: I don't even have a good reason. :sad2:
Food:
b: (late) 1/2 danish, 1/2 chocolate croissant, 12 oz skim milk
s: none
l: none (I don't know why?)
s: 15 almonds, small fruit leather
d: (Buca leftovers) very small serving Fettuccini Alfredo w/ tomato sauce from chicken parmesianna, slice Pizza Margherita, 10 oz skim milk
s: 1/2c strawberry/banana smoothie then DH adds a shot of rum! (improved the smoothie a lot!)
Hi Amy, Thanks for stopping by my journal. Middle school is going to be a big step definitely. I'll actually have three schedules since youngest DD will be starting preschool, but that one is way more flexible about missing days, etc. Our middle school really does not allow missing class for ANY reason. I have been told kids go to school sick rather than miss a day (dumb, huh? Let's get everyone else sick too! :confused3 )
Anna, I am in the same boat as you - eating out too much, drinking too much, etc etc. I figure once I get back to work on Tuesday I will get back into a more healthy routine. You will get back into a routine, don't get frustrated! It is really important to understand that there will ALWAYS be bad days thrown in the mix. Just knowing that you are off track is a big start, because you know you have to do something to get back to living that healthy lifestyle.
YOU CAN DO IT!!! :cheer2:
Thank goodness for the exercise challenge or I never would have gotten out to walk this evening. It was really nice and it de-stressed me from the in-law visit this afternoon. When I am stressed, I eat and my in-laws definitely stress me. The in-laws came over for the afternoon and they like to eat! I did really pretty good until dessert. DH's aunt makes the most amazing pies. I had a small slice of peach pecan and another small slice of banana cream, and then I went back and had a sliver of strawberry rhubarb. I did skip the ice cream and the whipped cream. That was bad enough, but then I just had another big slice of the peach pecan with a glass of milk after my walk. :sad2: So maybe the walk didn't completely destress me from the in-laws.
Food:
8:30a: 4 pancakes w/ 2T peach sauce, egg, 12 oz skim milk
12:30 - 2p: lots of grape tomatoes, pea pods, some carrots & broccoli
2p: 2 turkey hot dogs (no bun), 1c potato salad, small handful of BBQ chips, 2 margaritas
4:30p: PIE! small slice peach pecan, banana cream, sliver strawberry rhubarb
8:00p: big slice peach pecan, 12 oz skim milk
Totals: (kinda a guess?)
Cal:2845, Fat: 113g, Carbs: 331g, Fiber: 14g, Protein: 76
Water: 108 oz
Exercise: 55 minute walk! :yay:
The scale this morning still said 173 so hopefully there will be at least a little loss tomorrow. See how much damage the PIE fest did. :sad2: I did spend almost an hour in the spa after my walk to "sweat" out any more excess water weight I could. :rotfl2: Of course I drank 20 oz of water at the same time so I am not sure that theory makes sense. :confused3
Anna
Thanks Amy & Tracy for your support. WISH really helps keep me from just throwing in the towel right now. I think part of my problem may be my own complacency. At 173 I am back to where I was a year ago and so all the clothes I bought for our cruise last summer fit. It is great to be back here, but I really have a long way to go and need to get beyond this. I have to remind myself how bummed I was last spring when I was buying those clothes because nothing else fit.
Amy, thank you so much for doing the exercise challenge this month. Without it I KNOW I would not be getting in my exercise.
I'm so glad the exercise challenge is working for you! :woohoo: And I'm glad that you have found the support here that you need to keep going. :grouphug: Don't settle for 173, keep working hard until you get to your goal, whatever that may be! You can do it. :cheer2: And so what if you had pie, that is over and done with and now you can get back to eating healthy. Because in the long run, there will always be pie and margaritas and cheesecake, etc - the key is to enjoy those things in moderation and eat healthy at least 80% of the time. You are forming some healthy habits, give yourself a big pat on the back! :thumbsup2
WI this morning was 174 whick means I get to change my clippie! :cool1: down 1.5 lbs for the week and only up 1 lb for the weekend - amazing! :banana: Ate way too many fatty, high cal foods today though. I started to get back on track by dinner, so hopefully I'll be totally back together tomorrow.
Food:
9:00a: (DH cooked) scrambled egg, sausage, hash browns, 12 oz skim milk
12:00p: 1/2c FF cottage cheese, sliced tomato
3:10p: slice peach pecan pie, 12 oz skim milk (I told the family they have to eat the rest of the pie tonight for dessert so it will be all gone!)
6:00p: baked chicken, ceasar salad, sliced tomato, 10 oz skim milk
Resisted:
toast w/ breakfast, more pie, potato salad w/ dinner
Water: 112 oz
Exercise: none yet, might still try and get a walk in tonight, but it is not looking too likely. I am going to have to do some serious walking tomorrow and Wednesday to meet my exercise challenge!
Pie was not quite done unfortunately. Clearly, Aunt S's pie is on the "can't have in the house" list for me. It was as taunting as the darn cookie dough! Thanks for the pep talk. I appreciate it. I know I won't settle. Ulitimately I would love to get to 135, but I truly don't know if my body can do that at this point. I haven't been there in more than 20 years! I'll be happy in the 140's. Today was a good day if I don't count the "my children driving me crazy" part. The scale was back down to 173 this morning, I ate well, I drank tons of water, and I walked for 95 minutes tonight! :cool1:
The walk was thanks to Amy's exercise challenge. I am competitive enough that I WILL meet my goal even if it means mega walks at the end of the month. It was also thanks to "my children are driving me crazy" and I needed to get out of the house by myself! They are so done with school, but unfortunately school is not done for another +3 weeks! Ugh! Luckily the homework load is minimal (finally!), but they are just fussin' at each other constantly. I told DH I was taking a long walk and he would have to get all 3 in to bed tonight. Came home a little after 9 to a quiet house. :love:
Food:
9a: 1/2c GoLean Cereal + 1/2c Rice Krispies, 12 oz skim milk (DD2 wanted mommy's cereal to "talk" too :rotfl2: )
12p: 1c LF Split Pea soup, 1.5c salad w/ 3/4c chicken, 2T salsa
3p: smoothie w/ banana, strawberry, FF yogurt
6:30p: roast chicken breast, 1c green beans, 2c salad w/ avocado & spinkle parmesan cheese, 12 oz skim milk
Totals:
Cal: 1428, Fat: 18g, Carbs: 189g, Fiber: 34g, Protein: 140g
My kids always fight , no matter what time of year it is... :confused3
Rhubarb is a vegetable (or maybe a fruit - I have no idea) - it is shaped like flat celery, it is a reddish purple and it is SOUR. I've made rhubarb bran muffins before - I need to look up that recipe, they were really good!
Have you signed up for the June Challenge yet?
I love GoLean Crunch. I also tried the Grape Nuts Trail Mix Crunch - it's pretty good, you might want to check it out.
When I was a kid growing up in Ohio rhubarb was grown out in the fields - Mom used to get some from relatives and make rhubarb pie. I never liked it but my father sure did. Its very tart - maybe now I'd like it since my tastes have changed. For dh's birthday one year I got him a strawberry rhubarb pie but I wouldn't eat it. I always heard it was poisonous if you ate it raw but don't know if thats true or just an old wives tale.
Great job on the 95 min hill walk! :cool1:
WARNING: This entry is long winded as I am doing some reflecting on weight set points - do they or don't they exist .... opinions?
First thing after DD's went to school I finished my May Exercise with a walk w/ the jogger stroller! :banana: Since I have been walking solo in the evenings recently I haven't had DH's GPS (no stroller to clip it to and too nerdy, even for me, to just carry it. :rotfl2: ) I was interested today to see if my general pace had increased and it has. My avg pace was 3.6 mph today. When I started last month it was 3.3 mph. :cool1: That definitely made me feel good. I know I walk faster when I don't have the stroller too.
Another positive today was the scale. Since I have been doing the May WL challenge I needed a final WI this morning - 172! :thumbsup2 Now this is great, but if there is such a thing as “set points” then I think 172 is probably one for my body. I have spent an awful lot of time at 172 over the past 12 years. I weighed 172 in mid 1993 and again in 2nd half of 1994 before I was pregnant with each of our first 2 DD’s and I spent the better part of 1997- 1998 at 172. Now I think 177 has also been a set point for my body, if set points exist. I came back from our cruise last summer at 177 (started the cruise at 172!) and pretty much never went down since then. Crept all the way up to 185 starting this year. When I started this WISH journey I fell pretty quickly from 185 to 177, then it took several hard weeks to get beyond 177. Again, once I did break that point, the weight loss was pretty quick. So I can see that I may run into trouble again at 172. Once I do break this barrier (if it exists) the next stop would likely be 164, then 156 and 152. ...
All of this ruminating came about while I was trying to decide about the June Challenges. I will definitely do the Exercise Challenge, though I still need to decide for how many minutes since my schedule will be all out of whack with school ending and I have 3 sets of overlapping houseguests from June 15 - July 3rd and another group tentatively coming in July 3 -10. I am very conflicted on the Weight Loss Challenge however. With the houseguests I know I am going to be tempted over and over again food wise so maybe the Challenge will be good to keep me motivated. Once I set a challenge for myself, I really don't like to fail. However, I feel like with exercise, this is something I have control over. Either I do it or I don't and I am in control of that choice. I don't always feel that way about my weight. I eat right, I exercise and it doesn't budge. I screw up and maybe it goes down. WTH?! :confused3 TOM plays a part too.... Too many random variables for me. I like a more direct cause and effect. I don't know what to do on this one ... Opinions appreciated....
Enough long windedness ... On to todays info.
Food:
7:30a: 1c GoLean Cereal, 12 oz skim milk
11:30a: 3/4c LF split pea soup, 1/2 turkey & avocado sandwich - I was starving and actually made a whole sandwich. However, after I had finished the soup and 1/2 the sandwich I was full so I wrapped up the 2nd half for tomorrow! :banana:
3:15p: granola bar
5:30p: 2 slices salami :sad2:
6:30p: "Light" Italian quiche w/ salami, provolone, & parmesan; green salad w/ tomato, avacado, parmesan; 12 oz skim milk
Totals:
Cal: 1247, Fat: 52g, Carbs: 139g, Fiber: 21g, Protein: 73g -- the avocado really skewed the fat #, but they are in season right now ...
Water: 100 oz
Exercise: Walk with DD2 in Jogger stroller: 3.7 miles in 61 minutes, avg 3.6 mph :cool1:
Anna
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tracey, the exercise challenge has been great for me. Amy (lovinaz) can give a much better explaination, but basically, you decide how many minutes you want to commit to for the month and then update your totals periodically. I am competitive enough and don't like to fail, so the challenge gets me out the door to exercise when I might not otherwise.

Jane, so you were trying to poison DH with the rhubarb pie .... just kidding! The pie really was good, but I think I'll stay away from raw stuff just in case. :rotfl2:

Amy, thanks again for doing the exercise challenge last month. It really kept me going. I will definitely do the June Challenge just not sure about the time. A part of me thinks I should still commit to 1200 minutes since one of my original goals was to exercise for at least 60 minutes 5X/week.

I bought the GoLean at Costco so I still have quite a bit to finish. Nobody else seems to like it (too crunchy!). When it is gone, I'll have to try the Grape Nut one.

Goldcupmom & Tracy and everyone, thanks for the encouragement. I really appreciate it! :teeth:

Anna - hey great job on the weight loss and awesome job on the exercise challenge!!! As far as what you should do with your busy June.....I'd not worry so much about the food and just remember that things are ok in moderation, just try not to overdo it....as far as the exercise, would you be able to get out early before everyone wakes up or maybe late in the evening when everyone is winding down? dunno...just a thought!

Keep up the great work and sorry for not stopping by in such a long time :)

06-01-2006, 10:22 AM
Anna, just do what is right for you on the June exercise challenge. I had to lower my minutes this month because I know there are some obstacles that will get in the way of my workouts. I set it just a little bit higher than I know I can FOR SURE do, to make me work a little harder.

As for the weightloss challenges, I don't do those. I did them when I first started WISH and I think the most I ever lost was 1lb. It was too frustrating so I don't do them anymore. It is entirely up to you. Not everyone can lose 5lbs in a month, and others can lose more than that.

And don't get into the mindset that you will be stuck at 172!!! I think your mind plays a big part in losing weight. If you think you will get stuck, you just might sabotage yourself into getting stuck. Keep doing what you are doing and you will continue to lose at a steady pace.

Congrats on making your exercise challenge!!! :cool1: :banana: :Pinkbounc :yay:

Interesting post about set points. There's so much information about weightloss and diets now - its an interesting theory. All I know is I got stuck at 159 for a long time and I was so glad to break that barrier but now I can't seem to keep my weight at 149. I'll get down to the 140's for a few days then jump back up the scale again. Probably has something to do with chili cheese dogs and coffee ice cream!

It may be slow but at least we're headed in the right direction. You've not only increased your walking speed but also your metabolism. There's so many other factors involved in eating a healthy diet & exercising. Looks like you're having a very busy summer. That in itself should help keep you in shape!

The "end of school" activities have begun. I swear I think I could started eating today and not stop until sometime mid July! This morning was the PTA board meeting and elections. My kids are impressed that I am now VP of Communications. All it really means though is that instead of just editting the newsletter each month, now I get to pick it up from the printer and put them in the teacher's boxes too! :rotfl2: After the meeting it was off to Toddler Class and then dropped DD2 off at the neighbor's for an hour while I went back to school for the Volunteer Luncheon. Throughout the year different classes bring in monthly lunches for the teachers. At the end of the year, the teachers do a lunch for the volunteers. It is +30ft of tables loaded with salads and then more tables loaded with desserts. Really, really good! I was reasonably controlled though. I took small portions of a variety of salads and did not overload my plate. I passed on all the bread. Then when the others went to the dessert table I decided to go get a little more additional salad. I did end up getting a few desserts too though, but not as much as I would have in the past.

Food:
7:20a: whole wheat toast w/ PB & blueberry jam
10:30a: toddler class: 4 bites of watermelon, 1/2 string cheese
12:15p: many salads, small chocolate cupcake thing, 3 bites carrot cake, small raspberry bar, 2 glasses iced tea
6:30p: 6 handmade tortilla chips from local market (yum!!), small salad w/ tomato, sprinkle of parmesan, balsalmic vinegar - I called DH and told him he and the kids were on there own for dinner. He brought home salmon to grill - perfect! I can't stand fish and they love it.
Resisted: coffee cake at PTA meeting, pasta & potato salads, bread, many more desserts, more chips w/ DH before dinner

Totals:
didn't do these today with all the salads & desserts, but probably lots of fat, minimal protein.

Water: 104 oz

Exercise: none.

Thank you all for your input on my long ramblings yesterday. I appreciate everyone's insight.

I decided to do 1150 for the June exercise challenge. This is definitely going to be a stretch with all of the other activities going on, but I am determined to do this!

I decided not to do the Weight loss challenge this month. I don't want to fail and with everything going on that would be a strong possibility. I did sign up for the new year new you hydration challenge. Generally this should not be a problem for me, but this challenge will keep me going on the busy days.

Scott, thanks for your suggestions. I definitely am getting better about moderation, but I'll have to remember this and not "give up" when there is one event after another.

Amy, thanks for sharing your experiences with the challenges. I probably set my exercise challenge too high, but with all the eating going on, I really wanted to keep pushing myself exercise wise. You are right about working on my mindset! I WILL get past 172, and sooner rather than later. I can do this, I will do this. Thanks for reminding me!

Jane, good point about metabolism. I hadn't thought of that. Another good reason to not slack on the exercise! :yay: As long as the scale keeps going down, even slowly, I am happy. This is a lifestyle now. This month will be a good challenge/test for me. Visitors are great, but so often it means eating out, lots of munching and cocktails by the pool, etc.

While I did well at the luncheon on thursday, I was not so good at DDs' Honor Choir Beach Party last night. It was just so fun to be down at the beach with people I like. The weather was gorgeous (no June Gloom!) and all the kids were having a great time. Should have left it at that, but no. Hot dogs, cheetos, potato chips & onion dip, spinach dip, pasta salads, s'mores. About the only thing I didn't have was anything from the veggie platter?! My body is not too happy with me now, so maybe I'll behave better next time. Ugh!

The rest of the day was actually great. The music teacher went to the beach early in the morning to stake out a fire pit & some tables, then parents took turns "hangin' at the beach" with the fire ring during the school day. DD2 and I took the 9-10 shift. We had a great time. Played at the playground near by, then at 10 went and played in the waves for awhile. Then since it was a really low tide, I was able to walk along the waterline with the jogger stroller for 60 minutes. I even ran for a few minutes! The sun broke out about 20 minutes before my walk ended. I forget how nice it it as the beach in the mornings. I need to come down more often.

Food
7:45a: 1c GoLean Cereal, 12 oz`skim milk
12: 20p: 1/2 turkey sandwich on whole wheat
3:00p: 6 oz FF yogurt
5 - 9pm: Hot dog w/ bun, cheetos, potato chips & onion dip, spinach dip, other misc similar stuff, pasta salads, s'mores

Water: 104 oz

Exercise: 60 minutes walk w/ jogger stroller at the water line. 3.9 miles, 3.9 mph (jogged 7 minutes total)

Amy & Amy - I felt pretty good after the volunteer luncheon, not so good after Honor Choir. When I am really content/happy, I don't think about my weight which is great, but then I tend to overeat. Gotta work on that. The exercise challenge will be tough, but yesterday was a great start. Thanks for stopping by my journal. I really appreciate your encouragement. :)

Anna, picnics/parties like that are so hard to do well at. You had a good time and you are back on track now which is what really counts. And I don't think it sounds like you did all that badly. I'll bet in previous times, before you journaled what you ate and took such good care of yourself, you would have eaten much more! And what a treat to get a nice long walk like that in at the beach no less. I am so envious! Have a great rest of the weekend and thanks for your encouragement. We are all here for each other!

I see that hot dogs have made an appearance in your thread too! What is it with those darn things. When you're really hungry theres nothing like a hotdog with all kinds of bad stuff in it & with it! The s'mores alone would do me in!

Great job with your beach walking! I always find it tougher to walk on the beach than on the street. I bet your using new muscles.

I wouldn't worry about the beach party. At least you got a walk in! You are off to a good start with your exercise challenge. It seems like when I try to be good I always overdo it in other ways (like I avoided cake and ice cream but ate about 2200 calories worth of cheese & crackers :rolleyes: ). As long as those splurges are only occasionally, you will continue to lose! :thumbsup2

Today was DDs' piano recital - meant cookies and going out to dinner afterward with my MIL. :guilty: I was only half joking earlier about starting to eat on 6/1 and not stopping until after the 4th of July! So many activities involve eating right now - ugh!

DD2 and I spent most of the recital in the foyer outside so we would not interupt the other performers. Guess where the cookies were!? I did ok during the recital - only at half of the lemon cookie DD decided she didn't like. After the recital I had one oatmeal cookie - yummy! So I had another (oops!) and then followed with a chocolate chip. :sad2: Then it was time to go to dinner! At Olive Garden I did better. I had looked stuff up on the internet before hand and knew what I would order: LF soup & low carb entree.

One good note: DD10 needed to make "hush puppies" for her pioneer project. It called for bacon grease as an ingredient :scared: I realized while I was cooking up the bacon (to get the resulting bacon grease!) that I was not at all tempted to have a piece of bacon. I don't know if it was because we had just finished breakfast and I wasn't hungry or what, but in the past there is no way I would have been able to cook bacon and not nibble.

Food:
10:30a - 3 pancakes, 2T maple syrup, 1/2 banana, 12 oz skim milk
2:30p - 6 oz FF peach yogurt
5:00p: 3.5 cookies
6:00p: (Olive Garden) - 1 bowl minestrone soup, Pork tenderloin, sauteed zucchini, 1/2 glass wine, 1 Andes mint
resisted: breadsticks, "zuppa" soup, pasta dishes

Water: 100+ oz (I drank at least 82 at home and then the waiter refilled my water glass at least 5 times at dinner)

Exercise: none

The beach walk was awesome. I am going to check the tide schedules and see if I can get a few more of those in before school gets out. :cool1: I do have a few sore muscles, but what really hurts are my sunburned shoulders. Why do I insist on putting sunscreen on my kids, and think I don't need it myself if it is not too sunny?

Unfortunately, the splurges/parties are on a daily basis right now. :crazy: There are 2 events this week. One will be an easy one to be good at, but the other is an unknown. One of the reasons I kept my exercise challenge high this month is because I knew I would need to get all my exercise in to try and counteract the constant eating challenges.

The hot dog was good, but I definitely lost control with all the other munchie stuff at the beach party. I would have had more S'mores too, but I realized I was the only grown up roasting. :blush:

Thanks everyone for stopping by my journal. I appreciate your encouragement for what is going to be a very challenging month. :crazy:

Oh I don't think I will ever be able to eat hush puppies again! I can't believe there is bacon grease in them! WAY TO GO resisting the bacon! I have done some serious damage with that stuff. There's no such thing as one strip. It's either nothing or half a pigs worth! :rotfl:

That stinks that you have so many eating challenges coming up, but try to be prepared and it will be so much easier! That was great planning with Olive Garden! :cheer2: And you are right - when you know you will be eating more, you need to up those exercise minutes. You'll survive!

Today was better about getting back on track. I didn't exercise, and I missed lunch, but otherwise, it was ok. I didn't even pig out on the chips and guacamole even though I really wanted to!

Food:
8:45a: scrambled egg w/ cheese, 1.5 strips bacon, 1/2 slice cinnamon toast, 1/2 grapefruit, 12 oz skim milk
3:00p: granola bar, blueberry banana smoothie
6:15p: 2 turkey hot dogs, 1c baked beans, 5 tortilla chips w/ guacamole
Resisted: more cinnamon toast, more guacamole & chips!

Water: 112 oz

Amy, :rotfl2: the epicurious recipe did not call for bacon grease, just bacon pieces. However, the "pioneer" recipe from the Oregon Trail Museum did call for bacon grease, then deep fried in oil/grease. I'm not going anywhere near these things! :rotfl2:

Generally, I always eat extra bacon while I'm cooking, but not this time! :banana: Of course, now I have a lb of cooked bacon to deal with, but it is not nearly as enticing if it is not hot. I think we may have cobb salad for dinner tomorrow night. :teeth: Any other suggestions for what to do with a bunch of cooked bacon?

Other WI this morning, Good day today. WI = 174.5, up 2.5lbs :sad2: Three days of parties took its toll. The only good thing is it gave me good resolve to get back on track on the non-party days and to get serious about my exercise to counteract the party days. It was low tide again this morning so I walked with DD2 in the jogger stroller along the beach for 60 minutes. It was a great walk. I felt like I could just walk forever. :cool1:

The older two girls started back to swim practice again this afternoon. They are on a local swim team. Since it was their first day back in two months, I took them to Baskin Robbins as a treat before practice - and didn't get anything for myself! :banana: Normally, I drop the girls off and DH picks them up on the way home from work. DH's car is in the shop this week, so I had to hang out for 2 hours at the pool with a cranky 2 year old. Since the stroller was in the car, I decided to take another walk! There are some huge hills in the neighborhood around the pool!

Food:
8:10a - whole wheat toast w/ pb & j
11:00a - granola bar
1:00p - 1c FF cottage cheese w/ 1/4c sausage
3:00p - granola bar (while DD's ate BR ice cream before swim!)
5:45p - beer & small ginger snap cookie (!)
6:30p- grilled turkey sausage, 1/2c green beans, 1c sauerkraut, 8 baby carrots, 12 oz skim milk
Resisted: BR ice cream, another beer
Totals: Cal: 1200, Fat: 39g, Carbs: 132g, Fiber: 16g, Protein: 71g

Water: 128 oz - two walks meant I drank a lot of water.

Exercise: 60 minutes w/ jogger stroller along the beach, 45 minutes w/ stroller on major hills.

Jane, I love the beach walks. I take my shoes off and walk right at the waterline. It is so soothing.

Amy & Jane, I could guess that the scale was headed up so that provided the incentive to back off on the chips. For the bacon, I thought of BLT's too, but I think I am going to make a Carbonara pasta tomorrow for dinner w/ the bacon. It also uses eggs & cheese. I am going to have to adjust my food for the rest of the day, but it is the kids favorite (they ate it almost everyday when we went to Italy a couple of years ago). I'll only have a small portion (hopefully!) and make sliced tomatoes or a green salad too.

Jaime & Tracy, thanks stopping by my journal. This is going to be a rough month eating wise, so I really appreciate all your encouragement.

Wow Anna, you resisted and controlled yourself with: chips, guac, Olive Garden, more cookies and bacon. Way to go! No suggestions on what to do with one pound of cooked bacon, cobb salad sounds like a winner. Or you could fex ex it to my husband since he is a bacon addict and I won't ever make it! I was just saying that right now is harder for me to do good on my plan than winter. I too seem to have a lot of special events coming up and to me summer means beer and chips on the deck! The fresh fruit and more daylight time to exercise helps but summer goodies are way more tempting to me than winter ones. Just hang in there and keep up what you are doing since you are doing great!

Please email me some of that pasta - I've heard of it but never had it but it sounds so delicious! Anything with bacon!

Those swim team workouts are tough. Great exercise for your daughters! Older ds decided he wanted to join the swim team in first or second grade - whichever it was - it was the mininimum age for acceptance. The very first time they had them practice swimming in lanes he bumped heads with another kid - and it was my ds fault! After a year of it - he gave it up - decided it wasn't for him. I was always impressed with how hard and how fast the kids worked. Your girls ought to be in great shape after a summer of those workouts!

:banana: Good job avoiding Baskin Robbins!

I really wanted to be able to indulge in some Carbonara Spaghetti tonight for dinner so I focused on being really good the rest of the day. I pre-entered everything into Fitday so I knew what I could have. At dinner I had 1 cup of pasta (seemed mighty small to me!), but I wanted more. So I ate my salad and some tomato, and drank another whole glass of water. I still wanted more pasta. This craving was not going to go away, so I had another +1/2c of pasta. In the past those two servings would not have equaled a single serving for me AND I would have had seconds! This is not a recipe that can be “lightened” however, I did use whole wheat pasta.

For exercise today I walked w/ the jogger stroller to our polling place to vote and then to school to pick up DD’s. This election is to replace “Duke” Cunningham (former congressman, current convict!) among other things. Usually elections in our town are very low key and nonevents. This time though, the national parties decided to get involved in a major way. In the past week I have been getting 6-8 computer generated calls A DAY urging me to vote one way or the other. There were 9 (I counted!) fliers in Saturday’s mail. Nearly every ad on TV is political. DH and I generally split the ticket so it has made for some lively dinner conversations. I will be very glad when this election is over. I don’t know how those of you in regularly “contested” states/races put up with it. OK, I’m done with my rant!

Food:
8:10a: GoLean Cereal, ½ grapefruit, 12 oz skim milk
10:45a: Fruit leather
12:30p: 1c Tomato & Roasted Red Pepper soup (yummy!), 1 serving baked pita chips, 1 serving HC deli turkey
3:30p: 14 oz skim milk
6:00p: +1.5c Carbonara pasta, 3c salad w/ FF dressing, 8 grape tomatoes
Resisted: inhaling all the pasta in the serving bowl!
Totals:

Water: 120 oz

Exercise: 55 minutes w/ jogger stroller

Amy, I am with ya! I love summer for the longer days, warm sun, loose schedule, but definitely the "temptations" are way more enticing. For me it is drinks by the pool: wine, margaritas, mai tai's, you name it! And of course, there need to be nibbles with those drinks and veggies just are not what I generally have in mind! :crazy:

Scott, I forget about going to the beach, but it really is awesome, especially in the mornings when it is all misty. Thanks for the compliment. Some might say I am more stubborn :rolleyes1 than determined, but by whatever name, I'll take it if it gets me where I want to be - thinner and healthier!

Amy & Jaime, Resisting BR was hard, but I have so many events this month that I figure I better resist all the day to day temptations where I can. I didn't actually go inside BR, that would have been too hard, I think. DD2 was asleep in the car, so I parked directly in front of the store and sent the older two DD's in. I could see them the whole time through the windows. Funny, I am pretty sure they didn't get "kid" scoops this time. :rotfl2:

Jane, The pasta is really good, but so not WISH approved! Fat, fat, carbs, and more fat! DD's like swim team in the summer, not so much in the winter since the pool is outdoors. Hopefully, DD12 will be able to use it as Independent Study PE next year at Middle School. Supposedly, the PE program is really not good. Reminds me I need to call tomorrow and get the I.S.P.E. paperwork started.

I hope to get to journals later tonight. Thanks everyone for stopping by. I really appreciate your encouragement. :teeth:

I did well today until dinner. DH's business trip got cancelled at the last minute today so I needed to pick him up after work (he had gotten a lift in this morning.). After swim practice and picking up DH, it is 6 pm and the bad commute puts us an hour from home. So we went to Soup Plantation for dinner. I did pass up some of my favorites, but I still ate too much.

Food:
8:10a - GoLean Cereal, 12 oz skim milk
10:30a - 1/2 grapefruit
12:00p - 1c LF split pea soup, 1 oz ham, 1/2 serving Pirates Booty
2:20p - granola bar
6:00p - variety of green salads, small bowl lemon orzo soup, small lemon muffin, small blueberry muffin, 1 bite lemon lava cake
Resisted: more salads, more muffins, honey butter, ice cream w/ carmel sauce

Water: +104 oz

Exercise: 60 minute walk w/ jogger stroller on the hills during swim practice

Well I knew today would be a bad one. I just didn’t realize how bad! For DD’s Toddler Class Picnic I had signed up to bring a spinach salad. I found a great recipe w/ mango and candied walnuts. Those walnuts became a problem! After I had candied the darn things, I tasted one to see what it tasted like – OMG!!!!! I had doubled the recipe when I made the walnuts, but didn’t end up needing to double the salad. I had an extra cup of candied walnuts. They are all gone now. I couldn’t stop. :sad2:

I didn’t do much better at the Picnic (I knew this one would be a tough.) One mom had brought homemade tamales, sweet & spicy. Her tamales are to die for. I had one of each, along with a bunch of other stuff. It is the first time that I have had that uncomfortably full feeling in a long time. Ugh!

Then, I carbo-crashed in the afternoon. I was reading a book at the end of DD’s swim practice and nearly fell asleep in the chair. Granted, I only had about 4 hours of sleep last night and not a lot more the previous night. So what do we have for dinner? DH feels like pizza!

To top it all off, since I was running around all day (only sat down for those last 15 minutes at swim practice), I had not even come close to drinking enough water. Since I didn’t want to miss a day for the June hydration challenge (yes, I am competitive!) I drank 54 oz with dinner. I think I might float away now…

Food:
8:10a – GoLean Cereal, 12 oz skim milk
9:30a – 1/4c candied walnuts, 1/4c sliced mango
11:30a – Toddler Class Picnic: sweet tamale, spicy tamale, big slice of veggie quiche, 3c spinach and mango salad, 1/4c pasta salad
2:00p – ½ c candied walnuts
3:30p – 1/3c banana chips
6:00p – ½ c candied walnuts
6:30p – 1c spinach and mango salad, 1 slice pizza (at least all the water filled me up and I didn’t have a second piece of pizza!)
Totals (guesstimates)
Cal: 2223g, Fat: 141g!, Carbs: 193g, Fiber: 29g, Protein: 79g

Water: 104 oz

Exercise: 60 minutes, walked w/ jogger stroller to Toddler Class, 30 minutes each way.

Tracy, thanks for stopping by. I always enjoy seeing that you have visited.

Amy, Yep. DH has even gotten as far as the airport and had a meeting cancelled or more often, he gets called to go on a trip with only a day's notice. I'm used to it. Generally he is only gone for a few days though. A month would be tough! I haven't put weights in yet. I know I should.

Amy, I remember going to Soup Plantation in the past and having two platefuls of salad, soups, and multiple muffins and desserts. I wonder now how I could have eaten that much? Pool drinks and vacations go together for me. Have a great time at the original Mouse House next week! :sunny:

Jane: Honey butter is so good! But I knew that I would have a challenging day today, so I better cut back where ever else I could. Our family really likes Italian food, both the american version and authentic. We went to Italy a couple of years ago for 2.5 weeks (Tagged along on one of DH's business trips!) The food was heavenly. DD's made a point of finding a new gelato shop for us each day. Surprisingly, I didn't gain a single pound on that trip. Within each city we walked just about everywhere we went and climbed hundreds (maybe thousands!) of stairs. I was still nursing youngest DD (9 mos at the time) which helped too.

Thanks everyone for stopping by. I'll try and get to journals tomorrow. I need to get DD into bed, and then I think I need to go to sleep too!

It wasn't a good feeling being so full, was it? It's been a while since I've been that way and it is SO miserable. To think I used to do that to myself all the time. Yay for you noticing that you felt yucky! You can use that knowledge to behave at your party today! :cheer2:

I would have done the exact same thing with the walnuts. Nuts are one trigger food I can't have around. The only reason I have been able to enjoy almonds is because I get the individually packaged 1.2oz from Trader Joe's. It makes me so mad because DH can buy a huge bag and take a handful here or there and the bag lasts forever...

Another Crazy day, but at least it is the end of the week! Spent the morning cleaning house (yuck!) Along with the usual stuff, I had to reclaim the guestroom before the guests get here! :rotfl2: The older two DD's think it is a great place to play where youngest DD can't get to them. Legos, Barbies & horses, and sewing stuff everywhere! Oh, and on the rare occasion that I get to scrapbook, I have all my scrapbook stuff in there too. This all translated to "Heep BigMess!" Then I spent all afternoon finishing up the PTA newsletter. Finished that at 5:56pm and left for the school for the Aloha Party at 6pm. I didn't get my walk in, but I figure +3 hours of housecleaning has got to count for at least 60 minutes of exercise. Right?

I was low on water again, but only had to drink 20 oz's after dinner, so not as bad as yesterday. I had missed eating snacks today so I actually thought I was going to be low calorie wise, but I just looked up the salad (provided by a local restaurant) - OMG! It was a good salad, but definitely not worth that many calories. I'll remember that next time I go there and just get the burger & fries.

Food:
8:15a: 1c GoLean Cereal, 12 oz skim milk (I'm in a rut here, but it works for me :teeth: )

Today's party was pretty easy. I just need to remember that "I'm too full" feeling at next week's party. The food at that one will be great, and they are mixing "tornadoes". I don't know what that is, but it sounds goooooooood!

This is our last weekend before our first set of houseguests arrive so we are doing a lot of "chores" getting ready. :teeth: Decent day eating wise except I ate too many potstickers at dinner. I realized afterward that I hadn't had much protein druing the day.

Food:
8:30a - 3 pancakes w/ maple syrup, 1/2 banana, 12 oz skim milk
11:00a - 6 oz FF yogurt
1:15p - 1c tomato & roasted red pepper soup, 1 serving Pirates Booty
3:00p - 1 pc beef jerky
5:00p - papaya
7:15p - 8 potstickers (but no rice!)
Totals:
Cal: 1571, Fat: 29g, Carbs: 262g, Fiber: 15g, Protein: 67g

Water: 104 oz

Exercise: pulled weeds, moved patio furniture around, but not enough to count for anything.

Food:
9:30a - 6oz FF yogurt, 12 oz skim milk
1:00p - granola bar
2:00p - small serving BBQ tri tip, small serving BBQ sausage
5:00p - 100 cal pack PB cookie crisps, 8 oz skim milk
6:30p - taco casserole, 1 margarita
Resisted: extra fritos w/ casserole, another margarita

Water: 105 oz

Exercise: lots of chore stuff, but no real exercise. :sad2:

Tracy & Amy, thanks for stopping by my journal. Definitely did not eat healthy today. I avoided the bad stuff for the most part, but didn't have a single veg or fruit. 1st Company arrives thursday night and then it is a steady stream of visitors until July 10! Got a lot to do still between now and thursday, but I am really going to work hard to get my exercise in now and when everyone is here too.

Even though you are not exercising, you are still being active! That's better than sitting on the couch eating Ben & Jerry's right out of the container, right?!?!?

I'm glad to see you are getting ready for your visitors. I am always still running the vacuum when they ring the doorbell... :confused3

Great plan to get those workouts in when you have company! Maybe some of them will want to go on your walks with you.

Yesterday was a non-stop day - no time to even eat bad stuff (or good stuff either, for that matter.) Every meal except lunch was on the run. I did drink a lot of water though. I keep a Costco flat of water bottles in the car and went through quite a few yesterday. Day started with a "Retro Bill" assembly for the kids at school, drug awareness and general safety. In the afternoon, there was a parents forum "Preparing for the Social Pressures of your Middle Schooler". Both were very good, but frightening as to what kids are getting into at such a young age. :sad2: In between the two, I had a delightful picnic at the park with a fellow DIS'er! :sunny: and DD2 got to have some play time. The planned walk during swim practice didn't happen, unfortunately. DD2 was sound asleep in her car seat practically before we left school for the pool. If I tried to move her to her stroller she would have woken up and she really needed that nap. The evening was also jammed up with a meeting for some work we're having done at the house and then finished up the final edits to the PTA newsletter at around 10:30pm.

Food:
8:10a - 6 oz FF yogurt, 12 oz skim milk, 2 bites chocolate croissant (DD2 was not interested in sharing much with mommy :rotfl2: )
11:45a - McD Asian Chicken Salad, 1 french fry
3:00p - granola bar (need to find a new summer snack to leave in the car. It was very sticky after a hot afternoon in the car.)
5:40p - 3/4 pc grilled sausage
Resisted: DD's french fries (They weren't that good.)
Totals:
Cal: 895, Fat: 26 oz, Carbs: 103g, Fiber: 9g, Protein: 68g

Water: 122 oz

Exercise: none.

Marie - welcome back! :wave: I've missed your "tell it like it is" advice. :banana: :teeth: Confession: I like to journal right after dinner, so DH gets to deal with the bickering DD's doing the dishes, etc.

Tracy, still have quite a bit to do before the first wave of houseguests arrive on Thursday night. It will be a busy week.

Amy, my leg muscles are sore today! I don't even know what I was doing sunday, but something was using muscles that hadn't been used for awhile. I'm sure I'll still be running around doing last minute stuff as people are arriving :rotfl2: I know my DF visiting this weekend will walk with me, and hopefully my DSIL will walk with me too next week.

Jane, I hear ya on the housework! All of the houseguests visiting are close friends or family, all of whom I like. They will be great visits, just no "breathing space" inbetween each visit. It will be fun and worth it, but exhausting and hopefully not TOO diet destroying.

Thank you all for stopping by. I appreciate it. I'll try and get to journals tonight. Darn, I just realized we can't walk to school today. DD10 has to take her keyboard to school for class talent show practice. Gonna have to work the walk in somewhere else in the day ...

You'll get that walk in somehow! The one good thing you have about all these visitors is that it is at YOUR house, therefore you have control over what food is being served, etc. That is a big plus and should help you behave! :teeth:

I forgot to say that WI yesterday was 171.5 - so I took of the nasty 2.5 lbs from the week before plus another .5lbs. :banana: Got the PTA newsletter done and to the printer and then spent an hour on the couch with DD2 watching Sesame Street. She has definitely not gotten a lot of attention the last couple of days so we did some bonding. Andre Bonicelli (sp?), Italian opera tenor, did a duet with Elmo. It was hysterical. Ok, I just reread that. I am pretty pathetic to be amused by Sesame Street. Oh, well. I have no life - but it was funny! :happytv: Did get a walk in finally in the afternoon. DH has a bunch of stuff going on at work so when he wanted to share his 3 Musketeers Ice Cream bar with me and wanted teriyaki take out for dinner, I agreed.

Food:
8:10a - whole wheat toast w/ PB&J, 10 oz skim milk
9:45a - granola bar (on the way to the printers)
12: 15p - 1c tomato & red pepper soup, 6 triscuits, 1 slice cheese
3:00p - 1/2 papaya, 1/2c FF cottage cheese w/ olives
6:00p - 1/2 3 musketeers ice cream bar w/ DH
6:20p - teriyaki steak kabob, 1.5 chicken kabob, 1c cabbage salad (FF dressing)
Totals:
Cal: 1781, Fat: 74g, Carbs: 134g, Fiber: 15g, Protein: 155g

Exercise: 45 minute walk w/ jogger stroller, then 30 minute walk home from school (75 minutes total)

Great day eating wise, not so good exercise wise. I had planned to squeeze in a quick 30 minute walk at swim practice before running down to pick DH up from his office (His car is still not done! Repair place rented him a car tonight until his is ready so I can go back to being taxi mom for the kids only.) Walk didn't happen. DD10 forgot her suit for swim practice so instead of my walk I ran her to Big5 and bought a new suit. She needed one anyway, but sheesh! How can you not pack your swimsuit into your swim bag for swim practice? Of course, DD12 did exactly the same thing last week only I had just bought her a new suit and wasn't about to shell out another $60 for another suit -- so she didn't swim that day. I think DD10 was a bit bummed that she still had to swim, but she does like her new suit and she did need it. Enough rambling ...

Food:
8:10a - 1c GoLean Cereal, 12 oz skim milk
10:30a - 11 baby carrots
12:00p - 2c lettuce, chicken breast, 1/2T teriyaki sauce
2:30p - 1/2 papaya, 6 oz FF yogurt
6:00p - 3/4c LF split pea soup, 1/2 serving pita chips, 12 oz skim milk
7:00p - 1/2c golden crisp cereal, 12oz skim milk (needed something sweet - TOM)

Amy, When DH's family visits I definitely need a drink (generally have to start drinking mimosas by 8am on Christmas morning! :rotfl2:) to get through the visit. The visitors this time are not in that category for the most part! :rotfl2: We just have an awful lot of fun together. :teeth:

Tracy, thanks for your encouragement. I am really looking forward to my visitors.

Amy, Nearly lost it tonight when I started thinking about the last giant macaroon in the freezer - too much mac talk - but settled for the cereal. Good idea on the water. I have done that in the past (not for caloric reasons, just to slow down! :crazy: ), but I had forgotten about it. Definitely will have to do that! Thanks for the advice.

Jane, I spend so much time running around in the car, it really helps to have something readily available. I do need to find a better "summer" car snack. Melty granola bars just aren't right. I think I am going to try Amy's almond snacks, but I don't know if I can just eat one....

Great job on your food yesterday! I've had DD forget her tap shoes before. I made her go without shoes... Needless to say, she only did that once - I bet it's hard to tap with no shoes on! :rotfl:

You can control yourself with the single serve almonds! For me, it is just the thought that another baggie would be another 210 calories and I am not willing to take that hit. And there are about 20-24 almonds in the bag, and that seems like a perfect amount. They would go great in the car - I keep one in my desk.

Have fun with all your guests!

Congrats on another day of good eating! Those almonds Amy mentioned sound good - they won't melt in the car & they're high in protein. I keep slivered almonds in my fridge and they're great for adding to salads, cereals and oatmeal to increase the protein content.

Sounds like your kids are keeping you busy with all of the swim practices, errands & stuff. Sorry you missed your walk but I know how that goes.

I thought of you all this evening at my PTA board meeting/party. I grabbed a bottle of wine from DH's wine frig to take to the party. Guess it was a really good one 'cause people were impressed. (Heck, It was at the front of the wine frig and it had a pretty label! :rotfl2: ) It was good and so were the other 4 glasses of wine and the hurricane! :rotfl2:

So this morning I WI - 169.5. This is my new base. My goal is to be at or below this for the next 25 days of houseguests. At the party this evening, I was pretty impressed with myself food wise. I dipped jicama into the guacamole dip instead of chips, ate small portions of the other stuff, and skipped the bread. All in all, it was better than I thought it would be except for the drinks. I did drink 3-4 bottles of water - alternated 1/2 bottle water w/ each "other" drink. :teeth: Now I am just trying to stay awake waiting for my houseguest to arrive - not an easy task since it is way past my normal bedtime and wine makes me sleepy besides.

Spent the day in frantic "get ready" mode, then picked the kids up from school. DD12 had the meltdown I have seen coming all week "I don't want to go to middle school!" She loves school and hates for it to end every year. Finishing elementary school is only making it worse. Finally I decided that she would skip the club swim meet this afternoon, but DD10 still wanted to do the meet. :crazy: Took DD10 to the swim meet and then swapped cars/kids w/ DH at the after swim pizza party. Came home got a 2 minute shower and ran off to the above mentioned PTA party. :crazy:

Food:
8:00a - whole wheat toast w/ PB&J, 12oz skim milk
2:00p - 2 hot dogs, 4 oz blueberries, skim milk(?)
6:15p - 5 glasses wine, 1 hurricane, jicama & guacamole, tri-tip, assorted salads, 2 slivers of chocolate cake, bite of PB brownie/cookie thing.

Water: 90oz before the party + 3-4 16 oz bottles

Exercise: none :sad2:

We are in the same exercise rut! :guilty: I thought of you yesterday - I was getting the kids bag ready for today (they go swimming 2x a week at their day camp) and asked DD7 to get me her swim suit so I could wash it. She couldn't find it and started crying. We looked all over, I think she left it at the camp. I told her she wouldn't be able to go swimming (it was 7pm, not like I was going to run out and get her another one!) and she proceeded to cry for about 1/2 hour! Lucky for her DH was out and about and picked her up a new one. We told her next time she will have to go without swimming to learn a lesson about responsibility...

Congrats on the weigh-in! You can kiss those 170's goodbye! :wave:

You did great at the PTA party. I love jicama with hummus. You enjoyed some things in moderation, which is exactly what you are supposed to do!!

Have fun with all your houseguests!

Yesterday was hectic, but ok eating wise. Drank a lot of water instead of munching. Got the kids to school (not easy since they were excited about their friends being here). I got a walk in when I picked the kids up from school. :cool1: DHouseguests are former neighbors so we picked up a few extra kids for the afternoon. At one point we had 8 kids: 2, 5, 7,8,10,10,11,12 - fun, but wild. Houseguests went to another friends for dinner so DD12 and I ran out after dinner to find shoes for her to wear at 6th grade promotion next week.

In the middle of all of this crazy end of school/houseguest/etc time, DH accepted a new job offer yesterday. :banana: :banana: so we have spent long evenings this past week discussing +/-'s. He loves his current job, but this is such a good opportunity we decided he couldn't pass it up. So he is going to be super busy getting things in order at his current job then coming up to speed at his new company. With all of this I am not getting enough sleep. Every time I have sat down for the past week, I start to fall asleep. Not good when watching 8 kids in the pool! I did get to sleep in this morning until 7:30 so I hope that helps.

Food:
7:00a - oatmeal, 1T slivered almonds, 8 oz skim milk
11:45a - 5 blueberries (all I could get from the kids)
1:30p - 2 tortilla chips
2:00p - 3/4c LF split pea soup, 6 triscuits, slice cheese
6:30p - 1/2 chicken breast, 1c broccoli, 3/4 wheat pilaf, 12 oz skim milk
Resisted: Mrs. Fields cookies and Coldstone Ice Cream while DD shoe shopping.
Totals: cal: 1097, fat: 30g, Carbs: 132g, Fiber: 20g, Protein: 83g

Water: 124oz

Exercise: 60 minute walk w/ jogger stroller - yay!

Eating on Sunday was no better, but at least I wasn't drinking like a fish. Monday was back in control. Sunday was pretty lowkey hanging out by the pool. It is DD's 3rd birthday, so we had a cake, but no other stuff. We are celebrating this weekend when my family is here. This is probably the last year we can get away with moving her birthday around before she actually starts to figure it out. :rotfl2: With the houseguests, etc. DH really got the short end of the stick for Father's Day. I told him he could have a "do over" weekend sometime in July. On Monday, DH was back to work and my kids were back in school (3 more days!). Planned on going to the beach (and getting a nice walk in!) but everyone just didn't want to get that motivated so another low key pool day w/ houseguests. I did much better resisting the food at least. No dip on my veggies, and only 3 potato chips. First round of houseguests left midafternoon. My DM arrived about the same time. My DB's family had to change their flights from Monday to Wednesday. Dnephew starting throwing up Sunday -- really glad that started Sunday and not Monday when they would have already been here!

Sunday
Food:
b - 3 pancakes w/ blueberries & maple syrup, 3 slices bacon, 1/2c blackberries & strawberries, 1/2c hot chocolate
l - 1/2 grilled chicken breast, 2c potato salad, 2 pieces watermelon
s - way too much spinach dip & bread
d - hot dog, 1 serving pita chips, small slice pineapple upsidedown cake, 2 bites ice cream, 12 oz skim milk
Totals (approx): Cal: 2889, Fat: 141g, Carb: 292g, Fiber: 20g, Protein: 96g

Water: +100 oz

Exercise: swam laps for 20 minutes

Monday
Food:
b - 1c golden crisp cereal, 12oz skim milk
s - 1 grapefruit
l - broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, 3 potato chips & dip
s - 2 hard boiled eggs, 2 bites pineapple upside down cake
d - sort of a nicoise salad w/ potato, egg, chicken, tomato, green beans and spinach, 1/2T dressing, 12oz skim milk
Totals: Cal: 1183, Fat: 32g, Carbs: 149g, Fiber: 9g, Protein: 79g

Water: 104oz

Exercise: none (again!)

Amy, unfortunately I didn't feel stuffed and yucky. You know how to do a fun summer! Enjoy your houseguests and have a great time! Have a margarita for me!

I have about 40 minutes before leaving for the airport to pick up my Dbro family so I thought I would try and do an update.
Tuesday After taking DH his laptop computer (he forgot it! No I will not meet you outside the fair - you start driving from work, I'll meet you half way before I take the kids to school! :crazy: ) I went with DD12 and the rest of the 6th grade to the county fair. They had grown plants as fair entries and also entered some artwork. After the judging, they were free to explore everywhere except the rides and the arcade and they had to stay with a chaperone. At one point one of the 4 girls I was chaperoning asked "why do the teachers let us just run free at the fair?" I answered "because they don't know what else to do with you." The kids mentally checked out a couple of weeks ago and the teachers haven't even tried to do anything academic. We did have fun at the fair. Saw lots of animals, the pig races, a silly dog show and one of my kids took third place in the bubblegum blowing contest. :rotfl2: With the fair comes food. I had three bites of DD12's funnel cake, and 6 fresh, hot mini donuts (you watch them being made - sooo good!). I had brought a yogurt for lunch. I passed up so many goodies only to sucumb to the temptations of chips & fresh salsa before dinner. :sad2:
Wednesday - LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - finally! This morning was 6th grade promotion ceremony. Really nice and well done. DD12 played the piano while people were finding seats. DD10 passed out programs and then changed and went to her own class party. She could have stayed to watch promotion, but decided not to (Let's see, listen to a bunch of speeches and watch your sister get all the attention OR go to her own class "beach" party on the field? Ummmm, not really a hard choice!) In the afternoon, Dmom and I got the guest room ready for my Dbro's family and got DD3's room ready for Dmom & Ddad. (DD3 will sleep in our room for the next 4 nights.) For dinner DD12 wanted to go to Benihana's. After dinner, Dmom went to the airport to pick up Ddad. My Dbro's family had to change their flights so instead of arriving around the same time, they arrive 3 hours later. Originally, Dmom & Ddad were just going to hang out and wait at the airport, but my brother called to say that we would need my minivan for the luggage (yikes!). They have a 7 year old and a 7 mo. old and my DSIL does not understand the concept of "travel light".

Oh and did I mention that in the middle of all this, yesterday my washer decides it doesn't want to drain? Repair guy coming out tomorrow morning. Hopefully it is a quick fix or I am in big trouble! :laundy:

TUESDAY
Food:
b - wholewheat toast w/ pb, 12 oz skim milk
s - 3 bites funnel cake
l - 6 oz FF lemon yogurt, 6 mini donuts
s - 1/2c FF cottage cheese, 100 cal pack cookie crisps
6p - chips & salsa, 1/2 beer
6:30p - chicken breast, 1/2c broccoli, 1/2c rice

Water: 100 oz (barely - didn't drink a lot at the fair since potty choices were not the best!)

Exercise: walked around the fair for 4.5 hours, so I am taking that as at least 60 minutes of good exercise.

WEDNESDAY
Food - I honestly don't remember what I have had to eat today :confused3 I know I skipped breakfast, DD3 fed me 3 small big bird crackers during promotion, and I had 1 donut hole at the reception afterward. Somewhere I had a slice of cheese and a yogurt? At Benihana I had the chicken & steak combo - finished the chicken and a couple of bites of steak - two bites of ice cream.

Water: I WILL finish 100 oz! I have about 15 oz's to go but still two hours before I have a prayer of going to bed.

Exercise: does stress count?

Anna

editted: so apparently it didn't post when I left for the airport! At least it didn't disappear. Nite all!

Tracy, Thanks for the encouragement. I need it right now. I'm not slipping up once in awhile though, more like once every single day. :rotfl2:

Amy, the fat # was scary. It was the mayo and sour cream in the potato salad and the spinach dip that really did me in. Of course, the regular hot dog, pancakes, bacon and cake helped too! :rotfl2: I'm still not eating what I should, but at least the qty is down. No time to eat much of anything yesterday.

Tracey, I need to eat lots more lettuce and stop putting all sorts of other stuff on top of the lettuce. :rotfl:

Marie, I don't generally mind the houseguests (my family, not his!) and yes, the pool and the drinks definitely help - the pool to entertain everyone else, the drinks to keep me sane! :crazy: I think I might actually get a walk in today, we'll see.

Jane, Oh no! No PTA president job for me - much too much work!!! :rotfl: It will be a fun summer, but not quite the relax/veg one I had envisioned when we intially decided to not take a big vacation and stay home.

Thanks everyone for stopping by. I'm gonna try and read a few journals now before anyone else wakes up. :rolleyes1

Yikes, you are going to need a vacation after all your visitors are gone! You did remarkably well at the fair, yay for bringing yogurt!

You are doing great keeping your portions in check. That will help you more than you realize! I hope you are able to get some walking in while everyone is visiting!

Hang in there, it'll calm down soon!

Glad school's finally over!!! You must be relieved. YOur posts are wearing me out just reading them. You are super busy. Have fun with your brothers' family's visit. Guess you'll be needing more margaritas by the pool.

A reasonably calm day finally. Took DD3 for her 3 year old check up first thing this morning. Kid is a peanut - 3% for weight - and that is an increase from before when she wasn't even on the chart! Otherwise she is great! When I got home from Dr's I got the news that my 3yr old washer needs a new drain pump :furious: At least the guy had one on his truck and I can do laundry again! :laundy: Played with my niece (7 mos) and nephew (almost 7 yrs) and ran a couple of errands (sometimes I need to run away and be by myself for a little bit! :blush: ) Dmom & Ddad took my older two for the afternoon and to dinner. DSIL brought many yummies from Hawaii (they live there! :sunny: ) so the temptations are plentiful - 1/4c of macadamia nuts has 21 fat grams! :scared1: The semi good news is the scale is holding steady at 170 so far and my pants are sort of loose today.

Food:
7:30a - 6 oz FF yogurt
10:30a - 3/4c fruit (cantaloupe, blueberries, grapes), 12oz skim milk
1:30p - (leftover Benihana) 1/4c chicken, 1/2c steak, 1/2c zucchini & onions, 3 bites pineapple upside down cake
4p - 1/4c honey roasted macadamia nuts, 1 chocolate toffee macadamia nut
7:15p - 3/4c wokked teriyaki chicken w/ broccoli & green onions, 2/3c rice, 1 mai tai
Resisted: lots more mac nuts, wasabi peanuts
Totals: Cal - 1837, Fat: 46g, Carb: 217g, Fiber: 8g, Protein: 93g

Water - 104 oz

Exercise - none again!!!

Amy, portion control is the only thing I have right now even if it is not great food. I keep thinking I'll walk in the evening with DSIL or Ddad or even DH, but it just isn't happening. I think tomorrow morning I am going to just go ahead and walk by myself first thing in the morning before anyone gets up. I have got to walk or I have no prayer of making the exercise challenge this month!

Jane, today we switched to Mai Tai's - Dbro lives in hawaii so we needed a new drink :rotfl2:

Hi Anna,

So, how is everything going with your houseguests? it sounds like you are busy, but having a good time. I think that is great that you are maintaining your weight. :thumbsup2 I bet once everything settles down and you are back into a routine, the scale will be ready to cooperate! ::yes::

Hope you have a great weekend! :sunny:

That is awesome that you are maintaining your weight! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Did you get your walk in this morning?

I love Mai Tai's. Who am I kidding, I love any drink that could have an umbrella in it... :rolleyes:

Me and macadamia nuts don't play well together. I had to stop making my beloved macadamia crusted mahi mahi because I couldn't control myself with the leftover macadamia nuts! That is great that you only ate a regular human amount of them and resisted overindulging! :banana:

Sounds like you are having a blast! party:

I've never had a mai tai. They sound so good but I've never been brave enough to order one. In college I remember a friend going out for mai tais one night and the mai tais won.

Have a great weekend!

Did sort of ok yesterday until the evening. Major food fest started with hummus & pita, wasabi peanuts, 2 mai tai's, then dinner was ok except for the 2 glasses of wine. After dinner we played in the pool & spa and had another major smorgsbord: more wasabi peanuts, chocolate toffee macadamia nuts, TJ's peanut butter cups - and all this is after 9pm at night - ugh!

Food:
8:30a - 1c GoLean cereal, 12 oz skim milk
10a - 1/4c honey roasted mac nuts, 1c watermelon
12:30p - slice sourdough bread, slice cheddar cheese, 1/2 dill pickle, 1 chocolate toffee mac nut
4:30p - too much hummus and pita, handful of wasabi peanuts, 2 mai tai's
6:00p - large serving asparagus, 1/2c tomato & mozzarella w/ basil, 2 glasses wine (the family was having salmon - I don't do fish!)
9:30p - more wasabi peanuts, chocolate toffee macadamia nuts, TJ's peanut butter cups
Resisted - nothing! Totals: 10,000???

Water: +130oz (the only good thing I did was keep drinking water between "other" drinks!)

Exercise: none - I actually slept in for the first time in I don't know how long.

Tracy, thanks for stopping by my journal. I really am having a wonderful visit with my family, but I am going to need to do some damage control after everyone leaves.

Amy, I am definitely an "umbrella" drink girl :rotfl2: and my SIL makes an awesome mai tai! I have been using the measuring spoon on the mac nuts, but after the drinks & wine, I did not behave well. :sad2: We are having a great time though.

Jane, never had a mai tai? If you like juices & rums you definitely need to have one! They are yummy. My DSIL's recipe is actually not as sweet as most, but really good. We've been making them by the pitcher. :bitelip:

Scott, thanks for stopping by. We are having a good time. I don't know why my weight is staying, but I'll take it. :confused3

Thats my kind of food fest!!!! You're having way too much fun for one summer. I don't think I could have resisted choc toffee macadamia nuts either!

I am exactly like you! Once the cocktails start flowing, any sense of responsible eating magically disappears...

Just enjoy yourself and don't worry about it. If you put on a couple lbs while your family is there, OH WELL. You know when they leave you will get back into your exercise routine and eating right. This is just a little blip on the weight loss radar screen and you can get past it!

Sounds like you are having a fabulous time! :banana: :cool1: :yay:

Anna, enjoy your family and your Mai Tai's! Of course this coming from a self admitted Mai Tai addict! Seriously, having fun with the ones you love is never a bad thing, you can get right back on track once things settle down! Thanks for all your support and have fun!

Sorry to be MIA for so long. I got the stomach flu saturday night. :sick: and it was not pretty. I was completely out of it all day sunday and it wasn't until about 7pm monday night that I was even able to think about eating anything more than chicken broth and toast (moved up to crackers and a slice of turkey!) Even though Dbro's family was "all better" when they arrived here last week, somebody was still a carrier 'cause he said this was exactly what they had. I haven't tracked the little I've eaten, no exercise, and even drinking lots of water still doesn't sound good, but WI this morning was 168. :crazy: (the silver lining!)

Houseguest situation is calmer. Dmom & Ddad left Sunday midmorning (very vague memories of them leaving.), Dbro's family went to the zoo all day yesterday and I just let the kids watch TV, etc while I took it easy and washed down everything I could with chlorox - don't want anyone else to get this nasty thing! Dbro left early this morning. DSIL and kids are staying until next week though. DH took DD10 to the fair today, but the rest of us opted for a stay at home, hang out day. Still want to go to SeaWorld, but probably not until later in the week.

I think I am done with the mai tai's and mac nuts for awhile. Plain and bland are definitely the only things that sound appealing right now. DH wants to go out tomorrow night to celebrate his new job. Hopefully, I can find something that sounds appealing.

Sorry to hear you were under the weather. Are you sure it wasn't the Mai Tai Macadamia Nut Flu? :lmao: At least no one else got sick...

Congrats on DH's new job. I hope you are feeling well enough to celebrate at least a little bit! :wizard: I did 3 straight days of celebrating my new job... :blush:

Sounds like things are calming down - you'll be back into your routine soon! :banana:

Are you sure it wasn't the Mai Tai Macadamia Nut Flu? :lmao:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That actually was my initial thought except that I only had 1 mai tai that night and then I just kept being sick for close to 24 hours. :sad2: Dbro said that it had been exactly the same for him the week before. The good news is he bounced back pretty quickly afterward. Food is actually starting to sound a bit interesting this afternoon so hopefully, I'll be feeling much better tomorrow. DSIL will watch the kids (all 5!) if DH and I go out for a celebration dinner. That alone is pretty good incentive to try and get better. :)
