Hi everyone,

Just wondered whether there was anyone out there that suffers with IBS and anxiety and has tried hypnotherapy and whether it worked or not? Or could suggest anything else? :confused3

THANX in advance,

I suffer from IBS and anxiety quite badly. It's even knocked my out for entire mornings on holiday at WDW - grrrrrr! The anxiety is a major trigger for the IBS. I did find that certain foods tended to trigger it, I can't eat much chicken any more for example. Try and eat lots of fibre and watch your fizzy drink intake, I've found that can help immensely. Oh, and getting bloated is bad for me (awful at WDW as I'm terrible for eating waaaay too much!!!) If my IBS does rear its head I take pills from Boots, they're only available behind the counter so talk to your pharmacist.

As for the anxiety, I'm trying to reduce it by doing things like reading books about my fears (flying is a bad one) and just trying to keep busy. It's really beginning to come under control now which is amazing as I;'e suffered from anxiety an depression since the age of 11!

I've never heard of hypnotherapy as a cure, do you have anymore details?

I've not found any trigger foods. I've had IBS for about a year although I've always been a worrier. Even if I feel okay I'm worrying about how long it'll be before I get stomach ache again! I also find it difficult to keep busy because if I'm out, I'm constantly worrying about my IBS coming on!

I think with hypnotherapy they teach you relaxation techniques. Just had a quote. Apparently you need three sessions totalling £140. Which I guess is worth it if it works. I'll let you know if I go!
