Interested the kind of success everyone has had booking the 'hottest' properties at 7 mos. out RECENTLY... for the non-hottest times (not talking about Xmas or Spring Break).
Thanks for your input :)

Don't know if this is in the recent category but we stayed at BCV studio 2/26-3/2 with a booking about 5 months out (10/4). I called on 3/3 for a 2bdrm BCV 8/27-9/1 and got it. Granted, we are not traveling at peak times. At the 7 month window, everything had been available for 8/20-8/1 except for BWV standards.

We just returned for a BWV std view studio after 6 nights from April 6-13th. I booked it about 5-6 months ago. I have stayed at BWV (not a home resort) 6 times over the last 4 years and always in a std view studio or std view 1 BR. So yes, you can get in, I did have to wait list for several trips.

I was able to book a 1 bedroom standard view at 7 months a couple of years ago.
In late January of this year, I was able to book a studio at BCV for a Thursday night a week ahead (Feb 2).
booked a 1 bedroom Oct 15-21 without a problem
Could of gotten a 1 bedroom May 26-29th but opted for SSR instead for our 1st trip as members

We booked BCV for this coming July about a month ago. That's only about 4 months ahead.

This is my second year in a row where I was lucky enough to get a 2 bedroom BCV during F&W at 7 months out. Last year was for Nov 5 thru Nov 12 and this year we're taking advantage of our APs and going Oct 28 through Nov 6. :sunny:

We have been members since 2001, and have always been able to get a room at the BWV or BCV. We have booked every trip at the 7 month window (or less, in some cases). We typically travel in summer, although last year we went in April (and July, hehe). We have had to "do" waitlist a few times, but it has always worked out. There was one time when we could not get a specific villa at the BCV, so we "settled" for the BWV! :sunny:

I've gotten BWV 2 times in Oct once in 2003 standard studio for 2 nights at 1 month out and in 2005 1 bedroom standard 5 nights at 7 months out. This year at exactly 7 mons out I couldn't so I waitlisted for a standard studio for 5 nights I hope I get it but I'll stay at OKW otherwise. We love food and wine festival can't wait.

I just booked 10 nights at the BCV last week for September - I called back and changed it to 5 nights VWL and 5 BCV, but when I asked about availabilities for an additional night at BCV I was told "no problem - I see 30+ units still available."
I should also add that all 5 properties were available (BWV too) and this is about 4 1/2 months out.
Last year I also booked BCV for a week in May in January and again, all were available when I called so we had our choice.
Our experience? It's very possible.

At the 7 month window we were able to book day by day for the Beach club for late June of this year. At that point is was filing up fast. With more members it will get harder to book at the 7 month window.

End of March I was able to book a 2 bedroom preferred (waitlisted for Boardwalk view) at the BWV in early August. I was surprised, I could have had anything I wanted...and that was before free dining was announced and everyone moved their ressies. I passed originally on Boardwalk View then spoke to my son and he said he'd like to try it, so I'm waitlisted for that now...but otherwise, a little over 4 months out I had quite a choice of locations...

I was able to book a 1BR standard view at BWV at the 7 month mark for the first week of February this year. I think it all depends on the time of year. For my April 2005 trip (during Flower and Garden time at EPCOT), there were no studios or 1BRs available at either BWV or BCV, so I got OKW - which I loved, by the way.

...I had to waitlist BCV for Marathon weekend (Jan), but it came through. The original ressie was made about 3 months prior.
I was able to get BWV BW view for the end of Jan (as it turned out, the same weekend they had the expedition Everest preview :thumbsup2 ) at the 7month window (the SV's were completely booked at the 7 month point).

Just booked for last week of F&W at BWV's at the seven month window. Went day by day and got the first four days. The rest went on the waitlist on the Monday and within three days, I only need one more day to fill out the week. It was for a studio. Similar experience last year. That time split the stay between the BWV's and BCV's. Waitlists do work. This year it is nicer because you can check through the website to see that your days have come in. Previously had to call or wait for snailmail.

I have stayed at the BW 3 times in the last 6 years, all using the 7 month window as I am an OKW owner. All but one of those trips were in a 2 bedroom in the summer months. Last summer, I booked a 2 bedroom at BCV at the 7 month window, no problem.

Booked a dedicated 2 Queen 2 BR Villa at BCV for Aug 20-27 of this year, at exactly 7 months out, calling day by day. Not sure if I had to do day by day, but the 2 queens are even harder to come by so I wasn't taking any chances. The CM told me it was a good idea to call day by day.

I was able to get a Standard View Studio at BWV for this past March 26 to March 31. I called day-by-day right at the 7-month window and had to waitlist for 2 nights, but those came available within a couple of days.

I was convinced that we should buy BCV if that's where we'd most ideally like to stay... but now your responses have me questioning that. Now I'm thinking it makes more sense to buy SSR and trade out, since we generally won't be travelling at the holiday periods/school breaks (at least not for the next 6 years at least!).
So what do you think.... should we buy SSR???
Help--I'm so confused!!! :confused3

Help--I'm so confused!!! :confused3The problem is that most of the people responding to this thread are the ones who were successful. You need to know the other side of the story: how many people tried to book and were not successful. If 10% succeed in booking BCV 7 months out and 90% do not, that would be very significant. On the other hand if 90% of those who try are successful, then no problem. I have no idea what the actual percentages are but based on this thread you might conclude that booking BCV is rarely a problem and I don't believe that is the case. I think you need to start a thread "Who could NOT get BCV at 7 months out" and ask for the dates (including the year so you know how recent the info is).
Also SSR is not yet fully built. As the number of DVC owners increases and there is no resort to rival BCV's popularity, competition for BCV will likely increase as well. So the "buy where you want to stay" philosophy is based partly on what people expect will happen in the near future as DVC continues to grow.
There is one other aspect to "buy where you want to stay" and that is the ability to plan your trips far in advance. I like that I can book my stay at 11 months out, jump on cheap airfare, book my ADRs 180 days out and I'm done. Adding in the additional step of moving my reservation at 7 months to another resort, possibly going on a wait list for some of the days, deciding whether to wait list "day by day" to improve my chances of getting in but risking not getting all days and having to move between resorts during my stay... no thanks! But then again that bothers some of us more than others so you have to decide what your vacation planning stress tolerance level is.
Good luck with your decision!

Well, we booked it long ago, but we'll be in a studio at BCV for June 10th, it's a special day for us, and I wanted SAB and easy in/out of the Flower Show to get to the Flower Power Concert that night.

Jenntish,
The other thing you need to consider is how much anxiety will it cause you being uncertain of getting the resort you really want.
Base on the fact that you have posted a couple of similiar posts I'm assuming you will be anxious waiting to see if you can get into certain resorts. In my opinion spend the extra bucks and buy where your heart tells you. If, on the other hand you truly do not care what resort you stay in, buy the cheapest and be done with it.
Personally I would hate worrying if I was going to get into my desired resort... that's not fun. This is a long term commitment and for the money you're spending you should get what you want.

Help--I'm so confused!!! :confused3Holiday periods/school breaks are not necessarily the most difficult to book. SChool breaks differe across the DVC membership
When (what months) exactly will you be traveling? As an example, if it's anytime during October - December, you could very well have a problem agetting into BCV. The first 10 -12 days of November are hard - that time includes the NJ teachers' convention, election day and Veterans Day. All of the onsite resorts tends to book up for that period. On the other hand, if you plan to travel in January, the first half of February, May or September, you will seldom have a problem getting into any of the DVC resorts. If you call at 7 months, you will probably be able to get a summertime vacation at least 50% of the time - especially if your dates are flexible and you are willing to use the waitlist.
This is a fairly big decision. If you are truly torn, you might want to try an experiment for your next trip or two. Try to rent points for the BCV at the 7 month window for the time you want to go. See if you can. Whether you are are successful or not, you'll have your own experience to help make your decision.
In the end, it's going to come down to emotion - will you be OK if you don't always get to stay at BCV when you want to vacation? CAn you tolerate the uncertainty of the waitlist process? Will you have a rotten time if you get "stuck" at your home resort? You are the only one who can decide.
Best wishes -
crisi

I think the last two posts are where I fall.
I have a lot of stress in my life, and I can stress about stupid things....like whether I'll get "stuck" at SSR (a resort that has no appeal to me - I'm sure its a lovely resort, just not for me). Its worth more in dues and more upfront to know I will have a booking advantage at a resort I do want to stay at.
If I could only book seven months out, it wouldn't make any difference. But we generally plan well over a year in advance.
Every few weeks someone posts with the same sort of questions as you. Probably about 70% of them decide they will buy where they want to stay. The rest take their chances. Each of those people who are taking their chance of getting BCV (and its overwhelmingly BCV they are interested in) is another person who will be competing with you at seven months.

I agree with what some of the others have said. It may depend on what size unit you are looking to book. We've been on a wait list for early June since early Feb (for a 2 bedroom), with no luck thus far. We thought we might get lucky at 4 months out, but so far - no dice. We are booked at OKW, which we love - and can't wait to try out the new slide, but are still holding out some hope that it (BCV 2 bedroom) will come thru closer to the 30 day mark. I would say, if you are trying for a 2 bedroom (from our experience) at 4 months out, you may not have success. We're checking in on 6/4.
Happy Vacationing!

I called MS today to check on availability of 2/bdrm for 11/26 - 12/3...BWV has nothing, BCV and VWL had very limited availability and only lockoffs...no dedicated. I booked at VWL (my home) so it appears doubtful that any 2/bdrms will be available at 7 months for any of these resorts.
...and to make matters worse, none of these resorts had any 2/bdrm availability for the following week (12/4 - 12/11).
