Hi--I usually run..but I'm hoping to be preggers soon--so I thought about it and I may just train to walk. Ever since my knee surgery--the pace limits for those events is totally attainable. I coudl run just fine-but until they removed the tear I didn't know it affected my walking---surgery alone shaved 2 minutes off of my walking pace.

anyway---I easily get a sub 17:00 with no training (short distance)--so I know I could pull it off for a longer distance with effort and training.

I'm going to take a look at MFM.

But if you have any advice for endurance walking, I'd appreciate it. I will be walking fast enough to maintain a consistent pace and avoid the sweeper. My goal is an on-time finish and an inaugural medal.

This will be for the DL half. I will be placed in the highest corral where proof is not necessary b/c at the time of registration, I had proof of time for a run and placed myself accordingly.

i guess i'm :confused3 on what you are asking? being a runner seasoned in endurance/long distance events you already know the hard stuff, mentally is what i think it the hardest. maybe accepting/relaxing in your mindset that this will take you longer? if you are like me you compete with yourself, always shooting to improve and the longer time may feel like a step backward? i don't mean that sarcastically, i would have a hard time purposely pacing myself slower

if you are going to follow MFM walk 1/2 marathon program there isn't much else i can think of off hand. I use GU packs after the 4th and 8th mile on walks longer than 6-7 miles. Good music on the ipod :rolleyes1 even better get some paced/beat music for the appropriate speed you are shooting for to help settle into that beat.

you may want to train with a fanny pack some so you are used to one to carry around your disposable camera :thumbsup2 that's a benefit of being slower for sure :smokin:

Ipod may be a good idea--would be easier to keep tempo with the legs.

With running--I can do my own tempo. With walking--I forget I am supposed to be going somewhere "quickly".

Good luck in your efforts. I think if you get into the technique of race walking that maybe it would kick up your pace some. There is a Web site that might offer some tips/technique. I don't know if I can adapt myself to that "roll" that you need to develop, I tried and can't get it.

Good luck and let me know if you get it figured.

You should have a great authority in your family. :) He proved to have a wealth of info that I was intrigued in hearing when we shared dinner at TE in Jan.

I know--not interested in race walking though. Not ready for the hip action just yet. And not to keen on him coaching me. You know--very valuable informationg--but then when you turn it into a parent coaching the child situation...not so fun. ;)
