Hi, I am currently looking to upgrade to a new camera. I have a Nikon Coolpix that is about 4 years old. Am very interested in the canon powershot. I like everything about the A620 but I also like the 12x zoom on the S2IS. Which would you go for?? I currently have only 2 Megapixels on my Nikon so the 5.0 pixels on the canon S2IS looks good. The A620 has more pixels at 7, but less zoom only 4x. Which is more important pixels or zoom??? Indoor pictures at low lighting is also a concern. Im so confused. Help me!!!!!................................please. :)

I love my S2IS, and especially the zoom! I don't know anything about the 620, but one of the things that drew me to the S2IS was the zoom.

S2 IS. The Zoom and the IS capability is just plain great.

Thanks! By the time I read these responses, we had already bought the S2! Got it last night. It came down to the optical zoom for me and DH. DH also likes the fact that it feels like a camera when he holds it...he always hated the little dainty ones. I have enjoyed playing with it and was trying to figure out the color select mode. Can I make everything black and white but say...a persons read shirt? Everytime I tried, it kept coming out on the viewfinder as all color. Oh well, we love this camera. Got a 1gig memory card and also, got the Selphy DS810 photo printer with the built in viewscreen. Haven't tried that yet. Any suggestionsa greatly appreciated and can't wait to use this camera a WDW in July! :)

You can do that through the photo editing software (paint shop, photo elements, etc...)

Check out the Selective Coloring thread...that's where I learned how to do it.

Sorry, that should have said "red" shirt. :) I actually found it on the color accent mode. Was able to make everything black and white but the red. Love it. :thumbsup2 Will also look into color programs...thanks!

Mu husband and I are researching digital cameras and have looked at both the A620 and the S2 IS. We are very confused. What is IS? We have also looked at the Canon A700.

IS = Image Stabilizer. It allows you to counteract the vibration of your camera up to 3 stops. So basically if you can hold the camera steady for 1/60 sec, with IS you'll easily get the same stability at 1/15 sec.
