View Full Version : Counter service: How can you postpone the purchase of your dessert?

I've read that you can get a voucher or a stamp on your receipt indicating that you haven't yet picked up your counter service dessert that's included with your meal. How exactly does this work? Is it a voucher or a stamp? Can you wait until later in the day, or perhaps another day, to go back and redeem it? Is it only when you're ordering ice cream? Can it be done at any CS place?

TIA!!

I didn't know this might be possible, so what I was planning to do was to take giant ziploc bags with me to the parks, and just put the dessert in a ziploc bag for later. Of course, this wouldn't really work for ice cream. If anyone knows of a way to get CS dessert later, I'd appreciate it. That way I might be able to get some ice cream.

I haven't heard about people getting their CS desserts later. I've seen posts where people got some sort of voucher to eat their TS dessert later, but I don't recall the details.

I wouldn't recomment ziploc bags for most of the desserts at disney...you'd have a pile of mush within 30 minutes.

Some of the CS restaurants have Mickey Crispy treats or big cookies as desserts...they are a bit more portable. Personally, I prefer the non-portable desserts, like the Key Lime Pie, Cheesecake, etc.

I remember reading something on another post about getting a voucher/ticket for the dessert and being able to go back later to get it. I just don't remember what post it was on. :confused3 It was in a response to another question, that is about all I remember. Sorry, I don't have any other information.

I was also planning, like Simba's mom, to take either a ziploc baggie or container with me (in my back pack) and use it for cookies or rice krispie treats to save for later.

Someone jump in if I'm wrong but I think you could do that with the AK food vouches which have been discontinued. I haven't read anywhere of doing this & honestly if you had to return to the same CS, I wouldn't bother.

Typhoon Lagoon gave out a token at the CS restaurant that's used to get your ice cream dessert later. Makes sense, otherwise your dessert would be melted before you were ready to eat it.

I never thought to ask if other CS restaurants would do the same thing.

the food court at POFQ allowed us to come back for our dessert... the cashier just wrote something on our receipt and then crossed it off/initialed it once we claimed the dessert... but we never tried to go back a different day/much later in the day... we did it so our giant cookie ice cream sandwiches would not melt!

Okay, I found some of the info! Check out the posts from DISNEYFAMILYOFFOUR on the following thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=931511&referrerid=7394

She definitely was able to do it at TL and BB and seems to think she did it elsewhere.

Anyone else able to do this or have any more info?

We did the free dining last year and actually did this at Sunshine Seasons in the Land at Epcot. We ordered ice cream cones for the kids when we checked out and it was marked on our receipt. When they were done eating we went up and got their cones, went back throught the line with the receipt and they circled it showing that we got it.

We did this at POR foodcourt for lunch also. I don't believe it's something you could really wait and come back hours or days later, but they did allow it for ice cream because you need to order it when you get your lunch but of course can't eat it in time before it's soup. You do have to tell them when you are checking out exactly what dessert you are getting.

So it sound like, in the few places willing to do it, you have to get the dessert from the eatery you got the rest of your meal from. Water parks and some resorts, so far. jjohnson should update the FAQ with this info.

Just saw your PM which led me here. I will check my receipts when I get home from work later. I do remember that besides TL & BB (where we were given tokens), if you told them you wanted to come back for dessert, when you went back, they ripped your receipt. I will ask my husband what he remembers. We most definitely did it at MK since I remember walking back through FL without my family.

We are definitely going to be asking to do this again in the fall. Remember, you have to tell them at the register at ordering.

Do you remember if you did this for other dessert items? or just when you ordered ice cream.

Bicker- I'll update the FAQ soon I just want to get a few more details.

Thank you JJohnson!! Thank you DISNEYFAMILYOFFOUR!! Thank you gigi1313!! Thanks kizmac!! I knew that I read this was possible!

I like dessert but I can't eat it right after my meal. I like to wait 1-2 hours.

JJohnson - I know you said you wouldn't bother if you had to return to the same CS, but we're going to be there for over two weeks so we'll see everything as many times as we want to and my kids are older so they don't mind walking. We've been many times before so we know where everything is and don't have to look at a map to find our way back to the CS. Also, I don't use a stroller anymore and I don't feel like lugging desserts around in 90 degree heat, so it would be really worth it to us. I know we could just use snack credits for ice cream later, but if we have the choice of returning to a CS for different desserts, I'd like to do that. Sure it's not always going to work out, but I really like having that option. Even if it just winds up being ice cream that we can come back for, that saves our snack credits for other things, like water, which I think we're really going to need in September!!

Can't wait to see what else DISNEYFAMILYOFFOUR has to say!

I was wondering about this also. We love ice cream and I know my kids will want to get ice cream in some form as often as possible. In August and Sept that just won't work to get it at the same time as the meal!

Maybe the weather will be slightly better for our May trip but you couldn't pay my kids to cross the park midday in August - even for ice cream! Mine are older too 12,10,9 but after lunch we're out of the parks until after dinner.
I'm going to try it at one of the counter services anyway. I have a couple of other items to "research" so I'm adding this one too.

I asked if I could use my token, from TL, to get my ice cream dessert at one of the snack carts later in the day. The CM wasn't sure and I didn't want to wait for the CM to check with a supervisor. I didn't get an automatic no so it's possible.

WE got smiley face stamps on our reciept at All-Star Movies in July and you could pick up your dessert up until midnight that night. At MGM(ABC Comm) we were given a second receipt to pick up our dessert same day before they closed. Didn't ask anywhere else but these places seemed like they did this all the time so I'm sure you could do this just about anywhere. These were also only for Ice Cream regular desserts we either ate there or took with us in a to-go container.

We did that at POP, just ordered the dessert as we checked out, then went to stand in the humongous ice cream line after we ate.

Thank you. What were you able to order from the ice cream area? Do you just tell the cashier when you pay? Did they mark your receipt? Thanks again.

Also got the smiley stamp at Movies to go back and get 5 deserts after eating our meal. We had some counter service credits to use on our last night, so zipped over to the A/S Movies (my favorite food court) and the CM told us what to do about the deserts. I think the CMs at the Value resorts pretty much have this process under control, especially during the free dining plan last year. I think everyone staying at a value was pretty much getting the free dining.

Sorry it took so long to get back here. I doubled checked my husband's memory on this issue. \

As I stated before, we definitely did it at both BB and TL. At both places, we were given coins and we were allowed to use them for ice cream at an ice cream cart at the park. We did not have to go back to the CS which gave them to us.

At MK we had lunch in FrontierLand and that is where I went back to later to get ice cream. It really was not a big deal to go back because we were spending alot of time between splash mountain and thunder mountain.

At MGM, we just went back and ate our dessert there. It was a nice to take a break in the AC. It was at the ABC comm.

We will definitely be doing this again this next trip. For us, even if you had to go back, it really was not a big deal.

Have great trips everyone and post back what happened.

I just wanted to remind everyone that it was not something that was offered. You had to mention it to the cashier when ordering.

I am so glad I stumbled onto this board...I would have never thought of this on my own, and since we have the DP - many CS dessert part of our meals would have been lost, since we would have thought the ice cream would have melted (or too full)! Also since there will be 6 of us in our party...and if we all get receipts for dessert later, it can be a few snacks for the little ones. I will definately inquire and ask when we get CS.

Thanks

I just wanted to remind everyone that it was not something that was offered. You had to mention it to the cashier when ordering.Good advice. Also, keep in mind that this is not part of the dining plan program -- it is something some of the eateries are doing as a favor to some of their guests. I'm sure some of the eateries will continue to do this until word gets out on the Internet about it -- OOPS!

:rotfl:

Seriously, this is something that as soon as word gets out about it and there starts being more people coming back for dessert than they can legitimately track with little tears in receipts, they'll either have to have a more formal mechanism for it or they'll have to no longer offer it.

Actually TL offered it to me. They have the tokens ready to give out. The system in place seemed to be to give everyone tokens. I would have had to asked to get my ice cream with my CS meal.
