I recently read that the Breakfast and Beyond character meal at MGM featuring toy story and other PIXAR characters was scratched, at least for now, due to conflict with Pixar??? Doesn't Disney own Pixar..YES!!! So doesn't Dsney have the rights to the characters from the pixar/disney films? What am I missing?

I believe Disney is aquiring Pixar next month - they don't own them yet.

The rumor is that Lasseter and Catmull were concerned about the way the characters would be used (or depicted) in the character meal. My guess is that when it comes to Pixar characters, they will want to have creative control. And, given their positions, they can pretty much do that.

To bad the deal didn't come last year before "Bambi II," and "The Wild"

Disney always owned the character rights to the Pixar characters. Disney could do whatever they wanted with the characters, whether the creative leaders at Pixar liked it or not.
Now, as part of the Disney's acquisition of Pixar, those Pixar creative leaders have more control over the Pixar characters. Even though the legal work to finalize the acquisition is not yet complete, Disney and Pixar are already living by the new relationship.
