After reading the thread regarding baggage getting stolen at the Orlando airport in the SWA area .... I called customer service at SWA. I told the agent what I had read on the boards and voiced my concern over the fact that the SWA Customer Service person at the airport indicated that they knew about it ... and it didn't seem or appear that they were doing anything about it. She said she had not heard of this but would file a report and have it looked into. She seemed genuinely interested in finding out what I knew. Hopefully this will cause something to happen. Here in Phoenix at Sky Harbor they check the bags and match to your claim check. They are really strict about it.
Has anyone been in the SWA area lately picking up baggage? I'm curious if they are checking tags or have tightened security. I just called today so it wouldn't be because of my call. I just know others had complained in the past.

On the flight home they had roped off the baggage area and checked everyone leaving with their baggage against their claim checks...went very smoothly...Marianne :earsgirl:

dcedwards, thanks for placing the call on our behalf. It's not really something you think is a concern, until, of course , it happens to YOU. Thanks for taking the initiative, and hopefully it will help to prevent future problems for all of us.:)

Thank you for making that call for all of us SWA flyers. After reading the post about stolen luggage I was trying to figure out how we could get to luggage claim the fastest. Hopefully, they will still be checking bags against claim checks as bunnymkc said they were doing.

I've been in management for so many years, I know that sometimes they don't hear what they need to hear ... so that is why I called. Thanks to all of you for the pats on the back. I hope that they continue to check the claim tickets. I know last year that they weren't doing it and I would have never thought about someone purposely stealing my luggage. Guess I was a little naive...then...not now. I'm sure that is true for many of us.
If anyone else has been there would like to hear if they are still checking tags. Thanks Marianne for the update. That was good to hear.

I have never had my bags checked at any airport other than Atlanta. As much as it surprised me at the time, I thought it was a great idea.
