It's time to start planning the next Chicago Area DIS Meet!! :cool1:


Da What: Disney/Pixar 'Cars' Movie Meet & Lunch/late Lunch

Da Where: AMC Yorktown Theatre/Yorktown Shopping Center, 80 Yorktown Shopping Center, Lombard IL 60148
Accesible from I-88 (East-West Tollway) which is very accesible from I-294 & I-355.

Da When: Late June/Early July
You gotta vote to help pick a date!!!

Da Food: Depending on the size of the crowd:
1) We can eat at the food court in Yorktown Mall which is
across the street from the theatre.
2) We can eat at a sit down restaurant in
the Mall. (I've already contacted a few places that can
accomodate us, depending on the # of people.)

Food court of course would allow for more space to socialize and greater food selection.

Okay, I think I'm in. I hate planning so far ahead because "life happens", but so far I'm pretty sure I can make it. However, I am hoping this is going to be a later-ish afternoon type thing? If it's very early like 11:00 to noon, I'm not sure I can make it as my daughter has soccer games in the morning on Saturday.

Oh and by late June, I'll have my Disneyland pictures all developed and ready to show! :banana:

I like White Barn, as well as Yankee. They do not have the varied selection of
scents as Yankee does, but several ones they do have I like. So if forced I could buy candles there just as easily! ;)

Thanks, KimRaye for sending me a PM about this one. :wave: I'm pretty sure that Mark and I will be able to make it to this, and so far, any one of those dates is okay. But, like someone said "life happens", so I can't set anything in stone!

As far as the food court, though, I remember when we did a food court meet at Stratford, and the security folks were not very happy with us, so if we did the food court, we might need to get an approval from the mall first??

I just wanted to inform everyone about one of the restaurants I spoke with.

After letting them know approx # of people attending, they stated that in order to use their party room (which we would have to because of the size of our group) that they would want us to purchase one of their party packages.
I don't think that many people will like this idea, but I will describe what this would include.
First off, I'm referring to Ed Debevic's.
There are basically 2 party packages:
#1- Appetizer, choice of entree and dessert for $17.95 p/p
#2- Specific sandwich selection and sundae for dessert for $12.95 p/p
Children would be $8.95.
Time would also be limited in their party room, from 1 1/2 hour (pack. #1) to 1 hr. (pack. #2).


I don't see this as a good option for all involved. And I can see how time could be a problem as well. IMO.
But I thought I'd report on what I found out.


I also have a call into the Yorktown Mall manager to discuss if they would have issues with us meeting in the food court.

The food court is pretty good. There's a McDonald's, an Arby's, a Cinnabon, a generic Mexican place. I think there's a Panda Express, or at least something similar. I think there's a Pegasus Express now. And a Sbarro's.

There's a Disney store below the food court. And there's a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and a Fannie May's (elsewhere in the mall). :thumbsup2

We will meet at the AMC Yorktown theatre to see 'Cars' and then head across the street to the mall to eat in the food court.

When movie times are released I will then organize a time to meet.

Everyone please check the Yorktown link on the first post for directions and food court info.

I will suggest that when the time comes, that everyone buy your tickets for the movie in advance online!!! We have done this in the past to assure that everyone will have a ticket.

I just saw this post and unfortunately I won't be able to make nor will Britt, I have no clue about Mike as he's already out of the house this morning. That day/evening/night is our local Relay for Life and we are walking with our Jazzercise team and I'm on the steering committee so I have to be there early in the day to help set up. We won't set a final time to meet until the movie times are released. My family is going to arrive as early as possible in order to save seats/block off rows :teeth:, another reason why I need a head count. I'm hoping I can come, but I'm not positive. That day is the day I've got an ice show to go to at the United Center. I'm definitely going to that (my little skater is in it!), but there are two shows, 2pm and 8pm. Normally I'd go to the 2pm show, but if I go to the 8pm show then I should be able to make the meet. That might work out better for my mom, too. So hopefully I'll be able to make it, but I'm still not definite. If I come, it will only be me. Yorktown is really close to me, so that helps.

This conflict hurts :guilty: , and yes, it depends on weather - for right now - since the conflict is my Dad's annual company picnic. He's just retired a few months now, and he's paying our way for the June trip (11 of us), and he sooooo loves to have all of us there at the picnic (show off). :goodvibes Last year was a big year for him, and I suppose this year will be too, having just retired. Of course, there are variables, like rain, or the timing of these events. The picnic is usually like 10 or 11 til 5 or 6, so we could go and leave early for the show/Meet. ;) That's a definate possibility! :thumbsup2 OR, my Dad could become so SICK of us after the trip that he wants NONE of us at the picnic :lmao: . Kelly sooooo wants to see Cars! We'll figure something out. ;) Just was 'warning'.

The good news is...last night I bought a plane ticket to Orlando! The bad news is...I'm leaving June 25th for a quickie trip! So, in the interest of saving money, I won't be driving up to Chicago on the 24th for the DIS meet. :( I'll be in Florida with my siblings to celebrate my mom's 81st birthday...with an evening and a morning at WDW before.

Hey - my first DIS meet ever was at the Rainforest Cafe at Woodfield in July 2000! I remember that WillyJ was there...and I had no clue who he was!!

Btw - I just returned from visiting Cedar Point on June 5th with my son and his friend...and it brought back fond memories of the "Riddle-Con" DIS meet there in Aug. 2003!

That's exactly what I wondered, back in 2000! WillyJ is a beloved-by-many former DIS Moderator and a great Saturday night chat host. :) I did a search of his posts, and the last time he posted on the DIS was on 12/31/05.

All that happens is we meet at the movie theatre at said finalized time (yet to be determined) and we watch CARS if you cannot make it there, we will be headed over to the YT food court for the meet part where we just chat and get to know each other!! :) what fun!!! i've never been to one, but it should be fun!!

Another super Chicago DIS meet. Bunchkin (Nicole) organized this one, a super job. As anyone who has organized a meet, it does take work...some phone calls, promoting here on the DIS, etc. Thanks, Nicole, thanks much.

We went to the new Disney/Pixar movie, Cars, before the food part. The movie was great, super animation again from the studio, neat story line. An enjoyable start. Then over to the mall for some food and chit-chat.
