wtpclc (Carrie) and dh (Scott). This will be our 2nd :D WDW Full marathon and second marathon ever. We'll be at Beach Club Villas from 1/5 to 1/12. Again, we hope to run the whole way (minus water and pic stops). We'd like to break 5 hours this year.

 Amy here! This will be my first marathon, planning on doing the Full (have to send in that registration paperwork  ). I will be doing several smaller races up to the WDW race in preparation, following both Galloway and Bingham's training plans respectively. I hope to run most of the marathon, walking at hydration stops, maybe doing approx 10:1 intervals. That's the plan anyway. Staying at BWV from Friday before the race and checking out on Wednesday post race.

Dave here as requested.

My plan is to do the full marathon in January '07, but I have not registered yet. It will be my first marathon ever, and I plan on some sort of run/walk strategy. I ran a lot of races about 10 years ago, and I will be running smaller races leading up to the marathon in January. So far I am planning on running a 10K in May, a 10 miler in August, and a 1/2 marathon in September. I would list my experience as intermediate, but I'm a beginner at this "incarnation" of my running. Don't know where I'm staying or any of those details yet.

Marissa here ; Goofy in 2007-- Second Disneyworld Marathon weekend; also running the Minnie and the Disneyland 1/2 and some other small races along the way; hope to run most of it, but with Goofy will definitely have walking intervals in there!!! Currently booked at Grand Floridian, but if I do Team in Training, I will be at their hotel (CBR, I heard??); then switching to a DVC Villa after the weekend!

DH (Mike) and I will be running again in '07. Full for me and half for DH again. It will be my 3rd year for the WDW marathon (Goofy '06) and DH's second WDW 1/2. I will be running the Minnie 15K and the DL 1/2 before that time. I've been running for many years and only race at Disney events, as I really don't enjoy racing. I just enjoy Disney and getting away with DH (and DIS Meets!!). At the kids' request, we're planning on staying at POP. Thanks for starting this thread :)

Jen here. I am a beginner doing the 1/2. This will be my first major race. I am doing a 5K in May and possibly a 10K this fall. I will be run/walking and possibly an intermediate by the time the race rolls around!!

I have not registered yet, but we are looking at where to stay. Possibly the Wilderness Lodge? I will be bringing my girls along, DD3 and DD6. I will post more updates as I get more info on me.

Judy - Since we are both beginners, I will be keeping my eye out for you!!!!!

Hey, it's Mel (short for Melissa for those who have asked :) ).

2007 will be my 2nd WDW half and my 3rd half overall. I'll also be at WDW in May for the Minnie 15K. I had never done any distance events of any sort until last year. I still don't feel like a runner yet, though my intervals are now more running than walking.

Thinking about doing the full in 2008...that's the year I'll turn 40, so seems like a good way to start it off!

I haven't made ressies yet, but hoping for BCV Jan 5 to 8.

Judy, if you want to do nametags, that would be cool! Helen took care of it last year, but looks like she won't be with us next time

Howdy!

Kevin here. I will be goin' Goofy in 2007. I did the 2006 full as well, so it'll be the second marathon for me (and technically, my first half). Mostly running it, I hope. Staying at the Polynesian.

Lynne here. Going Goofy for 2007. 2nd WDW Marathon weekend, my 3rd marathon and 4th half marathon without the swim/bike warmups I prefer. If you include the swim/bike warmups, it'll be my 6th marathon and 10th half. We'll be staying at OKW from Jan 1 or 2nd to at least Jan 8th.

Minnie (Suzy) here

I missed out on my WDW 1/2 last year due to injury but I am going to be there this year somehow someway ;)

I plan to run/walk the 1/2 and I am not sure yet where we will be staying. It has been years since I have done anything competitive (other than horse related) so I feel like am back to beginner status. I do plan to try a couple 5 or 10ks sometime before WDW.

Judy & Jen look for me too! I am another beginner planning to r/w the half. It will be my 2nd half with the first being this August. I just did my first 5k about a week ago.

I plan on staying at one of the values, probably pop century.

I may be alone - except for all of you ofcourse! My husband, dkidsx3 and I will be in disney at the end of this month and I am not sure if they will be able to join me in January. But I get to go because it will be my birthday weekend!

Thanks for starting this thread. It is motiviating to see who else is committed to 2007.

Melissa - 2007 Full. I think if I include Goofy (my 1st full) and another ultra i did in feb, it will be my 5th or 6th (depending on if i do the 50 miler) marathon distance. I've done 3 1/2's.

I haven't registered yet either, b/c we are undecided on the whole 2nd baby thing. If we do decide to get pregnant (and God willing we can) I'll still try to do the full but it obviously depends on timing (Sorry - too much personal info!)

:yay: Hi, all! I'll be there with DH WALKING the half. Look for me at the end of the pack! We'll have done a 5K, a 10K, Minnie 15K, and the DL 1/2 by then. Going to firm up ressies after Minnie. So looking forward to seeing all of you! :woohoo: Anne (with DH Bob)

goofyguy1958 here, AKA Mike B., I will be going Goofy in 2007 and they already have my money (I registered on Saturday, April fools day :confused3 :rotfl2: - I just got that). This will be my 5th marathon and 15th half but never back-to-back. Staying at either OKW or home at SSR depending if I can get DW to breakdown and come along with DD and DS. Here I go getting myself in trouble again; my goal is to do the Goofy in under 6 hours!

Susan and I are doing the Half again in 2007. We walked really really fast (for us anyways! LOL) in 2006 so we're hoping to walk/run it with more running in 2007.

It will hopefully be our 3rd Half Marathon we finish.

In 2005 we attempted the Half but chased down the bus because there was a rumor they had bananas  We finally caught it at mile 8.5 :) Mmm banana good.

We'll be back at either OKW or SSR and plan on arriving Thursday morning. We will be heading to the Expo for when they 1st open. Afterwards we plan on checking out the booths more, we didn't in '06 only shopped the weekend merchandise.

I'd have to say for speed we're still beginners. There is a gazelle in there somewhere but to date the penguins have been making an appearance.
And our plan is to cheer for the Full, leaning towards the inside of Epcot.

I think I'll be doing the full (and possibly Goofy) in 2007. Did Goofy in 2006, but don't think they "officially" counted it, since my net time was about 4 minutes over the limit. So I want the official marathon time .

Will stay "home" at SSR.

ETA: I hope to run/walk the full (more run than walk). That was my plan in 2006, but then I started with shin splints in the 1/2 and couldn't do much running in the full, so I walked.

This will be my 2nd marathon. I'm also doing the DL 1/2 in Sept.

Hi, I'm Bill and have signed up for the Goofy next year. I did the full in 2006 and will do Disneyland in Sept as well as other shorter races at Disney. I generally just lurk and read the training thread most of the time to keep up with people and their progress. DW (crzy4pooh) generally posts what I am up to and how I am doing. She hasn't decided what she is doing for WDW 2007 yet.

I tend not to post on the training thread because I found out I upset a person on there. I'm happy to answer questions from time to time as I am able and will try to post more regularly later to the training thread if circumstances allow.

I would LOVE to do the 1/2 in 2007! I have never done anything like that. I have just recently gotten back into exercise, and I am really enjoying it. DH and I have been walking a lot (I would have to WALK most, if not all, of it). I always keep our time (gotta love those exercise challenge minutes!), and I tell him that we've got to get it to "marathon time"!

My other incentive is that my brother & father (both exercise fanatics) are convinced that I CANNOT do this! I was ALWAYS the child who did what she was told not to do! :lmao:

When do you have to register? I know some of you have registered already? Is it too late??

I signed up for the 2006 Half to get motivated and it worked. I finished! It was my first athletic attempt in 30 years. I wouldn't believe i did it but have the medal to prove it.
Signed up for Minnie next month and Disneyland half in Sept also.

This month I will be doing a 5 mile walk, In May I will be doing a 5k (and may be doing a 10k as well - same month), in October I will be doing the Hartford 1/2 Marathon.

While in Disney I will be staying at the POFQ.

well i'm official too -- my Mom (AlreadyexcitedGrammy) and I have both registered for the 2007 1/2 marathon so count us in! we are both walkers so for those who mentioned they would be walking we will be right with you! along with TammyNC and her DH (already registered) and annieT. we'll shoot for a 14:30 - 15 min mile, as of now. we'll be at the Swan unless there are awesome codes we may switch to WL

reading everyone's goals is really motivating -- i just did my 3rd 1/2 marathon this weekend and it really is addictive isn't it -- i have to agree with tigerlily in that it's all about the jewelry :) and a trip to WDW isn't a bad incentive either :)

Hey guys!

Steve here. I'm going to be doing Goofy in '07. I finally just registered today. This will be my 2nd marathon--first one was Disney last year. My goal is simply to finish, but my crazy goal (you know, that little obnoxious one that rests in the back of your mind while you keep telling yourself that you should really only have one goal? :) ) is to finish the full in under 4:30. I finished the full in 4:44 this year, but I also didn't run a half marathon the day before, so we'll see how this all works out.

In the meantime, I have a half marathon in May (Cincinnati Flying Pig) and several 5K and 10K races scattered throughout spring, summer and fall. I might try to throw in another half marathon sometime early fall.

My DW (Krista--aladdinsgirl) and I are staying at the BWV for the event and staying through the next week. Krista is also running that weekend, but I'll let her post her plans separately since she posts a lot more than I do and she is much more eloquent than I with her words. :)

2005- my niece and I ran the full, my DH ran the half.

2006- my niece and I trained for the full. The week before the marathon my DH got very ill, required hospitalization. MD was going to discharge him Sat AM so I could make it to the EXPO and run the marathon on Sunday. Pulmonary MD said "NO DISCHARGE...." so, no race for us (in the end this was for the best, I was in no condition to run a marathon) My DH ended up having serious life threatening complications the next week and although I was disappointed when I couldn't run the marathon after all the training, I soon realized how selfish I had been.....

2007- my DH, niece and I have all committed ourselves to run GOOFY! :rotfl2: My DH is just recovered enough to start his maintenance training. I am going to run the CM half marathon in Nashville on April 29th. The past 2 years I have been fortunate to run an 18 mile organized race in Sunny Hills FL--( a bit north of Panama City). It is a great training run for the DW Marathon if anyone lives close enough to participate. Small race with a great hilly course--it will be on Nov 18th this year. We will train w/ Hal Higdons marathon plan for novices and add mileage the day prior to our long runs in attempt to finish GOOFY.

Don't know where we will stay, either GF-CR or BWI. Tend to think the monorail might be the way to go having to deal w/ the early AM wake up call two days in a row!!! Having a hard time not going back to BWI. Such decisions. We plan on arriving on Friday Jan 5th and depart Wed Jan 10th.

Hi - My name is Darcey. Both my DH (Andrew) and I are signed up for the Half. We will be at the back of the pack walking (hopefully a little running, too!) Our goal is first to not get swept, and then to finish. We are beginners. We have done some local races (5K, 7miles, 10K) but this will certainly be the longest and the toughest race we will complete. If everything goes well, we will probably sign up for the Full in 2008, but we'll see, that's a long time away!!

We are planning on staying at Allstar Movies from the 4th though the 8th. However, we may upgrade to the French Quarter. The kids are staying home this trip with family, so this is a Mom and Dad only trip! We can't wait!!

At my 40th birthday party I was challenged to do something big for the year. So I registered this week for my first marathon - WDW 2007. I am currently training for my 3rd Half Marathon (May 6 - Indy Mini). I do a run/walk. My goals for all events are the same: train properly, make it to the start line healthy and finish the race. I'll be run/walking the Half and it will be my first marathon event ever. I'm running a 5k this weekend (and a few more over the course of the next few months) and will be in the Peachtree Road Race 10k on July 4th.

Haven't made hotel plans yet but most likely will be at a value resort (what can I say, I love Pop!)

I think we should get some shirts made up!

I will be doing the Half--it will be my 2nd Half. I am hoping to run most of it, unlike the last one where I walked to whole thing. My aunt called this week and it looks like she will be doing it too. My DH says he is, I need to get him signed up. I have no idea where I am staying yet????

Another "Darcey" here (how strange is that?!)...DH and I are in for Goofy in 2007. We both did the Half in '06 and a few other races here and there (next up a 5-miler in Valley Forge, then on to the Minnie 15K). I think we started backwards with our first race being a half marathon in fall 2005.

So add us disneybelle and DH (Darcey & Karl) as absolutley "Goofy"

Hi all!

I will be doing the 1/2 Marathon in 2007. I'm planning on running it, but if I were to do it today, it'd be run and walk. :) This will be my first 1/2 marathon, though I've done about four 5ks and two 10ks before.

I'm not sure yet, but my DH (who will not be doing the 1/2 with me! :rolleyes2 ) and I are planning to stay at POP. :)

I'm signing up for Goofy this week. I did the Goofy in 2006 (my first 1/2 & full ever - love my medals), but since my full marathon time wasover the 7 hour limit, I didn't get the certificates for the full or Goofy. I just got the Donald 1/2 certificate. I want them ALL!!

So, I'll be doing Goofy in 2007. Not sure where I'm staying. One of the DVC resorts, but I don't know which one yet.

I'm also doing the DL 1/2 in Sept. and hopefully some shorter, local races.

Hi All!

I am still undecided.....the beginning of the year is a very busy time for me at work (I am a budget analyst) and last year my boss covered for me so that I could do the half in WDW. I had an absolute blast.

Now I am toying with the idea of the full this time around (I have a serious case of medal envy) but hesitate to ask my boss for the same time off whether it is for the half or the full.

My indecision is driving me nuts! On one hand just asking for time off at such a busy time might be a bit much, but on the other hand it was such an awesome experience. So, if I do get the time off should it be the half or the full?? I am a walker, so walking 26.2 miles in the required time seems so huge. But on the other, other hand (gee how many hands do I get?) I met several people wearing Mickey medals last January who were walkers. In fact I was cheering full walkers outside the AK at about 10:30AM on Sunday and they all looked like they were going to go the distance.

Like I said, I am driving myself nuts! But I guess in a good way. I am going to complete four half-marathons in four states this year (WDW-FL, Capital City Classic -OH, Chicago Classic - IL, and Inaugural DL - CA). Maybe I SHOULD do the full in Jan.

Now I just have to talk to my boss......

Hi Kris and welcome to the Disboards. I would definitely like to know more about the Diseny Dead Runners. How do I find the web site?

Paul, I signed up for the Goofy for 2007 - wife asked last night what is this $198 charge for :rolleyes1 - and I have one very simple question for you vets: What the h@#$ possessed me to do this to myself? Seriously, did you walk, run, or combo the Goofy in January? Also any training advice is always welcome? I hope to complete the combo in under 6 hours (2 for the half and 4 for the full).

To everyone who has committed, great job and welcome aboard. To all of you sitting on the fence here is a bit of a push to get you over to the sign-up table. Now it is up to you to complete the forms and start your training. GOOD LUCK AND GOOD TRAINING TO ALL!

Add 2 more to the full marathon.

Last year my wife participated in the "Training to End Stroke" program as a walker. Even though she had the endurance to complete the race, she didn't have the speed and an unscheduled early "pit stop" put her behind minimum pace and she got pulled at the 5 mile point. She was incredibly dissapointed and vowed that "next year" she would complete the race.

Because of her hectic work schedule and unbearable heat during daylight hours she did a lot of her walking late at night. I voluntereed to accompany her. I enjoyed the long walks and eventually started running on my own in addition to walking with her and decided I would try my first marathon also. I finished with a net time of 5:30:25 and count it as one of the most memorable accomplishments of my life. I can't wait to do it again.

My wife is training to improve her pace and I plan on staying at her side and crossing the finish line next to her.

Last year my wife stayed at the Beach Club Resort with her training group and I stayed in the motorhome at fort Wilderness. We have reservations for Fort Wilderness for 2007.

Chimera,

We had a blast.

The race at Disney had 463 Teams entered. We placed 143rd overall and 26th out of 47 for our Division. I look forward to competing in this one again next year.

The race was 6.5 miles and consisted of 5 legs. At the beginning, one team member starts on the bicycle and the other member starts running 1 minute later. At the end of the first leg is an obstacle. The bicycler drops the bike, completes the obstacle and takes off running on the second leg. The runner completes the obstacle and finds the bike and pedals to the second leg to the next obstacle where the roles are once again switched. At the end, you have to wait for your buddy and together you have to crawl through a mud pit on your belly, then a short sprint to the finish.

The event was typical Disney fun, well done and suitable for a wide range of athletic ability.

The Sarasota Muddy buddy was a completely different event. The course was 6 miles, but switching between biking and running could be done at any point on the course. The course involved several ditch/canal crossings of knee deep water and was physically more demanding. There were somewhere near 24 teams competing and we finished 8th out of 12 in our division.

I'll do this one again too.

This will be my first Half Marathon!! DH will go with me, My best friend from California, her DH and my Dad.

We will probably get a big house offsite as my Mom and my 3 kids will be joining us. The promise of a week at Disney is helping me get lots of time on the road and in the gym while they stay home!!!

I am now officially signed up to do the half marathon. I will most likely be trying to walk the 13.1 miles. We'll see how the next 199 days of training go - maybe I'll be able to walk/run. I am a beginner - this will be my first race.

Welcome all the newcomers! Make sure you check out the weekly training thread for advise and encouragement. This is a good group of people.

RedSonya, Vegas is extremely close to the Disney marathon. I think they are only about 4-5 weeks apart. Most experts recommend that you spend either 1 day per mile or 1 day per km (depending on who you ask) as recovery after a marathon before your next race or long run. Since you have not run a marathon before, you do not know how it will affect you, and how quickly you will recover. Please keep this in mind when you decide if you are going to do 2 marathons so close together. I speak from experience, as I did 3 marathons in 6 months from the end of last October to this April. Personally, I decided NOT to do the Vegas marathon this year because I did not think that I could fully recover from Vegas before Disney. Ultimately, you know yourself and your abilities more than I do, so the decision is entirely yours. If you decide to do Vegas and then Disney, make sure you go slow and take steps to prevent injury. Check Hal Higdon's website for info on running multiple marathons. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the great advice Paul. I am really a novice, and fairly old to be joining the running scene so I'm sure I will need a long recovery time. I have been trying to get lots of info from all sources to aid my running. I think I will avoid the Vegas run and instead try some 10k and halves this summer and early fall.

Hey there everyone! :wave2:

My name is Teresa and I'm from Brooklyn, NY. I'm registered for the Goofy and plan on running it fully! :woohoo:

I'm a member of New York Road Runners and the ING New York City Marathon 2006 will be my first marathon ever :yay: , so the WDW Marathon will be my 2nd marathon ever. I think that I'm probably pretty nutty for doing this to myself, but ya know what...you only live once and I'm going to challenge my body to the max!

I booked a room at Boardwalk Inn. Though I might end up canceling that reservation and hopping to another resort (depending on my cast member discount! Oh yeah, I'm a dreaded CM!).

This past May was actually my very first time at WDW! It took 25 years, but it was well worth the wait! I went with my boyfriend (who's Jrawksteady on this board!) and had an AMAZING time! Since I work for the company, I thought that I might not like it as much. Well, I was WRONG, because I want to go back there even worse!!!

We stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge, which I completely fell in love with. I cried the last day because I made friends with the giraffes outside of my balcony! I wanted to stay there for the marathon weekend, however I was afraid because it's so far away. Did any of you guys stay there in previous years during the marathon by any chance?

Well, can't wait until January! I want my packet to arrive NOW!!!!!! :dancer:

Could you add us to the list? Chuck (DH) and I wiil be doing the half, planning to run the whole way. Not sure where we'll be staying yet. This will be the first event for both of us, unless we do a local 5k or 10k this fall.

Well this is my first post over here in the WISH forums, and what better way to start off then saying I'm registered for the Marathon, and my wife the half for 2007. We're both active duty military stationed up here at Hurlburt Field in the panhandle, and hoping that we're not somewhere far away come January so we can complete our individual races, which both will be firsts for us. She's completed no more than a 5k race previously (although several) and I did a half this last January before falling back out of shape. We've also both got about 30 pounds to lose to get back to our ideal weight, so we'll see how that progress goes as well. Add us on!

Welcome to all the newcomers! You are going to love the WDW marathon/half marathon. It is such a great experience. For those who are completely new to running and/or marathon training, you can do it! Many of us on the WISH Racing Team have gone from couch potatoes to marathoners. You simply have to put in the steps and train.

Tim and I will be running / walking the half marathon next January.
Tim ran the Goofy last year but is running another marathon later in January and decided to just run the half. I always walk the half ( but run through the castle... :teeth: photo opp.). I love to take in the day and enjoy myself...and still be able to climb onto a Disney bus in the afternoon.

Beaches and Cream is ALWAYS our stop after the half. Yummy.
A No Way Jose hits the spot after 13.1 miles.

I do have one suggestion.
It's usually pretty chilly waiting at the starting line ( in the last corral ). I go to Goodwill before I leave and purchase the biggest terry cloth robe ...even better if it has a hood ....and use it as my "throw away " . I may look silly on the bus but many looked at my robe with envy :rolleyes1 . I think the robes were $3-4.00 each. Tim wore a lovely lime green zip up one piece sleeper on Marathon day. He made a lot of people laugh  . Our outfits are some of our funniest memories.

Hey all, my name is Daniel........ I'm gonna be running Goofy this year also. I signed up for it with my brother Paul(going the distance).

I am really really looking forward to it. I am a new runner as of the beginning of this year. For me running is extremely awesome not because I am fast or anything, but just because it is a healthy outlet to keep my mind off of work and school a few times a week.

Six months ago I thought that I could never run a mile, this saturday I'll run 14!!!

I look forward to meeting some of you at WDW in 2006. By the way, it will be my first trip to Disneyworld!

Take care everyone,

Hi Everyone,

I was really inspired by reading all of your training posts. I am hoping to finish the DL half and just signed up for the WDW half as well. Unfortunately, I couldn't talk my husband or my daughter into running with me. They did offer to get up at the crack of dawn to cheer me on :cheer2:

I'm doing the half as a walker. My real name is Kelley. We're staying at the BWV, using our points.

I'm really nervous. I've never done an official race of any type before. My only experience prior to the WDW event will be the Baltimore Half Marathon in October.

My biggest fear is maintaining the required pace. Right now, during training, I can walk a 13:50 mile for 8 miles. That's good enough, but I'm still a little worried...yet optimistic.

DH is a serious runner, but can't register for the WDW. He works for the Baltimore Ravens so he usually has to keep his early January weekends open for work.

So, it might just be me and kids in WDW for the marathon weekend. :sad1: :lovestruc :cheer2: :cheer2:

I am hoping to run the Disney marathon with Team in Training. My official meeting isn't until next week but I have already made up my mind so hopefully it will work out.

I know this is a pathetic request but can someone pm me the link to thread of people training? I spent an hour just finding this thread! And its not like I am new to the boards either! I guess it took me a while to put "just for fun" and marathon in the same sentence!

Seems I lost most of my marathon buddies from another site. It's taken me awhile to catch up to you here because work has been keeping me from the computer. At least it hasn't been keeping me completely from training, although I feel lucky to get my runs in when I do.

For those that don't know, I'm in for the Goofy this year. I've been training now for about 6 months after some of this group got me going. I just completed my first 1/2 marathon a couple weeks ago, which was such a great experience. I am now hoping I can get in another 1/2 before going to WDW. I did really well in that race, but it sure reinforced how much more training is still to be done for the Goofy.

DW is contemplating the Disney 1/2 marathon but I don't think she'll decide before the registration closes.

My name is Robert and I am doing the Goofy again. I will be walking again(LY 3:05 & 6:32) and staying at Boardwalk. My wife will try again this year as she broke her toe 4 weeks before and couldn't run. I have done over 40 marathons and 40 ultramarathons before having both Achilles operated on 5 weeks apart in 2003. I have not been the same speed wise and the "Goofy" this year were my first 2 races since I tore my Achilles in a 50K in 2001. I walked the marathon in 96 @ 5:09.

I also am webmaster/owner of DisneyRunning website. If you have any reports/photos from any races at Disney(from 5K up) please email them to me so I can add them to the site. Look forward to all the new DL 1/2 and WDW races in Jan.

To ensure the shirts can be shipped in time for the January Half/Full, we need to get any orders by Sept 8th. All the details are in the "updated" portion of the first post of this thread:
WISH Team Shirt Re-order thread (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=14259752&postcount=1)

I'm really excited because I missed out on the first order and want to get some shirts to go goofy in in January!

DH and I are running the 1/2. It will be my 6th 1/2 marathon. I ran the Chicago marathon and have done the Indy 1/2 for 5 straight years. I'm very excited about running at the Happiest Place on Earth. We are travelling with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program so I'm not sure where we are staying yet. Good luck to all!

Hello, All!
My name is Katie and I'll be running the half marathon. My sister and I are staying at Pop (we were there in August for the free dining and she wants to use her mug again!!! :coffee:)
I have run 2 half marathons in the past. One was a local race here in the Pittsburgh suburbs (it was in North Park for all you locals out there!) and the other was the Cleveland half marathon. I enjoyed both, but soon after running them I developed a tibial stress fracture and had to take a year off.
:( Now I'm ready to run again (I'm back up to 5 miles every other day) and I can't think of anywhere I'd rather do my next big run than at Disney.
I can't wait to get my W.I.S.H shirt, and I look forward to meeting you all in January!

Not me, but DH! We're staying at POR (unless and good AP rate comes out). DH is running the Goofy Challenge. This is his second Disney marathon. He has also run the Steamtown Marathon, The NJ Marathon and the Boston Marathon. The kids and I will be his cheerleaders! Hope to meet some other Dissers.

hey - what a long list of folks registered!

If I participate, other than be an official cheerleader :cheer2: it will be walking the 1/2 marathon. This would be my 2nd - I was among the DIS board inaugural group in 2005.

Having some back and hip problems, so until I really try the longer mileage, just not sure, BUT I am sure that I will be there - paid registration, have airline ticket, staying at Swan (with DD - ohMom) ressies for a massage and BOMA :rotfl:

So, count me in for some of the fun

PS. my personal reservationist/TA is my DD - ohMom - so if she says we are doing something - we're both doing it - only way to go - okay I do pack a suitcase (yes, pack and then take 1/2 of everything out), get on the plane and be ready for a wonderful trip to the world - hey - she just lost a few bucks in Vegas - need a personal TA she might be willing to help you out, too :rotfl: Just mention my name - I may still get a referral discount on my trip

Hi, fellow runners and walkers! This is my first time ever replying to a message board/forum (so please share instructions and helpful hints with me).

I have been running for 25 years, non-competitively (just for fun)... a life-long Disney fan, running the Goofy Challenge, and staying at the AS Music.

I'm thrilled to have discovered this community of Disney Runners/Walkers!!!!!!!!

I am traveling solo and would love to meet up with others.

So happy to have found this 'Magical Place' magical place,

Judy-I haven't checked this thread for a while. You can change me to staying offsite and this will be my 3rd 1/2 marathon. Cant wait to see you in January!

Teri-the Friday night dinner is going to be at POR, we will post definite times & stuff on the weekly thread when it get closer to time. Basically just show up, put on your name tag & mingle! The Illuminations Dessert Party is on Sunday night and I think its $40 per person. PM Rhonda (akasleepingbeauty) and she can get you the info you need. She is taking care of all the arrangements for that event. Should be a blast!

Judy,

Can you please add John(DH) (DISboards aka: Space Ranger) to the list. It will now be John, Sean(DS20) & myself. We are all doing the Half. Staying at the Poly. Even though John & I did the Philly 1/2 we still consider ourselves beginners. Our plan is to Walk/Run it.

John had originally not wanted to do the WDW ˝ Marathon. He was afraid he wouldn’t be fast enough to meet the min. pace requirement. Well after doing the ˝ in Philly & finishing fast enough to meet WDW’s requirement, he has decided that he wants to participate. Of course by that point registration has been closed. We looked into registering him with one of the fundraising groups but didn’t think he would have enough time to raise the funds needed. So….we changed our ressies from WDW with AAA discount to Anthony Travel. Because we were booking for at least 3 nights, John was able to sign up for the WDW ˝ as part of Anthony Travels Group.

Thanks Judy!

Hello, !!! :cool1:

So excited about running our first 1/2 marathon ever and doing it at Disney. My husband and I added running to our work-outs about a year a go and on October 8 we just did our first 10K, Disney's Race for the Taste !! It was great. We are running the 1/2 to raise money for the AT Children's Project, which I have come to truly believe in !!

My kids are going to be able to come see us because my mom and dad are going to bring them for us !!

We are going to stay at the Contemporary where our family can come right out and cheer us on. We are hoping to run the whole thing, although I don't think I can (but I tend to underestimate myself) !!! We will see . Good luck to everyone :Pinkbounc

My name is Vic and I'm running the 1/2 marathon.

The DW and I are staying at POR, 1/4 - 1/8.

I've run off and on since retiring from active duty in 1998. When I turned 50 in July I decided to get back to a regular regimen, and figured I needed a goal. So I signed up for the 1/2. My long runs are at 8 miles on Sundays and 3 to 4 miles on Tues and Thurs. My training goal is to get my long runs to 12 before starting the taper.

Good luck to everone. :)

Welcome, and good luck on your 1/2. You'll love AKL...its my favorite at WDW. Too much money for this trip, otherwise I would be there also.

You might want to reconsider the hot tub after a long run like a 1/2 marathon. Ice helps speed recovery, and heat is actually worse for your legs. Of course, you know your recovery and running habits better than I do. It is entirely up to you. Again, good luck on the 1/2.

Judy - please change us to All Star Sports. There was no AP rate for Pop Century, and AKL would send me over budget on this trip. Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome!! You are quite smart to be warning me away from that hot tub... I actually have been known to soak in a tub of ice after long runs myself! But I can't resist the allure of a soak in the AKL hot tub, so I just might have to deal with the muscle soreness. I am living dangerously. :sunny:

My DDs (21,16,14) and I ran in the 5K fun run last year and had a blast. My 14 yo convinced me to try the half marathon this year, so we signed up. She is on the XC team at school, so she was deep into her training program by the beginning of October. Unfortunately, she tripped three weeks ago and fractured her ankle. Her walking cast won't come off until 12/20. Very sad. But she is excited to coach me through my training, and will be my biggest supporter during the race.

Does anyone know of a good plan for my family to watch me run? I am thinking the TTC for sure, and then back to EPCOT for the finish. Any other ideas? We won't have a car.

You may be too fast for this, but here's what my scream team did last year. We averaged an 11:44 mpm pace.

Epcot - Start and 4-mile mark
Monorail to MK for Main Street
They could have watch from behind Poly. Will do this year
