I have done a lot of research and received the catalog for the Calvery School. I think this is what I am going to use for DD starting in Kindergarten. I really like the way their program works.

I am going to do pre-K without any structured programs.

I am thinking of using the ATS starting in 1st grade so that I have a transcript for DD.

If you use ATS, do you like it?

Do you buy any of the supplemental programs? There were some that looked really interesting.

I used Calvert for my dd who is now in high school.
I've been using it for my ds who is now in 6th grade.
My youngest ds started K with it this year.

It's a great classical curriculum. I like the emphasis on writing skills. It really teaches the child how to write, and how to do it well. The math program didn't used to be so hot, so I went to Saxon Math instead, and have continued using it for everyone. They have since developed a new program but I don't have any first-hand experience with it; however I like that you can tailor it to your child's level.

The entire program only goes to 8th grade. Unless you homeschool in a state that requires transcripts, it really isn't necessary to go with the ATS. However, friends of mine have used it for more accountability with their homeschooling. I personally prefer to buy the extra test series (with answer key) and use it instead, and keep my own records. If you end up homeschooling into high school the only records that matter are high school transcripts for college.

I've also used many of Calvert's extra enrichment programs, from Melody Lane, to French, to Discovering Art, to the Little House unit study. We've enjoyed them all.

If you have any more questions, I'll try to answer them for you! Good luck!!!

Great, thanks!

I am not sure at this point if Ohio requires transcripts or not. I don't think so.

Do you know that you can get Calvert free through Ohio Connections Academy? It is an online charter school in Ohio and they offer Calvert as their main curr. choice.

I used Calvert w/ ATS for 2yrs(4th & 5th) with DD and we really liked it. She loved having a teacher send her grades and write her little notes. I loved everything about the curriculum and felt is was balanced and well-suited for my child. If we were still homeschooling i wouldn't hesitate to go right back to Calvert.

Thanks!

I did not realize that Ohio used Calvert. I thought they used a different curriculum for the online courses.
