If you mean June 16, 2007 then we are going. We are in the Roy suite and we cannot wait. Right now it is me(LeiLani-42), DH(Rich-43), DD(Brittany-16), and DD(Alyssa-10). We also hope to have my DD's boyfriends family join us. They can't amke reservations until the 4th though.

Can't wait!

Well, it's great to meet you Elizabeth and welcome to the DIS boards. It sounds like you are my oldest DD's age and your sister is the same age as my youngest DD. Maybe you guys can hook up before the cruise some time.

We are doing the 7 day Western this August and I can't wait but now all I want to plan is the Med cruise.

Hopefully we will keep this thread going and have more people join us after the 4th.

How were you able to make reservations before the 4th?

DVC4US
04-02-2006, 09:43 PM
Hi Elizabeth! Sorry I didn't answer sooner, but I went to Chicago for the weekend with some girlfriends.

We wanted a suite for the summer of 2007 so we put in a request for one 2 years ago. We just got lucky and it turned out to be a Med cruise. DCL started filling the faxed in requests last week so they would know what they have available on the 4th. These were the only people able to book last week, everyone else (TA's included) will have to wait until the 4th. I take it you guys have not booked yet?

Did you have a good weekend?

gou08

HI! We are so hopeful to be cruising the Med. as well! What a great opportunity for the kids! DH-Abby is 13, DS-Iain is 11 and DS-son is 9 right now! We are hoping to sail with at least one other set of family friends! We are looking at the 11 night July 28th.

Is anybody else nervous about not having space enough to book??? We didn't find out about the waitlist till after it had closed, and wish we would have pushed a little harder earlier. Sigh.

Congrats to getting the Roy O. Disney Suite! That is our someday hope...till then we are just enjoying each and every sailing!

Wishing you all pixie dust!

Hi LeiLani!

What a beautiful name! There is a waiter at the Yachtsman Steakhouse who has a granddaughter with that name and I have always thought it so pretty!

Where are you DVC members? We have been members since '93, at OKW,then later at BWV, and HH.

We are hoping to book the med with points!

Enjoy the Roy suite! It should be wonderful!

Pixie Dust wishes!

Hi Tiffany!

We have been members since 1998 and our home resort is BWV. We were just there in March for spring break and we will be at the Wilderness Lodge this summer before we go on the 7 day western cruise. We love DVC and taking our trips to WDW.

Hi guys---so sorry that I started another thread today but I was not able to find this one. Thank you for locating us and hooking us up. I was actually considering switching this morning to Monstro's cruise a couple of weeks later because I did not see any DIS ers on this date. Isn't it sad when you are choosing sailing dates by how fun your DIS group will be????? :rotfl2:
Now I am excited that we have so many thus far. :thumbsup2

I am Judy (45), my DH Dale (46), DS 10, DS7, DD4, DMom(80).
We live here in Orlando so when you are in town let us know and we will try to have some mini meets prior to 2007.

Congratulations to all of us for getting what we were looking for and embarking on new territory for DCL. :wizard:

Hey that was a T.O.P. and I did not realize we were on page 2 already.

Leilani--which summer cruise are you doing? We leave Sat. for a western, ( first cruise back to Cozumel evidently) The guinea pig cruise. :lmao: We were contemplating waiting for the rebook for med cruise on board but Barb priced us at tier one so we could not turn it down.

04-04-2006, 10:43 PM
Hi Judy!

Glad you found us. I hope you stay with our cruise because I know we will have fun. There are more of us out there I know because I just saw a posting on the DCL Forum boards with other DISers saying they had booked the June 16th crusie so I tried to steer them our way.

When we went on the 2004 10 day Christmas cruise we talked on the boards for a year and a half and had a lot of fun. So this will be great getting to know everyone before we cruise.

Our family is going on the Aug 12th cruise this year and we plan on being in WDW the week before the cruise and it would be great if we had a mini-meet. As it gets closer and I have plans made we can figure out a time and place.

Okay Judy - what a small world we live in. I did not realize that you were on the Christmas cruise with us. How funny.

I don't know if we will be able to keep up with those blabbermouths. I remember most of them from the Christmas cruise and boy can they talk.

Do you remember Virgil? He PM'd me the other day and said he was going to be on this cruise also. I told him about the thread but I have seen him on it yet. I know he is going on the Wonder soon so maybe he is busy. I will PM him next week if we haven't seen him by then.

We were extremely lucky and got the Roy suite for this cruise so we will probably do a wine and champange DIS meet in our suite. We did this when we had the Walt suite 2 years ago and it was a lot of fun.

Did anyone book their air with DCL? We are going to do our own because we will probably fly over a day or two before hand so we can get over the jet lag and then we are going to stay in Europe for another 10 days or so.

windermerejudy
04-04-2006, 10:55 PM
Leilani---we were on that same 10 day Christmas!!!!!!! Did you know any of the DIS group-----Stacey, GaRRy, Lynda & Cash, Mary Ann, Jen.....I did not know them then. Met Stacey in California last year and met the others since chatting for the upcoming Christmas cruise. Garry is coming down and I will get to meet him over Easter.

Yes we are definitely a stay on this one----especially since you guys are a fun crowd!!!!!!

Judy - that is pretty funny. Yes, I did know the "group". We had late dinning so we all sat together. That cruise was a lot of fun and we had a lot of DIS meets. I really wish we were going on the May 27th cruise with them, but the girls will still be in school so that was a no go for us. I know you will have a lot of fun with them on the upcoming Christmas cruise.

windermerejudy
04-04-2006, 11:04 PM
How funny we must have been writing that at the same moment.

You know it was a hard year last year in that we were supposed to go on the Christmas cruise and my father was diagnosed with lung cancer so we cancelled thinking it would be my last Christmas with him--well he only made it 4 weeks. We ended up booking again at the last moment and bringing my mom with us. We were all still kind of in a daze and just trying to make it through Christmas without losing it. Not really in the party mode but we watched you all having a great time and we loved your tshirts.

That is why we jumped on the Christmas one again. Wanted to be a part of the wild DIS group.

Silver7---WOW you must be putting your feet up and relaxing now. What an insane day, HUH????? Oh well, tomorrow you can actually get up and go to the bathroom during your workday. That is crazy. When I called back to Barb prices had gone up from what she was holding for us by something like $800.

So where is Clearlake? I grew up in EL Paso and went to college in Amarillo. Moved to Fort Worth after that and then moved with my DH to Detroit for a few years and now here. WHEW

Anybody know how long the overseas portion of the flight is?

windermerejudy
04-04-2006, 11:15 PM
Leilani---Your the best!! You know we would love to see the Suite. I have seen Staceys pictures that is the closest I have come. You know I look at it like this---if I tasted the other side I am not sure if I could go back. There was this hotel in Hawaii that we love to go to and once they out of the blue upgraded us to a beautiful oceanfront suite. It was beyond awesome. Now when I go back, I am always thinking of that suite. I guess I am like that with my balcony. I think I have to have one.

Okay for those of you who aren't aware-------LOL

T.O.P s are the top of the page and they are every 15 posts. It is like a contest to pirate them away from your fellow cruisers. No, there is no free cruise for getting one-----just bragging rights for one post. GAME ON!!!!!! :Pinkbounc pirate: :Pinkbounc

Congrats Judy on the second T.O.P.!!! I see I am going to have to be on my toes again.

I know what you mean. Once we had a suite on the cruise my DH said he would never cruise again without being in a suite. As a matter of fact when I booked our Aug 12th cruise there were no suites so I booked a Cat 4 and waitlisted for a suite. He kept saying he was not going unless we got a Cat 3(and I kept saying - oh well we will go without you then). But lo and behold we got lucky and the waitlist came through. :woohoo: That is going to be harder now that deposits for the suites are non-refundable. So, I guess he will just have to drag himself along. Of course he was going anyway since his parents and my parents are joinning us on that cruise.

DVC4US
04-04-2006, 11:38 PM
I can't remember the exact flight times, but I did do some checking and I think it was around 9 to 12 hours from the east coast. I am taking my parents to Scotland in May and our flight from Newark to Edinburgh in 7 hours. That's why we are thinking about flying over a day or two in advance. Also, the majority of the flights are overnight flights and I never can sleep that well on those planes so it will be nice to have some time to recover before we board the boat.

One last thing before I go to bed.

One of the couples on our August 12th cruise is from Italy so I told her to be ready because I was going to pick her brain about the ports and things we should see. So if anyone has any questions let me know and I will gladly ask her.

Goodnight!

windermerejudy
04-04-2006, 11:46 PM
Nonrefundable deposits??? Wow is that because of all the cancelled ressies and then trying to fill the suites at the last minute?

Boy, I am glad my DD will have another year of maturing before a 12 hour flight. We have done the 13 hour to Hawaii but not with a precocious 3 yo. You know my son just finished a study unit in third grade on Ancient Rome and of course for me it was like I had never heard it before. It was much more fascinating for me now. Anyway he was so excited to see the listings of Pompeii, Mt. Vesuvius, roman coliseum, ....

Good Morning everyone!

Clear Lake is a suburb of Houston. It is where Nasa is located--the Astronauts train here.

We are also DVC--OKW since '94.

Lelani--Thanks! I was hoping this group would be the kind to have get togethers! I was part of the TurkeyDay cruisers of '04 and had a ball!

Welcome Brenda! This will be your first Disney cruise? Wow what a way to start! You will love it.

Teresa--Lampy has backed out on us but Kelli and Willie are on. I love to give Willie a hard time. He returns the favor. They sound fun. He has designated himself drink of the day judge and ambassador. You know we Texans have to stick together. NOONE ELSE UNDERSTANDS WHY TEXAS IS THE BEST. LOL :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Welcome Aboard Brenda!!!!

Judy - yes they brought out the non-refundable deposits on the suites because people were booking them and then cancelling at the last minute. It makes it a little tougher to plan so far out but I guess I can understand.

I'm thinking it's going to be a tough flight on my 10yo(will be 11yo then) so I am sure it will be harder on a young one. But I am sure they will do better than us. I know my DH and I flew to Hawaii several years ago and it took me a couple of days just to recover.

windermerejudy
04-05-2006, 11:04 AM
Between the portable DVD and PSP they have more entertainment than us. I have soduku and reading. (Oh yeah and the biggest job of all----entertaining my DD) I wonder if the younger kids club will be emptier than usual due to the long flight.

My son's teacher grew up in Italy and her family is still there. I think I will have to have her educate me some.

I heard a rumor that there was a poster here named Silver7, and I had to drop by and say a big hello to my buddy!

Hi Teresa!

We missed you on the TurkeyDay 2005 sailing!

FYI- Teresa is the person who I first heard of regarding the drink of the day contest. You guys better watch out sailing with her and Mark. Those Texas chicks can drink most men under the table.

Willie-- I am so glad Teresa trained you right. Personally I do not know if I could try some of those melon liquer things they create (Blue food dye doesn't do it for me) I'll stick to my Baileys Coladas and Bahama Mamas. Can we create our own DOD instead of DCL's?

It's not definite yet, but we have a hold on 2 category 5s for our family of 6. We really wanted a cat 2 so we could all be in one cabin, but it was not to be. We loved our cat. 2 last September. Part of me wants to just do a different cruise and wait until we could get a suite, but my 14yo really wants to do this Med. cruise.

So, if hubby decides to do this (our quote for the 6 of us in 2 cat 5s was a bit over $23K), there will be me (turning 43 on that cruise), hubby (42), a 15yo daughter, 11yo son, 8yo daughter, and 6yo son.

We'll know for sure tomorrow.

Hey All! I found you Judy! We're all booked for the 6/16 cruise -- category 6, got pretty close to the cabin I asked for, even!

It will be my DH (47), me(45), and DS(11 then). I'm so glad to see everyone going. I've been on one other DCL, and there were NO Dis'ers on board that I could see or contact on the boards.

Glad to see some Texans. We're no longer there, but we spent a good long time in Austin, and we still love it.

There was some discussion of flights. We've been looking and seen that flights to London are SOOOO much cheaper, with flights from London to Barcelona being very inexpensive. We might spend a night in London on the way over, and then spend a week or so in the UK on the way back. That way we can take advantage of those lower fares. It's an idea.

Can you imagine how long this board will be in a year? :teeth:

So Glad to be booked.
Like many others I got up on Tuesday morning at 5:00 am (California time) and started dialing. I also tried and tried online. After several hours I was happy to have a category 4. :confused3
We really hoped for at least a category 3 like we had when we last sailed on the magic.
Well... Now I can look forward to visiting the med and have another reason to sail again and get that cat 2.

Time to start researching the places we'll see. For some it'll be "Rome"antic but for all it will "Nice" (I can't believe nobody used those yet) :cool1:
Look forward to meeting everybody

Hi everyone and welcome from a bright but unseasonally cold England.
This will be our second Disney cruise. We booked last year on the Western that was diverted to Eastern because of the Wilma problems. Absolutely loved it and could find no fault with anything.

Just my husband and I this year - two adult daughters joined us last year.
Will be great to visit some of our old haunts in Italy - My first trip abroad many years ago was to Italy a place named Sestri Levante not too far from Pisa.

Our planning to fly to Barcelona the day before the cruise and are at present looking at hotels for that night. Will be great when we know more and what time we can embark on the day of sailing.

Cannot wait to get my feet on that deck again.

This will be our 2nd Disney Cruise. We were on the California cruise last June and had a great time.

Good Morning Everyone and welcom to all the DISers who have joined our cruise!!!

I think a tag line for our cruise sounds great, but we better do it quick before others think of it. I'm not very creative but I'll help as most as possible.

I like the idea of "Club Med" so how about - "Disney's Club Med" or "Mickey's Club Med" I told you I wasn't very creative. :teeth:

OK, I just gave DU my credit card info to book our rooms. Still hoping somebody in a suite needs to switch dates or something... I'm going to miss that suite!

Now, to figure out the cheapest airfare from California to Barcelona.....

Anyone know what kind of rates that Grand Marina hotel has? Every date I search says there are no available rooms.

My thoughts for our tag line:

Magic in the Mediterranean
"Sea"ing the Med with Mickey
Making Magic in the Mediterranean
Jmcdonnell, my foot is back to normal. Keeping my fingers crossed that this cruise doesn't get messed up by injury like the last one. I feel like I need a do-over!

Hi everyone. I wonder if the cruise is sold out yet? Anyone gone on to check? My DS teacher said Barcelona is one of her favorite spots in the med. She said you have to try the Paella there. Lots of local artisans. Sounds beautiful.

We were on the 2nd week in California. All of good info came from the inaugural week cruisers. There was a lot of last minute excursion booking and cancelling. I do not remember the destination information on the website at all. How about anyone else? It really involved quite a bit of research amongst our group. Maybe we can divide and conquer. One good way we got info was from cruise critic from other lines who did that itinerary. We could atleast read some reviews of excursions.

Teresa thanks for the update. Hey you think if they sell out soon we could auction one of our rooms on ebay :lmao: :lmao: (not ours however)

LisaTex: We're thinking about doing a few stops in Europe, maybe Paris, maybe London. Very tentative at this time, but if Disney does an after cruise add-on to Paris, we'll probably be very interested.

Argh, did someone say Disney is thinking of using the Grand Marina Hotel? TripAdvisor.com has it listed at something like $400 a night. That has to be wrong.

I was listening to a Disney Podcast (WDW Today) and the guest was the women from Small World Vacations. She said that Disney will be coordinating a post cruise trip to DLP.

It's our plan to fly into Barcelona "on time", but take a few extra days at the end, take the train to Paris and do DLP and fly home from Paris.

My vote is for the tagline of "Magic in the Mediterranean".

It will be Pikey's first week back so we will have to give him a hard time. I think the cruise staff is all new to us from what I have read. I wonder who knows about all that stuff. Maybe Rachel or Brent? I have heard that Charles Marshall is on the Wonder right now so I will be missing them.

Willie---remember that the deposit is refundable. (Unless like we previously discussed you get a suite which you aren't. ) Just book it. After all it is a once in their teen year opportunity. Yes you could do it another time but they might not be still at home by then. I know what you mean about excursions because I love the beach too. However----I am sure they will have awesome tours. What about a winery tour or a beer tour? You know I have always wanted to go yet was kind of overwhelmed by the choices of where to go and where to stay. This is great because you still get to come back to your predictable room and food ( alright in some cases maybe that isn't a selling point) THINK PALOS!!!!!! You will still see those same friendly faces of the staff after your day ashore. Still have your private bath although it is small atleast it is private. A cruise is the way to go. I felt the same way about the Mexican riviera. It was great doing it from a cruise. Wouldn't want to go and actually stay a week at any of those ports but Cabo. Besides ----I think we can create enough DIS activities to keep you happy. Why don't you surprise Kelli and the girls???? It would make a great Christmas present. Ok..........I'm off my sales soapbox.......whew I feel better

Hi Everyone,

How about The Magical Med cruise or has that been decided. Think really it needs an itialian type of theme as Italy is always full of fun and romance so they say.

Hi Silver 7 sorry this time difference between our countries can be a pain.
We are from The Isle of Sheppey in Kent where are your friends from?

Unless anyone knows to the contrary are we the only Brits on this cruise?

Does anyone know if you can book the hotel reservation direct with Disney and if so assume they will arrange shuttle.

Understand that many of the hotels do not have their 2007 prices in yet and that is probably why they are showing no availability. I spoke to one company yesterday and she confirmed this.

Anyway will have a look at the hotel Grand Marina and see what I can find out.

Anyone any idea why we are sailing from Barcelona so late in the day and what time can we expect to Board. Will be so frustrated hanging about for too long.

windermerejudy
04-07-2006, 11:29 AM
Brenda you are doing better than I am because I have not even seen the itinerary times just the stops. .....

Usually on normal cruises-the last cruise worth of passsengers gets off starting at 7 am and the last stragglers at 9:30-10:00. They begin cleaning and preparing the ship for the next cruise as soon as you are out of your room. They only have a few hours to turn the ship around. In the meantime passengers are allowed in to the terminal and check in at 10 am. Usually boarding begins at around noon. Once you get on, lunch is being served and you make any last minute reservations you might need to make. At 3pm they do the life boat drill and that has to be done before they leave port. They have a deck party that starts around 4 and then sailing begins at 5 promptly. I hope that explains why they leave so late. Boarding early helps you to take advantage of the day you paid for and meet up with friends.

Hi Windermerejudy - know the usual cruises leave about 5.p.m. but the Barcelona time for departure is sometimes hsown as 9.30 p.m. and other times at 10.p.m. which does seem late.

Just wondering if we can still get aboard at the earlier time and get settled in.

If you go onto he Eurostar train site I think you can research prices from paris. Will have a look and post back if you can.

If you want to do Eurostar from London to Paris the site www.Eurostar.co.uk gives you times and prices. It is not that cheap as we know from experience and sometimes the flights are better value.

If anyone is thinking of Paris to Barcelona I have found a site which gives time and prices for this year. Fastest journey time is about 8 hours according to the site and can be found at www.railbookers.com.

If anyone finds out any more information please post also details about the hotel and how we can book.

I think we'll fly into Barcelona two days early and stay at a small hotel I've found there. (Can't book yet, and I'm waiting to see what Disney offers.) But I don't think we'll stay at the Eurostar Grand Marina if that's what Disney chooses. It just looks too big and overpriced.

I'm doing some research on cab service and fares in Barcelona, and it looks like it won't be a huge problem to get from a hotel that is a mile away from port to the port.

We are trying to decide on what to do pre-cruise. Need to watch pennies so even though we would like to tour around for a week ahead, more than likely it will be just a few days. Also, I need to get back to NY IMMEDIATELY after the cruise ends. What a bummer.

We had thought about flying into London (Cheaper than Barcelona?), staying a few days and then getting an inexpensive flight to Barcelona. Does this sound logical? Another place that we would like to go is Venice--but would be more costly.

Any thoughts? What do we need to budget for airfare from NY?

I can't believe that I am so worried about the details this far in advance!

[QUOTE=silver7]I think we are going to come in a couple of days early also. I have never flown overseas before--is jet lag bad?

Good morning everyone.

Peronally I find that jet lag takes about a week when I get home to get my body back into its routine, always put this down to depression at coming back to reality.

We are thinking of flying in the day before and flying straight back home after the cruise. We made the mistake last time of staying on after leaving the ship and were so depressed should have left the day after.

As we will this time only have a couple of hours flight that is not too bad.

Personally would choose Venice over Paris any day and am still surprised Disney did not incorporate this into their trip. From what I have heard Disneyland Paris is really not worth the trip when you have been to the real thing in Florida. Can recommend a great hotel at Lido de Venice we stayed there last year and it has its own launch direct to Venice. Dont know about cost as our daughters treated us for our wedding anniversary.

Still very cold here although bright think Spring has forgotten us again and understand some places are still getting snow. At least we got a bit of rain last night but not nearly enough to beat the draught orders.

No more Brits on this trip yet?

Okay, I have some ideas I want to throw out there so you guys let me know what you think.

1. Cruise list with - names & ages, where you live, cabin # on cruise, dinner seating, and birthday's or anniversary's so we can celebrate them over the next year.

2. List of plans for everyone before and after the cruise - that way if some of us are going to be in the same areas maybe we can meet up there.

3. On our Christmas cruise we tried to link all the late & early diners so that we had tables in the same dinning room and all our tables were near each other. We also sat with other DISer's if we wanted so it was a lot of fun.

4. We tried to plan several DIS meets while on board and some before we cruised for those staying in the same hotel.

5. On one of the sea days we booked the private dinning room in Palo for brunch. I believe it will hold about 14 people so it would have to be a first come first serve, but we could do this once or twice if possible.

That's all I can remember for now from the Christmas cruise. We had so much fun and it was like these people were great friends before we even met on the cruise.

What does everyone think?

Good Morning!

I was just thinking the same thing Lelani! The Dis people made the Turkey cruise so much more fun-- You always had a friend around every corner!

The weather here in England is still bitterly cold and not far away they had snow last night.

It would be great to meet up with other members on the cruise tried to do this on our last cruise but things went wrong as we should have been going Western but because of Wilma were Eastern and things got changed.
Never mind we will have 4 more days to do things this time seven days really is not enought is it.

We have chosen early seating as we do not eat late at home. Will be having a wedding anniversary just a coupleof days before the cruise so can hang on and celebrate while sailing away into the sunset.

Wonder if the sailaway party will be after both dinner sittings would seem logical as they are leaving so late.

Lots of unknown things at the moment so will have to research the Italian ports myself. Give me something to do when I get up so early.

Brenda - We will be celebrating our 10yr anniversary during the cruise. Which is one of the reasons I picked that cruise. We also got engaged in Paris and thought it would be fun to take the kids there after the cruise. DH does not have any interest in going to DLP. If the kids find out about DLP, he might have to rethink things. We also went to London before Paris during our engagement trip and I had a great time there.

All the plans sound wonderful. We'll be on early dining since we're kind of wimpy about staying up really late.

The cruise is our 25th anniversary present to one another. (We really got married when we were only 12! ;) :rotfl: ) Seriously, though, showing our ages and all, it will also be during my 46th birthday. Double the fun, huh?

We're hoping to go to Paris for a short stay (maybe two days) after the cruise and then on to the UK for a longer stay. (We've promised our son a trip to Alton Towers, and I could probably spend a month in England -- I'm an English teacher, but I swear that shouldn't scare anyone away! :goodvibes I think it'll be more like a week, though.)

Can't wait to see what everyone is planning. I thought the wait would be so hard, but it might not be after all.

DVC4US... nice to see someone else from the upper midwest going!!
but am I only guy posting here :hyper2:

matty204 - when you first posted I thought to myself we should try to meet up before we cruise next June. We tend to go to MOA a couple times a year so maybe we can work something out.

I think there are a few other guys lurking, just not posting, but we love to have the men join in.

My DH barely knows how to turn a computer on, let alone get on the internet. :confused3 Plus he is too busy working and paying for all our trips(his words not mine) ;) so I just do all the planning, research, and chatting for him. :surfweb:

We will be staying at OKW arriving on Sunday, June 4th and departing on Saturday, June 10th. Our daughters finish school on Thursday, June 1st. We will start the 16 hour drive on Saturday. This will be the first time that it is just the four of us. Normally, we have a family or friends with us so it will be good to have time together. We purchased the AP this year and have already booked a long weekend trip in early December. WDW is amazing when decorated for the Holidays.

Have just received a reply from Disney and they quote the following hotels:-

Disney Cruise Line offers pre- and/or post-nights the following hotels in Barcelona:

AC Barcelona
Grand Marina Hotel
Hesperia Presidente
Hilton Diagonal Mar
Hotel Atenea Mar

Dont know what this will come out like. Because we booked through Dreams Unlimited we have to contact them direct for assistance in booking.
No prices quoted.

Just wonder if anyone has spoken to Disney and found out the prices for the hotels they are arranging in Barcelona. Would love to ask but feel with all the hanging on to get to customer services it might cost more than the hotel price just in telephone calls.

Wish they would give us a toll free number as DVC do I do not think it would be abused but would be so helpful.

Brenda - thanks for the hotel information. I have to call DCL tomorrow about some other things so I will see if I can find out about hotel pricing. My guess would be that they do not have pricing yet, because even the hotels do not have prices up for next June. A quick search on Hotels . com would only let me look one year out. I will let you know what DCL has to say tomorrow.

Brenda (and anyone else who wants the information)

I finally got a chance to call DCL and the CM(Paul) gave me the same hotels that you have. He said they are on the website but we couldn't find them. His suggestion was to do some research on each hotel then call for pricing. He said they did have pricing(which surprises me unless they probably made a deal with the hotels and blocked off rooms) but you would need to call with the dates you want and the hotel to determine pricing. I have listed the hotels below with the websites that he gave me. I put in spaces just in case so take them out.

2 hotels equivalent to a US 5 star hotel

Hilton Diagonal Mar www. diagonalmarbarcelona. hilton.com
Grand Marina Hotel www. grandmarinahotel. com

3 hotels equivalent to a US 4 star hotel

AC Barcelona www. ac-hotels. com(This website takes you to a main page for these hotels. I had to change the language first(lower left hand corner) and then I chose hotel search.

Hesperia Presidente www. hesperia-presidente. com
Hotel Atenea Mar www. bchoteles. com/atenea_in. htm

Hope this information helps everyone.

Phoned Hilton - we do have a free number for that here in England and they quoted me a price for a double room for the Diagonal Mar of Euro 380 plus 7% tax.

Hope Disney can beat these prices and perhaps offer half board or at least bed and breakfast deals.

We have also been to Italy quite a few times as we love the country and also am awaiting information from the Italian Tourist Board.

Have also been to France and quite a time ago actually got a parking ticket in Monte Carlo.

Can also probably help with a bit of information on the areas especially when I get the literature from the tourist board.

What is everyone thinking on the hotels in Barcelona? Except for the Grand Marina, they're really NOT right next to the port, as far as I can see. There seem to be quite a few small, nice hotels closer, and in some of the "touristy" areas of Barcelona. I am looking at a place called Casa Camper that is about 2 kilometers from the port In the Barri Gothic area and near Las Ramblas. I wish there was a way to know more about the areas of Barcelona (safety wise) and the availabity of cab fare, etc. It might be nice to stay somewhere that was "in the middle" of things. But I want to be able to get to the ship easily. What are you thinking?

Julie

Skallywag

Would still like to know what Disney have planned transport wise in Barcelona.
Las Ramblas area apparently is not really the place to walk after dark so I have been told and becomes very noisy and in some places is the red light district. They advise after dark to take cabs back to hotels.

I suppose it all depends on how long you are planning on staying in Barcelona prior to the cruise.

If we were staying any length of time would definitely hire a car and go further afield.

Happy Easter holidays everyone - must lose weight and not even been tempted by easter eggs this year.

Still cannot find any prices regarding hotels in Barcelona on Disney site but assume they will negotiate a reasonable deal.

We booked through DU and have transfers... but I don't know what that entails right now. I suppose it is probably something still being worked out. This trip is becoming a little scary, with all the unknowns: international travel, jet lag, hotel stays...

Skallywag

Hi - we booked through Dreams Unlimited also and wonder what information you have about transfers. As these from the airport or just hotel to port.

Am awaiting information about hotels from DU also.

Have visited your country about 14 times now and it is not too scary this international travel bit. This time will be a frist for us as we only have a short flight. Incidentally find the short flights can be more tiring than long-haul as you dont seem to get time to relax and just have to keep going.

4kidsandadog
04-15-2006, 11:23 AM
I'm guessing these are from the airport.... I really am clueless. We've always booke our own transfers from airport/hotel/port when sailing out of Port Canaveral. I guess I'll find out more later. I'll have to ask our agent. Seeing as we don't have flights or rooms booked, I imagine there won't be much info.

Have just received any email from Dreams unlimited who have been in contact with Disney who say they have sold out of their allotment of hotels in Barcelona for pre-cruise. Feel this is very bad of Disney as have not seen this advertised at all. They can offer transport at $59 per person from airport to hotel then port and back to airport.

Obviusly unless we can get a hotel serviced by the transport this is not going to be any use.

Has anyone else received this information and can clarify with Disney what on earth is going on.

I have a weird question. I have not traveled extensively in Europe. (I have been to Spain once, but it was with a pre-arranged tour group of 12 and 13 year olds. I didn't have to make any of the hotel arrangements myself.) Why do so many European hotels not have (or at any rate, not list) rooms with two beds? Certainly Europeans have and travel with their children. Where do the children stay? I have found that virtually all of the hotels that Disney has listed as their hotels of choice don't have rooms with two beds (or at least say they don't on the web). ??????????? Where am I going to put my 11 year old son? :confused3

Thanks for letting me sound stupid for a moment.

I just called DCL to find out pricing and here is what I got. I wanted 2 nights - June 14th & 15th and after looking the CM came back and said she was surprised but all their rooms are sold out. She did say I could put in a wait list request and then 24 to 48 hours from now someone with DCL would call me back and let me know what they found and how much it would be. This last comment was a little confusing because it sounded like they would check to see if they could get me a room and then call me back. I think I will do a little looking on my own on Monday. I might have to call the hotels, because I know none of them will show dates past April 2007 on their web sites. I will let you know what I hear from DCL, but it sounds like we might be on our own for hotels.

Many hotels in Europe have what they call family rooms and we have used these when we have travelled with the grandchildren.

Found a web site for hotels yesterday when I was searching and it is [url]http://barcelona.iberialodging.com and they list rooms with 2 and 3 beds in Barcelona-
Hope this helps. Found this site when searching and it came up on Iberia Airlines so should be o.k.

We're thinking of booking Casa Camper. It sounds really nice (and like a nice way to get to see a little of Barcelona). I'm a little worried about the area, though. El Raval is billed as an area that "has benefitted from urban renewal." So, what does THAT mean? It looks (from the reviews) as though it is in a relatively safe area, but the guide books I have looked at have clearly said that this is an area "in transition." Go figure. We are thinking about booking it anyway. (It's only about 2 kilometers from the port -- a lot closer than some of the hotels that Disney is putting on its list.) If we need to take a cab places, I guess that will be okay.

How about if we organize and all stay there? Then we can share cabs and do the safety in numbers thing???

I also called Hilton yesterday. The person I spoke with told me to basically call back in June because you cannot book this far in advance. She was not very helpful. DCL must not have blocked very many rooms for them to sell out so quickly. Oh well. Time to get the kids up for school.

So the room and rate you book may or may not be available when the time comes to travel. I hope that makes sense. I will try the 1-800-hiltons # tomorrow. Maybe it just depends on who you get on the phone. Are you booking more than 1 room? My kids will be 6 and 8. It seems silly that the rooms will only accomadate 2 adults and 1 child. Good morning everyone from ~England.

Wonder why everyone seems rather afraid of booking through the UK website we have booked things on the US site many times and as long as you get the print off receipt and keep that what really can go wrong. Prices also have been quoted on another board they are:-
Hilton $295
AC Barcelona $270

It also states that if you have not booked with dVC for flights then ground transportation will increase by $9. Anyone else heard this one.

Carol - I got confirmations from Hilton today so hopefully the rooms are booked. I will probably check again in June just to make sure. I really want the 14th and 15th but could only book the 15th so I might keep looking at other hotels. I am also interested in the Grand Marina because it looks pretty cool. We went ahead and booked 2 rooms. With our kids we usually have to do this anyway because they can't seem to sleep together so it's just easier.

Brenda - I was just a little nervous booking on the UK site because I am in the States. I didn't want it to kick out my reservation because I was not in the UK, so that is why I called instead. I have seen the same information you have on some other posts. It sounds like if you asked DCL about hotels & transportation then it was placed on your reservations and you got a room. I didn't even think to ask at the time of booking because I didn't think it would be a problem, but I guess I was wrong. If I end up staying at one of the hotels DCL recommends then I might check into transportation, otherwise we will just figure it out on our own.

Was anyone asked at the time of booking if you were interested in pre/post hotel stay or transportation? I know we weren't.

I had a great thought but my DH nixed it. I thought we could fly into London for a couple of days. Then take the train to Paris for a 2-3 days and then on to Barcelona and the cruise. DH said he could not take a 3 week vacation. Like I said just a thought.

Hi Carol,

Just checked the hilton uk site again and one of their hotels still has availability on the night of the 15th if that is any help to you.

Thanks Brenda! I just booked 2 rooms at the Hilton Barcelona for the night of the 15th. Not sure why I was so nervous. The rate is almost double for Friday night than Saturday night. Crazy!

Good morning everyone from ~England.

Wonder why everyone seems rather afraid of booking through the UK website we have booked things on the US site many times and as long as you get the print off receipt and keep that what really can go wrong. I dont know why the British site is showing availability that far ahead you really would think it would be all the same but I did check also and it is quite right in what you say.

Julie any chance you would p.m. or let me have the email contact for the Grand Marina - inspite of many emails and even a fax have received nothing.
Many thanks and happy hotel hunting.

Brenda,
Sorry it took so long. It's been a lonnnggg week! I'm going to try to post the email I received:

Dear Mrs Wentworth,

thank you for your request, we regret to inform you that our rates for
2007 will be ready around September October this year.

We will be pleased to contact you again and offer you availability
around that time of the year.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you need further assistance.

Looking forward to welcome you at the Grand Marina Hotel,

Hey! It worked! For what it's worth.

I'm betting that we're seeing "rooms booked" because they aren't available yet. I think hotels show rooms as "unavailable" when they aren't on the computer yet. But who knows?

If it comes down to it, we'll fly into London for a few days and then fly from London to Barcelona the day before the cruise. I'm thinking there will be plenty of rooms available in London. :-) It's a win/win situation.

GOOOOOOOOD FRIDAY MORNING(OR AFTERNOON) EVERYONE!

Brenda - you are right it is strange about the hotels. :scratchin I have to agree with you about at least having the one night booked and then looking at other options later. Hopefully I will have the hotels figured out when it's time to book flights. I want to book those at the 330 day mark if possible so I can get the best fare.

I have too many other trips between now and then to be this stressed over a trip that is over a year away. I guess I will just go with the flow and figure it out later. :thumbsup2

Happy Friday to Everyone!

We are all obsessive compulsive planners and we all would have our shore excursions and Palo dinners booked if we could. I'm sure all of our plans will work out at the 11-12 month window.

We have three trips to Disneyworld before the cruise to plan since we opted to buy an Annual Pass for the first time. The waitlist just came thru yesterday for Trip # 1 in June so now we are staying at the Boardwalk instead of Old Key West. We are also trying the Disney Dining package for the first time so it will be nice to be close to Epcot to try several excellent dinners at the World Showcase. Trip # 2 is in December for a 4 day weekend to go see the parks decorated for Christmas, the Candlelight Processional, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party and our first stay at the Grand Floridian (putting those DVC points to good use). Trip # 3 will be during Spring Break in April (waiting for the 11 month window to book a GV at OKW).

Good evening from beautiful Houston!

I am asking the cruise line each time I speak to them (which is about 2-3 times a day) about the hotels but nothing new. . .

We will be shooting for the Marina but are still waiting for the Casa Camper. :hourglass

I think we are going to go back to WDW in November (Have points must travel!) for Thanksgiving. DS is starting college and will only be able to meet up with us for a few days, but it will be fun!

Is anyone else going then?

Thinking on the hotels and feel that some of them are very expensive for the times we are going. Weeks around that time are much cheaper and wonder if they are pushing the prices up as they know Disney cruisers will need accommodation.

Have you heard anything from Casa Camper? I think we'll follow your lead and shoot for Grand Marina but book at Casa Camper. It looks like a fun place.

But, if we can't get them to answer our emails, it doesn't make any difference, huh? :)

The meets sound fun. I'd like to try one family meet if possible so we can let some of the kids meet up, too. I've never been on a cruise with other Dis'ers. :wizard:

In the mean time, we're off on other adventures this summer. We're going on a rollercoaster adventure early in the summer -- Cedar Point and Busch Gardens Williamsburg with a stop in Washington DC in between, and, of course, a quick trip down to Disney late in the summer.

Only 19 more days of school. Yes!!! (Who says teachers don't count???)

Hi Julie

I sent two emails to Casa Camper and did not hear back. I love the look of the place but am a little uneasy about the lack of response.

With the our last cruise we Dis'board Turkey Cruisers had matching shirts (or just lime green ones) so we could easily spot each other in the terminal.

We then hung out for the sail away party, had a luncheon at Palo, and high tea scheduled. We usually met for the themed nights which were just a hoot--especially since our group usually got picked for the participants--

We could arrange that type of thing again (I did not do the arranging, just the attending :rotfl2: ) Since we have 3 days at sea it would be easy enough. :sunny:

Has anyone thought about meets on the cruise? PALOS, tea, themed nights in the clubs--we had such a ball on our Turkey cruise doing them!

We did this on our Christmas cruise and had a really great time. We actually had T-shirts made up so we could all wear them on the first day. We also had several meets including one before the sail away party and one where we took over half of Palo. We also had a wine party one afternoon. We booked Sessions for a special event and everyone brought a bottle or two of wine and we ordered up some food and had a really nice time. Even if people didn't drink wine they still came for the get together. The other thing we did that was really fun was to request the same dinning rotation and we linked all of our reservations together so we would be at tables in the same area. This was a lot of fun and it was great to have your friends dinning around you. If anyone is interest in doing some of these things I would be willing to organize some or all of them.

On one of the sea days we will also be having a DIS-meet in our cabin. If we get to many people, we might do it like an open house for a short time period.

Theresa - yes, we had the wine event in Sessions in the afternoon. We picked a sea day and reserved for 3:30 or 4:00. Like I said before everyone brought a bottle or two of wine and we just mingled and tasted some wine and got to know the other DISers a little better. It really was a lot of fun.

Please thank you so much for the updates to our page music is great but how do I stop it?

Dont worry I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Received a page of literature from the Itialian State Tourist Department in London so am going through it. They have also sent a great map of Rome and Naples with tourist ideas. I see they do an open top bus trip around rome I think it does about 15 km in 90 minutes around the sites. Dont know if it is the sort you can hop on and off but will keep investigating.

If anyone has any specific questions I may be able to look them up and report back.

The music has really cheered me up on what is a very grey drab monday morning here in England. Promises of sunshine later but will not hold my breath on that one. Someone must be getting our share.

Teresa,

Many thanks - I was so excited hearing the music just kept letting it play.

Do hope we can all meet up somewhere on the cruise. This was arranged for our Western which went East because of Wilma last year and unfortunatley did not get to meet up with anyone as everything changed.

Had a great time still but it would have been nice. A lady made us beautiful badges and delivered to my room but did not leave her room number so that did not help.

The webpage is looking great! I'm hoping we get more people to join in. I'd really like for my oldest son (he'll be 11 1/2 on the cruise) to meet someone ahead of time he could hang with on the ship. On our last cruise this past September, he wouldn't stay in the club too much, which made it hard for my husband and me to do much besides keep him company. (It didn't help that I broke my foot 3 days into the cruise, either.)

JulieWent
04-24-2006, 05:13 PM
Karen,
My son will also be 11 1/2 when we cruise. His last cruise, he, too, didn't spend a lot of time in the organized activities. I felt like it would have been so much nicer for him if he had had someone to hang out with, but he's not one of those kids who immediately goes out and meets people. So... the clubs weren't a good place for him to make new friends.
He's trying to learn a little Spanish so he can speak to people in Barcelona (but it sounds like many of the people in Barcelona would rather that we speak Catlan(?)). I think Spanish is all he's up to -- with a few words of French and Italian thrown in, of course.
What dinner seating are you doing? I haven't sent our information in to the website yet, mostly because I'm lazy. (I'm a teacher and it's the end of the school year. Crazinesssss.)
Anyway, I'd love for our sons to "meet up" on the web before we go. DS is extremely interested in rollercoasters. Has your son been on any of the big California coasters? That would be a great starting conversation. DS is ALWAYS asking, "When can we go to CA to try some coasters out there?" (I like to remind him that flying to California just to ride roller coasters is a little extreme.)
Gotta run. Time to make dinner. Can't wait for EVERYTHING!

We also were checking for hotels and were shocked by the prices. Should we be worried?

Also concerned by the airfare. We had budgeted $800 pp. Don't know if we can do it for that.

What are others thinking about airfare prices? Hotel prices? We know that there are lots of other hotel options. Panic time yet?

Bill

04-24-2006, 08:32 PM
Hi Bill,

I don't think it's panic time yet because it is hard to compare prices when you can't pull anything up for June 2007 yet. I would give it some time and see what the prices are when we can check exact dates. I alo think there are plenty of nice hotels out there that will be cheaper than the ones DCL chose. If you do a search on expedia you can get really good information and reviews on the hotels.

DVC4US
04-24-2006, 08:44 PM
Hi again Bill,

I just did a quick search on tickets and like I said it is hard to determine prices for next June. A ticket out of NYC to Barcelona in June 2006 was around $900, but a ticket on the same route in March 2007 was $550. One reason the June ticket is more expensive is because it is so close. I think the important thing with airfare is to check prices when they come available to book which is 330 days out. That is what I plan on doing. Hope this helps some.

I just found this thread and my family and I are going to be on the 11 night cruise on June 16th. My name is Lauren and I am a 20 year old Early Childhood Education major in college right now. On the cruise it will be my parents (DVC members), my 2 sisters (ages 23 and 16) and of course me! We are in 2 category 6 staterooms, I don't know the numbers off the top of my head. We are really excited for this cruise as we have never been out of the country before!

Hi Lauren!

Just PM your info to me and the webmaster (ds) will put it on our website.

Bill, I had no idea what to expect for airfare, I just know that when I was checking for air from Houston this summer it was running about 1,300 PP. I was only checking non stops so maybe that makes a difference. :confused3

You will have to take into account the season as the airfares and hotels I think will be more expensive from June until September and in particular late July and August due to school holidays.

We are thinking if the hotels in Barcelona are very high priced will just fly down on the morning. Would rather not as you never know with flights cancelled and delays etc so will wait and see what prices come out later.

Flights from uk to Barcelona are not too expensive so this year for the first time we do not have that problem.

I know we cannot book any flights until the 11month mark but have made enquiries about doing this from LGW to Barcelona on air miles and that seems quite a good deal for us. I notice that Delta site also offers Hotels in Barcelona but nothing showing up yet for the time we need them. Just a thought for anyone from your side of the world if they are thinking of booking direct flights with Delta.

Skallywag

Have been looking on the uk airmiles website and they are showing availability and prices for most of the good hotels in Barcelona for this June and they are half what we are being quoted for next year. Do feel they perhaps have got wind of Disney coming and are pushing the prices up a bit. Could be wrong and hope so but we will have to wait and see what a similar site shows for next year and cannot do that for a couple of months.

Also remember that the World Cup Soccer tournament is this summer in Europe (germany to be axact). Co-workers of mine that live in Europe have said this has significantly impacted all airline ticket prices all over Europe for this summer.

Maybe by next summer things will be back to normal!!

I finally got a reply back from DCL regarding the hotels in Barcelona. He told me that the block of rooms they had reserved had sold out really fast. They are putting people on a waitlist and they are trying to contact the hotels to see if they can get more rooms. He said I would get a call back once they determine what they can do.

So I would say if you are interested in the hotels that DCL has put out, then go ahead and call and put your name on a waitlist. I am still going to look at other options, but at least this is a back-up.

I did tell him I wasn't real happy with the way this was handled. I was one of the first people to book on this cruise and I was never told anything about hotel rooms, and when I finally found out about them, they were sold out. The only thing he said was that DCL was not proactive about the rooms.

I quite agree that Disney have mishandled the hotel portion of their bookings as this was definitely not on their web site. Have received confirmation of our booking today and it states we have declined ground transfer - that was never an option either and wonder if anyone else has seen this on the site or perhaps did I miss it.

I know that we couldnot book our flights through Disney - it really would not be worth it for us but transport - Oh well will just have to get a taxi or see if the hotels have their own transport available.
