THE UPGRADE FAIRY GIVITH AND THE UPGRADE FAIRY TAKETH AWAY!!!

OK, so here goes the rest of the story!!!!

I had called the TA Saturday due to a change in our departure time. We will be flying out Thursday not Friday, unless the Airline changes their mind again. So since I was on the phone, I asked how cheap is it to upgrade this late in the game. Blah, blah, still too much for my budget. Well somehow, the disney rep that they talked to, put in the upgrade. GREAT RIGHT! So this is the upgrade I saw yesterday. BAD NEWS! Disney also went ahead and billed my credit card for the upgrade and set confirmation to the TA. TA caught it and called today to say no harm, I would be put back in my cat 7!

I'm so depressed. This is after I went to work today and told everyone!

I'm still on the ship, right? I should just let it go?

I'm trying but boy is it tough.

Hello friends. Sorry I've been so absent. Real life took over. I'm not going to try to read back, anyone want to give me a brief synopsis? Did I miss anything? :)

THANKS for all the work you did for the brunch! :woohoo: Very gracious of you! Oh, & thanks to your "peeps" too!

On a side note, tomorrow Disney Lover Linda, her DH (my DB), myself & her family head to Peek 'N Peak resort for a week. We are staying in a ski-in-ski-out chalet with a fireplace! Yeah, I know there is no snow but WOW what views! I'm more the apres ski person anyways! (very after!) It's in Clymer, NY near Jamestown.

Not near as nice as going on the Med Cruise but that is coming!:woohoo:

Sue

P.S. I'm taking my laptop so I can still look @ the Dis Boards!

TDE1969 -- I was elated to hear about your good fortune before I left work and sad to hear about the misunderstanding. I hope that you will be surprised again -- keep the faith.

PrincessJasmine -- welcome back. I hope you are done with school so you can get back to planning this cruise. Looking forward to meeting you but after reading your trip report, I will have to keep my daughters away from you and your sister.:rotfl: Just joking... it will be great to meet people with as much passion for "all things Disney".

Welcome back lauren...we all missed you!:cool1:
Short list...planning a dinner on friday night in barcelona. Jodie (pillow) is doing the work.
Still planning to lunch on board. People just need to post if they are interested. Looking at 1:30ish on saturday.
All who are in barcelona and can are going to storm the port between 11-12 in our lovely medhead t-shirts and make all the other passengers jealous! :rotfl:
Brunch in the secret room looks full, but you can pm theresa(silver7) to see if there is space.
27 days until I leave. So excited to see the 6/6 are getting their docs.
We should be seeing ours in a week or 2!:woohoo:

Marie- I saw your post re:credit cards. I have done alot of research. Capital One is the best that I have found as it's free. No foreign transaction fee, just the exchange rate. Next best should be most credit unions. I have checked with mine (patelco) and they are at 1%. They told me that their co-operative CU's have 1% (most, said to call to verify) I didn't need to as I have patelco. This includes their ATM fee to w/d foreign money. Lastly are the standard credit cards. Check with the ones you have. Most are 2-3% on top of the exchange rate.
Most american express offices have currency exchange. Their rates are terrible and they chare $5.00 for amx holders and $15.00 flat fee for non amx holders.
According to DCL Customer service they are going to have exchange available on board with no transaction fee and since they do not accept cash on the ship it's supposed to show as a charge on your credit card. Which is great. However I don't really believe it until I see it. Which is why I asked the question..."how does it really work" on the live thread. I want someone to confirm. We'll see if we get that answer or not.

Jodie- I forgot that my mothers husband has a good friend who lives in barcelona. He has emailed him to find out the real deal on the restaurant and get some recommendations. Hopefully we'll hear something good. :surfweb:

Theresa- Thanks for the confirm. You have been so gracious.

In fact all of you have been great. You are all making this trip more exciting by the day!
Have a great night all.

Steph

All this talk is about the exchange rate IF you get money on the ship, not if you charge things like your final bill, right?

taysmom
05-17-2007, 08:56 PM
right..all charges on the ship are in american dollars.
However, they are offering currency exchange on the med cruises. The question at hand is ...is it a cash advance on your credit card or a charge?
Customer Service says it's a charge, but the reason she told me that was "it's just like all other charges done on the ship. You'll get your card charged at the end of your cruise" I dunno...sounds too good to be true right. I can get cash in euros as a charge on my credit card. (Charged at the exchange rate..example I get 100 euros, shows as a $135.00 charge (not cash advance) on my bill.
Am I right to be wary????

Hi Tde1969,

Hey TDE1969

YOU ARE STILL GOING WITH US!!! Don't worry, be happy! Perhaps you will still get the upgrade.

PJ--Missed you!

I need to know if anyone has read anything about the following statement. I was looking on a online site for our local credit union and was surprised to find this:

Avoid the new 3% SURCHARGE when using your favorite credit card overseas on purchases*.
*Effective April 2, 2005, major credit card companies are now adding a 3% surcharge to all currency purchases made overseas. The charge is added to your regular monthly statement. It's always best to arrive in a country with some of the currency in your pocket.

Has anyone heard of this or is it just a ruse??

PS
it also says todays exchange rate is 1.452759, but on the XE conversion it shows 1.34758 USD. Which is right? Or is it just the fee added on to the transaction for the first rate?

pillow

Silver7, Yes, most credit card companies add on 2-3% of the US dollars spent as a surcharge. Taysmom and I have both done some research on this (check her post on previous page). :scared1:

Apparently Capital One has the best card (no surcharge), and most credit unions only charge 1% when you use their cards.

Also, I have found that the cheapest way to get cash is to use an ATM when you get to Europe. I plan on withdrawing money as soon as we get to the airport.

Steph, I'm a little skeptical about the exchange on the ship also. I find it hard to believe that Disney won't charge a surcharge when exchanging US dollars to Euros. However, if we charge things on the ship (wine, wine, and more wine for example) and pay with a credit card at the concusion of our cruise, it seems reasonable to me that it will be charged in US dollars on your credit card with no fees (just like when we cruise in the US).

If anyone else wants to join us for dinner (16 of us now) on Friday the 15th in Barcelona, please speak now, or forever hold your peace! I'm gonna make a reservation soon!!

I'm trying to find a tux for my husband. If anyone has one they'd like to sell, let me know (42R for jacket, 32-33 waist for pants). I've been checking e-bay but can't find his size. :sad1:

Teresa- Thanks for Palo Brunch! That is awesome.

Jodie and all- as for Credit cards a fee - and after living overseas for 8 years we also found out that some banks can charge a fee for using not their atm's (does that make sense). Did a withdrawal once and got hit with a $5 fee from Bank of america and another 2euro fee from the bank we took the money out from!! EEEK!

So, since Dh works for army - we have USAA- They Rock! No fees ever! And as for Euros I would stay away from airport exchanger and use ATM - Another thing we learned is using the credit card, even with the 3% fee, is better because their exchange rate is always the best. And you have fraud protection, etc.

Everyone just dont forget to contact CC company to tell them you are traveling overseas- you don't want to get fraud alerted and have card blocked. (which by the way Chase LOVES to do!!)

Less than 30 days!!! :)

I thought yall were talking about CASH advances on your CC, not using the CC!!!

I hate that!

PS
If anyone goes to ABC.com and looks at the Dancing with the Stars there is one of the top Flamenco dancers in Europe performing! Something to get us in the Barcelona mood!

Jodie,

I purchased a 100% wool tuxedo over the internet from www.tuxedodirect.com. For $ 149.00 you get tuxedo, shirt, and accessories.
I was very pleased with the their quality and service. They have the same deal now on the internet.

Hi Everyone--Happy Friday!

Only 4 more Fridays until we cruise! :cheer2:

Starting the diet yesterday--Linda we gotta talk. Need hints on making things taste better :rolleyes1

I spoke with Lee in Concierge this morning and we are all set up for the secret room! I tried to get tables for those on the waitlist (Wonder, Worktoplay and CarolMB) and was told to tell yall that you need to sign up on board. Well I tried! :confused3

Disneylover Linda and JMcDonnell I am waiting to hear back to see if we can transfer the reservation over. They THINK they can but have to have the Palo people do it.

I had a couple of heart stopping times. I emailed the list, then she called me and said "I cannot find this person, and this person cancelled". I am telling you my heart dropped that there might have been someone who got cancelled and did not know it! In the end everyone was there but SHEESH I was worried! :scared1:

Hope you all have a great day.

We're done with finals but now I'm taking summer classes. I switched majors twice so now I'm playing the catch up game! We also have a huge concert this weekend at the amphitheater at Keehner Park with my ballet performing group so rehearsals have been pretty crazy. And don't keep your kids away from us, let us corrupt 'em! Gotta start at an early age...

Here's the updated list for the Meet and Greet in the Roy Suite! If your cabin number or number of people in your party is incorrect please let me know. For those of you without cabin numbers I know you are still waiting on them, so just let me know when you are assigned a cabin. There have been a lot of changes in cabin numbers, so please check yours and make sure it is right. I want to leave reminders on Saturday night so it's important I have correct cabin numbers. Also if you get to the port and get/pay for an upgrade please call my cabin and leave your new number so the reminders are delivered to the correct cabin.

Okay, here is the list I have so far of plans for everyone. Please check it to make sure everything is correct and let me know if I need to add or change anything. If you did not list any excursion for a port I just listed you as "on your own". I would suggest not printing it yet in case there are additions or changes. Also, I have this in a word file so if you would prefer it that way I can email it to you. It's pretty long and I hope not too confusing. If anyone has any suggestions for changes just let me know.

Leilani,

Thanks for doing that, it looks like you put alot of hard work into it!

I'm think of you these days since my son's graduation party is Monday the
28th, I remember you'll be doing the same soon! It sure is alot of work...and a little sad watching your kids grow up.

Marie,

Yes, things are a bit crazy around here at the moment. I have several open houses to attend this weekend plus a soccer game for Alyssa here in about an hour. My parents arrive on Wednesday and then the rest of our company will be here Thursday and Friday. We have open house on Saturday, plus I will try to get to two other open houses that day. Then graduation is on Sunday and most of the company will leave on Monday. After that I will have more time to finish up plans for the trip. If I'm not on the boards much this week don't worry I will be back in full force a week from Monday.

Off to take care of some pictures. Have a great day!

Thanks for putting all this together...you really did a great job!! We will all need nametags with our DIS boards names so we will know who is who!! ha ha!! We changed our excursion in Palermo to Boat Ride to Zingaro Park. Sorry I should have told you sooner!!

LeiLani,

Sounds like your crazy time is a bit before mine. My son still hasn't had their senior prom, its not until June 1st. We're having his graduation party on May 28th just to space out the parties over a couple of weeks. He still has to attend classes until June 5th but mentally the whole class is finished with school - I think! They don't graduate until June 12th and 13th if it rains. So I'm going to be crazy busy and then get on a plane! Boy will I be ready!

Steph,

I tried to reply back to your post about the money exchange yesterday but I was on a different computer and the website didn't seem to think I knew my password! not lol I guess its best to at least use a card where you know the transaction fee will be small just in case you incur one. I tried to order euros at my bank but they wanted to charge me $15.00 just to ship them to the bank. I thought that was odd. I just don't want to wait until I get on the ship as I think the lines could be long the first day at sea with everyone wanting euros for the first port.

Can't wait to finally meet everyone!!!

LeiLani, Cary is my DS, not DD (happens a lot). Thanks for putting this together. It makes it easy to see who might be on an excursion with us.

Can't remember who was putting the list together for lunch on the 16th at 1:30, but count us in (4 of us). Where will lunch be?

When I saw Silver 7's post - 3 more Saturdays till sailaway, I almost started to hyperventilate. SO MUCH TO DO BEFORE THEN! :scared1:

3 Saturdays left...that can't be! I have to get my butt in gear!

Marie- I am bringing 3 cc's. 1 with 1% fee, 1 for the ship charges (american dollars so I'm getting my miles!) and my amx as a back up! Plus my atm card. Now...i just have to find it and get the pin and figure out which atms in europe i can use...hmm....I never use an atm so this will be interesting.

I have 40 euros. Thanks to my friend who just returned from paris. Got the best exchange! and will have 20 pounds soon as friends from england are coming in for graduations.
So that takes care of the walking around money. No rushing to find the atm here.
I also purchased a metro pass for barcelona so I don't have to figure out the cost for each ride!

I am coordinating the lunch. Don't know where it's going to be. I will post the list of people who are going a little closer. Please post if you are interested. I will contact dcl around june 1st to find out what lunch place will be open and let them know the amount of people.
I had already asked and they recomended calling after the first ship left the med. Make sure they had stuff together.:confused3

Thanks for the lists. I kinda want to change some excursions just so we have company. Thanks again for the brunch. When we board, I want to get to the palo line to book another dinner. I am a single so marie or anyone who wants to join on another day please let me know!
I will also try to get the tea..company is always appreciated!

OMG...3 saturdays. Jeez...I gotta get cleaning! Still need a cat sitter. Mail/paper have been taken care of, along with ride to the airport!

25 days until we leave SFO! :yay:

BTW...is anyone reading the davidson blog? they are cruising now on the repo and it's quite funny. BUT I saw on their comments that there is a group of 22 people who are on 6/16 cruise. We have our work cut out for us, as they know each other already! I didn't see a "polly" post here so I don't think it's anyone on this thread.
Polly if your lurking...post away... We'd love to meet you before!

Today is my daughters 9th birthday! :cool1: She's with her dad at some scottish games??? So I'm going to see waitress today! Heard good things about that movie. Love the independants!

Look forward to seeing you all. Have a great weekend.

Brittany has been out since 10:30 this morning just going to all the open houses she has been invited too. I glad it's her and not me.

Hi Steph - We would love to join everyone for lunch on Saturday (there are 4 of us).

LeiLani - You did a great job on the list. I hope that we can meet while in London.

My DD's birthday was last Saturday. She turned 6 and had a Batman party.
My kids last days of school are this week. My DD graduates from Kindergarden and her Montessori school on Tuesday and my DS is done with
3rd grade on Wednesday. We are going to Moody Gardens in Galveston for Memorial Day weekend and my friend wants me stay until Wednesday or Thursday. I told I have a major trip to get ready for. I still don't think that she understands.

I have decided to just wait and get pounds and euros once we get overseas.
My husband went and opened a Capitol One account yesterday. I still need to order my bag from Magellans and I am still looking for good and stylish walking shoe for the tours. Tomorrow is my last kid free day to go shopping.
So, wish me luck. I found my DS a pair of the zip off pants at Target. I need to get them hemmed though. I will use those when we go to Rome. I still need to take DD shopping for some more clothes. She is very picky and not into shorts. I told her that it will a hot summer. She just loves her pink camo pants.

It is hard to believe that the 1st 11-night starts on Saturday. Ours is just around the corner.

Brian and Barbara,

What are the odds that we select the same four excursions with so many to choose from but it will be great to have friends to stick together so we get back on the right train/bus/boat. My daughter Kathleen is just finishing up the 6th grade will be turning 12 on the cruise. We just got back from purchasing 2 dresses from Macy & Dillard's for the formal & semi-formal nights on the cruise. They grow up so quickly.:sad1:

My wife's friend from Indianapolis stayed over last night and she brought us a ton of information about Paris for our pre-cruise stay. Yeah, more research to do.

Thanks for the great work on the t-shirts -- we had some sizing problems so we will be ordering a couple more tonight. I have to get DMIL a shirt in return for her paying for the cruise. Sounds like a fair trade...:rolleyes1

If I had any money at all I would buy one of those shirts but as it is I spent it all on textbooks that I probably won't even read. They look great though! :thumbsup2

Just going to put this out there....does anyone else with teenagers going think it would be a good idea to set up a meet for them? I know my sister (she's 16) would never go to the teen club by herself and she would like to meet some people ahead of time she could go with. Maybe they could have a seperate table at the initial lunch meet?? I don't know, just thinking because I'd really like her to go to the club and have fun with some people her age.

Here's some info from my stepdads friend who lives in barcelona:
"First of all, Barcelona has all the normal American franchises like McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dunkin' Donuts, etc., etc. Also there are Spanish chains with food kids like--Pans comes to mind--a sandwich plus chain you see everywhere. The other thing is that Spanish food in general isn't spicy. I think Americans confuse it with Mexican food, and they aren't the same at all. There are a few Mexican restaurants in Barcelona, but even they aren't very spicy because Spaniards don't like spicy food. In Barcelona, the cuisine is Catalan and very simple--grilled meats and fish with minimal seasoning. So I bet they'll do okay.":thumbsup2

I have asked him to make recommendations for specific restaurants. But this is good to know for all of you worried about picky kids...I know I am!

And I am a dummy. There is a coworker of mine who is from italy. So he's helping me with some stuff, but he told me that for sardinia. The beaches are amazing. He said that sardinia is to italians as hawaii is to americans.

Hope this helps everyone.....

I know that the meet is sunday...I think around 3ish. Leilani is going to send out reminders on board.

So cruise #2 is getting ready to leave (5/26)! I have been lurking on their thread and alot of people are leaving wed/thurs/fri etc. I have already subscribed to their trip report thread and asked a couple questions.

Also, the balance of 6/6er's are getting their docs last week and today. So we should be next week! I can't believe how close...23 days until I board my flight!:cool1: :cool1:

Here is some more info from a barcelona resident. Jodie he gave some great recommendations for restaurants.

From Roger: (US Citizen living in barcelona and stephanie's "taysmom" stepdads friend)

Here are some recommendations. The "not to miss" thing in Barcelona is the architecture, especially the unfinished Sagrada Familia Basilica. Here's some notes I did recently for a visiting friend of a friend:

One good way to start out and get an overview of the city is the Bus Turistic. There's two lines, and you can hop on and off them wherever you like. For example, they take you past most of the art museums in Barcelona--the Picasso, Miro, Contemporary, etc. It's a great museum town. What many tourists want to see--and the Bus Turistic is a good way to start--is the modernista Architecture--Gaudi's unfinished Sagrada Familia (on the red line) and dozens of other fanciful and ornate buildings from the 1890s-1910s. The staff at your hotel can tell you how to catch the buses.

The largest upscale shopping area in town is the Passeig de Gracia, north of Plaza Catalunya. Your hotel will have a map. There's lots of other shopping areas, of course. The best bargain shopping is probably in the Old Town or Barrio Gotico next to the Rambla. The Rambla is the city's famous walking street, a walk you will want to take (it's another "not to miss" thing). If you are walking down the Rambla from Plaza Catalunya (the center of town more or less) towards the sea, the Old Town is to your left. The Gothic cathedral (different from the Sagrada Familia) is in the Old Town.

A few restaurants:

Pricey: Casa Calvet, Casp, 48, tel: 93 412 4012. Catalan food in a gorgeous Gaudi modernista building.
La Dama, Diagonal, 423, tel: 93 202 0686. Located in another beautiful modernista building.
Casa Dario, Consell de Cent 256, tel: 93 453 31 35. Great seafood.

Medium: Tragaluz, Pge de la Concepcio, 5, betw. Passeig de Gracia & the Rambla, tel: 93, 487 06 21. Go upstairs (there's a Japanese restaurant downstairs)
Cal Pep, Plaza de les olles 8, 93 tel: 310 79 61. Old town seafood. Tiny place, hard to find, but worth it.
Senyor Parellada, Argenteria 37, tel: 93 310 50 94. One of our favorite places for Catalan food. Inexpensive.

Tapas: Txapela, Passeig de Gracia, 8 -10, no need to phone ahead, big touristy place, but a good place to sample Basque tapas.

P.S. Here's another, larger restaurant list done at another time with some of the same restaurants as above and some additional ones:

Medium:

Tragaluz, Pge de la Concepcio, 5, betw. Passeig de Gracia & the Rambla, tel: 93, 487 06 21. Go
upstairs (there's a Japanese restaurant downstairs)

Cal Pep, Plaza de les olles 8, 93 tel: 310 79 61. Old town seafood. Tiny place, hard to find, but worth it.

Medium/Inexpensive:

Senyor Parellada, Argenteria 37, tel: 93 310 50 94. One of our favorite places for Catalan food. Try the lamb dish if you like lamb.

Cafe de L'academia, C. LLedo, 1, Plaza Sant Just. Tel: 93 319 82 53 or 933150026. Tiny little place, reservations required, great food.

Salero, Calle Rec, 60. Tel: 933 198 022. This is the place we went to last night. Good vaguely Asian food, noisy young crowd. We had a good time there

Inexpensive:

Casa Aragon, corner of Ronda Sant Antoni and C. Joaquim Costa. Good place for mid-day menu del dia. Also open at night.

La Bella Napoli, good pizza from a wood-burning stove, pastas and meat also. On C. Villarroel between Arago and Consejo de Ciento.

Montello, Via Laietana 42, Tel 93 310 35 26. Good pizza and Italian food.

Taverna Can Margarit, C. de la Concordia, 21, Tel: 93 441 67 23. Fun atomosphere--seems to be a former stable or factory or something. Good Catalan specialties. Open only at night, and not on Sundays or holidays.

La Tomaquera, C. Margarit (corner of Magallanes). No phone or reservations taken. Sometimes you have to wait in line outside. Best Catalan-style snails in Barcelona.

Tapas:
Txapela, Passeig de Gracia, 8 -10, no need to phone ahead, big touristy place, but a good place to sample Basque tapas

Ok...eww snails? ugh!

Hope this gives everyone some additional ideas for on their own or as a group.

I am hesitant to even post this at this late date but does anyone have any ideas as to a private tour operator that we might could get for Rome at such late notice. We booked this cruise spur of the moment a few weeks back and I have been so busy with other things I haven't been able to really research. Of course all of the private tours were already booked thru the Disney tours. I know there is a listing on one of the threads but I assume all of those would be taken from now. Thanks for any help.

La Poma is located in Hotel Royal at La Rambla 117. I e-mailed the hotel and asked if they could help me make the reservation, but of course I have not heard from them. I'll give it a couple of days and if I still don't hear from them, I'll ATTEMPT to call.

Jodie...I did ask him about sardinia. This is funny...:lmao: when telling me about how beautiful it is and how he loves to go there blah blah blah...he said that we were lucky we would be in the south. I guess most cruises dock in the south somewhere? I then said ..oh no, we're docking in olbia can you give me some references for the north...(we're doing maddalena so i wanted to know what he thought of that)...he said you can't go wrong anywhere in the north. It's the "french riviera" of sardinia. Mostly upscale, beautiful beaches. He did say it wasn't as family friendly, but it depends on the day and the location you choose to be at. Watch for toplessness...if you care. Most people like to show their taa taas...as is the norm in europe. :rolleyes1
I will ask him about the specific beaches on the list of excursions, unless you have a specific beach you want to know. I just emailed him some webpages to translate for me!:surfweb:

Dont know about the refuse collections but they have an air strike today with no planes going from England lots of flights cancelled.

Also just been speaking to a lady from Malaga spain and they are having big storms over there so hope they do not get it bad on Magic. Dont know if they extend down to Gibraltar but would think so as Malaga is not that far away.

Probably be clear by then. Strange to read the reports as they now are nearly the same time as us here in England.

Silver 7, I cracked up at the ta-tas comment too. Haven't heard that one in a while. My husband will probably want to MOVE to Europe once he figures out people walk around naked on the beaches! My DS (age 9) asked me yesterday (very innocently - he is quite naive), "Whats the big deal with clothes? Who invented them, and why do we have to wear them. I just don't get it." Guess he'll fit right in. Too funny!!

According to my coworker...dario...he says that you have to pass palau to get to the good beaches. I think I read it's about a 30-45min bus ride to palau and then I don't know where the beaches are. I sent him some web pages on sardinia to translate for me, if you have one you want him to translate, post the link here.

I thought taa taas was better than ****ies :rotfl2: ....Hey I typed that out and it automatically *** it...hmm

Okie doke...there's only 22 days till I board my plane!....

I have now shipped my daughter off the weekend before we leave so I can pack in peace! OMG...plus theres only 12 days of school left...it's all winding down...can't wait :dance3: :dance3:

Our schools are out tomorrow at 9:30am, and older DS had his finals and was home from college by 5/12 :scared1:

DH has decided that they are just taking suits for the formal/semi-formal nights, so we are off to go buy suits VERY QUICKLY!

I think that JF is on either this weekend's cruise or the next one--he would not have time to come on ours, his tour starts on 6/22 on Dancing with the Stars.:guilty:

Princess Jasmine - 5?
Also - 3?
Carolmb - 4

According to DCL today, they will only be seating in one restaurant buffet style. The restaurant info will be available upon check in. I am just supposed to go there and let them know that we need to have 31 people who need to be seated together. We'll see. Lets just check in with each other at the port. I know there are people who want to check palo/spa/kids club and go to their room. So, it seems to be a good thing. I'll run up to the restaurant first and let them know we'll be there in about 1/2 hour after I check in.

So now I really need to get the ball rolling. Thinking of course that I am so ready, I am now getting nervous that I really do have everything. My credit card hasn't been charged yet for my post trip plans so I have an email to my TA to find out what up with that. She said it would take 3 weeks after to get my docs...and thats pretty much up tomorrow :scared1:

I changed our sardinia excursion to the actual beach break on maddalena. I can't remember the name but there are others going on it.

My diet has pretty much sucked. I tried to lose a few before, but oh well, guess i'll be scarring the children in my swimsuit  :rotfl:

Do you have us under my Mom's ID of PMM0724?

We are not using Disney airport transfers to/from Barcelona. How is everyone getting to the port? I have heard about the subway, but we would have luggage and 6 year old in tow. What about a van service?

I do! I have one with that name and then 3 with names. We are only using disney from the port to airport, but we are going in early and not staying at a "disney" hotel. How dare we! I know there are people using a car service. You can take the metro if you dare. There is a little walking involved (so it seems on the map) These are the people coming in the 16th: Auntsue1, bartty,Disney Lover Linda, LisaTex, Wonder, vtiffany. See if you can find out from them how their doing it.
Theres a meet in the roy suite on sunday. PM leilani(dvc4us) to be added to the list.
DVC4US put together a list of everyones info. Arrival, hotels, flight, excursion. You can pm them to be added. She posted the list a while back, thats how I got the people arriving on the 16th.
If you're coming in early, there's a group meeting for dinner on the 15th. Pillow(jodie) has that information.
If not, and are arriving early on the 16th...we're storming the pier  around 11ish on sat. to check in and then regrouping for lunch...probably around 1:30. Then of course, everyone will be disbursing to get their last excursions in barcelona.

I'm going to go read your blog now...ok just read it so you won't be able to do the dinner/lunch. But..thats ok. Just come to the meet in the roy suite. It'll be fun! You can get your magnets there. Or off my door 6003.
We have a couple of excursions together...day at sea at maddalena(thats the name!) and jumping back to eternal rome.

I'm very jealous you got florence and pisa! Thats the one I wanted. BUT Alas, no room!

And...you got alot of palo. Everyone been having problems getting ressies there. Good for you!

We are using Barcelona Taxi Van, http://www.barcelonataxivan.com/, to take us from the hotel to port and port to airport. Another car service some people are using is Angie's Taxi, ANGELINA GARCIA [angietaxi33@yahoo.com].

I am having the car service pick us up from the hotel at 11am to take us to the port. So, I guess we would be there around 11:30am. I hope that is not too early, not sure how the family will do with too much waiting.

I went shopping on Monday and bought a pair of Merrel sandals for my walking around shoes. I will probably wear my tennis shoes when we go to Pompeii. I still need to order my stuff from Magellans. I need to take my DD shopping. She is so picky about her clothes. I keep telling her that I can not wash clothes :laundy: every couple of days like at home so needs to find more favorite clothes to wear.

Just saw this info on the 5/26 thread--thought it was interesting:

For those that stop somewhere else before Barcelona, it really makes customs a piece of cake. We went through immigration to the EU in Milan. It took less than 3 minutes, passport stamped and on to the domestic terminal. Once we got our luggage in Barcelona, you did pass through an area that said "Nothing to Declare" or "Declare". No paperwork - nothing. Just walk through when another plaine is arriving. They only have one or two customs agents that seem to randomly select people. We literally walked right through.

They have currency exchange at the airport. They were buying $ at $1.41 per Euro. Traveler's checks were $1.35 per Euro. They have automated machines that take currency. I tried the airport ATM but couldn't get it to work with my card. Thankfully I had US$ so I exchanged some to get a cab, etc.

Cabs are plentiful and don't worry if you have too much stuff. They will wave you to a larger vank-sized taxi. The ride is 20 Euros but another chunk of change per bag. And they count EVERY bag.

Weather was sucky when we arrived. Very overcast and smoggy. But it has now cleared up and we have beautiful blue skies. Weather is warm. Mom is in shorts. Very few people here are wearing shorts. Even those that are wearing shorts have long ones that go past their knees. Colors are definitely boring bieges, browns, blues and blacks compared to my normal Southern Florida colors.

Haven't had much language problems. My Spanish seems to be good enough to get buy. There are quite a few people that speak English - but quite a few that do not.

Storming the port....:dance3:
Ok, my check out time is 11am and we are staying close by the port, so my plan is to walk straight there and wait until they let us board. We don't really know what time that will be...but I am hoping for earlier than 1pm.
So really getting there anytime is good. I was just goofing around. Wanting others to be sooo jealous of us and beautiful shirts ;)

Since I have to check out of my hotel by 11am. I am going to go straight there. I don't want to get started walking around and then go back to my hotel to get my bags. I like to have them in my possession! Anyways..thats my controlling issue  :rolleyes1

Most people have to check out by 11...and are headed straight there. You know it'd be really great if disney would let us check in and take our bags! So we could leave. I think businesses just want to have a line going!

21 days....holy cow!

Well I am hoping for a better day today than yesterday everything seems to go wrong at the same time - how I think I need that break.

Bought myself a laptop computer last weekend and have been unable so far, as have the experts to get this to work without the cable plugged into the wireless router. Think I spoke to everyone yesterday about this until my head was just spinning with it all. Press this, do that all too much. Trouble is all the help centres seem to be based abroad and I am not against that but have serious problems understanding them sometimes. I run AOL and apparently this can be a problem. Then in the afternoon (beautiful sunshine and warm for England) there was a loud bang and the safety valve on my solar panels blew off and ended at the top of the garden. All the mixture from the tubes shot out like a water cannon. Luckily it went the other side to where I had the parrot out in his cage and I had just moved from where I had been sitting talking to Toshiba. All these things are certainly sent to try us I think. Anyone on this board run AOL with windows vista please?

Another lovely day here but we in this part of the country are desparate for rain.

Assume Magic is now on its way to Barcelona - everything from that site seems quiet unless I have missed something.

Regarding these clothes optional beaches we stayed in Fuertuventura in the Canary Isles a few years ago and I was amazed as have been used to the topless ones in parts of France particularly for many years. People there just do not take any notice of naked people. We were in South of France many years ago when my girls were small and they could not believe it and kept coming back and telling their dad about ladies with no tops on. The innocence of children. On the other hand we here on the Isle of Sheppey have a naturist beach which most people never go near.

Well back to trying to solve the AOL laptop problem.

We have our tickets for a 9 pm showing tonight after my daughter's piano recittal at 7 pm. We have some pirate costumes that we wore on our last cruise or we may even wear our MedHead t-shirts if its OK with the group.

My DW is so distracted by the Pirate movie that she may forget it is our 16th anniversary on Friday and her birthday on Monday. Only 4 more days of school for the girls.

It has been interesting reading about Magic's translatlantic cruise. Besides the rough weather, the daily time change of one hour seemed to knock people out as well. Glad that most of us are going early to get over jet lag.

I nominate Brenda (Skallywag) as official Medhead Get-Up Get-Moving Cabin Door knocker. :lmao: Please Brenda do not let us sleep the cruise away. We have to do everything on the Navigator. We can sleep when we get home.

PJ, your enthusiasm is infectious!! I went out and bought pirate costumes today for us (not cheap by the way). pirate: My husband is gonna freak out when he gets home. He already thinks I've gone off the deep end with all this cruise stuff. Wait until he sees what I bought him to wear. :rotfl2: I offset the pirate costumes by finding a formal dress at the Goodwill store. I was psyched! Gotta stop eating ice cream so that I can fit into my dress. :scared:

Cell Phone Service is now available on the Disney Magic. The service is only available in guest staterooms and is provided by a wireless cellular network that supports over 340 cellular providers including Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Alltel. Users are billed by their cell service provider and rates vary according to plan. The service will be available on the Disney Wonder by mid-summer.

Saw this on the PassPorter Web site...Does anyone know the rates or if it will actually work on the Med. cruise?

Can anyone tell me how to get to the webcam and what threads to read for the other cruises? I've looked back over several weeks and have found some sites but that's not what I'm looking for. I feel the need to read about how the transatlantic went. Thanks!

Took the family last night to Pirates 3 to a 9 pm showing. We got there at 8 and got great seats, we purchased our tickets a couple of weeks ago and expected a mad house like last year. I wore my puffy pirate shirt, hat and eyepatch. Katie (DD11) wore her Medhead t-shirt and pirate hat. Alison (DW) and Kelly (DD7) just wore their Medhead t-shirts. If you are keeping score at home, yes we kept our children out after midnight on a school night. :confused3 Hey but it was 3 hours earlier than last year.:scared1:

2 hours and 40 minutes of Pirates and then you have to wait thru the credits to see another 30 seconds of important material. Only 20 people stayed for this clip. Please stay when you go see the movie.

Won't give the story away but will offer that it is better than Pirates 2.

Wishing everyone a good weekend.

John, love your Pirate Movie adventure. Was anyone else dressed in the theator? Looking forward to meeting you all. I hope Katie & Jenna will make friends.

Here is another blog I found for the next 2 weeks.

Yesterday went to Ellis Island, for my DD's class trip. I wore my "new" walking shoes. :thumbsup2 It was about 80 and very hot. Shoes held up well.
I almost cried when I saw the Lady Liberty. Accross from her was the Queen Mary 2. Boy she looks like a big...... Disney boat. It really got me very 3excited :woohoo:

Marie, I am going to email Angie's taxi one more time, just to make sure they didn't forget us.

Mission accomplised. Glad you've joined the pirate side.

I don't want to give anything away but all I can say is that saying I was sorely disappointed in the movie would be a wild understatement. I downright hated it. We went to the midnight showing and there were 16 of us all dressed up but that was about the only fun part of the movie. It was so dark, gruesome, and depressing. I had to leave the movie theatre at one point because it was so disturbing. I am just going to pretend that movie didn't happen and just think about only the first two which I loved. I would NOT let a child watch that movie. It was so disturbing. I do have some pictures of us all dressed up but they're not uploaded to my computer yet.

How strange it feels over here knowing that the Magic is on a similar time to us in England just 1 hour ahead.

Have now managed to get my laptop connecting wirelessly to AOL what a difficult time - Microsoft seem to have introduced Vista and nothing much is compatable. Microsoft offered to help me with the information but at a cost of £40 plus vat. Was not pleased about that.

Anyone moaning apart does anyone know what cables I need to bring apart from the power one to use the laptop on board. Know that I will need to bring an adaptor but to not know about a wireless cable and even if they are the same as ours here in England. Help all these little problems and then must start getting thinking about what clothes I am going to take.

Watching weather report last night and it seemed cloudy in Barcelona but will have another look today.Would love to see a picture of Magic there and wonder if anyone has seen one posted.

3. Making copies of all our important paperwork. copies of everything front and back:
a. Passports
b. Drivers Liscense
c. Medical Insurance cards
d. All Credit Cards we are taking

4. Just in case a piece of luggage doesn't make it to our destination at the same time we do,make sure there is a sheet of information in each suitcase. What will be on it:
a. Our name and phone numbers, US cell numbers and Global cell numbers
b. Home address
c. Hotel where we are staying and length of stay
d. Disney Cruise Line, Magic and length of cruise
e. Hotel where we are staying when returning from cruise and length of stay

Hi Everyone,

Sorry about the spelling mistakes in my last post - having problems with the keyboard on my laptop - have checked and the voltage is o.k. so thanks to everyone for their help. Wondered if I need a cable to plug in to the telephone line but assume not.

Sounds as if the first cruise is getting sorted and am looking forward to hearing about it - sneaking on to the other boards.

Glad to hear that everyone that posted enjoyed the excursions on the way over the atlantic and particularly it seems Gibraltar. It is such a strange place but I have always enjoyed it there. It is a bit like the channel isles where my daughters are, British but so different in a lot of ways.

My sister in law was actually born in Gibraltar as father in law worked out there in the dockyard.

Hi Bren,

You'll just need a US style plug for your laptop power supply. Something like this:

DID YOU ALL READ THIS???????

Well, there is good news and bad news.

The bad is we will not be joining you and all our friends on the Magic's first Mediterranean cruise. Words cannot express how sad we are to be missing this trip with all of you. I had ordered Roses and the Bon Voyage chocolate covered strawberries and wine package to surprise Lynn in our cabin to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We have both shed a lot of tears these last 2 days. Please tell Shane and Laurie we are so sorry we could not continue our trip with them. Laurie lent us her cell phone as they were boarding the plane in Atlanta and it helped us a lot! (We will get it back to her when they return to Phoenix.)

The good news is we met some of the most wonderful people at the Atlanta airport who helped us cope with this disaster. After we arrived in the Atlanta airport we went to another terminal to wait for our next plane and get something to eat. In front of Arbys I reached in my right front pocket to get my wallet out and felt there was only one passport, mine, in the same pocket where I had put both of our passports after clearing security in Phoenix. Panic set in as I tried to remember all the possible places I had taken out my wallet and could have dropped Lynn's passport. In Phoenix, I had gone to Starbucks before Shane and Laurie met up with us at the gate and had also had taken out my wallet while sitting at the gate area to give Lynn some money to go an get something to eat. The only other time I could remember putting my hand in that pocket was to take some pills I had in a small box while on the plane from Phoenix to Atlanta. So, unless someone had picket my pocket while in the Atlanta airport, it seemed the passport must have dropped out of my pocket when I accessed my wallet in Phoenix or on the plane. After carefully going through all our carry on bags multiple times, I rushed back to the gate we had arrived at in Atlanta. I asked the gate attendants if anyone had found a passport and they said no. They said the planes are cleaned between flights so it would have been turned in if it had been found. Also, that plane had already departed for San Francisco, so we could not check our seats again. I returned to the food court with the bad news.

Time ran out as I racked my brain on where the missing passport could be. We had a photo copy of the passport in Lynn's wallet but, they would not accept that to board. We watched our friends board the plane without us and I realized I needed to get our 4 suitcases off that plane! The gate attendant told us we would have to go to baggage claim and request them. We ran to the baggage claim service desk where there was a huge line of passengers waiting to be served. I panicked and apologized to everyone as I cut to the head of the line telling the attendant I only had 15 minutes to get our bags off of that plane!. After some confusion, I learned that on international flights, bags are only loaded if the owners are confirmed boarding the plane. I also learned it would take up to 4 hours for the bags to show up at the baggage claim area!

The Delta lost and found office was next to the baggage claim service desk so I checked with them and there was nothing. They sent a text message to Delta operations in San Francisco to check our seats again when the plane arrived there. We waited 4 hours the answer which was negative on the plane in SF. Our bags still had not come so this very nice lady from Delta's baggage service desk, (she knew our plight), took our baggage claim stubs and went to track them down. She returned about 45 minutes later with our bags! We thanked her and returned to the ticketing area to decide how to get back to Phoenix.

By now, we were both extremely exhausted. We had gotten up at 4am in Phoenix and it was after 12am in Atlanta by now. We talked with 2 ticketing attendants and told them what had happened so far and requested how best to get back to Phoenix. One of the attendants would not let us give up. She was so positive we would find the passport and overcame our doom and gloom attitude. She looked up every conceivable phone number in both the Phoenix and Atlanta airports for Delta Lost & Found, TSA lost & Found, airport Lost & Found, airport operations, even the Starbucks in Phoenix's terminal 3. She tried calling all these numbers but either received automated answer messages or negative answers regarding the passport. She would NOT let us give up! She said we should wait until late morning and try the numbers again. We were so sad & tired and all of the comfy chairs in the airport were taken with the holiday passengers sleeping in them! This incredible lady from Delta ticketing would just not let us give up!

Our ticket to Barcelona was not refundable and we did not have travel insurance either. She rebooked us on the next flight to Barcelona and even reserved us a seat on a flight via Rome to Palermo on the next day so we could rejoin the ship if we found the passport and could get it in time. Anyway, she gave us a complimentary hotel voucher and a bunch of complimentary 5 minute phone cards, since we did not have the charger for Laurie's cell phone, and said go get some sleep and try again later in the morning.

We went to get the free shuttle to the hotel but the phone number for the shuttle was constantly busy! We talked with the driver of a shuttle for another hotel and after hearing our story, she volunteered to take us to our hotel even though she didn't work for them! WOW!!! She dropped us off near our hotel's lobby so as not to be seen and I gave her a nice tip and thanked her for her trouble. We got to our room by 3am and slept until 7:30am.

We returned to the airport and retried all the same numbers to no avail but left messages to call us on Laurie's cell phone regarding the passport. We finally decided to call Disney Cruise Lines to see what our options were. Well, the castmembers we spoke with were incredible!!! We asked if we could possibly rebook one of the later cruises using some of the $12,000 we had spent on this one. We were told there was nothing available at first but then one of the supervisors tried again without entering the air travel add-on and surprise!!! For $435 additional perperson we got booked on the July 28th 11-day Med Cruise in a Cat 6 stateroom with a verandah just as we had booked on our previous reservation!!! She also told us not to book a flight back to Phoenix just yet and to call her back in 30 minutes.

We went and got coffee and a Danish and called her back after the 30 minutes as requested. When we called back she gave us a confirmation code for tickets back to Phoenix at 4:30pm!!!! Man somebody pinch me! I must be dreaming! First nightmare then WOW! We need to check with Delta but we probably can use our Barcelona tickets on this cruise as well.

So, it seems, we will get to the Med after all! We will miss you all terribly but, have a great cruise and we can't wait to hear all about it! While waiting for our flight back to Phoenix we went and had some lunch at the food court. We got a call from Starbucks in Phoenix and they had found Lynn's passport!!! We picked it up when we arrived back last night! So we are ready for July's cruise!

Sorry this was so long, but believe me when I say it was much longer for us!

I saw that...ugh..that would be my worst nightmare!
On a better note...everyone is updating their reports. There are some wonderful pictures of montserrat and great info about boarding. I think I am getting jealous that I did not stay in a disney hotel. They don't even have to go to the port to get their keys. On a side note, it seems those that they were able to check in at 10am! Probably because the ship was in overnight...we'll have to check out the 6/6 cruise.
I can't even begin to tell you how jealous I am that Joey and Kym were on this cruise (at the beginning) but not travelling, but it's said that Joey and his family will travel on the next one! We're just one off! :( I'm a big geek, but I did love my *NSYNC back in the day!
So far it seems all is well. Hopefully they'll have the dining down by the time we get on. I will leave early to go to the sailaway party. I JUST CAN'T WAIT!
17 days until we leave for barcelona. The pictures they have posted are beautiful.
I am also happy that we arrive in the evening. Seems that everyone arriving in the morning is having a bit of trouble adjusting. I hope all of you who are arriving in the AM will sleep on the plane.
Gotta get baking. I'm attempting a carrot cake with lemon cream cheese frosting and a cherry cobbler. Wish me luck.

Welcome aboard 3happytravellers....let us know more about you! We're a friendly chatty group!

Have a great day.

Still trying to locate the link for the Med cruise just departed - want to know what money we have to have available for the porters would it be in USD of Euros I wonder.

Thank you for the information on the laptop am starting to get the hang of it now - not good with new technology.

Anticipating trip reports from the 11 day - i keep checking the trip reports - I need to get out of the house. Has everyone seen the video on utube of the Magic going in to Barcelona? It and the music made me cry (or was it that i just got in from the AUstin wine festival, or that the spurs lost or that I have a million things still to do) Anyway, they were happy tears:goodvibes

Just an FYI in case anyone is still looking for last minute excursions - I just realized that the concierge team had put VIP pisa on my itinerary without me knowing it. (I had called and asked about it but had never confirmed) So I will be calling Tuesday to cancel it - hopefully it will then be available for anyone who may want it.

Does anyone know if you call your bank and let them know what is going on, will they let you take an unlimited amount out with your ATM once we are there?

All these last minute questions!

Have a great Monday off!!

I saw on another thread that phil collins and hannah montana are supposed to cruise as some point. Phil won't be on ours unless genesis is coming as they are touring this summer until 7/14 in europe. I think they're coming to the states after that though. I can't find any info on hannah montana, but my daughter would die! She LOVES hannah montana. If there were any disney show actors on board, she'd be in 7th heaven!

I read the post of those poor people losing their passport...I would die!

I'm so busy right now and I keep reading all the post on the current cruise. I really, really want to know whose going to be on our ship?? My son is hoping for Tony Hawk, but I think that is very unlikely! lol He would be happy with Carrie Underwood too. So...how do we get the insider info???

Steph,

Good luck with your baking! I've been dipping pretzels and cookies etc in chocolate for two days trying to make a big platter for my son's graduation party tomorrow!

In the next two weeks I have one baby shower, one wedding shower, one retirement party, five graduation parties, my son's prom, his awards ceremony...he's apparently getting one (darn the school for telling me...I hate keeping secrets!), oh and his graduation on either the 12th or 13th depending on weather. So....when to pack!!!! I'll be the one at Mickey Mates looking for a toothbrush! LOL

I'm rambling....that's what I do when I get excited and I'm officially excited!!!!

Can't wait!!!

Oh, my daughter is bananas about Hannah Montana right now. That would really make her trip, but Hannah looks to be playing (http://www.bryantpark.org/calendar/gma-concerts.php) in NY,NY during our cruise, so I think that dream won't be coming true :(

My DD almost had a heart attack when I told her that Hannah(she is a teen singer Billy Ray Scyus daughter)& actress on the Disney channel. Very popular & very much loved.

DD looked on the internet, & she will be on tour. I don't think she will be on our cruise :confused3

I found another live Med blog for everyone to read

Patricia,

I know, I just can't get enough of these blogs! It makes it so real and even though I didn't get on this cruise until 100 or so days ago, I booked on the first day for a July cruise and I had to cancel because thre dates didn't match. I've been dreaming about doing the med for some time and when I heard Disney was going....I couldn't miss it!
I still don't think I can wait until the 16th to find out who our special entertainment is....how did Joey Fatone leak out? Hmmm....doesn't anyone know a CM?

Can you guess that I'll probably tell my son whose graduating that he's getting an award! LOL He told me now to go to the ceremony that he wasn't getting one....the school send me a letter....I really don't know what they were thinking....I guess they didn't want me to embarass myself my not going...but to expect me to keep a secret! Jeez!!!! So...I'm going to tell his girlfriend...lol I'll feel like I told someone and then maybe she will tell him...who knows! He'll probably get a award for something stupid! I don't know what they give awards for...first kid to graduate. He doesn't do sports, he's quite smart but with 600 kids in his class he's not in the top 20. He gets along great with adults so maybe he'll get an award for being the teacher's favorite? Not worth missing a day of work for in my opinion so they better make it good! lol

Yes, I'm punchie...only bound to get worse in the next couple weeks! Sorry!!!

Hi Welcome to the board.

Just still trying to figure out who Joe Fatone is and what he does. Never heard of him at all but probably because I come from the wrong side of the pond.

We have had two solid days of rain here so assume that the draught is now well and truly over. Have been loading my pictures down on the new laptop and that has been fun. Lovely to look at them especially venice from a couple of years back. Still trying to figure out what time we are allowed on board but looks as if you have to be there for 5 p.m. lifeboat drill.

Tell us a little about yourself and who's travelling. You can find out about most of us a few pages back. We are a friendly bunch.

Patricia-
Joey Fatone was a member of the boyband *nsync. There were pretty big from 98-03. Justin Timberlake (who is quite popular now) was also a member of the group. Joey also had a small part in the movie "My big Fat Greek Wedding" and now is on broadway. He's the member of his group that had the personality. Seems like a fun guy, but who knows. :confused3

:tinker: I wish for some major pixie dust to have any one of the disney channel actors. That would make the Cruise for my daughter. She loves the character, but now gets that they are just people dressed up. If they had anyone of their "stars". OMG...I don't know what she would do. :scared1:

I have already set aside a packing/cleaning couple of days :laundy: right before we leave. It's just 2 weekends from now.

I agree I wish they also had a in between club for the 12 year olds. They do make exceptions though I remember my daugter Olivia who is 8 now being able to go the lab instead of the club. I think she was 7 at the time and they let her go in with the 8-9. It looks like there is going to be alot of 12 year olds on this time so they should have a great time. talking on here is so exciting:banana:

Wow..17 cruises! Thats great. This is our first cruise, so you can "show us the ropes" :)
Well, my daughter will love having another 8 year old. My DD is in 3rd grade (just turned 9) there are a few 7-9 year olds on this board. I am sure there will be more on board, but it's nice to know in advance. Taylor gave up her party this year to go to eurodisney, so we'll be headed there afterwards.

Also, the travel channel has alot of shows about many of the places we'll be travelling. There's one called "not your average travel guide" which is quick blurbs about popular and not so well know spots to check out. Plus info on metro/bus/train systems. Check it out. I've tivo'd so much. Good thing regular tv is over!

Have a great day..again. Gotta get baking.

There are fellow 'dissers' on almost all of our excursions and as it is only myself and my DH, I look forward to the familiarity of others. I've been reading about other dissers bringing little trinkets...I thought that might be fun. Anyone interested? We could find something small that symbolizes where we are from to give to each other. A keepsake from around the world. ;)
If your interested, post here. I'll keep a list so we know how many want to participate. 1 trinket per group, not person, lets keep the cost down.

The banner was made by Brian who designed our t-shirts. They originally had skull & crossbones much like what you see in the Pirates of Caribbean logo. However, cafe press (who does the shirts) or Disney keep taking the pirate off the logo. I don't know if he plans on putting it up anymore. But you can just copy the image from one of ours & download it to your signature (using the right click). :thumbsup2

All of the company have gone home also except my parents and they will leave on Wednesday.

Sue - I am on the laptop right now and the list is on my desktop so I will make sure it is updated tonight and repost it tomorrow.

I know it's too early but just let us know how many is in our gift group. I guess then you buy a small gift for everyone in our group. I like that idea!

So far by my memory: auntsue1, Disney Lover Linda, Taysmom, PurtyPat1, OhLawyer2.

Do we want to set a "basic limit" of $5.00 or so?

Except for PURTYPAT she just saved $3,000!!! ::yay: :yay: :yay: (she can buy us all BIG Gifts!) :lmao: (Just Kidding!)

Happy Memorial Day Everyone!

Well, the big weekend is over. Open house went over really well and we had about 115 people. :welcome: Welcome OhLawyr2! :welcome:

I don't know if you've read back through all the pages, but we lucked out and got the Roy Suite for this cruise so we are hosting a DIS meet and greet in the Suite on the first sea day. Everyone is welcome so if you and your family would like to join us just let me know. I am keeping a list with everyone's cabin numbers because I plan to send out a reminder on the 16th.

Also, I am trying to put together a list with all the information for everyone such as when you are arriving in Barcelona and what excursions you are planning on doing. This way we can see who is going on the same excursions so we can look for each other. On page 115 there is a list of questions if you want to look at them.

I know you are still trying to figure everything out so just let me know when you have made your plans and if you want to be added to the list.

Thanks so much Patricia and Sue. It was a busy and crazy weekend but it turned out great. We had the food catered so that was one less thing I had to worry about. I thought it was going to rain(which it did earlier in the day) but it cleared up and was really nice during the open house.

LeiLani,

Congrats! I'm glad everything turned out so well. Congrats to your daughter for her graduation!

I just had my son's graduation party tonight at a restaurant and it was a huge success! I thought my husband was going to kill me since I kept adding to the guest list but when the bill came he didn't flinch! Yeah! It worked out so well, we had a private room with pool tables and fooseball and for the adults the important stuff...a bar! lol It was buffet and everyone mingled with everyone. All was good...one more event taken care of before we leave for the med! My son still has his prom Friday night and then graduation on the 12th so its far from over for us.

Patricia,

So did you downgrade to the cat 12? I'm surprised you can still do that...lucky you! I would have but since I used points there were too many restrictions. I doubt that you will regret it, I'm thinking you will spend very little time in your room anyway.

About the gifts.....count me in!

Hi Marie,

Congrat's are in order for you too!!!! Is your son & friends going to the Jersey Shore after the prom??? That's what all the Northern Jersey kids do. They usually go to Seaside, which is taking over by teens.

Thank you for the :thumbsup2 on the downgrade. LOL I walked 4 miles on Friday, debating with myself to do this. :scared1:

When we get to Spain, maybe you can explain to me, all about the points, I hear it discuss on the disboards, every now & then but never knew what it is about.

Does anyone know about how many gifts we will need??? I know the perfect gift but need to have an ideal on about how much 25 to 30???? Anyone??

Big day tomorrow, got a field day again in DD's school.

Good night all

Perfect. So glad I could inspire others to follow in my madness.
Our favorite restaurant at EPCOT is Alfredo's in Italy. My DH(Tom) and I think the original restaurant is in Florence. Does anyone know for sure?:confused3 We really want to dine at the original. Anyone care to join us?

Vicki
I remember reading that the one in Epcot is a chain too but I can't remember where it started.

I already have an idea for my gifts :)

Steph
My only dilemma is what do we have in Cincinnati that anyone actually wants? Jim?

Okay, someone said they wanted to see pictures of the pirate scavenger hunt so all of you are going to have to suffer through them. I went with pirate wench for my costume.

Me in the middle:

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t315/PrincessJasmine08_lee/Piracy/huzzah.jpg
My younger sister. She's 16 and she's looking for people her age to hang out with on the cruise. She's digging for some sort of buried treasure.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t315/PrincessJasmine08_lee/Piracy/tinypirate2.jpg
My older sister had the entire formal living room decorated too look like it had water on the floor and there were gold coins and sails and all sorts of stuff.
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t315/PrincessJasmine08_lee/Piracy/goldcoins.jpg
So, even though I really didn't care for the movie, the scavenger hunt was amazing (and my team won)!! :cool1:

(of course it won't be:laughing: ) But you know, just go with your gut. I would recommend not spending a ton, as we have a cruise to pay for!

So far it's about 7 families, so let's set a deadline to join in...who's leaving the earliest. I know there are some abd people leaving earlier. Tentatively, let's say June 8th. I'll post the final list then. That gives everyone a week or so to pick up something. :thumbsup2

We'll explain all about DVC. I am sure they'll have a presentation. Which you should go to, as you'll probably pick up a freebie..they do have PINS that you can't get anywhere else, so maybe that?!?
After the presentation, you should sit down with us owners and ask all the questions they won't answer. Heck, I'd even go to a presentation, just to see how their selling now.:woohoo:

Allright...memorial day DONE! I have eaten too much this weekend  Now my dd has one more day off school...inservice days!...then 8 days left. The time has flown by this year. I can't believe in just over 2 weeks we'll be boarding our plane.

Have a nice night everyone

Anyone planning to go to Mondello beach? We were thinking that we'd do a quickie city tour and then head to Mondello beach for the rest of the day. I'm wondering if anyone else is planning to go. Doesn't look too far from the port.

Hello! Count us in for the gift exchange. Might not be too exciting as we are leaving in JUST 10 DAYS!! So... does this mean we should bring those fish holder thingamajigs that they talk about on the other threads? Or - should we just do a person-to-person exchange? Either is fine with me.

Did anyone else read the good, the bad and the ugly trip report? What did you think?

Have a great week.

Vicki,

To get to Mondello, we'd have to take a cab or public bus - don't think its that far though. The entire Mondello area looks great - shops, restaurants, etc. The DCL excursion just isn't long enough for me. We'll talk more later.

Ok, here's the deal.
Everyone who wants to participate will bring a small trinket from home for each "disname" that wants in. Not each person, just each "disser". I think it should be something that represents where you're from, but really it could be anything you like. Spend as much or as little as you like too, but lets be real..those credit card bills will arrive soon after the trip  so use your best judgement. Don't worry if it's hokey or silly. The point is to bring something the each of us will remember YOU for. :grouphug:

So far we have the following participants:
Auntsue1, Taysmom, Disneyloverlinda, Purtypat1, OHLawyer2, Worktoplay, Princessjasmine, Vtiffany, Lisatex and maybe pillow (wasn't sure if that was a yes or a no)

We can exchange anytime or leave them at each others doors or ?? I don't know, but we'll find a place. Maybe even the last sea day as a goodbye to each other. I'm sure we could find a place to meet then.

Lisatex leaves on June 7th, so we should change the last day to participate and make it June 3rd. :hourglass

Alrighty, just another thing to pack, but it'll be fun.:cool1: Now...who was working on those bracelets? I think I need to bring some money for those..or are they not happening? Someone refresh, please don't make me read back.

Just found this on the ba website and know we have to have this information when coming to the States but wonder if you need to look at your bookings and update. Looks like spain are asking for this.

Advance Passenger Information requirements for Spain from 13 June 2007

Summary
British Airways plans to meet the Advance Passenger Information (API) requirements of the Spanish authorities from 13 June 2007.

More information
This is the first enforcement of its kind on European routes and means that all airlines, including British Airways, will be required to collect specific information from every passenger travelling to Spain. This information is compulsory and is required for the purposes of ensuring aviation safety and security.

Below is a list of the information required:

· Full given names
· Surname
· Nationality
· Date of birth
· Travel document number e.g. passport number

Hi Dylan's mom and Booklover!

Dylans mom I have a son who is two months shy of 15 that will be going on the cruise.

Booklover--what reading materials are you bringing? It looks like we will have tons of time on the buses going to the excursions!

What rooms are yall in, where are you from. . . you know we want to know the usual questions!

Hi, We will have a 12 yr old DD on this cruise as well...We need to create them their on Dis Thread to talk to each other!!!

I was thinking that last night that I would go back and see how many 12 year old young ladies we have so far. My daughters loves to email or IM and she will have nothing to do next week since school will be over. I will put a list and maybe we can send PM's to get them communicating.:wizard:

We also have a DD12. It would be great to get them e-mailing before the cruise.

Hi! We are going on this cruise too -- so happy to have found this thread!! It's the 3 of us -- me (Bev), DH Gary, & DS Dylan, age 15.

Sounds like you have lots & lots of plans so far & I don't know if I'll ever catch up, but just wanted to subscribe to this & hope to get to see some of you on the cruise. I haven't posted here for ages too, so don't really even remember how to do it very well..... But thanks for all of the great tips I've read so far & I'll keep going back -- wow, so many pages of interesting stuff for our cruise!!!!

Also, just found those cool skull t-shirts from one of your posts -- thanks!!!

Welcome to you both! We are a fun and friendly meet group...but we are also nosey! We want to know everything! Tell us about you. You can go back and see who we are on previous posts. About 3 pages back, you'll see who's on what excursion. Probably 20 pages back you'll see who we are, when we arrive.

And..dylansmom..we're from cali too. Northern california, just east of SF. I haven't met another cali on this thread. What part are you from?

Hi Wonder that would be great if we could get the kids to email before the cruise. I am not sure on how to do it. I am really new at all this.
Thanks again ,

ICUceleste...took the circumvensia train from naples to sorrento. Said it was easy and under 10euro for a round trip ticket per person.
She said just no problems with people either. Her podcasts are great. I recommend listening to them. I commented on her blog, hoping to get some clarification on the VAT she stated. DCL CM said there are no additional taxes..so whats the deal?

Welcome to all the newbies!
