Once again, Welcome! party:
Hi Ron. We were on the first West Coast Cruise and we will be on the Wonder 10 day cruise in Sept. There are several people hoping to do the transatlantic repo and the first med cruise (us included). We are nearing 30 DCL cruises with the ones we have booked. We always have a great time. Look forward to meeting you. Alex and Carolyn :donald: :donald: :donald: :donald: :donald:

We are booked! We'll be doing the Repo as well. DH (Ted) and I will be traveling with our DS (Owen, 8 at time of sailing) and DD (Amy, who will be 5). We'll be in the 6056 for both cruises and we'll be switching from early dining on the repo to late dining on this cruise. We look forward to getting to know everybody!
Kathy
Ron, Congratulations on booking the Roy Suite!!!

ALEX AND CAROLYN, :welcome: That is outstanding! We will be seeing a lot of each other...! I'm surprised we did not meet on the First West Coast Cruise... I hope we have a fun group for this cruise... but, I can say that I have never had a bad time with any DIS'ers... :disrocks: I'm sure this cruise will be wonderful and memorable... :sail:
Kathy, :welcome: I am Excited to hear you will be in the late seating as well... Thanks for the Congrats on the Roy Suite, I was really excited! We were told that we were the 2nd ones to sign up for the waiting list way back in 2004, who woulda guessed! I will be travelling with my buddy David, and our respective significant others... I will talk to them, but, I'd love to set up a nice DIS meet in our suite one night...
Alex and Carolyn... PS- I think I met one of your fellow "First Timers" on the the inaugural west coast cruise... you are all crazy, but what a cool tradition you have going! :worship: How many of you are left that have "Done it all?"

Ron, Wow a DIS meet in your suite would be great! We were on the 30 July Western cruise last year. We were part of a fantastic DIS group. It was our 3rd cruise but it was our 1st time cruising with DISers. We had so much more fun! We decided to opt for late seating on this cruise so we wouldn't have to rush back from the ports to make it to early dinner on time.
I see that you're from Vegas...love that town! Ted has a conference at the Venetian in October and I plan to tag along. I hope it turns out to be the same weekend Jimmy Buffett's at the MGM. We also hope to see the new Cirque du Soleil Beatles show that will be at the Mirage.

Hi Ron - :wave2:
We met on the West Coast Cruise - yes in your suite :lmao:
with Wendy Pierce (AOIP57 - at the time). We are hoping to book on the July 28. Sorry we will miss each other. I see some dates/threads started here already. We are also hoping to get some ideas/tips/suggestions from cruisers before us. Can't wait.

Hi everyone! My name is David. My wife (Monica) and I will be sailing with Ron (lglbriefs) for this cruise. We are also on the 10 night Caribbean which Ron and others will be on as well.
We look forward to the Med cruise and the 4 Disney cruises we have scheduled prior to it!
As Ron suggested, we should have a party in the suite. We managed to fit close to 100 people into the Roy on July 4, 2005. Hope to learn more about everyone prior to sailing.

I cannot wait to hear what sort of special send-off party: we will get for the inaugural cruise! The escorts, fireworks and fun on the west coast inaugural cruise were amazing! I bet there will be similar fanfare for this cruise as well... :cheer2:
I guess this board will start getting busier after the 4th... :confused3 at least I hope so! LOL...

What DIS activities will there be?
Ken (kpros) has a great post that includes all of that information. You can find it here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=16789644&postcount=811).
Sue (sweetsue a.k.a ME!) also has a few Barcelona activities here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=17433386&postcount=1441).
DINING AND ENTERTAINMENT
What night will be our first "assigned" rotation night? The 26th or the 27th?
Saturday the 26th.
What are the theme nights on the cruise? And what days are
they?
When are the formal night(s)?
There are rumors that Disney will change the dining. Why wouldn't we have rotational dining with the same servers?
DCL will be having rotational dining. Seating times are 6pm and 8:30pm.
There will be one formal night, two semi-formal nights and a pirate night. The formal night is the first sea night. The semi-formal nights are on June 1st (at sea night) and June 4th (Villefranche night). General agents do not yet have the dining rotation. When/if the information becomes readily available, I will post it here.
When is the sail away party?
10 pm
When is Tea for Wendy?
On the sea days at 4pm.
When is the Goofy PJ slumber party for the kids?
Are there any special wine seminars/tastings/classes?
You’ll just have to wait until you see the events in your personal navigator. Surprise!
What shows will there be?
See post from winotracy here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=18355216&postcount=2611)

see post from princesslisa71 here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=18576645&postcount=3307)
BOARDING, LUGGAGE, DISEMBARKING
When is boarding?
It begins at 1pm until 4pm in the terminal. After 4pm until 9pm at the ship itself.
On boarding day, can we go on and off the ship until sail-away?
In other words, can we check-in, go to our staterooms and then leave the ship for a few hours?
Yes you can come and go from the ship in Barcelona - bring your passports with you when you leave the ship.
What time do we have to be on the ship in Barcelona?
Everybody must be onboard by 9 pm.
Can we check-in or drop our luggage at the port and then leave for awhile to see Barcelona before we check-in for our stateroom?
Yes
What time?
Check-in begins at 10am.
Is left luggage available at the Barcelona port?
Disney said probably no but they do not have control over this.
What is the latest DCL transfer from port back to airport?
Everybody needs to be offboard by 9 a.m.
9:30 a.m. is the last transfer
What terminal will DCL be in at Barcelona?
Moll Adossat - Terminal C
Can you purchase transfers if you are staying at a hotel not booked through DCL?
Only from the hotel to the port and back, not from the airport to the hotel
PORTS
What ports require tendering?
La Spezia
Villefranche
What is the liquids policy for Barcelona?
We'd like to carry aboard wine like we have in Port Canaveral; will the policy be the same?
What about at ports (like Marseille/Nice)?
Same policy as Port Canaveral - you can carry on unopened wine and other liquids.
Are we allowed to bring food, wine and olive oil on the boat from our ports?
Bringing food onboard is a definite no according to DCL. Unopened wine and other liquid bottles are ok.
Here is the official policy from DCL. It is supposed to stay the same for the Med:
Coolers are not permitted except for Guests needing to store medications, baby food, or items related to a dietary constraint. Coolers containing personal items (e.g. soda or snacks) may not be brought on board.
• Homemade, pre-cooked or other perishable items plus any open snack containers will not be allowed to be brought on board
• Non-perishable, USDA approved snack food items in their sealed original packaging may be brought aboard ship and must be consumed prior to returning to Port Canaveral after their cruise
• Disney Cruise Line regrets that the crew members on board are unable to provide food preparation, refrigeration, or storage on board for personal food or beverage items
• Limitations on food items permitted to be brought aboard are directly related to concerns for food safety and contamination prevention. Disney Cruise Line cannot verify the cleanliness of the environment in which pre-cooked or homemade food items were prepared. For the safety of all guests and crew, these items are not permitted aboard ship
Are we allowed to bring food and snacks from the ship into the ports? Specifically breakfast bars, sandwiches, chips, fruit, etc.?
DCL’s policy will be the same – no official or separate announcement for the Mediterranean cruises. They do request people only take off wrapped items such as breakfast bars and chips.
It’s also important to note that most countries do not want you bringing fruit or other meat products into their country. This is how disease is spread from one country to another such as citrus cancer and mad-cow disease.
Is it possible to book two excursions in the same day? I would really like to see Cinqe Terre and Pisa. (The DD really wants to see the Leaning Tower. She has seen it on Disney' Little Einsteins; the tower symbolizes Italy for this 5 year old) Is it possible to do both in the same day?
Yes - as long as the excursions don't overlap. Sweetsue and family are doing this in both Marseille and Villefranche. DCL will allow you to meet the second excursion on the dock so you don't have to reboard the ship or tender.
Does anyone have any restaurant ideas for Barcelona?
Best bet - wander the Gothic Quarter stopping in little places that look interesting and have "little plates" (tapas). Worst place - the little sidewalk cafes on Las Ramblas - high on $ and low on quality - but great for people watching! Great pick it up and go spot - La Boqueria market on Las Ramblas. Seafood - lots along the port area. Be cognizant of typical Barcelona hours (lunch starts at 1, dinner at 9). Look for a crowded restaurant (at those times) - an empty restaurant is empty for a reason.
Any idea on how soon we can get off the boat in Rome? The Disney stuff says something about 7:30, but I wasn't sure if that was realistic. I have never been on a cruise before, so I do not know what logistics are involved.
In general, you will be able to get off of the boat at the stated time. The ship has to clear customs with the port authority before anyone can go ashore, so the time is only an estimate.
GENERAL BOAT QUESTIONS AND MISCELLANEOUS
Is there a number that we can give our families if they need to reach us in case of emergency?
Yes. It is very expensive though and should only be used in real emergencies. You will incur ship to shore charges for every minute even if they are just leaving voicemail. Ship to shore charges are satellite charges and $$$$$$$.
From padalyn:
You can direct dial anywhere in the world right from your stateroom. Ship-to-shore rates apply and will be posted in your stateroom.
==============================================
The phone number to the Magic is:
1-888-DC AT SEA (322.8732)
==============================================
When is the lifeboat drill?
5:45 PM, however the announcement begins at 5:15. Shipboard services are suspended from 5:15 pm to 6:00 PM.
With the recent sinking of the boat in the Greek isles, it would probably be a good idea that everyone goes just to make sure they know where their lifeboat station is.
This is DCLs info on “missing” the drill. The safety drill is very important and the ship strongly suggests that everyone participate. Safety regulations are taken very seriously onboard.
If you should, by some chance, miss the drill, you will receive a letter in your stateroom as role call is taken during the drill so the ship is aware of what guests have not participated.
Again, it is very important to participate in the safety drill.
Will euros be available on the ship for exchanging $$?
Yes there will be euros on the ship.
Here is some additional info from Scooby3x1y:
Regrettably Guests are not able to obtain cash advance on a credit card
from Guest Services.
Guests are able to cash personal checks drawn from U.S. banks only up to
$100.00 per guest, per voyage onboard at the Guest Services desk.
Personal checks (no temporary checks) need to be accompanied by:
One of the following photo id's:
Valid Driver's License
State issued ID with picture
Active Military ID (green)
Passport
One of the following Credit Cards
American Express
Visa
MasterCard
Discover
The Disney Credit Card
Diner's Club / Carte Blanche
Traveler's Checks can be cashed with a photo ID. There is no limit for
Traveler's Checks, but the checks need to be in US Dollars.
We look forward to sailing with your family in the Mediterranean!

Another response:
An onboard credit can be used to cover anything that is charged to the
stateroom account (i.e. gifts, merchandise, refreshments, etc.) and is
placed on the stateroom folio. Guests receive an enclosure card in
their stateroom that notifies them about the onboard credit, who
arranged it, and any special message.
To purchase an Onboard Credit, please call 800-601-8455 Monday - Friday
8:00 AM - 10:00 PM (EST) or Saturday - Sunday 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM (EST).
Guests can exchange dollars for Euros or Euros for dollars onboard the
ship at Guest Services. It will be exchanged at the prevailing rate,
there will not be a charge for the exchange.
We look forward to sailing with you! Have a Magical Day!

Are we going to get a special litho for the Med repo or First Med cruise. That would be good to know so that we could include a mailing tube in our bags?
Sorry – we won’t get this one answered before the cruise.
I know that it is sick to think of work while on a cruise - but does anyone know if there is a business center or internet cafe onboard where I can get caught up on e-mails? I do not want to lug a laptop. If so, any idea as to the cost?
There are internet cafes onboard with wired packages. You can't use them for anything other than surfing the web. Here is information on the wireless packages:
*** NEW UPDATE (thanks to winotracy and Kissimmee ***)
Wireless will be available throughout the ship (including staterooms) beginning Saturday, May 12th!
From Scooby3x1y:
We are pleased to announce that guests who bring their wireless ready laptop will be able to utilize our wireless Internet access onboard and get connected! The wireless Internet and Internet Cafe are interchangeable. For example, guests who purchase a block of minutes for the wireless system can use those minutes on an Internet Cafe desktop computer and visa versa. Below, please find the locations from which you may gain access and a selection of plan pricing.
Cadillac Lounge
Wavebands
Promenade Lounge
Studio Sea Deck
Cove Cafe Deck
Open Decks (Decks 9 & 10)
Atrium Decks (Decks 3, 4, & Mid-Ship)
$.75 per minute pay as you go
$27.50 for 50 minute plan ($.55 per minute)
$40 for 100 minute plan ($.40 per minute)
$75 for 250 minute plan ($.30 per minute)
Currently on the wireless plan you may surf the Internet, send/receive email, download/upload files, print and open/send attachments. Guests will also have free access to disneycruise.com. An unlimited package is unavailable with the wireless Internet offering, because the capacity of the wireless system is limited.
Some additional info from DCL:
To get started Guests must open their internet browser. They will automatically be directed to a Log-in page which will ask for a user name and password.
The user name is the guest's first initial, last name and stateroom number, all lower case with no spaces. Example: jdavis1431 (for John Davis in Stateroom 1431)
The password is the Guest's birthday in six digit format: mmddyy. Example 043060 (for April 30, 1960). The system will ask the guest to enter a new password. This new password will be used for all future log-ins.
Once the guest is logged in a pricing option screen will appear. The guest must select a plan for internet access.
Finally, a separate browser window will open which displays a count-down of time used. This window should be kept open until the Guest is ready to logout or end the session. If the window is closed inadvertently, it can be accessed by typing the following URL in the address bar: http://1.1.1.1
To stop the timer and log-out the guest must select the LOGOUT icon located on the desktop.
Can we use Skype?
Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is accessible; however, due to limitations of the wireless service uninterrupted connectivity and quality cannot be guaranteed.
What is the size of the closet in the staterooms (for luggage storing)?
For Category 4 through 10 (category 11/12 is smaller, Cats 1-3 have at least one walk-in closet in addition to this closet, handicapped Cat 6’s have a second “drive-in” closet great for luggage storage, not sure about other handicapped rooms)
From Jeisur:
The closet base measures 27.75 inches by 18.5 inches. It is nice to have nesting luggage that fits at the bottom.... otherwise there is the standing suitcase issue with anything longer than a t-shirt.
I THINK under the beds was just shy of 10 inches but YES you DO have to lift the bed if the item is a bit larger... garment and duffle bags tuck under nicely. Little kids can fit under nicely but are hard to get out.
So just what is this talk about GSM, SIM cards and cell phone usage in Europe?
See Rick Steve’s awesome article on this (http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/mobilephones.htm)
The Magic (beginning May 12th) will offer cell phone usage onboard ship. The major carriers are AT&T, Sprint and TMobile although they state “with most cellphone providers, … you can make and receive calls and text messages on your personal cell phone. International roaming charges may apply. You’ll want to contact your provider to obtain information on international roaming rates, as rates for usage are determined by your home carrier.”
Kissimmee provided additional information that TMobile wants to charge $4.99/minute and this includes unanswered calls and voice mail notifications.
CUSTOMS, LIQUIDS POLICY, ETC.
What is the liquids policy for Barcelona?
We'd like to carry aboard wine like we have in Port Canaveral; will the policy be the same?

Same policy as Port Canaveral - you can carry on unopened wine and other liquids.

It’s also important to note that most countries do not want you bringing fruit or other meat products into their country. This is how devastating crop and livestock diseases are spread from one country to another.

Hi Ron
We met you on the 7/2 West Coast cruise, and enjoyed our tour and party in the suite on the 4th of July! Ahh...great memories!
Congrats on your new bookings. I'm very bummed we cannot do either repo cruise this time. My teacher friends cannot get that time off. We are hoping to get on one of the late June or Mid July cruises. I look forward to hearing all about your ventures...you guys know how to do it up good!

That sounds great! My DD will have just finished kindergarten when we sail. We're taking her out of school a few days early (school doesn't end until May 29th). She'll love having a new friend when she goes - and I'm sure it'll make your DD more comfortable since her brother won't be with her.

Sue-
There are three stops in Italy on the cruise and the things you can see will be something a 6 year old will remember for a lifetime. We just returned from a week in Rome. A trip to the Vatican is unbelievable. The Cistien Chapel, the Piata, St. Peter's basillica. What a great opportunity to study the history with children and then see it in person. The stop in Naples should allow for a trip to Pompei. And doing all that with Disney! This is going to be a great cruise.

I am really looking forward to it! If you were to hit just one or two of the "must sees" on the Rome list, what would you recommend? I'm not sure my DD6 will be up to visiting everything in one day. Instead, I'd rather spend more in-depth time getting the flavor - and having an excuse to return on another trip to see the rest!

Please add 2 of us to the roster for this cruise. Myself (Kim) and my mother
(Bette). This will be our 7th Disney cruise. Last May we were able to go on the panama repo cruise which was fantastic.
We will be cruising alone since none of the other families members like to cruise. We will be in a cat 9 which we have come to really like.

There are 2 of us (Deb and Linda) and hopefully the others in our group got their cabins too!
Deb
HI Deb -
Glad you are going to be on this cruise too . We had a blast with you last year on the Ing. Mexico. Cousin Sharon and I have our confirmation for this one too. It is going to be so much fun.
I had to make a count down ticker for this one. But I have to concentrate on Alaska for the next few months lest my travel group will think I lost interest in it - lol.
We are going to have so much fun.

I'm seeing a lot of familiar names from the May Repo cruise to California. :) We didn't get to know many of you very well (there was just too much to do on that cruise :goodvibes) but I really enjoyed following the precruise discussion on the cruise meet thread and look forward to all the good information for this cruise. There are six of us in 3 cat 11s. Me, DH, MIL, Adult stepdaughter, DD (age 15 at time of cruise), DS (age 11).

Posted this earlier on another thread:
Hi everyone,
After a long phone wait (1:15min.), we booked online and then got all the details we wanted taken care of over the phone. We were lucky to get the repo 5/12 then the 11 night med. with the rooms we wanted. Is anyone else doing both cruises? We wanted to make this the big trip before our DD heads off to Kindergarten. I'm curious how many others are able to do a May trip before school is out? I heard that the Panama repo in May was not as crowded as the August - anyone know if that is true? Hope to see you there and we can't wait to eat the food in France and Italy - good thing the gym was expanded!

Now that I found the cruise meets thread, I'm getting goose bumps at how many of you were on the first west coast cruise. We went 5/28/06 and loved it so much that we went again while it was on the west coast on 7/17/06. This is very exciting!

Did you find there were a lot of "kinks" to be worked out, since it was the first time DCL had sailed to some of those ports? I'm asking because I would love to sail on the May 26th Med. cruise, but am nervous about it being the "guinea pig cruise"!

Yes, there were a few glitches. When we arrived at the terminal the computers crashed and it took them about 3-4 hours to get us through the line and on the boat. We arrived at 10:45am missed the lunch and barely got around before the very exciting departure. By our second cruise a month and a half later, it was smoooooooooth! People were very understanding about it.
There was little confusion about all the time changes and some missed there excursions.
Everything else was a dream come true, obviously.... since we booked two!
My concern is where will the luggage go if we are on the repo and the first med cruise? We don't want to carry it around Barcelona for a few hours (ha-ha) Any thoughts on how that works for those of you who took the Panama repo and inaugural cruise?

Take care
Jill and family/friends from the 7/2/05 cruise
Jill, great to hear from you! :yay: I wish you could join us... we had fun on that cruise, didn't we! I hope you are able to make one of the Med cruises... we'll miss you on this one! :guilty:

The obvious ones are a DIS meet on Embarkation Day :grouphug: , a gathering in our Roy Disney Suite party: , and a Pirate Get-Together... but, we could also think about a wine mixer (where everyone brings a wine native to their state :drinking1 , though, I'm not sure a Las Vegas wine would taste very good... lol) and I generally like to plan 3 nights of meetings where we get out and dance, the typical ones are 70's night, 80's night, and Kareoke night.... :dancer: please share your ideas...

I love the idea of any kind of wine party. But let me tell you - you do NOT want wine from the state of Florida. :headache:  However, I might be persuaded to bring a bottle out of my Florida version of a wine cellar.

Hey buddy, I recall that... For those of you not privy to the story, we heard that you could get good deal on alcohol in one of the ports we visited in mexico, so, with this in mind, and at the behest of a Disney server (who asked us to get a fancy bottle of Champagne that he could share with his fiance' :love2: ala Dom Perignon) we set out in a taxi  to find a few bottles, and well, long story short, after $50 in taxi fare and 4 liquor shops we came back empty handed :confused3 ... the prices were ridiculous! But, that does make for some funny stories! :rotfl2:

Count us in for the wine exchange! I don't think NC is a premiere state for wine production but the Biltmore Estate produces a line that is fairly decent.
Question: Does anyone recall what the port taxes are per person? I just got the combined total and I'm trying to figure out if I got Tier 1 pricing. I know the insurance was $338. Will the insurance cover the airfare also? It seems a little high and I'm wondering if I could get similar coverage on my own. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Go to www.insuremytrip.com to compare insurance prices. DCL insurance won't cover your airfare unless you buy it from them.
Taxes for 2 adults are $118 (total) - at least in a category 11. Category 11 cabins were still selling at the lowest price when I checked this a.m.

We run a drug education program in CA... hence the name Miles To Go Drug Education. DH is a recovering alcoholic, so we'll bring some of the best non-alcoholic wines & sparkling ciders from CA. Also, will pick up some of our famous CA wines as we travel past many of the best vineyards on our lecture tours. Don't worry everyone we're not anti-alcohol... our program doesn't scare off mom & dad from drinking alcohol (or coffee for that matter), we teach kids about parents who demonstrate moderate and healthy drinking patterns. Unfortunately, it just so happens that with our family history there is no healthy drinking - bummer! Too bad we won't get to enjoy the Italian & French wines.
Can't believe it's 13 months away,

Okay all - I have made my first crack at the Inaugural Mediterranean cruise spreadsheet. We need a name that is a lot easier to type! I have columns for names in party with screen names, category booked, stateroom, dining seating, rotation, hometown and hometown state. As I post on here I will blank out stateroom numbers and hometowns. If you see a ? in the category or hometown state number it means I don't have the detailed hidden info. This'll keep it more secure if there are people concerned about posting their stateroom number on the DIS (this concern exists on another cruise I am on). I'll be happy to email anyone that is booked on the cruise with the detailed info.
Here goes (hope this cuts and pastes well): EWWW - It didn't.... Will work on cut and paste tactics...

I have no problem with my cabin # being published....I'd like everyone to know so they can stop by and visit! Speaking of which, we've just changed ours to a Cat 7 (#7626) which is a Navigator's veranda. This gives us another $600 to put aside for excursions so it's all good. We've also selected Late dining.
I look forward to meeting everyone in this wild and crazy group!
I think our name should highlight the fact that we will be the inaugural cruise....how 'bout "1st Magical Med" or something similar?

Not to worry Jeanne - everyone on this thread will receive a printout at our first meet with all the cabin numbers listed! Some people are concerned about posting information of that nature on the web. It's easier for me to block all the cabin numbers rather than remember who said it was okay to post on the web and who said it wasn't. I think it has to do with losing-the-mind because I had a child syndrome. :teeth:

As the un-official keeper of anything list-like, here's the current list of names. This group is so creative!
Magic in the Med
Mediterranean "Magic"
"Magic"al Mediterranean
First Magical Med Cruise
Magic Pizza Pioneers
Premearing MAGIC in the Med
Showing the MED our "MAGIC"
Presenting - MAGIC in the MED
Introducing MAGIC to the Med
Here's a few that DD helped with:
Magical Adventures in the Med
Magic and the Med - The M&Ms
Any more creative thoughts? It's quite a good list!

I have Two more suggestions for names...
"1st to SEA the Med"
"Taking the Magic to SEA its Birthplace"
I'd suggest we keep accepting ideas this week and then open it up to voting for one week starting Saturday....
Supposedly people are booking hotel rooms already for this cruise, but I am not sure how that is possible since it is too far in advance, has anyone heard anything? :confused3

Hi Kelly

I used the "lan-101" for the May Panama Repo. You have to order 100 minimum for the custom printing. I ordered about 450 for the repo. Did the whole thing via E-mail. Good quality, fast turn around.
I ordered the badge holders from another place. Let me know if you need that info as well.

Hi Everyone
Before we make a final choice, I just wanted to give you some background on the May 2005 repo and the theme for that. The Kingdom to Kingdom theme just kind of happened because we were taking the Magic from the "Magic Kingdom" in Florida to the "Magic Kingdom" in California. One person was working on door signs and came up with it. The term Magic Kingdom was used at Disneyland long before Walt Disney World was developed. So it was an easy choice for us.
Now, from the name tag point of view, a short general theme works great because the space is somewhat limited. You can always expand on the theme in other places - for example, the name badges for the May 2005 repo had the "Kingdom to Kingdom" main theme with small graphics and then I went on to describe the 1st Panama crossing in text on other lines.
We had T-shirts that used the Kingdom to Kingdom theme, but we also had T-shirts that said "Reposition This" with a picture of the Magic. So just because we have a theme on some things, doesn't mean you have to stay with it for everything.
Anyway, this was probably more info then you really wanted.

Ken has a good point. Short and to the point works for name tags as well as T-shirts, visors, mugs, etc.. It leaves more room for pictures and gives the cruise a catchy name like "kingdom to kingdom" did. I like "Med. Magic" "Magic'al Med.", but should it include "first" in the name? Having the date with it will indicate it is the first, but should say it too. Just some thoughts. Alex

Down on the second page again - can't have that.
As far as a theme goes, I kind of like using "Mediterranean Magic" as the over all theme. Then in a graphic or on a pin, you could add something like "1st Med Cruise" and the date - or you could add any of funny sayings people are coming up with relating to pizza or a mouse roaming around the med. It gives you lots of options.

these look good to me but a couple questions --
are we "crazy" enough to be first OR "LUCKY' enough to be first?
Since that dates are May 26 - June ? is that your way of telling the rest of us that DCL was so happy to have us on the first cruise that we don't have to leave after 11 days but can stay as long as we want as long as we get off sometime in June? Same price as an 11 day of course :lmao: :lmao:
I know I have it somewhere but doesn't DCL spell it Prem"earing" when a movie debuts on land and DCL on the same day. Is that spelling maybe trademarked or copyrighted? I'll keep looking but I moved since that cruise so it is probably still in a box somewhere. :confused3

I like the titles that highlight the fact that we are the first group in the Med, e.g. Med Magic: Crazy Enough to be the FIRST
or
Magic in the Med: Dare To Be FIRST
Anyway you look at it, I think "Med" is probably going to have to stand in for the full word, because it's just so darn long (and hard to spell!)
I like "crazy" over "lucky" because you gotta be a little crazy to do anything the first time. If someone gave me this trip for free, then I might be more willing to call myself lucky, but as it stands right now, we're going to be doing a lot of penny-pinching over the next year to accomplish this and that's more hard work than luck!
Thanks, Kim, for agreeing to help design our shirts....what a gal!

So - I decide to take a vacation - and everyone else does too????? :confused3
I hope all have had a happy Easter and great weekend. My little 3-night de-stressor Wonder was loads of fun. DD5 had a very special moment onboard. A cast member on Castaway Cay asked us to meet her at Studio Sea at 9:50pm. Since DD5 was actually awake we went! They had ALL of the characters from their farewell party just for us and two other families. Four kids altogether had a private audience with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Snow White, Cinderella, Mulan, Princess Aurora, Peter Pan, Wendy, Hades, Hermes, the Muses, just to name a few. :wizard: was definitely there for this cruise!
DCL did some fun stuff for Easter. We had Easter egg decorating with a very surprise visit from "spring" Donald, Daisy (YES - DAISY!) and the White Rabbit. There was a castaway Cay egg hunt. Tons of fun.
Got to "test drive" the new navigators. Definitely the good, the bad and the ugly. Ended up using a combination of both the old and the new to figure out what was happening. Loved the TV guide but really missed the pictures and detail in the old ones.
Saw the preMEAR of The Wild. It was quite funny! Even some adult humor in the mix.
Oh well - best go feed DD. Where is that serving team when you need them? :teeth:

We got back from VB/WDW on Friday evening. It was a great trip although very windy at VB. We beat the crowds by getting to the parks at opening and leaving in the early afternoon. We managed to get to AK on Friday morning and rode EE before our flight home. We had a great DIS reunion with folks that we cruised with last summer. They are all cruising together again in the Med on 28 July 07. We would have loved to sail with them again but that date just didn't work for us.

Thanks to Sandy's idea, I've added room and person counts so we have a running total. Right now I have 18 cabins with 47 people. Whew!
Not a problem Sue. Actually I didn't want to just "bump" but didn't like us hidden on page two so had to come up with a reason to post - lol.

Hey everyone!
We are now booked on the May 26, 2007 cruise on the Magic in the Mediterranean! We are so excited! We got a catagory 4 room for all 5 of us. We have been on a Disney 4 day cruise out of Florida and then last year we did the 7 day out of California. We have loved all of our Disney cruise and can't wait to visit these ports!

SweetSue, That private audience with the characters sounds so incredible! What a great vacation. Once when my neice was at CA Adv. Snow White took her hand and walked her all the way across the park to where she had to meet the prince for lunch. She walked really slow talking to her as her eyes were big as saucers glued to Snow White. Meanwhile, SIL & I had tears running down our cheeks - it was so cute!

Yes - it's time to think about those ports already! The travel channel has a series of episodes on the ports we will be visiting. Here's a quick rundown of some upcoming shows (times are Eastern):
4/25 Noon - Provence, France
4/26 3pm - Cannes and Nice, France
4/27 3pm - Cote D'Azur, France
4/28 Noon - Marseilles, France
4/28 3pm - Naples, Italy
I haven't seen any of these yet so I have no idea how helpful they will be. I've got to remember to set my Tivo!

There is a discussion on the cruise board about the hotels for the night before the cruise. One of the posts suggests that the five hotels recommended by Disney are all booked for the cruises next June. For those of you who are coming in the night before, have you already made your reservations? Have you made them through a travel agency or have you made them on your own? If on your own, did you just call a toll free number for the hotel chain? I'm going to try to post a link to the discussion for the hotels. Yikes? I hope I can still get hotel reservations. :hourglass

They are attached to your cruise reservation so you will need to book them the same way that you booked your cruise. If you used a TA for the cruise, then you will need to use that TA. If you booked them by yourself, you will need to call DCL directly.

As of now, we don't intend to. The ship sails so late at night (10pm, I think) that we're taking our chances with a red eye that gets us in early that morning. Also, we've been to Barcelona before so seeing the city isn't much of an issue for us. DH has his own business and it's very difficult to take too many days off.

Hi Everyone,
I spoke with DCL rep yesterday. They still have rooms available at all 5 hotels which they have blocks of rooms reserved. We're a family of 4 and will need 2 rooms because the room capacity is 3 people. The max capacity was the same for all 5 hotels. If we stay at the Marina, the 2 rooms will cost us $910 US. OUCH! :sad2: The same DCL rep told me that if we book a room through DCL that they would transport us from the airport to the hotel, the hotel to the port and then back again after the cruise. I assume they will transport you to the port if you fly in the sameday. I forgot to ask about the cost associated with either option.

Roundtrip airport transfers through DCL are $50 per person. I don't know if the hotel rates include transfers or not. I never looked into the hotel transfers since my TA knows of other more reasonable options. Here is the detailed info including rates that I got from my TA.
AC Barcelona www.ac-hotels.com/main.asp
$270/night (for 2), $395/night (for 3)
Grand Marina Hotel www.grandmarinahotel.com
$455/night (for 2), $535/night (for 3)
Hesperia Presidente www.hesperia-presidente.com
$335/night (for 2), $455/night (for 3)
Hilton Diagonal Mar www.diagonalmarbarcelona.hilton.com
$295/night (for 2), $335/night (for 3)
Hotel Atenea Mar www.bchoteles.com/atenea_in.htm

I have a question for those of you that have been to Europe. My DD5 and I usually share one bed and my DM takes another. Are the beds in the hotels large enough to share? Are they the size of a double bed or the size of a twin? Does it vary by hotel? Do I have to pay for a triple because we are 3 people or can I save the $ and only get a double? :confused3 DD doesn't take up much room and some of the rates for a triple increase by almost $100/night!
Thanks for any help!

I'm curious about the transfers also. Maybe it just covers the "extra" leg (hotel to ship). And if, in fact, it does cover all three legs, will you be refunded the extra $100 charged for transfers if you stay in the Grand Marina Hotel? I seriously doubt we will arrive a day earlier, but it's just good to know these things. I'm starting to get antsy about arriving the same day.
And another question: Ya know how people who book the DCL transfers from WDW to the port always complain that the bus leaves so late and they are always among the last guests to board the ship.........well, what time do you think Disney will bring the hotel guests to the Magic in Barcelona? Since the ship departs so late, they might not bring you there until 3 or 4 pm. Heck, I want to start partying as soon as possible!

Good point. That reminded me that when we arrived at the LA port for the 1st West Coast Cruise (May 05) around 10am, folks were STILL getting off the ship that had been on the repo cruise. I can't recall now if it was a luggage issue or customs or what..but at one point it seemed like as many folks were still getting off the ship as were arriving to get on.
And, that was in the US.. no telling what the process will be in Spain. Anyone disembarked in Europe before that can share the experience?

Does anyone know what time DCL has scheduled us for boarding? Deb is right. We waited a long time to board in Calif. I think we had boarding pass # 4 or 5 and we were early getting to the port. Several dissers arrived after us and got an earlier boarding pass. I hope DCL learned from their Calif. mistakes.

For the first West Coast Cruise, we arrived at 10:45am and didn't get on the boat until after 3pm. All the computers crashed and the employees were not used to the west coast systems. But 7 weeks later when we took the next cruise it was a breeze.
I'm wondering how it will work for those of us who are on the repo then returning for the 11 night. Did anyone do the back to back Panama, mexico? How did it work for you and your luggage? Did you have to leave the boat? where did your luggage go?
littleowensmommy
04-25-2006, 12:29 PM
Kelly, Are you staying in the same stateroom for both cruises? If so, I would assume that you will unpack on 12 May and be good to go until 6 June. We are moving from 8032 to 6056 and my TA told me that the cabin steward would take care moving us. As far as I know, we won't have to take our luggage off the ship on 26 May. We can get off the ship and tour Barcelona for the day but we won't be able to reboard until DCL starts boarding the 26 May passengers.

We are also doing the repo and 1st Med cruise. We have the same room booked for both - unless we get an upgrade (fat chance for that). I'm hoping the change over process with go well.
The first timers were on the May Panama repo and the 1st west coast cruise, so Alex should be able to provide some insight into the process when he visits this thread.

I was wondering about the boarding times and procedures as well. I seem to remember that there were separate lines for non US citizens when we went on the Panama Canal cruise. I wonder what happens now? I assume most people boarding will either be from the states or from European countries other than Spain. Has anyone cruised in Europe before? Since the ship leaves late, we're hoping to take a tour of Barcelona before we board. I certainly don't want to cut it too close. :boat:

We have two different rooms as of now for each cruise. We are counting on an upgrade for the repo, which looks like it might happen due to the time of year and school being in session. I seriously doubt we will get the upgrade for the 11 night, but you never know. I'll be very impressed if we don't have to worry about moving our stuff. I'd hate to be sitting at the port with all our stuff for 6 hours!
I'm including a post I put on the repo cruise thread this morning:
I'm officially putting out my list of goals to accomplish in our remaining 55 weeks. Anyone else have any goals before the trip? Anyone else have goals they want the rest of us to help push them to accomplish?
Goals before trip:
1: Increase our business income to pay for DVC & cruise! Benefit: increase stays each year!
2: Finish my Doctorate - or be within 4 classes by the start of the cruise - must bring one book/class with me on cruise. Benefit: obvious!
3: Choose my dissertation. Benefit: peace of mind, excitement of beginning research.
4: Finish all sewing projects in the house! Benefit: clean the sewing area & have complete rooms!
5: Sell all books and junk on Ebay: Benefit: downsize the junk in our house!

5. Start a weight-training program.
6. Read more for pleasure.
7. Learn to speak a little Spanish.
8. Organize our move.
9. Finish the knitting project I started on our July 04 Disney cruise.
10. Organize my kids' rooms and get rid of 1/2 of the toys.
I'm tired just thinking about it!

I like the simplicity of "1st Magical Med Cruise". I'm leaning toward that for use on the name badge. That doesn't mean other forms can't be used for other items. We can have lots of fun with the different variations on door signs, t-shirts, etc.

isn't there a web site where you can special order M&M in your color choices - we could order them in Mickey/Magic Colors - black (or very very dark blue), yellow and red :rotfl:

Yep! I looked up the M & M web site right away when I saw the name for our cruise. I was planning to have the M&Ms made up with "Magical Med" on them. (Mediterranean won't fit and I'd probably misspell it anyway). I'm open to a discussion about "magical colors".

Hello, everyone!
We finally booked the cruise! Unfortunately, it's probably going to cause me to miss a volunteer experience I really love that happens annually at the end of May, but it works better for my mom's work schedule. And we might be bringing some friends along from her work on this one. I don't know that they've actually booked yet, but they're planning on it.
Can't wait to return to Italy and France, although the only place we've visited before is Florence and Pisa. Our Europe trip didn't make it any farther south.
It'll be an early birthday present for me (July 21 is the date), and it's also the year of my parents' 30th anniversary (though that's in October). I've already asked for Rosetta Stone Italian language software for my birthday this year :)
We were on the first Panama Canal cruise last May, and we'll also be on this year's Christmas cruise.

Quite group for the last few days. But I guess we still have over a year to go, so there's really no rush on anything.
Busy day today for Shari and I. We are participating in a Relay for Life event here in Ventura. Shari is walking for 3 hours right now (4pm to 7pm Sat.) and I get to walk from 2am to 3am Sunday Morning. But it's for a good cause and our team raised $4600 for the American Cancer Society, so it's all good.
Have a great weekend!

Did anyone else see the rumor about the med cruises (see the cruise line forum)? I don't know how to post a link so I'll try a cut and paste
Quote ---
Interesting rumor I heard...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I forgot to mention on my trip report, but during dinner one night, we were discussing the Med. cruises with our head server. He said DCL is only filling the ships to 65% capacity on the 10 and 11 day cruises. They are not selling out all rooms. He said that they are doing this because they don't want it too crowded for the guests.
I don't really believe this, but has anyone else heard this???
He was very insistant about it...hmmmmmm
----Unquote
I think this will be interesting to watch unfold.

Man, as a business owner I can't imagine any business wanting anything to be 65%.... very odd indeed.

Danielle (booking mgr. onboard the Magic) had told us last month that our cruise was more than 70 % full already. I can't believe that moving the Magic to the Med and then only filling the ship to 65% is cost effective for Disney. I wonder if they are having trouble selling out the ship because the cruises are so expensive and the Europeans are flocking to DCL to book a cruise? Does anyone know how quickly the west coast cruises sold out?

I bought some last night at Target, but i haven't opened them yet. I don't know if I can keep them until next summer though - lol.
They are white chocolate (isn't the ship the Black Pearl - so I guess these are 'pearls' too) I'm thinking that they are a very limited edition for this summer's Pirate's of the Caribbean movie.

Well, I've searched the entire new pirate store looking for some fun pirate stuff for pirate night - which I guess will be the pirates in the mediterranean! They are overhauling New Orleans Square at DL. The new pirate store is where the old Christmas store was located by club 33. Found a few fun items, but when the Pirates ride reopens there will be all kinds of new stuff... of course, it may all be with Johnny Depp's face pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate: on it! ARRRGGG
