I didn't see the news, what happened?

A coyote just walked into a Quiznos in downtown Chicago. Sat in the cooler for a while. Finally animal control came and got him. He looked so happy there! :lmao:

Hi SweetSue -

Thanks so much for the info. We have 2 DDs (4 and 6). We are considering a driver in Rome also, but not sure yet. If you still have space, let me know if you have any interest in sharing a driver for Rome. We may be able to save some $$ and the girls can keep each other busy. Thanks again.

I'm really sorry. We're just in a car, not a private van so there isn't any more room. I'm sure we'll meet up throughout the cruise though!

If you are thinking of splurging, Rome is the place to splurge!

Sue

When she called, she said to remind you to check Gordy's passport expiration date.

No problem I have the official Stuffed Thing World Traveler lifetime, world-wide passport. :thumbsup2

Also have my tux, B2B t-shirt, grass skirt, and something special for the pajama party ready to go.

Now if I can only get Dale or Bob to help make my toga I'll be set. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Gordy

(PS Bob thinks he needs to have his head examined and Dale agrees)

Why when I saw this on the news today did only one thing go through my mind.... "Did they toss out all the beverages from that cooler and restock??"

The security video of the coyote was hilarious. It was just so...calm. The two men eating were completely oblivious!

But I guess coyotes only eat chickens and cats. So no worries, now it were Subway....Hmmmmm.

Seriously! Three posts in a row...:rotfl2:

I'm eating cold fried chicken and watching TV :happytv: Robb is sleeping.

Welcome to another day closer to cruising!:woohoo:

Oh BTW, Once again the Dis podcast is pretty interesting- telling about the history of the DIS.

How many of you know what DIS stands for??

No, cheating....I will be up at 11am to check your answers.

I'm not going to answer, only because I listened and know the answer. I love listening to the podcasts every week. I can't remember a week when they didn't have me laughing too!!

Another thing that I never really understood how helpful it could be until I started this job was the DIS. Not the DISboards -- the DIS!! www.wdwinfo.com (http://www.wdwinfo.com) . I can find nearly every answer I need there.

Hey Celeste, I bet that's what everyone is doing!!! Reading at the DIS and listening to the Podcasts!!! :goodvibes :lmao: Seriously, if you want some information about Villefranche, check out one of the podcasts in October or early November (sorry I don't remember the exact date). They have someone give some information on the area of France, especially Nice. There is a part in there where I was laughing so hard my sides were splitting!!

The coyote looked way too cute and at home in the Quizno. It broke my heart to see animal control draging the poor thing out of the store the way they did. DH said they didnt hurt him, but, it sure looked like it did hurt:rolleyes:

Thanks for joining me in the cheer!!! ;)

The answer is: drum roll please

Disney
Information

The site originally started when Pete and his friends were living in different parts of the country and they were swapping info about their upcoming trip to disney. He was shocked when he noticed other people were showing up on the site. This was late 1997, early 1998- when he said the internet was new. I don't really agree that it was new at that point- see my blog for my 1992 references- that was when it was really, really new and there weren't websites like there are now.

Anyways- this class gets a D- for class participation. :sad2: I hope you will all do better on your next project. (Now I have to find one)

Gees, Peter didn't even try.

We should rename ourselves: Strangers in the night...

BTW- the coyote was taken up North (by where I live :scared1: ) and released.

Hi! I can not pm yet. I have been very busy to chat very much. We would like to attend the pj part (Joe,Shirley,Nancy), and possibly the cheese party. We are arriving in Barcelona on the 23rd of May for 3 days pre cruise. I would like to list my 6 other Disney cruises when I chat, but I do not know how. We were on the inaugral Panama west cruise 2 years ago. Joe:dance3:

Hi Pepperpike-
I will add you to the official guest list for the party- but you will still need to do the website too.

Wow! The cruise is finally getting closer! It is finally starting to seem real. I have been reading through all of the postings and there seems to be A LOT of people going on this cruise from the Tampa Bay area. Can we have a show of hands - please? Also, did any of you Tampa folks book their air through Disney? We have 10 in my group and are flying out of TIA on 5/24. (Worrying about what kind of flight they put us on is stressing me out. I want to know NOW.)

We fly out of Tampa on US Air:

May 23rd, 2007
1464 at 12:10 pm from TPA
arrive 2:32 pm in PHL

742 at 6:25 pm from PHL
arrive 8:20 am in BCN

We did NOT book through Disney as we used points to get our tickets. US Air somehow managed to bump me and my son from the first leg of the trip... they got it fixed but we are no longer in the 1st row bulkhead like we wanted...

Wlecome Joe!

If you're interested in the wine and cheese party, just let me know. It's also the grape juice and cheese party, the Roy suite tour, the general gathering, the toga party, etc. etc. etc. Basically - a have fun in a Cat 1 with the rest of the DISers. Since you can't PM yet, you can always answer here. Besides that'll get you one post closer to being able to PM!

Just edit your signature line to list all of your cruises. If you want to add the tickers like we have, that's a bit more complicated. Click on someone's countdown ticker and it'll bring you to the website to create one of your own. You just cut and paste into your signature and voila! You can even preview your signature if you want to. You can edit your signature by selecting "Quick Links" and "Edit Signature". Then just use the available stuff (or HTML if you know it) to put in whatever you want.

We got a call today from Disney telling us that the Cinque Terre afternoon excursion has been cancelled, they rebooked us on the morning one. With so many excursions in La Spezia, I'm not really surprised they decided to have just one. Did anyone else get a phone call?

Welcome all new comers.

In relation to the PJ party- I am not certain if young children are allowed. We may kindly ask that you put your little ones in the club, while you visit us. If you have an infant- this would probably be an exception. As we are trying to promote an atmosphere of relaxation- little ones a foot may decrease the atmosphere we are trying to achieve. As a mother, I understand- but your kids will probably have a better time in the club watching a movie or playing with their peers.

I am checking to see if older kids are allowed....I'll let you know.

Part of the reason is also space....

Char and Andy have been kind enough to let us use their room for the party.
I don't think their room connects to another one- plus I don't know if we have another diser on either side of them. If someone with one of the wider- but less deep Cat 3's wants to change with them- we could allow more folks.

More to follow.....

Good night everyone!

I've started a couple of group activities in Barcelona if you are interested. Ken refers to them on page 55, post 1. You can also get to Ken's list from my FAQ's on page 1, post 15.

We're also flying out on the 22nd but from MIA. I think we're the only families doing so. Most everyone is flying out on the 23rd that booked their own air.

I'm debating over Rome excursions. I want to see as much as Rome as possible but also want to see the Sistine Chapel. The Ultimate Rome tour has a 2 hour break. Do you think I"d have enough time to get there and see it. I'm sure there will be lines, but I have no idea how far the Trevi Fountain is from Vatican City. I've found maps but they are hard to read. Any suggestions?

I know that Olbia has been discussed before. We're opting not to do a Disney excursion in Olbia (at least for now). I read on another cruise board that when someone sailed into Olbia they had shuttle busses at the port to transport them to a shopping area. I was going to email Disney to see if this will also be true for our cruise but wondered if someone already had this information. I know if anyone has that information yet it will be someone from the Disboards.:thumbsup2

Welcome DisneyFN420!

We were in Rome in December and I can let you know that although it is a city, it quite a compact one. We are not bothering with any of the DCL excursions as they do not seem value for money. I'm told that the railway station is near to the port and it only takes 30 to 45 mins to get into the main Rome station (Termini). The cost should also only be around €10 return. From the Termini station you can use the basic underground system (which seems perfectly safe) to get to most of the attractions. The one main attraction we missed in December was the Sistine Chapel because we went in the afternoon and I believe they only let so many visitors in each day, so we missed out. We will therefore be making this our number one priority.

A recomendation I have made in an earlier posting is to do the hop on hop off tour. For around €20 Euros you can get a bus pass that will take you round the majority of the main attractions and you will have time to spend at each one if you want.

The Trevi fountain is on the bus tour and is in easy walking distance of the Spanish steps, the Pantheon and Piazza Venezia. Once you get to Piazza Venezia you can walk down in to the the Forum, which is an amazing site AND free. The Trevi fountain is beautiful and not at all in an area like you would imagine. It is down some side streets and once you turn the corner and see it tagged on to the back of a building it will take your breathe away.

If you do the bus tour you will also get to see Circus Maximus (not much to see but you can imagine) and it will also take you to attractions that are often missed if you try to do it yourself like Piazza Navona (another lovely square) and various other sites. You also go past the area where Brutus killed Julius Ceasar. Again, we would not have found this if we had not done the tour.

Sounds like I'm selling tickets but I'm not. Just good value for money and with limited time, this is probably the best option to take in the most sites.

We can't wait to go back there!!!!

Good morning Kim,

There should be no problems with the kiddies on the trains and certainly no problems with the tour buses. It all seemed very safe when we there. I would not go outside the Termini station (you don't need to as the main line station is in the same building as the subway station) as this area is not the nicest of places.

You should always be aware of your surroundings and never take chances if something does not look right. If we are not comfortable in a situation we always get out of there ASAP. Instinct is a strong guide and as a mom your spidey senses will be working well.

The only problem with the tour buses is the clambering that is done by people who jockey for the best spots on the top deck. If you get yourself on, and don't worry too much about where you sit at first, you will find that better seats do open up when the bus stops at the more popular sites. It only takes about an hour (I think) to do the whole loop so it may be worth staying on for the whole loop first time round so that you can get your bearings.

Hope this helps! :surfweb:

Sorry I've been remiss with updating the website. I just started a new full-time job in addition to still working part-time on-call for the old one. The extra money is great, but it's keeping me pretty busy.

I'll be updating the website today, so if you did send in info and don't see it later, you should try again.

There seems to be some confusion about how it's being updated. Nothing is automatic. I was pretty limited in what I could do on my free Verizon page. So, when you submit information, it comes to me as an email, and I manually update later. That's why I include the note on the home page that says when it was last updated. So, if you register and don't see that last updated date on the home page change, it's not that I didn't receive your information - I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Since we're getting closer, I'm going to try and make this more of a priority.

And the lanyards look great! You all are going to love them! Great job, Ken! :cool1:

I'm debating over Rome excursions. I want to see as much as Rome as possible but also want to see the Sistine Chapel. The Ultimate Rome tour has a 2 hour break. Do you think I"d have enough time to get there and see it. I'm sure there will be lines, but I have no idea how far the Trevi Fountain is from Vatican City. I've found maps but they are hard to read. Any suggestions?

2 hours is not long enough to traverse to the Vatican, take a tour and then get back. Once you enter the Vatican if you walk directly to the Sistene Chapel without stopping it will take 45 minutes. You'll still have to deal with standing in line, getting tickets, etc. The Vatican Museums also close around 3.

We ended up booking a private tour because the DCL excursions didn't cover all of the spots we wanted to see. Our private tour covers everything we wanted to see with a few additions thrown in. We also have a private tour of the Sistene Chapel.

For those that are going on their own, you can also book just a private tour at the Vatican. The tour guide will meet you right at the Vatican and you'll avoid the lines. Another option is to go at 1pm which is during lunch for most people in Rome. The lines are shorter to non-existent at that time.

We fly out of Tampa on US Air:

May 23rd, 2007
1464 at 12:10 pm from TPA
arrive 2:32 pm in PHL

742 at 6:25 pm from PHL
arrive 8:20 am in BCN

We did NOT book through Disney as we used points to get our tickets. US Air somehow managed to bump me and my son from the first leg of the trip... they got it fixed but we are no longer in the 1st row bulkhead like we wanted...

Anyone on the 742 Flight on May 24th?

I didn't get a confirmation email on either occaision(someone mentioned that they got that). HAPPY EASTER, everyone!

You better decide quickly----
The full marathon is at 50% capacity and the half is currently at 60%. I am going to try the full this year. I did four half marathons last year- and climbed the Sears Towers. I have done one half and one 5K this year. I will be doing the 15K at WDW on May 6th. (aka the Minnie) I am a wogger.

I had to laugh because I got my certificate for the WDW half this year and my husband was teasing me because of my placement overall- and for my age.....until he got his and he did worse. :lmao: :rolleyes1

I don't care if I am dead last......if I am able to finish the full in regulation time I will be estatic! I've already gotten up to 12 miles several times during my training, so I don't think the half is that unobtainable any more. Right now I'm leaning toward the Mickey!

Hi Everyone

I've come accross these trip reports from people who've cruised the Med and stopped at some of the ports we'll be stopping at. The Rome one is particularly good as it details exactly how you would do Rome 'on your own' taking the train:-

I'm unable to post the url address so go to europeportreviews.com and then look on the left hand side (scroll down) for Western Med ports then click on Rome, Naples, Barcelona, Marseille and Villefranche.

There's lots of photos to look at too!

Returning on Air France through Paris on 6 June.

I am surprised they split airlines, but am very happy with the arrangements.

Hey Everyone,
I have been looking over my excursion list and have been looking to trim off some of my high priced excursions. I have been to Pompeii before- so I am looking to do something different.

Over the weekend, I have done quite a bit of research on the Naples Bay area. I have found that there are some wonderful walks on the Amalfi coast or the Island of Capri and I am looking for someone to go walking with. As I am travelling without my spouse, my husband does not want me doing these walks alone- even though the region is relatively safe. The terminal to the hydrofoil is about 15 minutes away from where the ship comes in and it is very easy to catch a ride to either Capri, Ischea, Sorrento, or Positano. There is even a walk known as, “The walk of the Gods.” This walk takes you around the region- including the Emerald Ghrotto.

I am looking for someone or a few people who might want to join me? I have found a guide that will do tours of the region- and he even knows where the wild orchids grow in the area. Or we can do it without the guide- as the trail is well marked. Most of the trials are fairly flat and some have a few stairs. If the weather was bad- I thought about going to Sorrento and doing some window shopping or going to Ischea- and maybe getting a massage at one of the spas.

Any takers???

Also for anyone going to Capri sans DCL- I have heard that they have made it difficult to purchase picnic items there. The tour guide is quoted as saying that they do this to make it difficult for low spending day trippers to do so! They want your money. So, if you are thinking of going to Capri and grabbing a light lunch- you might want to bring something from the ship.

Is it saying that I am too new a user??

A while back, so folks were considering organizing a Florence excursion. Did anything happen with that - we have some folks out of our group of ten that may want to do Florence and might be looking to go with another group of folks. I am really struggling with what to do. For those of you that have been to Florence before - would a 5 year-old get more out of seeing Florence and a drive-by of Pisa or would time be better spent with her seeing Pisa and Cinque Terre? Decisions / Decisions. Help!!!

I have enjoyed reading about everyone's air travel plans - I guess I find our out in the morning - I know it is silly, but I can't wait.

Have a good night!

Our air arrangements were released this morning by DCL. We are pleased.

Delta Air from Atlanta to Barcelona, departing 22 May and arriving 23 May at 1100 a.m.

Returning on Air France through Paris on 6 June.

I am surprised they split airlines, but am very happy with the arrangements.
The days will drag as departure nears.

No wonder I couldn't book an economy ticket on the Air France flight! Seems like DCL has grabbed the entire plane! We decided to book late (3:30) and see Montserrat before we go.

Air France is a partner airline with Delta. They are all part of the SkyTeam alliance. They even have some codeshare flights. You will be EXTREMELY pleased wtih Air France vs. Delta. Be happy - very happy - that you're flying Air France instead of Delta.

Thanks Kelly,
I appreciate it. I was getting bummed that I hadn't had any response. I would really like to go for a walk and leisurely look around the area. The hydrofoils are pretty fast between areas and fairly cheap- I think less than 15Euros. I would even be happy with just running around Sorrento and then having a nice lunch.

I would not be comfortable going into Naples, as it is a higher crime area. In all of Italy, IT IS important to be aware of pick pockets.

Nobody needs to be worried about being stuck in Rome- there are lots and los of trains between the two areas and it is about an hour trip. You can buy your tickets in advance and even reserve your seat- or you can just get on and pay the conductor.

Hmmmm, Florence and a 5 year old.....
I haven't been to most of Rome, but not Florence before, but I have had a 5 year old. :rotfl: Is said 5 year old a boy or girl? Does said 5 year old have some form of electronic entertainment during transportation times that will keep he/she busy? I know my son probably could care less about seeing Florence, which is part of the reason he is staying home- but he probably would think it is neat to see the leaning tower of Pisa. As he has seen this on TV- he would think it was cool. I also think a child would think it would be fun to climb it an see how it leans. Just my 2 cents....

Hello everyone!

Long time no post!!!

I have been busy with getting everything ready for the first cruise, plus I'm working a few days a week as a substitute teacher to save up a little $$ for spending money.

Did everyone who wanted bracelets get them?
If not, please PM me and I'll get them right out...

Thanks to those who sent in $$ for the bracelets. It was not necessary but appreciated.

I think I have about 20-30 pages to catch up on, Hopefully by tomorrow I will finish, but by then there will be another 20 pages!:lmao:

could not get the extra night in barcelona, but did get a nonstop, so sort of a score
delta flight 94 jfk to barcelona nonstop, arrives 0735 5/23

so we can still salvage some of the day to sightsee

return bcn to paris, air france depart 6/6 1255, then air france to jfk, arriving 1810

add us to the train to rome, gary and karen, i can't see spending that much $ for something i can do myself that easily
camera and lenses packed, i guess i'll need some clothes?

If I do the hop on/off bus I will most likely join you. It is all about convincing my father that I know what I am doing and we are going to be safe and not stranded in Rome.

The hop on hop off bus is probably the best way to see a lot in one day. There are a number of companies that do this and one we used back in December was different to the company you have linked to above. We decided to go with the company we saw most buses for, as you were then guaranteed to get buses turning up more regularly. It worked out well for us in the end. We never had to wait too long for a bus. I'll do some research and let you know which company we used. You also do not need to book these tours in advance, just pay when you get on the bus.

For those taking the train in to Rome, one of the stops on the way in to the city centre is the Vatican. We would recommend jumping off here, doing all you need in terms of sightseeing and then jump on a hop on/off bus from this point. The beauty of this, is that lots of people pile off here to explore the vatican and therefore you should be able to get on and find decent seats. Once you have finished with the tour and you want to make your way back to the port, the bus even stops at Termini.

Our son toured around most of Italy on his own last year (aged 20 at the time) so there is no need for anyone to feel intimidated by the prospect of being on their own - if they want to. He is coming with us on this trip and we hope to use him as a guide for a number of the cities we will be visiting. As you can see from this site there are lots of opportunity to hook up with other people, if you don't want to be on your own.

If you do Rome on your own (I include being with others) Vs the DCL excursion, you will save mega bucks, which can then be put to use elsewhere.

Finally, I am now allowed to post URLs. We found these very helpful reports on the ports that we are visiting while doing some research. They are well worth a read and puts everything into perspective.

http://www.europeportreviews.com/MarsailleFrance.htm
http://www.europeportreviews.com/Villefranche.htm
http://www.europeportreviews.com/BarcelonaSpain.htm

When you go into these links, there are often other very useful links that explain in great detail how to get to certain places, including train stations etc.

Hope this helps!

This is the HOHO bus we used last year. As RMKD says, you can purchase these on the bus on the day. These buses are numerous and you never have to wait long to get on one.

As I mentioned in an earlier posting, you can even jump on this at the Vatican.

Don't know if this will help anyone with their choice of excursions (I have not been to Pisa) but I have been told by several friends who have been there that the tower is the ONLY attraction in this town.

We will therefore be giving Pisa a miss this time around.

Ok really leaning toward the hop on/off bus. Especially since others are going to do it. I think that will be the selling point for me to my father.

I have been shopping...
What is everyone using for a day bag? I am looking at L.L. Bean's Travel Touring Bag (http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?page=travel-touring-bag&categoryId=35996&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&parentCategory=4520&cat4=2913&shop_method=pp&feat=4520-tn) and Stowaway Pack (http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?page=stowaway-pack&categoryId=48826&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&parentCategory=9197&cat4=1098&shop_method=pp&feat=9197-tn). I have found some great travel size items at Walgreens - Toilet Seat Covers, Wipes, Static Guard, and Downey Wrinkle Release. Additionally, I found these laundry detergent gel packs at Bed, Bath & Beyond that I am going to try. My only concern is if they will make the trip in my suitcase without exploding.

Does anyone know what we are allowed to take off the ship when we go ashore? i.e. sandwiches, fruit, water, power bars, etc. I am thinking of snacks I am going to need and want when ashore and would be cheaper and healthier to bring with me than to purchase.

Where is Scoob? Oh Scoob, where are you?? You haven't posted for a while.....did you get lost in Utah??

Peter, you know you want it....you know you want that cat 10.

Thank you so much for noticing! I was out of town for 11 days between two separate trips. I had about 17 hours in between to get my act together and pack for trip 2. So, I've MISSED YOU ALL! I got on about an hour ago about page 130, I've spent since then trying to catch up since 5 more pages had been added from the time I began reading.

I'm so excited this trip is really coming up fast! However, it leads to my panic about what all has to be done to get ready! I'm already missing my dog, and I haven't even left yet.

Are we going to have a recap before we leave (or before you b2b's leave) for all the onboard activities and Barcelona activities? Or will we just list on page 55?

I thought I'd let you all know too. I got my phone bill......it was ugly. I had to call Barcelona to book our apartments for before the cruise. There are 11 of us and only two days so it took some special circumstances and working. Anyway, it cost me about $74 for about 30 minutes....so, just be careful.

BTW....anyone else booking on an interline rate? When do you think we'll get our room #'s???? :confused3

We were not quite as lucky as others to get Air France. We are booked on Delta through Atlanta direct from there into Barcelona. I am concerned about the return flight though. We are scheduled to leave on Delta at 10:00am (I thought Disney advised against scheduling this early). We go from Barcelona to JFK and then to Tampa.

I just wanted to double check as I am still on that same 10 am flight back. I was never able to get on the later Delta flight through ATL and have been torn if I need to spend another night in Barcelona.

The same thing happened to me. I could book Shari but I couldn't book myself. I ended up booking her on everything and then calling DCL and they then added me to all the same excursions. It was some problem again with the software - but it appears they knew about the issue when I called.

My stepdaughter thought that the problem in booking excursions might be related to Palo reservations. That is, due to some glitch, if you have a Palo reservation, you are no longer able to reserve excursions on line. So if the Palo reservation is in your name, you can not book it on line but other people in your party can. Not sure if anyone else has heard this.

I believe that is probably correct. That is what happened to me. Once I booked Palo - I couldn't book an excursion. I would suggest booked the spouse for all the excursion you want and then call DCL and let them add you to those excursions.

DCL said you could book flights from 10am. They don't have the same "arrive ten million hours in advance" rules in the EU as they do for the US, so it shouldn't be an issue. The very last DCL bus leaves the port at 9:30am so they expect the ENTIRE boat to clear by then. It could be a bit concering if you have late seating though since you are in the second breakfast rotation. It's possible that you could ask to skip breakfast and leave from the boat earlier if you're concerned.

Coco's wife: here is the thread for the repo cruise. there are about 11 families doing it. Also, go on Disneycruise.com to the Eastbound 14 night and the excursions are listed.

Disney explained to me it had something to do with booking spa treatments....
I believe that is probably correct. That is what happened to me. Once I booked Palo - I couldn't book an excursion. I would suggest booked the spouse for all the excursion you want and then call DCL and let them add you to those excursions.

DCL can try and explain everthing anyway they want at any given moment. We didn't book any spa treatments - so that is probably just the explaination of the day from DCL. The point is - call and make them fix your excursions - it doesn't matter why its not working, it only matters that it is not working for you and they should book your excursions manually.

I've not really had the extra time to check into the ports and what they are "known" for. Does anyone have any great buys in any of the ports? I know from watching :happytv: Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel that Amalfi has hand made paper, Sorrento has gloves and Lemonchello and Marseille has soap. Anyone else have any ideas or have you seen any other suggestions in this thread of 145+ pages?? I am planning on taking care of Christmas :santa: presents on this trip and would love to have the local favs!!

Hi Lori!

We also booked the interline rate, I'm checking everyday to see if our cabin # has been assigned. Hopefully it will be assigned, at least, 30 days prior. By the way, how are you getting to Barcelona?

Camille

Camille,

We are flying from SLC on 5/23 Delta #3 to NYC-Kennedy and flight #94 on to Barcelona.

We're staying a couple extra days on the way back; Return 6/8 on Delta #95 then from Kennedy to SLC on #1581.

We love Delta (SLC being a hub), so we're feeling okay about these arrangements. For those who have not flown across the pond before, it's an experience. We have quite a few flight miles w/Delta, so we'll be hoping for a bump to first class. We flew Alitalia last time, talk about a cattle call. Because the are codeshare partners with Delta, we got bumped to first on the way home. Here's to hoping....:cheer2:

Olive oils from all three countries are wonderful.
Provence is noted for it's lavender. You should be able to pick up plenty of lavender products in Marseille. The soap they are talking about in Marseille is olive oil soap. You'll also find other typical Provencal items.
Nice is near Grasse which is a perfume capital. Eze has a perfumerie where you can make your own scent.
New and unusal dried pastas from Italy would be interesting.
Regional wines are fun. You'll find "wines of the region" from almost every port.
Italian shoes and clothing in Rome. I believe someone here said ties were a great purchase in Rome.

Shopping for gifts will be great fun!

We've taken everything off the ship and it wasn't a problem. Maybe it's one of those it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission?:confused3

I think they worry more if it's not for personal consumption. We've ordered cookies and sandwiches at night to take the next morning.

Oh yeah all! Don't forget those ziploc bags.:dance3:

Hi Dance3

I work for the USDA and want to tell everyone that taking food such as fruits, vegetable, meat, and plants is a big no no:sad2: . You can be issued a fine. You have to relize that by bringing things off the ship you can spread plant pest, diseases or animal diseases. Just to let you know the citrus canker out break in Florida was caused by someone smuggling in prohibited oranges. So please do not be ignorant and add to a new pest outbreak.

Good Morning!!

I just wanted to share that we are actually considering doing the repo!!! We are looking at a 27 day vacation, oh my God!!! The longest we have been on vacation is 17 days and no, it wasn't enough. At this point, we are asking ourselves if we can be away for so long, will we get homesick? Will I have a job when we get back? :lmao: Anyone know where I can get information about the excursions on the repo? I am waay behind now.

:)

We are going to be away for 26 days- The crossing and first med cruise. We did the west bound Panama Canal and first West Coast cruise- 21 days- and we were too busy to be homesick. Between shipboard activities, excersions and all our disfriends, we rarely thought about home. Just get involved and have 27 days of fun.

Also, an FYI for everyone. The lady told us that it was okay to take both meat and cheese home as long as they were both sealed. This is not true. Am wondering about breakfast. From this it sounds like there is an assigned breakfast time. DH is an early riser and wants to eat when he gets up. On other lines we have had buffet for breakfast and it started at 6 AM. Please tell me this is what will happen.

Breakfast is not assigned. You can do whatever you want. I think Goofy's Galley opens either at 6am or 6:30. They have fruit and pastries. The buffet (Topsiders) usually opens at 7 am but may open earlier on days when we are in port earlier. Lumiere's is open for table service, but this usually doesn't happen until later (at least 7am).

The only days you have assigned dining (which you don't have to go to) is the last day and character breakfast day. There are alternatives both of these days for you to get something else. Hope this helps!

Thanks for asking about this! No rush needed. The month of March for me is like you describe above. Hoping April is better.

Sending warm wishes your way for a better day today. :wizard:

Today was definitely better!

Guess what - I actually had time to contact DCL today. Of course not before my very special contact was GONE FOR THE DAY. Oh well, I'll hear back tomorrow or Friday and will post the answers.

If anyone else has FAQs questions, let me know. I'll keep taking questions until they call back.

Yep, Tracy- I am at work. You can email me- my email goes to my cell phone, which is on my hip. I will get back to you right away- unless my patient comes out of surgery, then it will be an hour or so. I never know they are coming until about 10 minutes prior.....

OR

I can call you around 8pm tonight on my way home.....

OR

You can email and I can still call.

I am MAD:mad:   Iberia cancelled my flight from Madrid to Barcelona and NOW I am going to be stuck in Madrid for 8 hours.....:headache:
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Uh oh. Which Madrid to Barcelona flight?????? We're on Iberia through Madrid too (although a day earlier).

Oh nevermind. I'm losing my mind. We switched to use Delta miles rather than American miles. We're on Alitalia through Madrid, not Iberia through Milan. Geesh!

Sounds like you have a great sense of humor. I am sorry about your flight issue. With 2,000-3,000 people descending upon Barcelona just for this one cruise I would expect most if not all flights are full of cruisers. I hope something opens up for you. (no pun intended)

I FINALLY got my room assigned. I'm #5502, sister is #5500 and dad is #5504.

It figures that I'm at the end of the hall and NOBODY will see all the cute signs I've made.

And.....the front of the boat. Maybe I will need to wear the scolpamine(sp) patches after all. I thought I might just double up on the Meclizine on sea days, but the front of the boat will probably do me in...

Motion sickness got you down? I am probably the WORST for motion sickness. Hey I even got sick on the first date with the now hubby. I can't even think of the backseat of a car withut getting sick. Especially bad on ship tenders. But after years of expensive pills, patches, bracelets and meds I finally found something that worked and worked WELL with NO sideeffects.

Hylands Motion Sickness tablets. Hylands makes all sorts of fun homeopathic stuff for kids and adults. My son lives on their teething tablets! But honestly they are pretty cheep (Amazon has a place 4 boxes for $16!!) . On our last cruise I forgot I packed them until day 3 and suddenly i felt SOOOO much better. I found that the time i needed them most was at night. But definatly worth the try...they kick in pretty quick so there is no long delay and waiting to feel less queezy!

Good luck!

I'm right there with you. I have to drive to not get carsick. I haven't heard of Hylands. Can you buy them at local stores too? Meclizine has really worked for me, but the patch they say takes 24hrs. My problem is that it makes my eyes dialate so I can't see anything close with my contacts on. If I wear my glasses, I can't be out in the sun. Double whammy....Grrrr:eek:

C,

Did you book that rate yourself? I was told that interline rate was guaranteed Cat. 8 or better. We're calling today to see if they'll bump us up to a Cat. 7 and get somewhere in the middle of the ship.

If not, I may be O.D'ing on Meclinzine. If I'm that asleep....Please nobody throw me overboard....:lmao:

Is anyone else going to train into Florence???? (I may need help carry Tracy's cheese and vinegar back) I've been there, don't want a guide. I don't think my kids want to do all the museums, but it is an amazing city.

You can buy them at health food stores normally. I know that Wild Oats and Whole Foods carry them...itf they don't stock them they can order. We have Amazon Prime so we get free shipping so it makes it a better deal for me.

I understand completely though. Nothing like puking your guts out everywhere you go. I am working on sitting in the backseat of the minivan with the front seat headrest off... so far... not so good! :( Everyone in the family understands. So I will be fighting for the front seats on all tour busses! :)

Find me on the ship and I can share some of my stash if things get rough :)

Motion sickness: Try to start taking your meds a few hours before you get on the ship. They work better at preventing symptoms- rather than stopping symptoms.

Other alternatives are ginger tabs, ginger tea, sucking on a piece of ginger root, or ginger soda. (I am alternative friendly)

I tried the scopolamine patch last cruise- not only were my pupils dialated- but my mouth was like the saraha. I decided I would rather be sick- It was horrid.

I am fond of zofran for nausea- that stuff works wonders! It won't make your motion sickness go away, but it really does help with nausea. I think it can be pretty expensive and you do have to get a prescription.

What's NOT to love!!! :) I get MAD when I shop Amazon and what I want can't be bought through prime!!! We are bad with Amazon though. My DH just ordered a ga-gillion bars of soap and dove hand soap pumps. We hunt the bargins and coupons and get great deals for our "hurricane buckets".

Hurricane bucket=what goes in house during a storm and in the car if we evacuate.

Okay..on a different note... just flipping channels on tv and jeff foxworty just told a lady on that show "are you smarter than a 5th grader"... "It looks like the light in your easy bake oven is flickering!" I almost fell off the sofa!

Hi everyone. We are in Rooms 2122, 2124, 2132 and some other number I can't remember. Are these Hyland's motion sickness pills something like Humprhey's teething tablets? There were a homeopathic remedy that woorked great for our daughter.
