Camera gear when splitting stay.

What do all you photogs do with your gear if you split stays. I'll be at Pop for 2 nights then RPH for 4 nights then driving to the Gulf. I'll have a rental car but this will be in April. It may be too hot to leave the gear in the car. On the switch from POP to RPH we will be going to a water park. Leave gear at front desk? In car? We're talking about $3000 or so in gear. Thanks.

Could you take it with you and lock it in a locker while you're at the water park? You're right - I think it would get too hot in the car. And I'd be very nervous having it get transported with the rest of the luggage.

I'd take it with me. Put it in a locker at the waterpark if you all wanted to swim at once, but no way would I leave it in a car--nothing to do with heat, more for security/theft issues.

My only problem with the locker is we will all be on the go the entire time at the park. I'd be worried silly there. I could split the gear up. Body with lens in locker. Couple lenses in the car wrapped in a towel. The rest of the gear back at the hotel. ????? Do the hotels have a more secure storage other than the room next to the lobby desks? Thanks

I wouldn't split it up. To my knowledge, they have smallish safety deposit boxes at the front desk, but nothing large enough for a gear bag. That would go in the luggage room. I'll be honest, I've shecked my laptop locked in my suitace with a combination lock with them and never thought twice about it. Maybe put your gear in a larger suitacase and check it? Throw the dirty laundry in the car trunk...

I'm having the same kind of problem, timkin. I have a race in July up in San Jose, CA and I'll be staying immediately next door to the track this year. It doesn't make a lot of sense to rent a car, just to park it in the hotel lot for $20 a day, since I can take public transport to the airport at the end of the weekend. BUT, I don't know what to do with my photo backpack while I'm at the track watching the race on Sunday. I don't shoot that day, just sit in the stands, but the bag is so extraordinarily heavy, that I do not want to lug it around or have it hogging up foot space in the grandstands. But, I also don't want to leave $5000 worth of gear in the luggage room of the hotel. Might need to rent a car, just so I can put my gear in the trunk that day. Seems a waste of money, though. Just can't figure out any other good options.
