98% of the teenage population does or has tried smoking pot. If you're one of the 2% who hasn't, copy & paste this into your signature.
Quite a few of you have this in your signature. The problem with this is that it us just plain wrong. According to the Office National Drug Control Policy fewer than 45% have ever tried Marijuana. Here is the study (http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/drugfact/marijuana/index.html).
What is important to realize is that using these incorrect statistics actually promotes drug use, rather than prevents it. If people see that 98% of them use drugs, then they are much more likely to want to try them as they think everyone else is doing it, therefore I should too. If they see the real number that shows that fewer than 45% have ever tried them and fewer than 20% have tried them in the last year, it makes not trying a much easier choice.

Thank you. I always thought those were way overblown. If 98% had tried it, everyone and their brother would have tried it. :confused3
And yes, it does promote drug use in a way. If everyone thinks 98% have tried it, they might want to try it because they thing that's the cool thing to do.
Thanks for clearing that up for people. :thumbsup2

You are welcome, even if you are a State fan. :) Go Blue! (My brother lives in A2 and is a UMich grad and now has a fairly well know restaurant there.)

Lol. I like them both actually. How that is possible, don't ask me. I seem to defy the rivalry rules. :confused3

Where do you actually live? While Ann Arbor always took pity on the unfortunate State fans, being a Michigan fan in East Lansing used to be a capital crime. :)

Funny, if anything ONDCP's study overstates teen drug use.
