Is anyone concerned about going to WDW since the US airstrikes ??? Or the Anthrax outbreak in Florida? I am supposed to be going on Oct 24th and I have friends who say "Are you crazy to be going at this time?"
What does everyone else think?? Do you think that the threat of a terrorist attack is less likely because all the security is so tight now? Or do you think that terrorist will strike back within the US/ Because of whats going on in their country??

We are leaving on October 25 - I too share your concerns; however, I think we will go along with our plans because I feel that this "war" (for lack of a better term) is going to be a very long drawn-out affair. I am wondering how long we should put our lives on hold - one month - one year - longer? I think we would be playing right into the terrorists hands if we all stayed home. I too am hearing things like "I would never fly now" - "Leave Canada for the States - you must have a screw loose" - etc. etc. I am trying not to let these comments bother me because I know they are all said due to the unknown and it is not something we can do anything about.
Re the Anthrax scare - apparently this is something that arrived at this business through the mail approximately a week prior to the Sept 11 attacks. You have to come in direct contact with Anthrax to contract it - I do not think that it will be an issue - I could be wrong but I don't think we have to worry about that.
As far as whether or not there will be more terrorist attacks on the US since they have attacked Afghanistan - I think it is more than a possibility. Again though, I feel they will target places which would have more of an economic impact than if they hit Disney World. If they did target Disney - there would be outrage and horror - but in the grand scheme of the country's economy - I don't think they would accompish as much as they did in hitting the twin towers.
Oh well - sorry for going on a bit - but I know what you are feeling and I think we have to do as much as we can to keep our economy going. Have a great time in Disney!

Hi
I will go to dw in my newly bought dvc on feb 28 to march 8 2001 and nothing and nobody will change my mind for the 41 years to come.
Don't forget that the medias make their money in scaring people and 90 % of what they say is inflated to the maximum just to sold their salad. I don't beleive that it is more risky to travel now or later, than before.
Don't stop living, believe in life.

Actually everyone in my family feels we should still go. So all our plans for Dec. are going ahead.
My parents stay in Florida every winter and plan to do so again this year. When I expressed concerns about going out of Canada at this time my mom said you can't just sit at home and wait for something to happen.
And ironically my sister feels that after Sept. 11 nothing is gauranteed in life so you have to live your life now. She is also going to WDW at the same time with her 2 teenage daughters.
My 2 children are also teens and they have no worries about going. They are well informed about what is going on all over the world - if they were afraid I certainly would not expect them to go.
Enjoy your vacations and bring home lots of good memories.

We are planning our April 2002 wdw trip with NO plans to cancel BUT ~ we were talking about a Dec 2001 trip too. About a week ago, I would say to myself GO, HAVE FUN! But now that Dec is approaching I am starting to share the concerns of others about going in Dec. I think I'll sit on the fence post for a few days longer before booking anything! BTW, any one getting a good airfare for Dec? I've been scanning the sites. THX

I am going in November. I am going to drive down for the first time. You can stay on Disney Property for 40 bucks a night (US). I know someone who just returned from Universal and there was no wait time to get on rides. This may be the best time for Canadians to go considering the deals and our weak currency.

Hi! I have a $49 US rate at the ASMovies and I thought that was the best I could do - where have you found the $40 rate? Thanks!

I got them off of this site. www.wdwinfo. There is the Best Western Lake Buena Vista, The Grosvenor Resort at Downtown Disney and the Courtyard by Marriott - Downtown Disney .

Do you mean the Swan hotel as in the Walt Disney World Swan? If so - is this a rate that is only good for you or do you think is it something anyone could get? Can you give me more details!!! Please!!! We are on a budget so any little bit will help! Thanks Shamu!

There is one catch to these low rates. They are usually for monday to Thursday only. The hotels I have checked, there rates go up big time. What I am planning to do is stay somewhere off site (THere are tons of choices in Kissimee) on the weekends and then during the week, stay on site at a nice hotel. I don't think you will see these rates for a long time to come, so take advantage of them.

We leave this coming Sunday (oct.21) to drive to wdw. We had to cancel our original reservations for Sept. 15. I am concerned and will keep an eye on the news while we are there. If anything happens we will hit the road and head north.
Pete.
