View Full Version : San Diego hotel?
A question for the locals...
We're spending the first week of our 2-week vacation at DL, and the second week in San Diego. On the San Diego leg, we want to take it easy and be able to relax in our hotel. We prefer to have accommodations that have a separate bedroom for our 2 DDs as they go to bed promptly at 8 pm. I have found good reviews for Residence Inn Mission Valley/Seaworld. A two-bedroom kidsuite with full kitchen runs about $200/night. Has anyone stayed there? Are there any other 2-bedroom hotels with good amenities you would recommend in the area? $200 is the maximum I'd like to spend per night. We are willing to move out of San Diego proper, but we will be flying out of that airport at the end of the trip.
Thanks :)

Those are some pretty good rates for what you get. I always reccomend an Embassy Suites for families out here.
But, should you be so inclined, you can always get a 2 bedroom suite at the resort I manage, Pechanga. We are a 4 diamond resort casino in Temecula which is about 1 1/2 hours from sea world.

There's a Holiday Inn and Suites on Sports Arena Blvd. Didn't have 2 bedrooms, but had a separate living room with its own TV as well as fridge and microwave. A Baker's Square restaurant was on the grounds where kids ate free and lots of other good restaurants close by.

We liked the catermeran hotel. While it was not ocean front, it was bayfront and cross the street from the ocean on misson bay. It has been years since we have stayed at the Bahia hotel, also bay front, cross the street ocean as well. The recent reviews seemed to be mixed. My suggestion is to check out tripadvisor for recent reviews. Had found some great deals on getawaytoday.org

I love Bahia and Catamaran is great if you get a bay front view. I ended up in a back building and it was so run down and dirty! That hotel has great to terrible rooms.

The Blue Seas Lodge or something like that in Mission or Pacific Beach is supposed to be a good one. It's right on the beach.

Be very careful with Welk. Is is far and away NOT a family resort depsite appearances. This resort is built by and made for the Leisure World crowd. They have their own stage as well that plays to the older crowd. This resort belongs in Branson, MO.

The Hotel Del Coronado is fabulous. If you want the ultimate Southern California beach front hotel experience, this is it.
I'll see you on the repo!

The Loews is beautiful and is beachfront too (Coronado Cays) but it is the bay side. They have a lot of activities for the kids in the summer like campfires and watching movies projected on the wall while you swim.
You can also do a sleepover on the Star of India. It's not exactly beachfront but more on the water. Bring your parka and your egg crate bed pad for your sleeping bag. The kids have a fantastic time.
I am not familiar with La Jolla except that the beaches are what San Diegans consider a must do.

We prefer the Residence Inn La Jolla. Recent remodel and away from downtown. About a 10 minute drive to SW and 20 minutes to the Zoo. We live about 2 hours away and stay here everytime.
