A lot of people (especially me!) are so excited to see the Lord of the Rings books come to the big screen. The first one (Fellowship of the Rings) opens on December 19th, 2001 and looks to have no other competition. Here are some images:

I dont understand why they are releasing the second book of the trillogy first. The Hobbitt gives all the backropound needed to truely understand the story and it explains where the ring came from.....and we all know the hobbit was the best out of all three!

Yes I have! Me and my uncle are totally excited about the movie. We were both disappointed that the Hobbit was not being made but the Hobbit himself is the main character the first movie accourding to New Line.

It looks great!! :D
I'm very ashamed of the fact that I've never read the books. :( I've owned them since I was about 7, and they've just been sitting on my bookshelf ever since. I think I'll actaully start reading them after I've seen the movie, then I can't complain about them changing the story or dumbing it down :D

Read the Hobbit before you see the movie! Then you'll understand the whole thing rather than being clueless :D I can guarantee the movies will be based on the books but far from the actual books......thats what movies do to books lol.

Moose, a hobbit is a mythical creature. There isnt just one hobbit. The first movie being released is based on the first book( the first of the trillogy) featuring Frodo Baggins the nephew of Bilbo who was the main character of the first novel(the hobbit which is a prelude to the trillogies)). So yeah there are hobbits in the first movie! From what I've seen of previews of this movie it looks like they have kind of mashed the first novel and the prelude, The Hobbit, together creating a not so accurate recreation of the first book of the trillogy.
BTW any of you who enjoyed any of the Lord of the Ring novels(or the hobbit) check out all of J.R.R. Tolkiens other stuff. He was probably the best fantasy writer to date......and I'm sure he will hold that spot for ages to come.

INTERESTING COMMENTS.....;)
Hope you all enjoy the movie coming soon. The three animated versions of the J.R.R. Tolkeins books "The Hobbit", "Lord of the Rings" and "Return of the King" are on DVD from WB Homevideo.

Moose, the trillogy consists of The fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. The Hobbot is a prelude(prequil) to the trillogy. You guys really need to catch up on your reading! :p
I know I said this before but if you're interested in Toliens trillogy at all, you really need to pick up some of his other work!
I've never read any of those books. I don't like JRR Tolkien either. He wrote Stranger in a Strange Land right? Well, my 7th grade reading and writing teacher suggested it to me, and it was awful. I don't know how I got 3 pages into it. And even though it's in that Billy Joel song We didn't start the Fire, it's still bad.

Stranger in a Strange Land was writen by Robert A. Heinlein. You cant confuse garbage like that to Tolkiens writings! I do however enjoy Heinleins garbage :)somewhat, but he's no Tolkien. Heinleins book are borderline fantasy.....theyre more science fiction.......and dont compare to tolkiens work.....I mean the two shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence!

Uhhhh I didnt see anyone mention they dislike Tolkien. You really should read a book before you decide you dislike it.......espescially when it's concerning one of the best authors of all time.

Ahhhhh thanx moose I didnt even know there were animated versions. Are they well animated movies or are they cheesy? I could see someone like McFarlane taking those stories and making some excellent animated films but I have a feeling they didnt get the attention they deserved. Are these movies available at blockbuster?
