Me too. Somewhere in Seville is a shawl and a fan with my name on it! It would be nice to know what the bus schedule is though, so I know how many opportunities I have to get back to port.
My thoughts exactly!
Found the schedule from Seville to Cadiz on a helpful site:
Cádiz2.5 hrs.7:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:0010 €16 €
16E Roundtrip is not bad.
The site is Explore Seville. http://www.exploreseville.com/transport.htm
link to regional bus. It has lots else - perhaps where to find that shawl!

And here is the train schedule. 9 Euro each way.
Cádiz2 hrs. 6:50, 7:55, 9:00, 10:00, 10:56, 11:55, 13:20, 13:58, 15:30, 17,00, 18:00, 19:55, 20:00, 21:359 €
So - there is a bus back every hour and a train often enough.

I'm trying to decide if an over-the-door shoe organizer would really come in handy for this two week cruise. Any opinions out there?
also, if you plan on doing laundry, will you buy on the ship or bring your own?
ellen
We are bringing the over the door shoe organizer. It always comes in useful. I pick one up at the dollar store and then throw it away when the cruise is over.
We are doing our laundry on board. (Actually, DH will be doing it.) :thumbsup2 We picked up laundry gel tabs at Bed Bath & Beyond. It was a box of 20 for $12.99.

But am I alone in feeling paranoid and anxious every time I step off the ship that it will leave without me?? Maybe I just need to cruise more often to get over it :confused3 :rolleyes1
Ellen, I have found the over the door shoe hanger to be very useful in containing the clutter, and I will be bringing one. I will bring at least some detergent, but that stuff is so heavy!

Hi Jennifer, It's quite a coincidence that you mentioned the laundry tabs. I was just in Bed BAth & Beyond a couple of days ago and saw the box. I was tempted to get it. looks so easy....just throw the whole tab into the laundry and the plastic case dissolves. My concern was that a few of the boxes had loose liquid in them. makes me wonder if the casing can hold up for traveling. It helps that the tabs can go in carry-on. Do you have any experience traveling and using these tabs?
BTW, my DH also does the laundry for the family.

I'm really glad to see so many girls ages 10 -12 going on this cruise. I would love for my DD to make friends on this cruise and have girls to hang out with. When we get closer to cruising time, it would be great to set up a meet and greet for them.
My DD loves hanging out at the Oceanneers Lab. Would that be a good place to meet. Does everyone else's DDs like the Lab?
ellen
If any of these 10-11 year old girls have access to email, pm me and maybe we could get the kids talking before the cruise. That would sure help melt the ice as well as add to the anticipation.

We have never used the laundry gel tabs before. On our 1st cruise we used Tide laundry tablets, but they have since stopped making them. Since, I have just measured out powdered laundry soap in baggies. It always looked like drugs in the bag. I decided since we had to go through customs in another country, that may not be the best idea. My DH saw these and told me about them. So we picked up a box and a package of the dryer balls. I plan on keeping them in the box they came in, and then putting the box into a zip lock bag. Hopefully this will keep everything contained in case of a mishap.

i put measured powder detergent in "seal-a-meal" bags (yes, i still have a seal-a-meal) and was never asked any questions thru customs--but had to also bring a small scizzors to open the bags. . .remember the washers (and probably your loads) will be a bit smaller than home--and you don't want powder residue on your clothes so better to go a little less than more in the bags. i also used a powder that wasn't pure white (had blue crystals--looked less suspicious in my mind!) :laundy:

Got up really early to book the trips - 8am here in the UK!
Have booked palo brunch/dinner/high tea
Have mangaed to book one trip - Catamaran in Tenerife, but the trip in Cadiz that we wanted to the horse school doesnt seem to be listed anymore, and the City Under Seige in Gibralta is listed as not being available, I cant beleive it is fully booked already!!
We also tried to book for our DS13 to go on the Wild side at Castaway Cay but it said as there was no adult we couldnt book it. Will try and ring DCL later today and see what they can do.
Also booked the Rasul - have only booked once, I hope that covers both of us.
Seems real now - only 15 weeks to go.

We really want to do the City under Seige also. Disney only puts so many "slots" available online to book. The rest you have to wait to book once onboard. Everyone does the "ressie rush" once they board. I think Disney should just put everything online so people can take care of their excursions and not have to worry about it once they get to the ship! We must all be to busy to post and plan. I hope we all find time to cruise. :rotfl2:
Congrats on your early booking. I hope they are just holding out on some of the excursions till the masses book. We had considered the horses as well in Cadiz, but I we are now tetering on Seville on our own or the flaminga. Sad to say we have not even sat down together in quite some time to discuss it. I guess we had better get on the ball. maybe I should go ahead and pay off the cruise as well.
Speaking of paying off the cruise. Did anyone else get a notice of double points till June on Disney CC? I did not, but my sister did. I am gonna pay off with that and rack up some points.:cool1:
Well happy planning all.

I got some promotional that said that you got 4x(?) the points for qualifying purchases over $2000. Who spends that much on groceries and gas? :sad2: Completely useless.
would love to hear from anyone else who booked excursions over the weekend. for those of us who are booking 90 days out, any info would be appreciated.

My DH rang DCL yesterday and was told that the city under seige tour was sold out and they could not see the Horse school one at all. I cannot believe the tour is sold out if only conceiage have been able to book at this stage. I mailed Dreams yesterday and they are looking into it. Hopefully it will just be an issue with the booking system - from reading other posts it does not seem uncommon!
Hope everyone else gets what they want - if trips are sold out already you need to be on line on the dot on the day it opens up.

didn't get anything about double points either....would be really cool if it's true....guess I should go ahead and pay it off

I did some research on Gibraltar (I was so confused by the various tour options and unhappy about the length of time spent at some of the locations). If you can't get the "City Under Siege" Tour, it's possible to do all the same elements on your own:
I contacted the Tourist Board of Gibraltar and got the following response from them: (Note: All costs are in Pounds Sterling, which is currently around $2.00 US for comparison purposes)
"(1) For your information, taxis wait outside the Cruise Ship Terminal ready to transport cruise ship passengers on either guided tours of Gibraltar or to the destination of their choice. The cost to the cable car station may be around £5 to £7 for this journey.
2) The cable car currently costs £8.50 per adult and £4.50 for children. There is an additional cost of £8 per adult for entrance to the Nature Reserve which includes the following :
St Michael’s Cave
Apes’ Den
Military & Heritage Centre
Great Siege Tunnel
Gibraltar a City Under Siege Exhibition
3) If you were to take a taxi tour of Gibraltar, you would miss out on the Cable Car as the taxi tours are conducted in minibuses. With regards to other attractions, please see the attached document for further information. You may also find it helpful to visit www.visitgibraltar.gi

Bottom line seems to be that DCL's costs are not too bad, UNLESS you have a child 10-12; you pay Adult cost to DCL for them, but they're really only 1/2 price at any of the attractions. For us, taking a cab on our own and just paying the admissions for the Cable Car and the Nature Reserve may be a more attractive option, given that we can follow our own timeline rather than locking into DCL's two-hour window to return to the ship using their shuttle.
Hopefully this will be of some help to others with their planning. Sorry for the length!!!!

Hi Arlene, this info really does help. I am also trying to decide between doing the DCL excursion or doing it on our own. I was concerned that being on disney's timeline might not work for us if we wanted to spend more time at any one of the stops. We have a 10 year old daughter and that's where we would get hosed on the price of the excursion. On the other hand, according to a couple of people on cruisecritic, the line for the cable car can get long. I thought doing the DCL excursion might eliminate the wait....but I'm only guessing here.
thanks for doing the research.
has anyone else decided what they will be doing for this?
ellen
I called DCL yesterday to see if they could tell me which excursions are sold out or have been cancelled. the rep could not help me cause I'm not eligible to book excursions yet....at least that's what she told me.
we know city under seige is sold out (mentioned earlier in a post). has anyone heard anything about any of the other excursions?
thanks, ellen

Following my earlier post where I advised that we had been told the City under Siege had been sold out. We contacted Dreams, and and they have come back and said that there is a problem with the DCL system and the from what i understand the excursion is not sold out and also the Horse School one should be there. DCL are working on the system and will be booking us on once this is sorted.
The info above re doing it on your own certainly looks good too though, so may consider that.
Thanks

I have just logged onto the DCL website and the two excursions that I was looking at booking are now showing with availability. There are a few that are showing 'no reservations available'
Barcelona
Chocolate Musuem
Gothic Quarter Walking Tour
Cadiz
White Villages of Andulacia
Gibralter
Ocean Odyssea Sailing Charter
However, as with the two I was looking at I would be very surprised if these are actually sold out or just having trouble with the booking system.
Will take a look later in the week and report if any change - when can the next set start to book?

Hello and welcome. If you are nuts then most of us be as well.:rotfl2: Is this your first or second on DCL?
As for the excursions. I suspect that they will hold spots as they have in the past. I am numb with all this planning. I have never felt like this before. I do not know if it is because of the magnitude of this trip or that I am just an old hat at doing this now. No matter what, I will be glad to be on that ship. I must confess, I am nervous about 14 days and getting bored. Hopefully I will have met up with a few of you all and DCL will have plenty of activities that the time will fly by.:woohoo:

It is overwhelming because of the decisions and the 'once in a lifetime' feel this trip has for me.
We are not 'excursion' people...LOL...so after doing some research, have decided to do most things on our own or with a small group of friends.
I know the first week will be hectic but then we have 6 days of relaxation and for me anyway! TIME to do all those shipboard activities that I say "Gee, I wish I could fit that in!"
Someone posted about resies for tea at PALO - something I haven't done but will so this trip.
The adult series, the cooking stuff, behind the scenes ship tours, hanging a the Cove Cafe....I can't wait!
Edit...welcome EastYork!
14 weeks to go.:cool1:
I'm also thinking of this cruise as a "once in a lifetime experience". I think we all will have a Magical time. My family and I like the excursions and it does feel a bit overwhelming doing the planning. looking forward to the many sea days. I'm sure disney will have lots for us to do and we'll have the time to do it all.
the eastbound repo cruise leaves tomorrow. can't wait to read all about their experiences. I think we will benefit from all that they have to say and it should help make the planning easier for us.

Have you noticed that cat 12s are now available at A REALLY GOOD RATE!!!!!!!!(Iv changed our cat 10 to 12,saved a couple of 1000s$,REALLY pleased)
In fact cat 12s on all the med cruises seem to have gone down in price considerably-check the DCL web page!

Great find. We are in a cat 11, but we are up on deck 7. And I love that location. Very close to sercret deck 7, since we don't have a verandah. :( I hope they drop the price for cat 11's too.

you got me excited i was thinking about doing a back to back once i heard about the good prices, so i went to dcl website and for the aug 8 cruise they wanted 9,200 dollars for three people. i changed my mind real quick i will just do the transatlantic. the trans has really good prices for cat 12

Thanks for the infor on Cat 12. My DD is booked in 11, and could cruise for half the cost in a 12.
QUESTION - I made a request to my TA to switch it - got an email saying "due to high volume we may not get right back to you . . ." or something like that.
Could I book on the DCL page and then transfer it to my TA and cancel the existing reservation at that time? She has saved for this cruise from her salary as a first year school teacher, and to lower the price by $1700 is a really big amount for her. (as it is for most of us).

It was late afternoon when I emailed my TA (DU) about the change from an 11 to 12 for DD. Well, I just got home, checked her record on their webpage, and they made the change already!!!!
She saves about $1700 - Dreams Unlimited has always provided me with great service, and this one was purely in the customer's best interest.

I hope the system is up promptly at 3:00 and that it does not crash.Out here it'll only be 1am, and that's not too far past bedtime on a weekend. I really only have one excursion that I am determined to book. I have no real preferences for Palo, and can't even get DH to talk about it, so I'll book whatever is open AFTER I book my excursion! Spa? Whatever, probably not.

Hi Karen,
It really stinks that you were not notified of this change. Is it possible that some who needed a handicapped room booked the cruise and disney had to take it away from you? also, i would think that it would be disney's responsibility to notify your TA and your TA should have notified you. Can you call disney directly to see what happened?
I hope you don't cancel because of this. maybe 8046 will turn out to be a nice room. won't your family be disappointed. Our DDs just started emailing each other and I know melanie is looking forward to meeting hannah.

We were a little concerned that it would be too long - but the 10 and 11 night cruises are so busy with all the ports of call - at least we'll have the opportunity to try and spread some of the shore excursions, especially since we plan to party till late on DD 21st. Bigger concern is getting back to reality at the end of the cruises.

We had the 11-night Med and Transatlantic booked to celebrate onboard, added the 10-night Med yesterday. Looked at flying home or staying in Barcelona for the 10 nights between our original cruises, just makes sense to stay aboard. And it ended up as this long cruise .... BUDDY and I are still going, We are listed on page 1, but there is a 3 after his name. We can't figure out what that means.:confused3
We are also paid in full (if you don't count that rather large balance on my Disney Visa:scared1: ). We looking to book our excursions and Palo this weekend.:thumbsup2 We have also been debating the cost savings of rebooking from an 11 to a 12. Buddy needs to bring a mobility scooter or a wheelchair, so we are afraid to lose the handicapped room (and our shipboard credits!!).
BUDDY hasn't been feeling well so we've been lurking rather than contributing.
I am looking for GOOFYGUY. He's also listed on page 1. He was on the last cruise Buddy & I took and he's got a great sense of humor.:lmao:

35 nights onboard, I'm jealous:thumbsup2 . Seriously, since the cruise includes food, accomodations, entertainment, and transportation all over the Med, it is probably cheaper to do this than to stay on land for the same period of time.

Correct. It is cheaper - we looked at flying back to the USA for the 10 days and had actually booked a hotel in Barcelona for the 10 nights. But once you add food, transfers etc it is far more expensive to stay on land. And we don't have to disembark and re-embark either.

We were planning on spending the 10 night's between the two cruises in Barcelona but decided to stay onboard and use the 10-night cruise to celebrate our DD's July College Graduation (UK University) on the 10-night instead of incorporating it with her 21st on the 11-night.
DCL was amazed and said it's a record - we will be aboard the Disney Magic for 35 consecutive days (28th July to 1st September 2007)!!!
We are soooo excited :yay:
Congradulations on such a wonderful vacation and your daughter graduating from college. What a wonderful way to end on chapter and begin another in all your lives. Have a wonderful, wonderful time!:thumbsup2

Does anyone have an idea as to how many young adults are aboard around our DD's age - turning 21 on the last 11-night cruise. She loved the Teen-club when she was younger and felt very disappointed after she turned 18 and had nothing available to meet other's her age. We were on the Eastbound Panama and after mentioning the situation to the Cruise Director, he discussed the situation with her and the 'College Club" a venue and time for 18-25's to meet was born ..... wonder if it's still going. As this is her celebration cruise we'd really like to make sure she has a good time!

Hi all,
Stayed up to watch the Magic arrive into Tenerife via webcam. I've loaded the video onto youtube the URL is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG6UUWtsNa0
So how many people stayed/got up at 3am to book Palos etc today?
got up at 2:45am and started booking at 2:58am. got my first reservation, things were slow but working. then around 3:12am the system crashed, I was just about to confirm my second reservation. couldn't get back in till 3:52am but was able to book everything. finished up around 4:20am. right now there is still alot available.

It has been up and down since about 4am when I started booking for my inlaws. I could not logon with their ressie number but I could get (I think) their excursions using my ressie since we are linked. I am still trying to book their Palo's and one more excursion. While they have been down I scan the disboards!!!
Good Luck!

After a long and drawn out process, I was able to get my PALO Brunch & Dinner, and my excursions booked. A survey kept popping up every time there was a system error, so of course I used that opportunity to express my frustration using the DCL web site to book anything.
From reading these boards, it appears the system is always down or experiences lots of errors on days and times when customer demand is high. From what I have experienced with Disney, they should be able to see this pattern, prepare for the higher demand for service, and solve this problem.:headache:
Now that I'm done ranting................ We booked 3 excursions. Due to my couch-potato tendencies and BUDDY's health, we chose mild activites. We are taking the bus tour in Barcelona and 2 winery tours in Cadiz and Tenerife.
I am pleased since on our 1st Disney cruise, we booked last minute and didn't paticipate in any excursions. We booked a couple of taxi tours and shopped. I hope to learn a little more about the world this time, even if it is a Disney-approved verision!

I have been on and mostly off trying to take care of my inlaws. Finally after 4 1/2 hours, I am finished. The Palo ressies weren't their first choice but I was able to get both a brunch and dinner. I was able to get their excursions. I booked our excursions last week after they upgraded us to a cat3.
I did not have this problem with the 10 day cruise last week. I took care of us and my in laws. I got up at 3 and was back in bed by 4:30am. There were more excursions on that one.
I did not receive any invites to do a survey. Pity, I am tired and I could have expressed my frustration , too.

I took me until 4:20, but I did it!
Good luck to everyone trying to book their ressies!

I started a little before 4 this morning to book my in laws excursions and Palo. The site was up and down for what seemed like forever. It too would crash as soon as the excursion would be almost complete. Once I received a message that the excursion was booked. I was bummed for my in laws. But around 7:30am the site started to work correctly, slow but it stayed up. I tried their excursion, again, and it was available. Who knows????? I am extremely tired and frustrated; especially since I will not be able to get back to bed until tonight. Pity my family.

I have a very kind and helpful DCL agent on the phone with me right now. She was able to ascertain that the one ressie where it crashed at the end actually did take, and she managed to get me another one before the system whacked out on her. YES!!! I have not gotten on.
Have resigned myself to the idea that this vacation will not be made or broken by one reservation.
I wimped out at midnight - - when I adopted the above philosophy - and got on at 9 AM. Failing repeatedly, called DCL. The CM said everyone there was on the phone with someone trying to get on - that the system was down. She said that usually it takes 2 hours to get it going (I guess they have experience with this!) so try back.
GOOD LUCK!!

We will be doing Barcelona on our own, as we are arriving several days early.
We plan to tour Gibraltar with a *large* group of friends rather than book Disney's offerings. That place is so small, how hard could it be?
We booked Seville on Your Own in Cadiz.
In Tenerife, we are doing the jeep tour with the same company that Disney is offering through, but we have a large enough group that we could book our own tour, at less than Disney is asking.
We're splitting up in Castaway Cay, parasailing and kayaking. Last time we tried this the weather didn't cooperate and both excursions were cancelled. Hoping for a better outcome this time.

Since we'll already be on aboard from the previous two cruises (last 11 & 10 Meds) - onboard would probably be best for us maybe after the lifeboat drill .... need to check we may have a shore excursion that day (Aug 18th) - have to find my list's, what an ordeal trying to keep track of the 3 cruises and what we're doing.;)

barcelona: fat city bike tour (not thru disney)
gibraltar: walking tour but might cancel and do the rock totally on our own

castaway cay: kayaking and parasailing

anybody doing this one in gibraltar?
In Gibraltar, we took the taxi tour for 30 euros per person. You just have to check the many taxis around the pier and negotiate a price. It was a 2 hour tour and we visited the Pillars of Hercules (overlook to African coast - about 10 minutes), St. Michael's Cave (about 30 minutes), a place where there were a lot of Barbary apes (about 15 minutes), the Great Siege Tunnels (about 30 minutes). After that we were dropped off in the town's main shopping area. There was a shuttle to the ship (I believe for 1 euro) but since it wasn't too hot we just walked (took about 20 minutes). The cost of the tour included the admission tickets to St. Michael's Cave and the Great Siege Tunnels.
Two things to be aware of: 1.) The lines for the cable car up to the Gibraltar sights are long and 2.) It's a long, hilly walk from one sight to another on the mountain. Plus the roads are very narrow so I would definitely recommend a taxi tour.

My older DD and I did this a few years ago and we had a blast. The younger DD and DH were a little envious I think, and it's the only must-do on their list. She is the same age now as her sister was then, I know she'll be fine.
Keene sandals will be brought along for this one. They hike, they wade, they wash up fine.

i read this also in cruise critic and gave it some thought but don't think we will go for this. i think the cable cars is part of the experience of doing the Rock and hopefully if we get an early start there will not be any lines. also we are the only cruise ship in port that day. this should help cut down on number of tourists. also, don't want to be tied down to time limit in any of the stops. want to do each one at our own pace. am thinking about hitting the lower section of st. michael's cave...down to the underground lake. this would take more than the alloted time. and if there is a bit of walking between each level, then we will deal with it. walking is good exercise. so might just catch a taxi from the port and back.

ejw, my DD12 and I really enjoyed it. You take the tram, then walk. We walked to a couple of scenic overlooks and then down through the mangroves to the beach where they store the kayaks. We paddled for what seemed like a long way, but that's probably because it was against the wind. Once at the destination beach, the tide was out, so the water was only knee-deep, but there were lots of sea critters around, big orange starfish, live conchs, brittle stars, and the first live sand dollars I've ever seen. The guide is very fun to listen to and he talks about the ecosystem and how everything is related. The kayak trip back had the wind pushing us and went very fast, and the walk back seemed quicker, probably because we didn't stop anywhere.
We're splitting up on this one, older DD wants to parasail me, and younger DD will kayak with DH.

if you are looking for a very comfortable shoe that can be worn daily as well as in water--on a kayak, beach etc. check these out--we bought them for the whole family when we went to costa rica--they are the best for rocky roads, water, long walks etc

Hi. My name is Tana and I just booked this trip for myself (31), my 2 boys (5 and 7) and my brother (29). My kids and I sailed last year on the June 3 Western, and I didn't think we'd be able to cruise again for a long time. We had a really rough year starting right after the cruise last summer, and I finally decided that we needed this. And then the price dropped and I booked us immediately. I'm especially thrilled that my brother is going with us because he lives in another state and we never get to see him.
I practically lived on the DIS board last year, so I'm happy to be moving back in. :) Can't wait to get to know people (if I'm not too late to join in).

i'm guessing you are a castaway club member since you've cruised with disney before. booking excursions became available for club members on sunday. maybe you can start your planning in this area. just about all the excursions are still open but palo brunch is all gone and a lot of the dinner times are too.
have your booked airfare?
I just finished buying airfare yesterday. That was fun. 1 round trip ticket from LA to Dallas. 4 one-way tickets from Dallas to Barcelona. 4 one-way tickets from Orlando to Dallas. I swear the airfare cost more than the cruise.
I haven't been able to get the system to let me book dinner at Palo. I figured I would just put us on a wait list for brunch. I never went to Palo last time because it was just me and the kids and I had no one to eat with. So, hopefully I'll make it this time.
I booked myself and the kids on an excursion in Barcelona and Cadiz, but I can't book my brother until the 75 day point, so I hope there's still space at that time. I think we may just do our own thing in Gibraltar. It looks easy enough. Not sure what to do about Tenerife. My brother wants to take his time and photograph everything. The kids and I will probably do something simple. They don't really care about the ports. Last trip they refused to get off the ship in Cozumel and we ended up spening the day at the Mickey pool.
Are there going to be extra menus, shows and things on this cruise as compared to the 7 day?

airfare to barcelona is not cheap and i've noticed it's gone up lately.
if you read the last few pages here, you can see what excursions others have booked. european ports are steeped in history and it is hard to get the kids excited about this.
there are a bunch of new menus, shows and things on this cruise. the eastbound repo is happening now. if you go to the trip reports, you can read the thread. they are having really bad weather which i hope does not happen to us.
Ellen,
Thanks for the tip to check the eastbound trip reports. I hadn't thought of that. And I'll definitely be reading back in this thread.
I'm hoping that when the eastbound repo'ers get home they will be posting lots of trip reports and I would love to see the navigators.
Hi Tana-
Welcome to the cruise! You are really going to have a great time. Glad your Brother is able to cruise with you as well. Tell him not to be nervous, there is going to be so much for him to see and do.

Tana,
When we were in a cat 3 on a previous cruise Disney allowed us to add my in laws who were in a cat 4 to book the excursions with us. I would call them and see if they could help you. It may help if your reservations are already linked.

if you are looking for a very comfortable shoe that can be worn daily as well as in water--on a kayak, beach etc. check these out--we bought them for the whole family when we went to costa rica--they are the best for rocky roads, water, long walks etc
http://www.keenfootwear.com/ I agree. Love them, when they're dirty and stinky, throw them in the washing machine and they're like new.

Well, we have made some big changes in our plans. I obviously need this vacation as much as DGD so I can learn some geography.:confused3 To keep with our plan on seeing things we would not see here at home (or close by) we are no longer doing the cataraman in Teneriefe (thanks to a lesson from Hannosmom). So here is our new schedule.
Day 1 - Barcelona, Spain (arrive around noon)
Walk the city and see the fountains at night.
Day 2 - Barcelona, Spain
Private tour booked
Day 3 - At Sea
Day 4 - Gibraltar, U.K.
Explore the Rock On Your Own10:15AM - 12:45PM (may cancel and really do it on our own or with some new friends)
Day 5 - Cadiz, Spain
Jerez De La Frontera & Royal Equestrian School with Training *Available on Transatlantic Westbound Cruise only 9:30AM - 2:30PM
and
Flamenco in Puerto de Santa Maria6:00PM - 9:30PM
Day 7 - Tenerife, Canary Islands
Tenerife, Teide, & the Garden of the Valley9:15AM - 5:15PM
Day 12
Palo Brunch11:30AM - 1:30PM (To celebrate our anniversary)
I hope this will give us a nice sample of the culture and area we visit.

Hi everyone,
I managed to capture the Magic arriving into Gibraltar this morning off the port's webcam.
The video is up on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LQ2wgzdwa8
(Couldn't get to capture the stream so this is video footage of the PC screen - sorry it's a little bumpy!)
Thank you to everyone for your welcome. I'm looking forward to meeting you all and running into you over and over again onboard. :)
momma4v3, thanks for your tip. I'm going to call DCL and see if I can add my brother to the excursions.
So far, our plans are:
Day 1 - arrive about 11am. Explore Barcelona on our own. I want to see some of the Gaudi sites and the kids want to see the fountains they saw in the Cheetah Girls movie. lol
Day 2 - the Flamenco and Tapas excursion
Day 4 (Gibraltar) - See the rock on our own. The planned excursions seem unnecessary for this one.
Day 5 (Cadiz) - We're booked for Jerez De La Frontera & Royal Equestrian School, but I might change it to the walking tour.
Day 7 (Tenerife) - I have no idea what to do here. All of the excursions seem to long for my 5 year old to be patient through. I may just wander around for a bit and take the kids to the Mickey pool while my brother goes off to take pictures.
Castaway Cay - nothing but relaxing on the beach

Just saw the pics of Gibraltar on the live thread. WOW! I can't wait!
After wrangling with the DCL site, my TA was able to get us our excursions and dinner at Palo, but no brunch or tea. Not worried, she will take care of it (thanks, Barb!) or I will book on board.
In Barcelona, we have a private tour scheduled for Sunday. If I am still in my right mind after the flight over, I may go out exploring on Sat evening. Or maybe I will just sleep.;)
In Gibraltar, we are exploring on our own in the am, with a bunch of friends, then we have tea in the afternoon. I thought it would be really cool to sip tea and gaze at Africa.:)
In Cadiz, we are doing the Equestrian thingy in the am, the going to a Flamenco show in the evening.
In Tenerife, we will be doing a private jeep tour with a group of good friends, then shopping and eating.
Lots of eating opportunities on this cruise!

I am now working on the money aspect of this cruise. That is exchanging money. I cannot find where anyone onboard has answered about getting money from the ship and the exchange rate.
I have checked with Wachovia and AAA. I am trying to find an American Express Travel service to see what they charge. Doing at the airport will be crazy. We used to wait and do it a a local bank, but we will be arriving on Saturday and they will be closed.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions to offer?

Have you thought about using an ATM to take out the money? It's generally what we do when we come over to the US.

I had thought about it, but was concerned about the fees and exchange rate. I think I will call Wachovia and see if they can recommend a bank/branch to use. Thanks

last year when DD15 was traveling in Europe, we bought her a AAA travel money card. I believe she used it at any ATM. We were able to monitor her spending on the internet, and add money to the card whenever needed.
But, that being said...as adults I'm sure we will be doing some visa charges, etc. I'm still wondering if we should get travelers checks to exchange or possibly one of the AAA cards as well. I'm still confused :confused3 I thought I read somewhere on a thread that exchanging on the ship was easy, but you could only do so much $$, not sure.

When we went to Germany and Italy a few years ago we encounter a surcharge of sorts for using the travlers check.
I am thinking the ATM may be the way to go.

Well, I just finished reading this entire post. It took a few days and my family must think I am nuts. I just realized that while I posted some responses, I never actually said we were coming. Well, we are Bringing the Magic Home,Again. We were on the awesome Panama Canal Crossing. (I did not know about the Disboards at that time.)
We love Disney cruising so much that we are taking the final 10 day Mediterranean, too. So we will enjoy 24 days of Magic. We are leaving Pittsburgh, July 13th for Paris (and DLP), then rail to Madrid where we will do a Globus Tour of Spain, Portugal and Morocco, a couple days in Madrid, then a few days in Barcelona, all before the Magic.
We are myself, DH, DD9, DD10 and DD11 (turning 12 on the 18th). We were originally booked in a cat 4 but luckily were upgraded to cat 3 95 days before the cruise starts! My in-laws are also traveling with us, they are in a Cat 4. We have early seating.
I have seen the shirts and love them. I will be ordering shortly and hopefully talk DH into wanting one as well.
DisTag sounds fun, Please add us to the list if it is still a go.
Have any definite plans been made for a Dis Meet at the beginning of the cruise. Are there many others doing these two back to back? Is there a website?
47 days until our vacation begins, 75 days until my Magic begins.
I look forward to seeing everyone in Barcelona,
Linda

I do not beleive anyone has gotten "docs" Some have gotten the "info" docs and magnets and even new cc cards.
As for distag...I think it was lost when we lost some of the other folks. We seem to be vanishing here.
No DIS meet has been planned, unfortunately. Again because we seem to have lost a bunch of the original planners. We can revisit it thought if anyone is interested. It looks like there are several groups here, maybe we can combine them.
We have been discussing arranging a meet for the girls 10-12 year olds. In fact I would really like to get that going. I was thinking maybe a virgin cocktail hour for them in the promenade on Sunday or Monday. With us boarding on Saturday and doing shore excursions on Sunday and then setting sail. It maybe too much. I would be happy to help plann or organize this. Just let me know what you would like me to do, if anything.

Yes, I've been to Paris before, but my girls haven't . . . I wouldn't call myself an expert, but if you have any questions I'll give you my best effort for an answer or opinion. As I think I told you, between the July 28 11 day Med cruise and this transatlantic one, we will go to Paris for 5 days and DL Paris for another 5. This will be my first time in Barcelona, but I have been reading up on it for so long now I feel as though I have a pretty good idea of what we will do there.
My oldest daughter (who turns 15 in just over a week) leaves on June 9 for a foreign exchange program in Spanish and will be living with a family in Cadiz (!) and studying at the University of Cadiz . . . I've already told her that we won't make any plans for that day and just let her show us "her" Cadiz . . .
I think this trip will help Andrew a lot . . . the headaches sound mainly stress related to me, and his doctors' visits have ruled out anything really serious. I know he will help us with what he learned, and ladies' brunch and tea for some in our group sound terrific.

We've been to Paris many times. I love Paris and probably know Paris better than I know London!!!. If I can, I'll be happy to help with any questions too.

WOW!!
Just looking at the list of cruisers from page 1. There sure are many people who either cancelled or no longer post. :confused3
It sure is hard to try and see who is actually going on the cruise now.
RobbI looked the first page over and some of these folks are not allowed to post here any more, (long sad story not appropriate for these boards, sorry) but the majority of them are still cruising. I will contact DisneyElf and ask her to update the first page. She has been very busy lately.
Thank-You for posting that DenverVal. I just thought it was really strange that so many people would cancel or not post. It is such a shame we don't have anything organized like the cruisers had on the way over.
Oh well, it is nice that a bunch of those listed are still cruising.
Thank-You again for posting that note!
Robb
We have been discussing arranging a meet for the girls 10-12 year olds. In fact I would really like to get that going. I was thinking maybe a virgin cocktail hour for them in the promenade on Sunday or Monday. With us boarding on Saturday and doing shore excursions on Sunday and then setting sail. It maybe too much. I would be happy to help plann or organize this. Just let me know what you would like me to do, if anything.
Hi Dee, I think this is a good idea. finding a time when everyone is available might be difficult for the first couple of days. maybe sometime sunday after we set sail? I think some of the girls want to see the magic fountains cause they saw it in the cheetah girls movie. maybe we can all do that on saturday night.
we have a cruise meet thread going revolving around the girls. it's called transatlantic august repo - age 10-12 group or something like that. haven't figured out how to post the link yet.
btw, melanie got an email from alexis. thanks.

:coffee: brunch/afternoon tea sounds great!
Will look forward to it.

I know my daughters would love to do this. They are already so excited since they have started emailing a couple of girls their ages. This would be a great way to meet each other.
As for a Dis meet, one idea may be the fist sea day (Aug 20), early afternoon? That is what we are doing on the 10 day. It would be nice to place a face with the names of everyone!

Its raining & nasty in Gib today(but come August it will be HOT!)
thought Id post a couple of things that sprung to mind as I charged down Main Street this morning!!!
INTERNET-take laptop to "Gibralter arms"(MainSt)order a coffee or coke "lite"&use there connection in nice surroundings,no charge.
MAGAZINES/PAPERS/PAPERBACKS-great place to stock up for the sea days .(In English & reasonable prices)
ALSO SEA SICKNESS Meds,or infact any medication,as there are 2-3 really good pharmacys in Main St
Prices, dont forget these are shown in £ (everywhere EXCEPT the post office will accept euros)GIB is REALLY EXPENSIVE.
Ifyou need to change $ there are plenty of currency exchange booths in Main St to do this at decent rates.
FOOD-dont,thats all Im going to say on the subject!
Any? regarding the rock,I will be happy to try to help,

Hi all,
Checking in for the day. I'll be around the weekend, have too much to do before our trip.
As we're doing 3 cruise's I'm posting in 3 threads at the moment and thought you may find this info that I posted about Jetlag helpful.
We communted between London and Boston every second week for about 2 years before our actual move to the USA. My DH never get's Jetlag and would arrive into Boston or London and go straight from the airport into the office. My DD (who still travels between the USA (home) and London (College)) and I have the same problem which is on the UK/European end.
UK/Europe to Boston, would be fine - just a long day and we would stay awake until bed time, collapse into bed and quickly get into the MA, USA timezone.
However the USA to UK trips are the worst for us. We always end up leaving the USA at night as most Transatlantic flights do, which is actually early hours of the morning in Europe so by the time you arrive at your destination you may have been able to get a few hours sleep if you're lucky. What we try and do now is as soon as we're on the plane and settled, is to get to sleep ASAP and when arriving into Europe try NOT to have a nap until bed time - which tends to be very difficult as we are exhausted!! We found that once we napped we would end up being competely out of time with the timezone and would go to bed at 4am and only wake up at lunch time.
We also set our watches to the destination time as soon as we board the plane that give's us an idea of how many hours possible sleep we'll get on the plane.
Hope the info helps.
Charmaine

Hi Sue,
I just decided on the cruise this past week - so I don't have my "cruise folder" organized yet. I'll keep a running list of everyone interested in the brunch/tea and once I get the info on how to book it I'll check w/you all to pick a day. Sound okay?
