We're considering going to Gulf coast beach for a couple days with our Disney trip (never been). Were considering Clearwater Beach or St. Pete's, anyone from the area or been, recommend one or the other, and a nice place to stay? Thanks for any input! Anyone been to both and have a preference?? Thanks guys! :thumbsup2 We've been to the east coast beaches but really want to try a Gulf beach this trip.

I prefer Clearwater Beach over St Petes Beach. We had only gone to St Petes Beach once and found the sand to be full of small shells that were tough on the feet. Clearwater Beach had really fine white sand and the area was nice.

I would also recommend Fort DeSoto Park. Real nice beach without all the touristy stuff.

no comparison.....I've gone to CWB all my life and have also been down to St. Pete. You will not be disappointed in CWB or maybe even Siesta Key.

St. Pete's did have alot of broken shells in the sand. Wish we would have gone to CWB instead. Siesta Key is beautiful!!

Anyone know any good seafood spots in Clearwater? We could really go for some fresh seafood (not an expensive place, just your good fresh seafood spot) while we're down there. I miss living by the beach! :teeth:

I would also look at Caledisi(sp?) Island as a beach to go to.

I grew up on Tampa and have ALWAYS gone to Clearwater. No comparison!

overall, I like Clearwater better. if you're looking for a casual seafood spot, go to one of Frenchy's places. the other places mentioned, SK, Ft. DeSoto, and Caledesi are all great as weel, but Caledesi is only accesible by boat or the ferry.

start here:

http://www.floridasbeach.com/ once you make it out of the sprawl of clearwater and get to I-275, SK is maybe 45 minutes away. we go there much more often than clearwater.

We're going to be in Florida the week after next and I've been thinking about checking out Clearwater Beach. What's there to see/do?

We just did honeymoon at St.Pete's & Clearwater. We were married in Disney.
We did 2 nights at Holiday inn sunspree at Clearwater. Fabulous gulf coast view, but hotel rather basic, and not cheap at $209 a night! Beach was lovely, but area a bit shabby. And a little noisy. It reminded us of Ibiza 20 years ago.
We travelled on to St.Petes and stayed 4 nights there. That was a nicer place. We stayed at the Tradewinds Sandpiper hotel right on beach, with a lovely suite for $169 a night.

we took a trip to Clearwater Beach after a week at POP last spring. Had a great time..stayed at the Red Roof Inn, great location, but old and kind of run down. Had dinner at Sheppards..all you can eat seafood buffet..DH and DS ate so much they could barely walk back to our hotel. The beach was wonderful..great sand ..lots to see ..highly recommend it!! :cool1:
