Hi Wendy........ :wave2:

I hate the heat........I'm a great Northern gal! But now, it looks like we are going to put the girls in private school instead of homeschooling so I don't want to take them out. Well, really it's just the one that would be in 8th grade that I would be worried about.

But this is the last trip for a while to Disney anyway. We've done quite a few trips in the last few years, we need to see the rest of the country. :rotfl: I think we are going to go to Kennedy S.C. also while we're down there.

YOU are going at my favorite time of year......OCT/NOV. When we were down last Thanksgiving, I commented to my husband that THIS was the type of weather that I liked. But even on T-day, it was 80 degrees! Have fun! :Pinkbounc

Hi!
I'm NOT going in August at all - but just wanted to double-check with you before removing you from the October list - it sounds like you'll be braving the heat of August instead? (I saw earlier that you're putting the kids into school?)
We (October people) will miss having you join us! Let me know and I'll take you off my list. :sad2:

We're going 8/27 - 9/2 - didn't really want to do August, but since it is value season, didn't have to take dd's out of school, and dd2 will still be "free", the pro's outweighed the cons. We're just going to have to make sure we have a cool drink and ponchos on us at all times.

So many New Yorkers, many from the same region we're in.

disgram - you're in our backyard in fact

Mom of Sleepy, Bashful and BabyDoc - and we're probably in your backyard.

It works out that our schools don't go back until after Labor Day, may explain the large number of New Yorkers there then.

Mom of Sleepy, Bashful and BabyDoc - If you split the distance between disgram and you is where you'd find me. Smack in the middle in Horseheads. Small world, all neighbors and going to be at Disney around the same time. This will be our third time in August, and I don't do well with heat but as a teacher it is a responsible time to go.

HORSEHEADS!! Wow! Isn't that just something! Neat. :sunny:

And I think you will be there 3 days after us. Cool............. :cool1: Have fun in your new "home". It looks so beautiful........maybe someday......... :cloud9:

So you're a teacher.....good for you........my Sis-in-law teaches at Haverling. Hey, Ladies.........we might have to have a mini-Disney get together sometime. It's good for me to know I'm not the only Disney crazed-one around this area! :p

Glad to see another responsible teacher from the north RivaLJ. :teacher: Although we have spring break coming up soon and I am really looking forward to it. :yay:

Mom of Sleepy, Bashful and BabyDoc - A mini Disney get together sounds like a lot of fun. I was beginning to think Disney wasn't that popular around her, eventhough I spread Disney pixie dust where ever I go. pixiedust: My family and my husband's family well, lets just say it is not high on their list of priorities. I have one brother and sister-in-law who even have 3 young children (2,4, and 6) and go to Florida and have little or no interest in giving them the magic. :wizard: I on the other hand have contributed to my daughters complete and total adoration of Disney and all it represents. If I'm not at Disney I'm planning my next trip or checking out someone elses trip. I'm so addicted, I think I need a doctor. :stir:

If we can get ressies tomorrow :scared1: (Thank you free dining!!), we'll be going 8/16-23, second choice 8/23-30. Staying at POP. Is it true that due to this deal, they are giving value rates for the dates before the 27th?? I read that on another post.
If only I could get air from ALB for less than $1000 for the 4 of us!! DH doesn't want SW, afraid we won't get seats together on the return trip.

Hooray for those not taking their kids out of school for their trip. Mine will be 10 (her birthday is just before the trip :guilty: ) and 15. I'll just have to handle the humidity (love heat, NOT the humidity).
Add us to the New Yorkers list-we're from the Lake George area!

Add another NY Family ( Long Island) to the list. My DSIL and I are both teachers so summer is the only time to go. August seems to always be our best bet. It is hot but the crowds are smaller and it is value season on the WL.

Spring Break is just 10 days away and I don't think I would ever want to go when most schools are out. This way I have all of July to get ready.

We're in for Aug. 14-20th.

Hey, NYers, I lived in Trumansburg one summer and still visit that area often. Does that count for anything? :)

My dh is from T-burg! I'm from the Buffalo area, and we're currently in the Endicott (Binghamton), NY area.

We're going to be off-site August 12-19 and at POR 19-26. Dd's 13th birthday will be while we're there. Now that the older kids are in middle and high school, I can't go during the school year. As it is, ds will miss the beginning of XC season. Guess I'm not so responsible!

We'll be at the Poly from 8/13~8/22. I am a little scared of the August heat, never been in the summer before. We're usually May people. But with DS13 being in middle school now, can't afford to miss the days. Took advantage of the free dining and plan to stay near the Poly pool and water parks a good part of the time.

Beth--

We just got our e-mail confirming our T-burg trip tonight, so I'm happy dancing about that. We rent a cottage on the lake, just North of the point at Taughannock for a week in June and again in the fall if we can fit it in the time & budget.

We'll be in Disney the same time as you, so no fall walk down Watkins Glen for us this year. I can't decide if that's a fair trade or not.

We're going Aug 1-8. I have only seen a few people on these boards who are going around then (as the poll clearly indicates!), so I guess we're more insane than everyone else and will just have to face the FL crowds. No choice, though. My kids and I all return to school Aug 15 and I am teaching summer semester until July 28, so there ya go. It'll be fun, though (if HOT), and my DD will turn 7 while we're there & DS turns 16 just after we come home, so it's a celebration as well. :cake:

Well, we will be @ RPRH from 8/9-8/12, then OKW from 8/12 to 19. It's our usual time to vacation, and typically it's pretty low-crowds due to school starting in many states and hurricane threats... but it appears that Disney offered free dining and folks came out of the woodwork, especially for that first week, LOL! We don't get the free dining, and I admit it - I considered moving our trip back a week to avoid any free dining crowds. But then I thought about having to re-do all my dining ressies I made wayyyy back at 180, and decided nah, I'll tough it out with good company, right? Hopefully this poll isn't indicative of crowd intensity, just DIS-er intensity, right? :thumbsup2

Did you have many problems making ADRS? We made our ADRs back at the 180 day mark, and had been tihnking about changing a few, then Disney announced the free dining plan and I got fretful about making changes - wasn't sure I'd get anything at all, LOL! Just wondering how hard it is to get into places with so many folks going that same week, and on free dining, and all trying to get those TS arranged. If this poll is any indication - it's gonna be a zoo that week.

We're there from July 28 through Aug. 4. Staying at the Dolpin (got the $129 a night rate :thumbsup2 ) DH and I are both teachers, and our DS starts college in the fall, so we'll brave the heat and thunderstorms. DD-16 and I are already getting giddy with excitement :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc The boys are a little more subdued.

Lime green anything is supposed to signify that you are a DIS member. Thats how you are able to identify someone from the DIS while at Disney. Many people go to Home Depot and get the mickey paint samples (Mickey Heads) in the color lime green and wear them (you can put them on things)

I find it interesting that the majority of the people on the DIS are going more towards the middle to end of August, and the crowd level on touringplans.com says that those days are low - while the minority of the Dis'ers are going in the beginning touringplans has those crowd levels as about as high as they can get.

It sort of gives me a false sense of hope that when we are there 8/7-11 the crowd levels will be lower. I guess one can always hope.

Hi Neighbor-

Since we are traveling with family who just went in May- They are on a tight budget. We won't be able to be in preferred rooms cuz of that but I requested we get the Calypso cuz it's the closest of the non-preferred rooms to the buses, front desk, dining, and game room. It's pretty close to the pool also. Hopefully we'll get it. I was told to call the hotel directly about 10 days before our arrival and speak with someone directly about our request. At that time, if they are availiable, we'll get what we want. If you have any requests, call them in now to the reservations # and then the hotel directly 10 days before. Someone on this site told me about calling ahead earlier this month and I'm glad I did.

We are gonna have a ball.

Are you traveling with children? I will have 2 teen girls (my daughter's friend)and a 10 year old son.

Oh, that's cool! I wanted to request the Calypso as well, but I thought you had to pay. Awesome, I'm definitely doing that.

Actually, it's just me and the boyfriend - it's our one-year anniversary, and since I work here in Toronto, Canada as a Disney princess and am obsessed with Disney, we thought it'd be a fun place to get away for the week (especially with the DDP deal!)

They told me at the res # that I can request anything I want but it's on a first come first serve basis with no garuntees of getting it. BUT- asking is better than not asking right?

Wow- If this is your one year of dating- Imagine your 10th after marriage. You'll have a wonderful time I am sure.

I am going to be verrrry curious to see just how crowded it is during our week there (Aug 12-19). I tried to move an ADRthis week for that trip - no way jose, so very VERY booked solid! We have done this same week in August SEVERAL times now... never had THAT happen, unless we had a huge crew with us (I recall having a problem trying to get seating for 13 at thelast minute - but even then, we got Garden Grille and a good meal.) Nothing really to be had - the CM acted like he had NO CLUE it was Free Dining plan - he actually asked me if I knew if there was "a convention or something, because Ma'am, it is just so booked up!" Ironically - anything I wanted was available on the 12th, LOL. I wish in a very real way we had moved our Disney-portion of the trip to the week of Aug 6, and then done Universal during the 12th, instead of the other way around - sounds like there are going to be LOTS of folks sqeauking in a last summer trip for the dining package. I am sort of hoping it's just a lot of nervous travelers who perhaps made double bookings.... wishful thinking for me, though perhaps at Disney's expense, right? All I can add is - heaven help the soul going that week who has NOT made their ADRs!

All of us August folks will have to report back on what we experience, crowd-wise, at the parks, esepcailly those of you who bridge across more than one wekk - you can give us a comparison!!

gopherit I am seriously hoping that many people did double bookings. We are also going to be there in your time frame (aug 12th -17th, then cruise 17th-20th). We have made ADRs for anything specific we wanted and are going to play it by ear for the rest. The free dinning is a big draw however so we may be doomed to a very busy park.

We have always gone in July or August. When I booked this year's trip, I was excited to go on the 19th, knowing the crowds would be starting to dwindle. Uhhuh, then they announced the free dining. I am worried about the crowds now, but there is nothing I can do about it~and I am going to WDW! :sunny: I made my ressies without a problem, so as long as we stick to our plan (lol) we SHOULD be fine.
