Hi all. I am planning a trip for Sept for my fammily (me, DH and 3 kids) and my parents and little borther. My Mom has MS and is in a wheelchair.

I have a few questions if comeone can help me out. We are going to be staying at AKL. Does anyone know if any of the h/a rooms have bunk beds?

Also, how wheelchair friendly is the walk from the boatdock to Wildreness Lodge and to Ft Wilderness (for both WCC and HDDR).

Also, I have seen people mention calling special servies. DO I need to do this or have my Mom do this? I cant really think of anything we will be but a H/A room.

Thanks a bunch! Any and all information is welcome!

Alicia- When you make your reservation, just let them know you need a h/a room. AK Lodge has two types- a roll in shower/tub with rails. Both bathrooms are huge! I don't believe any of the h/a rooms have bunks though but they do have two queens. One thing to note- the room doors are very heavy at this resort and you may want to ask housekeeping to remove the spring loaded bar at the top for your Mom's room. ---Kathy

I'm not sure if there is a choice of bedding in the H/A rooms. We stayed at AKL last summer in a H/A room which had a roll-in shower and 2 double beds. The only disappointment with this room was that it had a closed in balcony so no view at all from a wheelchair and the door out to the balcony opened outwards and cut off half the area. That was a little awkward.

We also did the walk from the boat dock to both WL and FW without any problems with the wheelchair. They do warn you that the boat may not be accessible for wheelchairs due to changes in water level, but we didn't encounter any problems.
