I'm trying to wear DH down to go with me...ha ha.

I know my 5 year old would love going to the Rainforest Cafe.

The only issue with me bringing along the kids is that I can't sneak away to gamble after or before the meet.

When do we need a final head count by?

Blueeyes101817

not sure...Kimwim8 called today and the event lady is out of town for the week, so we will call again next week

When do we need a final head count by?

Since this is quite an informal event...I'm pretty sure you could let us know a day or two before and we could get you a seat! :thumbsup2

When I call, I'm gonna pad the number of people attending, so we should be fine.

The more, the merrier!

Hey all - I have some updates, news, concerns....

OK, where to start?

I called the RFC. We have a few options there:

1. We can sit as a group of 20 (that's the number I gave as an estimate) all together & order off of the menu at 11 or 11:30 on 5/13.

2. We can sit as two groups of 10 any time of the day and order off of the menu, but there are no guarantees that the two tables will be near each other.

3. We can sit as a group of 20 any time of the day, but only with the "banquet menu", which is a set price of $59.99 per person. (I have the sample menu she sent me if anyone wants a copy...PM me). IMHO this isn't a great option. It's very expensive for us to sit in the middle of a restaurant with other people around us to have appetizer, salad, entree and dessert and one beer or wine). To me, not a great deal...

I know this isn't working out like I pictured...but I have another possible option...

I don't know if you all are set on AC...but I live about 10-15 minutes outside of AC in Galloway. There is an AWESOME restaurant in an easy to find location (just off the GS Parkway) called Gourmet Italian Cuisine. They have several side rooms, with one available on the 13th. This room would be completely ours...no outsiders! We would order off of the huge menu. The room is filled with booths, and enough room to seat 28 or so people. So as far as paying for lunch...I think it would make it easier to split up by table, instead of a group of 20 (I know payment wasn't brought up yet, but it was something I was thinking about).

SO.....

Tell me what you all think. I am totally up for more ideas, comments on these ideas, etc. I'd really like to still have a meet - so hopefully it'll still work out. Please please please give us (me & Jen) your feedback!

If you can, please respond ASAP. If we do decide on either of the two places listed here, we need to call them by next week to reserve tables/rooms.

Thanks guys!

I can't believe they will only let us order off the banquest menu...don't they do parties??? Oh well, that stinks...I am up to any other place just thought since we are the Diser's and RFC is in disney it would give us the Disney feel...but like I said it really doesn't matter to me where we go as long as we go!! :thumbsup2

Gourmet Italian Cuisine looks good!!! I have never been to Carmine's, but I was looking over the menu and it is $12.00 for a side of just broccoli :scared1: !!!!!!

That's too bad about the RFC - I agree that the RFC would have been the closest to the "Disney" feel for our Meet.

In that case, I second the vote for Carmines.....Their entrees are meant to be shared by 2-3 people so the prices may seem higher, but when it's broken out between everyone it's not too bad of a price.

Personally, i'd like to stay around the AC Boardwalk area, but that's just my preference, not trying to be difficult. I'll go along with the majority.

Thanks!

I vote for Carmines as well. Very yummy when I was there last fall and the service was excellent. The prices are a little high but the plates of food are HUGE. There were five of us and we ordered one appetizer, two entrees and one desert and we had a ton of leftovers. For example we ordered tiramisu and it was a whole pie dish sized tiramisu! The only problem would be splitting the bill.

I have a call in to Carmine's. There are special menus for groups (if you go to private events). I'm just waiting for them to call me back with some prices...and to see if they have room for us on our date. Then I'll post back & let you all know - and I guess we'll take another vote.

My partner in crime, Jen, is leaving tomorrow for a week long Florida trip - so...it may be up to us guys!

I'll be back soon with an update.

I love Carmine's Tiramisu - it's delicious.

Did you see the "Titanic" dessert? It's about a foot long strawberry shortcake with frosting and it's in the shape of the Titanic.

A strawberry shortcake shaped like the Titanic? Nope, I think I would have noticed if a waiter had carried that past our table! :teeth: Sounds yummy though!

I'm so sorry I haven't posted yet, but I just got back from WDW a few hours ago. Anyhow, I've eaten at Carmine's before and LOVE it. I've never dined at Gourmet (I used to order their takeout a lot when I worked at the Seaview Marriott), so I'd be happy either way. Whatever the majority goes with, I'll be happy - I love Carmine's, but am anxious to try Gourmet.

I also just got back from Florida last night. It doesn't really matter to me but I think I'd prefer AC. If that doesn't work out then anything else will be fine.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone (and showing off my tan, I was there 2 weeks!).

UPDATE!!!!!

Ok, I talked to Carmines. Basically 3pm starts their dinner hour. And 15 or more people constitutes a banquet. So we'd have to sign a contract with them & pay per head for the family style. We'd have a menu to make selections for the appetizers, pasta and entrees. Dessert is a sampler. And tea & coffee are included.

The prices are: 3pm or later - $55/person, before 3pm (they have 2pm available) - $30/person. PLUS - 6% tax, 18% gratuity and 2% service fee added to both prices.

I will be talking to Jen (Blueeyes101817) later tonight & will get her feedback. Please tell me yours!

We really need to settle this soon. I feel bad it's been so wishy-washy during this process. Next time I promise to do more homework and research before getting anyone's hopes up! :thumbsup2

I got a idea how about we go go to one of the casino's buffets.I always go to trump marina there are not that expensive.resorts is also cheap.dis sjw :thumbsup2

epcotjason
04-27-2006, 10:11 PM
I think dis sjw has a great point! There has to be places to eat that have dining rooms where tables could be easily pulled together that do not have mandatory "banquet" pricing regulations for a large group. A buffet is a great choice since there is no menu to have "banquet" rules to deal with. A buffet is a buffet, and nothing more than a one price deal.

I think the idea of a buffet is great too!!! THis way there is something for everyone.

04-28-2006, 07:40 AM
Great ideas everyone.

Do the casino buffets allow patrons under 21?

I think there may have been one other person bringing along their kids - I may or may not have mine depending on what we decide. Mine may just come along for the ride and go outside to the beach with DH if we do indeed end up at the Boardwalk.

kimwim8
04-28-2006, 10:20 AM
I definitely like the idea of a buffet. Thanks, dis sjw!!! :thumbsup2

I'll do some research tonight, and post some of the places and prices tonight or tomorrow morning. Then we can take a vote...and have a set plan!!

Happy Friday all!

04-28-2006, 08:36 PM
OK, I may be the only one, but I think we should go back to the regular plan...I say we go to Rainforest Cafe and sit in two groups of 10. I called tonight(just wanted to see if it made a difference that I had the club card) and the manager Joe said he could get two tables right next to each other. (Sorry if I am steeping on anyones toes by doing that, I was just curious) I would really like to go to RFC, and this way twe know the kids will be occupied.

Just a thought. Whatever everyone decides though is ok with me, I am just excited to finally get to meet some of my DIS buddies!! :goodvibes

Blueeyes101817
04-28-2006, 11:59 PM

Great! I look forward to seeing everyone at the Rainforest Cafe! This will be my first time in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Plus the Rainforest Cafe will be a true Disney experience since there are two of them at Walt Disney World in Florida and one at Disneyland in California! The web site http://www.rainforestcafe.com will tempt our taste buds in the meantime. Have a magical day everyone! See you soon!

Great! I'm glad we can do the RFC!

Put me down for 1 adult and 1 booster seat. I don't know 100% yet if i'm going to bring one/both of the kids, but i'd rather have it reserved than not. I'll know more closer to the date. Hope that's ok.

Thanks! See you all then!

I am sorry that I couldn't make it...I was extremely upset...my daughter had a softball game and I wound up getting hit in the hand with a line drive. I spent the next 3 hours in the ER with a dislocated finger :guilty: . The coaches pitch the first two innings then the girls pitch the last two, well this girl had a monster of a hit and the only thing I could think to do so it wouldn't hit one of the kids was to stick out my hand to slow it down(BIG MISTAKE!!!! :confused3 )

Anyway, I am glad you all had a great time, and you better believe I will be at the next meet!!!! :thumbsup2
