We have registered online as well, but my understanding is that we should still be getting our documents anyday now. MSR709, I would think you would be fine with your docs...I would think we would get them either this week or next. Good luck with the move.

No documents yet - but we are anxiously awaiting :confused3 . We booked a cat. 12 gty. but since there are 4 of us we should get at least an 11. I hope the upgrade gods will smile on us!
I stopped at a dive shop the other day to look at scuba masks since we had problems with our cheap ones fogging and leaking last time. I ended up buying a mask cleaner and a bottle of defogger that the sales guy said will help significantly. Just thought I'd pass the tip along - we've had the same problems with rentals in the past. I guess if the masks aren't clean they just won't seal right.

Smooch, I booked a 12 gty for another family that is coming on the cruise with us. They got their cabin assignment a few days ago. It stayed as a 12. They are also a group of 4 people.

Can someone tell me if you have you cabin number listed on disneycruiseline.com or if they just list the category. I am a TA so I am traveling on a TA discount. I have listed: Verandah Stateroom and that is all. I have not received my docs yet, but was told my stateroom number would be listed on them. I thought it would be online as well. Do your cabin numbers show up when you log into your reservation? Thanks!!

09-28-2006, 12:38 AM
bschiffler, I am doing the same thing you are, as well as a few others I know. We all have the same thing noted on the site. Ours say "verandah stateroom"
Guarantee, Cat 13 . Since we all know there is no such category, this must be an internal notation for DCL. We were told it is a cat 5. My faxed conf page says guarantee cat 5. None of us have gotten a cabin assignment. I am assuming you took advantage of the TA special they ran. In that, they state it is ROH (run of house) cat 5-11. I just want to see the cabin assigned so I can rest easy. As for 3 other families I booked on this cruise, they all have their cabins assigned, and they are all viewable on DCL.com

For those of you who have received your docs, did you book directly through DCL or through a TA...just wondering b/c we haven't received ours yet...hopefully today though. I am gettting a box ready to ship ahead and I'm so excited about it. My kids are going to be so surprised! Only a few more weeks to go! : :dumbo: :stitch: :goofy: :mickeybar :mickeyjum :donald:

When we booked our cruise several months ago, we booked on the DCL site and did not go thru a TA. Anyway, we were allowed to choose which stateroom we wanted. It basically popped up several choices within the category we wanted, and we just chose where we wanted to be on the ship. I guess if you book far enough out, it probably will let you choose.....
As for the docs, as of last night, we have not received ours yet either...

09-28-2006, 09:26 AM
Brit, no docs yet. Lets see what happens today. On your conf. fax, does it say cat 5?
Duane, when u book, u have an option to chose an assigned cabin OR a guaranteed category. If you chose a guaranteed category without a cabin, you have a better than average chance of getting upgraded for free.
bschiffler
09-28-2006, 10:37 AM
Sami,
Yes, it says cat 5. What does that mean? I am told they can change our cabin assignment up until check in! I just wish I knew one way or another so I could be mentally prepared for what I am getting. I don't want to go with the hope of a cat 5 and than be disappointed. I wonder if we will get our docs just 2 weeks before sailing!
Do you work full time as an agent in house or outside sales?
sami90tsi
09-28-2006, 11:10 AM
Britt, I am Sami's DH :). I work as an independent agent from home.
As for the category, yes they can switch cabins, BUT since it says Guarantee cat 5 , they should only be able to switch us from one cat 5 to another OR upgrade. Just make sure you have that conf sheet if they try to stick us in an 11.
I have to take a quick trip down there tomm. I am going to head over to the port fri night to sat norning to see what I can find out. The Magic will be arriving sometime between then for sat's sailing to the E. carib.

I hope your right about them not being able to move us! So you are planning on a cat 5 forsure? That would be great! I am also and independent sales consultant. I have my own company name but I ticket through a larger agency so I don't have to deal with all the ARC stuff! Let me know if you receive your docs! Britt

Karen still no docs here in WI either and ours will be coming directly to us because I booked directly through Disney. I am hoping they will be here when I get home from work tomorrow! From what I understand if you booked through a travel agent they will go to them. Have you called your travel agent to see if they can give you more info?
Last week DD and I both found dressy shoes that will go with all of our dresses/skirts so we won't need to bring multiple pairs of dress shoes. I am really trying hard not to overpack this time!!! DD has a laundry basket full of clothes for the cruise I think today might be a good day to go through it with her and see what can be eliminated and I should go through the closet with DH to see what he wants to bring. It's getting close to packing time now

Hey I had a thought..... Don't have too many so bear with me :lmao:
Would anyone that will be traveling in small numbers be interested in trying to sit together at dinner? I'm not sure what that would involve, but since those of us in 2's, 3's, or 4's will most likely be thrown together with other folks, why not at least be grouped with folks that share the same Disney (dare I say: "passion")
Me, DW and DD 9 have the early seating and would be interested.....

We are in room #7007, unlike all you other 7th floor cruisers, we are just in catagory 10 or 11, I can't really remember, but it's whatever we had last cruise 2 years ago and it was fine because we really only used the cabin to sleep and change. Not that I would turn down a category 5 that I didn't have to pay extra for!!! :)
Also, we only had 4 people in our party last cruise and we had our own table for dinner. Do you think they will combine us this year?
Does anyone have a link to a good packing list that they want to share?

Isn't that a Disney quote? I'm just a blue collar guy but we saved for a Cat 3 2 years ago and everything was so perfect we immediately began saving for this one. Your message cracked me up, Karen! We have a countdown chain in our dining room and my husband was just telling my daughters at lunch that two weeks from now we will be getting on the ship.
I am COMPLETELY excited. I was online last night and this morning looking for trip reports. We just called to find out what movies they will be showing and were pleased to find out that we will be able to see Pirates. We haven't managed to hire a babysitter to see it yet. So now we will get to! I also want to see Invincible while we are on the ship.
We haven't booked any shore excursions yet and I am getting a bit nervous. We did book our spa stuff and Palo a long time ago. We basically want to snorkel and maybe do one of the submarine excursions. I can't get into the reservation system to even see what is left. Surely something good is still left? Are any of you doing the ones that last about 2 hours?

Sunshinegirl, since you called about the movies, do you know remember what other ones will be playing in addition to POTC and Invincible (both of which I have been waiting to see!) Reading about the countdown chains makes me wish a little bit that our boys knew we were going on the cruise so we could do one too, but we've kept it from them this long, I just can't spoil it now. I just sent my box ahead to our cabin yesterday, so hopefully it makes it there! We are all very excited here in Ventura, CA. With the fires and ash, it will be welcome to see another ocean with clear skies. We just hope the weather stays clear. The kids here are still in shorts and T-shirts, so we held back some new school clothes, and made them "cruise clothes." We also don't have cruise docs yet. We'll make some inquiries though. Our house is in the tail end of a huge remodel, so I'm happy to leave while the tiling and floooring is done. Maybe when we get home it will actually feel like extreme home makeover after being away from the mess. We are staying at the Hyatt Hotel at the airport, we leave LAX at 7:00 AM on Fri., and will take disney transport to the port the next morning. We decided our day will be full of travel, and so we'll have a quiet evening before a most incredible week. The kids have a fall break out here, so we don't miss any school. Good for us, the district always frowns on us when we pull 4 kids out of school for a trip, they lose funding. We made our door signs, and the reality of going is starting to hit. Can't wait to meet you and your kids.

Sunshine girl--Thanks for the movie list. DH & I already saw Invincible, but my ds9 was upset that we went to see it while he was at school! So he was really excited he hear it would be playing.

Ladies: What kind of attire are you wearing for formal night? Have not cruised on DCL before, but the other cruises I have seen everything from long gowns to pants and blouse. What would you recommend? Is a long black dress to formal?

I seem to recall a wide range. Everything from sundresses to formal dresses. Because I am going to rent DH a tux, I think I am going to go with a knee-length black dress and nice heels. The kind of thing that I would wear to my DH's company Christmas party. Probably one of my "sparkly" ones. My girls are going to wear two of their Princess costumes. So I would like to get a nice family picture. (wishful thinking??)

Well, we spent the week end packing clothes after watching the Travel Channel's DCL special (I had it tivo'd). The kids are really excited even though they are still young.
I'm taking my son out of school. When we planned this trip two years ago, it never occured to us that he would be in school-aren't we shortsighted? So, the school is aware and they'll send work with us if they choose. Not the ideal, but there are worse things than taking your kindergartener out for a family reunion/vacation, I suppose.
I plan to wear a black cocktail dress for formal night- nothing too fancy and very comfortable. On semi formal night, we'll dress "nicer". I have a gown for our vow renewal ceremony that afternoon. Not a wedding gown; just something simple and pretty.
I'm hoping to get to the dismeet, even if it's just me and my dd. It will depend on what time we get on the ship, eat, etc. I'm hoping to meet you hank (hey neighbor!) and sami. Oh, sami I owe you a PM. Sunshine, I'd love to snorkel with you in Coz, but it looks like we'll be just hanging on Paradise Beach. I love to snorkel and plan to bring my own gear, minus the fins, I think. Hope you find someplace great.
How many people have made door signs? I have mine mostly done. I just want to do a few dis green mickey heads and the Mickey ears.

Snorkeling in Cozmel is great! We went last year and it was the best place we have ever snorkeled. I would love to snorkel if I could get DS and DD to stay in the kids club for 2 hours while we ventured out.
We are planning on heading to Paradise Beach sometime for a few hours, I wonder how the snorkeling is there? I'm sure nothing like going out to a reef.
We went through a local company last year in Cozumel, this kid named Joshua took us out to a great place and we had such a great time. When we came in the boat from snorkeling, he had a pitcher of margaritas waiting for us-stiff ones!! My DH and I made sure he got a nice tip after that!! :)

Thanks for the ideas of what to wear for the formal and semi-formal nights. I was hoping the Christmas party attire would work. Hank56, I hope your toe feels better. I've got a new appreciation for small things. We would like to go to the dismeet if time allows with check-in and all, if someone could remind me when and where. To the family from Redwood City, our family lived in the Bay Area for years, and my DH's family is all still there. Thank you for the movie list.

We were just walking around Cozumel and came across a dive shop. I know where they are located but cannot for the life of me remember the name. It was really reasonable to. We were out about 2 1/2 hours, I think we snorkeled 3 different spots. It was the perfect amount of time. I will check with out friends to see if they remember the name.

Is the meet still going to be at 3p?
Where is the meet going to be and what day, embarkation day? TIA :thumbsup2
The DIS meet is at 3pm on Saturday, (21st), in the Promenade Lounge on deck 3. ( Near Aft elevators ). :cool1: I suggested this time and place a while back and it seems to have become official. Hope to see you all there!
Remember, the safety drill is at 4pm.
How early are you all planning on being at the terminal? I'd like to get there early, as we are staying in Cocoa Beach the night before, but I dont want to be too early. I guess they open the doors around 10 am. I am thinking about 10:30 or 11am for us.

We didn't have the kids dress up last cruise for formal night (2 years ago), they actually stayed in the kids club, but they were very excited about doing it this year and I'm hoping to get a great family photo!!! We ordered a tux off ebay for my ds9 and it came with the jacket, shirt, bowtie, vest and pants. We also found tux shoes for him on sale at payless shoes for $10 - which is a steal since he is in men's shoe sizes now! I even got the same pair for my husband! My dd11 is going to waer a black satin dress that she wore to my brothers wedding (originally bought on clearance at Mervyn's!) I am re-wearing a long, black, velvet dress from last cruise and my husband bought a tux for 75% off at Macy's. It's really great to see how excited the kids are, not just for the trip, but even dressing up for dinner! I think it is because they know what to expect and how much fun it was!
Our family would love to either snorkel in Cozumel or hang out at a beach. Would love to hook up with a family with similar age kids. I have a dd11 and a ds9, both are good swimmers (although dd got a little freaked out last time with snorkeling, wasn't all that sure about the fish swimming so close to her!)
DS (7 at the time) and I snorkelled for about an hour last time as Castawy Cay, we finally came in because we were so cold. So this time we decided to bring wetsuits!
Would love to go to the dis meet if someone could do a reminder of when and where it is going to be.
Thanks,

the Bahamas form is I believe for Castaway Cay, since it is in the Bahamas. I'm still a little confused as to what we have to fill out in sect. 2, so if anybody else knows, please fill me in. I'm trying to help my friend fills hers in too, but we are a little baffled! We are planning on going to the dis meet too, so we are looking forward to meeting everyone. BYW, we'll be the two families in matching shirts...the main characters will be on our backs with "Disney Cruise, Oct. 21, 2006, Western Caribbean" on them. So if you see us in the terminal, please stop and say "hi".

We tried and tried to get some friends to come with and nobody would pull their kids from school or spend the money on the cruise! We love traveling with other families. We travel 3-4 times a year and this will actually be our first trip with just our family! It will be alot of fun to spend time as a family but we always enjoy the adult company especially in the evenings!

We are possibly going to rent a Jeep on Cozumel. I hope that when we get there, there are some available. Otherwise we will just shop a little. The Jeep excursions that are available are too long (5-6 hours) and too $$$ for us. We are doing Capt Bryans stingray city charter on GC. :fish: Plan on renting a golf cart-thing on Key West. :sunny: (Margaritaville here I come) Just beaching it on CC. :beach:
As far as our "formal wear", I have a nice black dress, like you'd wear to a wedding or x-mas party. DH will wear a navy dinner jacket/tie and ds 5&9 will wear shirt/ties and khaki dress pants. My guys were not interested in Tux's. I tried. Maybe some day....like our next cruise (hopefully). :goodvibes
Julie- I am also having DH drop us off and return our rental to Budget. I have in my mind 1030ish, but if I can get these guys moving that morning, maybe a little earlier.

Hank56 & Smooch,
That would be great if we could all go at the same time to Paradise Beach. We could share on Taxis and also look out for each other on the beach. That will allow the kids do the beach stuff together and not feel like we are spread out too thin. I looked at the Paradise Beach website, it looks like it's a lot of fun. It's $8 per person and has floaty things to play on and showers and changing rooms. They also offer additional items to do or rent for more $. www.paradisecozumel.com

We keep hoping that it is just a technical glitch. We've tried to get them both online and by calling the ticket office. Both say they are sold out. There is even a travel agent on the DIS looking for us because she said that they never sell them out early like this. I keep hoping for a little pixie dust that there is just something in the system wrong today making it look like they are sold out. :confused3

We are so looking forward to Saturday. The girls and I spent yesterday afternoon working on our door signs and making piles of stuff to somehow fit into our suitcases! :cool1: We are in room #7001 with my sister and family, parents, and FIL in three other rooms close by. Within the last few weeks, 2 of my sister's 3 children have been diagnosed with celiac disease. They need to be on a gluten-free diet, which is easier said than done! Not surprisingly, Disney has been great about these new dietary restrictions for them. It sounds like it will be easier to meet their needs on the ship than at home. Maybe their health insurance would pick up the cost of the cruise as a medical expense? :rotfl2: Between that and crazy work stuff for DH, we are all needing a little Disney magic. Saw the discussion thread about ordering water from Staples to be delivered to the warehouse. When you sign up for their rewards program you get free shipping for online orders. For $5.99 I ordered a case of 24 bottles of water to be delivered to the warehouse and then our stateroom. Sounds too easy and too cheap to actually work, but it's worth a try! ;) We are scheduled to land on Sat. at 10:45. If all goes smoothly we will look forward to meeting all of you at the DIS meet. Safe travels new friends - see you very soon! :cloud9:

My TA said both the Tampa and Orlando flights are full so be in line no later than 6:15 and expect it to be busy. Should we wear our Mickey heads and see if we can spot each other?? I'll probably be easily visible chasing a sleep-deprived 2 year old around.
We are stopping in Lakeland to visit my Grandpa, then spending the night at Best Western Lakeside in Kissimmee. We plan to go DTD for dinner then head to the port in the morning. OOOHhhh! I can't wait!! :hourglass

Welcome from cabin 8086. We have just arrvied in Key West. It's been a little interesting this morning. 3 coast guard vessels including a missile cruiser took up positions around the Magic all the way into Keyt West. Approximately 44 miles out, 10 uniformed, armed coast guard members boarded the ship on the left side while moving. Not sure why.
Palo has also been closed all day. Some sort of power failure. Related issues?

On debarkation day, there were armed officers in the hall on deck 2 at 6 a.m.. The rumor was that someone had an arrest warrant. I wonder if it was related to what happened in Key West.
We saw the coast guard boats in Key West but we assumed they were just giving us an escort. Wow, does anyone know what happened??
I just wanted to thank everyone for all the helpful hints and advice that I got from this board. You really helped make our vacation magical. I enjoyed meeting everyone at the DIS meet and I wish we had more time to get to know each other. The week went by too fast. We ended up going to Paradise Beach in Cozumel later in the day because we were all a bit green from the ride the night before  Sorry we missed you! I hope your vacation was as enjoyable as ours.

We were actually eating at Palo at noon on Key West day. They were doing an expected ship inspection the staff at Palo told us. The armed officers walked around the front of the ship at least 20 times. They were staying on the ship until Cozumel to do a bunch of inspections I guess.
We had such a great trip!

Our server at Palo's said the CG had escorted US Public Health service officials. All food for the Palo brunch was thrown out as the food is never on chilling bins which is against USPHS regulations. Ciao Romano (our server) also said there was a lot of drama in Palo's after they were notified by the bridge as to who was onboard.

That explains a lot. We had Palo reservations for 10:30 and were told when we got there that there would be no buffet and that they would resume regular sit-down service in about an hour but that it would be very slow. They ended up rescheduling us for the next day.
We went back to the room and ordered room service for lunch and it proceeded to take 90 minutes to get it for some reason! We wondered if it was related in some way.

They did provide everything on that day complementary. No charge for brunch or any of the alcohol beverages we ordered. They also told us we could come back anytime for lunch or dinner. We made a reservation for dinner and ended up not going because we didn't want to dress up anymore. The service was okay and the food was good.

Hi fellow cruisers!
Very interesting stuff about Palo's. My parents had 11:30 ressies that day for brunch and while they enjoyed it very much, my mom thought it was strange that it wasn't a buffet. Their server brought out plates of chilled items and they then ordered a meal from a menu. We had never been on a Disney cruise before, so had nothing to compare the experience to. Is their buffet usually displayed on ice? It's surprising that Disney would be unaware of that regulation.
Hope everyone had uneventful trips home!

This has all peaked my curiosity as well!
We were also on the same cruise...and must've all been at Palo brunch at the same time!
We were told it was an electrical problem....By the time we were seated (which was close to 11 a.m.) we were able to order anything we wanted...Many different options were brought to our table, and we were assured that everything available on the original buffet was available to us. The entire meal was free because of the wait (we did leave our server a good tip, though!)
Everything doesn't quite add up to me, though...It was a bit creepy seeing the Coast Guards circling us....and passing by Palo's window....There was a lot of them there....More than would seem necessary to escort a Health official....We were told it wasn't uncommon to be escorted into port.....did seem strange though...
The Health Inspector idea does make a lot of sense though....That would explain why we could have everything we wanted to eat...just not on the buffet....
And I can't say for sure, but I thought the buffet at Topsiders was also closed for lunch....Another health issure perhaps???
Anyone else with information??

Disney is aware of the buffet regulations in the US according to our server but chooses to buffet the food without ice or heat. We were also told that the inspection was also of the engineering spaces (from the VP of engineering to my ear) and ship legal documents, certificates etc. The escorting CG sailors were waving to passengers throughout the ride. Probably just a routine "random" boarding.

While you guys are all fondly remembering your recent cruise, I was hoping you might be able to help my children out. We are going to be on the Magic in December and they are asking me what movies they will be showing. Do any of you remember the October movies? Thanks!

Hi everyone,
It was so good to meet and hang out with all of you! We tried to get a lot of family pictures taken by the ship's photographer and came out with a few really good ones. I already got one of them made into a Christmas card!
Hank & Connie...I'm so jealous that you are off on another cruise, and through the Panama canal no less!!! Have a great time.
Julie
PS- For the movies, call the Disney Cruise line a week before you go and they will tell you what will be playing.
