Laura I know you are so proud of Caili. She looked wonderful in the skating costume and it sounds like she did a great job. (Although being from the deep south, I don't really understand how it is judged, I know it is a difficult sport)
Don't worry, Gretchen, I have no idea how it is judged either!
Dinner tonight was easy...Becky's leftover mutter paneer that she gave me and naan. I've found my new Indian take-out food source...Becky!

I was searching for slow cooker recipes and look what I found http://www.recipetips.com/ They have all kinds of recipes I temporarily got lost looking and forgot why I was there. :rotfl: I had no idea there were so many meatloaf recipes. Ok back to my search
I added this one to my bookmarks. There are a lot of recipes here!
Well, it is that time again and I do have a spooky menu planned:
Breakfast: Red-eye eggs
Lunch: Worm sandwiches
Dinner: Finger sandwiches, bat wings, goblin goo
Should be fun! All are invited!!!
Thank you for the recipe. Your menus are always such fun!
I've done that so many times before.:rotfl: There are so many websites out there, I found this one on the DIS boards and it's, well let's say unique:
http://thepioneerwomancooks.com/
I enjoyed this one too, Kathy. Added it as well.

I think tonight is going to be pasta with broccoli but it's kind of early and things might change.

Hi All!
We are having grilled filet mignon, some kind of noodles or rice from a bag and a salad.
Janice and Kathy, love those sights you posted. Thanks! :thumbsup2
Riley looks adorable!!!
Thank you!
Lauren I had to laugh at "poor" Riley and his old navy shirt.
I think I am going to run to the store today to see if they have any costumes left. Tom is the one that wants to dress him up...go figure!
Lauren Honestly girl, I tried to see from the photos what you were describing, but I have absolutely no visualization skills. I'll just have to wait to see the finished pics. The tile looks good though.
Thats cause its a mess!!! :scared1:
Lauren - Riley looks so cute!!!!!!:goodvibes
Thank you!
Alan and I really try to make the holidays special for the kids. Alan came from such a horrific childhood, and really has no memories whatsoever. He wants more for his kids. My childhood was pretty full of traditions, so we're trying to come up with a happy medium. My hope is that the kids will remember the fun family times, and forget about all the times I scream at them to do their chores, clean their rooms, etc. Hopefully it's working.
Glynis, If I did half as much as you, I'd be happy! You do a great job! :thumbsup2
I don't think I shared the pic of us from Barktoberfest a few weekends ago. Here is our family:
Aimee, sorry you had a rough day. I know all too well how it feels when a family member says mean things. My sisters have a habit of that. Just be strong and know that it is probably jealousy of some sort.
Good news about Pixie!!! Your pic is great! Thanks for sharing!
My Kady would love to see your pup dressed up...I am not going to show her because she has tried to dress the cats and that was not pretty :lmao::lmao:

Becky - That's the way DH likes his roast beef, how did you cook it and what cut of roast did you use? He doesn't care for "fall apart" roast, the kind most people like.:confused3
Tonight I'm trying the Chicken Enchilada recipe posted by rkwells. Also making refried black beans and taco rice.
Have a great day everyone!

Morning all! Well, we're back from our magical trip to WDW:sad1: But not too sad, really, we'll be back "home" in January! The weather for the most part was okay--just had some rain on Saturday for F&W. F&W was great, but it was really crowded, so not as much sampling as I would've liked. MNSSHP was AWESOME--one of the best times we've had at the MK! We're already trying to figure out how to do it again next year! I have some pics I'll post later--now it's time to get back to the daily grind
Oh, and WFD--probably spaghetti, b/c that's what I've got in the pantry!

Kathy - Thanks for the heads up on the Omaha steaks. I'll check into it this afternoon.
Tonight's dinner is a new recipe. Saucy pork chops. I haven't decided what I'm making to go with it. Probably either a corn pudding or cheesy orzo, whichever strikes my fancy tonight.

afternoon all--
I am doing a bit better, I even made it to Ross' last football game on Sunday!! I get to take my brace off for a few hours a day so that is VERY nice as well!!
I hope to start actually cooking real meals again after Halloween, with me feeling a bit better, and having a bit more use of my left hand, and then to have football done with, it should work out ok!!
Kathy--I hope you know that my heart was with you this past weekend!! You are doing so great with becoming a non smoker!!! I am proud of you my friend!!
Stephanie--glad you had a fun trip, when you get a moment, give us your highlights of it all!!
Lauren--I love your tile, it is beautiful!! I love picking out tile...I have piles of it for our upstairs bath remodel, that has been sitting there for 3 years as Kris is always doing everyone else's jobs, lol...such is life!
Glynis--I love your themed meal..I usually do a special themed snack in Ross class, but this year I will have to skip it, I will do a special holiday one before we leave for WDW instead.
Nancy--How is the knee doing?
It is a beautiful fall day here in Maine..sunny, 53 and we have our #1 Sox to boot!!! Ross is wearing a different Sox shirt every day this week...On Monday he wore all Sox gear from his hat, to his watch, to his own socks, lol!!
Tonight is Ross' halloween class for Karate..they dress up and do some different things. Supper will be sandwiches and veggies and dip.
Hope everyone has had a good day!

Dinner tonight will be bow tie pasta in a cream sauce with chicken and broccoli. I hope it's good. The recipe sounded good. Cross your fingers!!!
It's taken me a while to get on today, as I've had to deal with Halloween crap! Leslie ripped her Snow White costume at a party last weekend, so I had to fix that. I also had to figure out how to make a size 7 stuffed dragon costume fit a size 4 little girl. Last, but not least, I had to make a Sacagawea costume for Katie's wax museum tomorrow. Got it all done, but the fringe. I'll do that as soon as Katie gets home and kicks me off the computer.
Stephanie - It's good to see you back. I want to hear all about the surprise!
Lauren - What costume did you end up with? There were tons of adult size costumes left at Walmart when I went this morning.

Hey all! I'm back from WDW also but Rick's got me working on data so much this it the first chance I've had to get on. I worked on time tickets yesterday at home and stayed in my jammies all day! Didn't even realize it till it was time to collapse!:lmao: So i finished those and emailed them to him and already had a file waiting for me to transcribe. I need to catch up at the store too but here I am!:rotfl2:
We had a fun time at F&WF! The Village People were a scream! We sat in the front row and the Indian came over after the show and grabbed my hand and called me Baby Girl! (insert swoon here) Let me tell ya, I haven't been a baby girl in a loooonnnnnngggg time! :rotfl: But I had fun singing along and I think Rick was suprised that I knew all the words (my secret fetish- disco). Could only have been better if it was longer and followed by the BeeGees, but sadly that's not to be!:rolleyes1
Party for the Senses was great! The food was amazing! Details to follow when I have the program in hand and can remember everything. My "old-timers" is setting in!
And let me tell you- Sheryl is the same in person as she is online! We had a great time. I still haven't unpacked but when I do I'll get some pics on here.
WFD tonight? Ground turkey something with something on the side and water (with a little Diet Coke thrown in for dessert). Trying to drink more water is getting to me....but I made it through Disney drinking more water than Coke...but that paled in comparison to the wine and beer.:cool2:

Welcome back Stephanie and Lori!
I spent all day sewing Caili's Halloween costume (my Dad said that if there was an opposite for the Latin Semper Paratus -- always prepared -- it would be Semper Lauras) so dinner tonight was pasta with jarred pasta sauce and spinach. It was all I could manage in 15 minutes.

Tonight we are having a pasta casserole with ground turkey. I can't remember if I posted the recipe, it sounds terrible but tastes very good and holds well. We tend to have drop in visitors on Halloween night so I need food that can be reheated and still be good. Kady cannot have it but she is not going to eat much tonight so Marisa can fix her something.
We are also having some vegan no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies and Roly Poly Buggy Balls. I am going make a chocolate pumpkin cake if I can squeeze it in.
Laura I found a vegan website that has some interesting recipes that kids will enjoy. I don't have to make my own subs so maybe Kady will like them better than the ones I have tried so far.
Every one have a safe a and spooky Halloween!!!!!

Laura I almost sprayed my keyboard with Diet Coke reading this. :lmao: :lmao: Thanks for the morning laugh. And for the record - I'm AMAZED at what you get done each day. Especially since you are by yourself most of the time. I don't know if I would have the patience or the stamina.
How on Earth does everyone keep up? I think I have serious time management issues now that I am home :confused3 because I can't manage as much as when I was working full time???????
It's quite simple really - I DIS at work (shhhhh, don't tell the boss). I'd much rather be DISing than working. I usually can fit 15 minutes here or there, but on busy days at work I get lost here.

Lauren, are you not out of your mind excited about your trip?!? I didn't realize how close it was until I noticed your ticker this morning.
Last night's dinner did not go exactly as planned. We ended up having cube steak in milk gravy, mashed potatoes and field peas. I've haven't ever fixed this before because Kenny said he wasn't wild about it, but it was a request from one of the kids. Anyway, about halfway through, Kenny said it was the best he had ever eaten and wanted to know how I got the meat so tender.
It seems that his memory of this meal is the way his mom made it - meat cooked to a hard, tough patty with gravy spooned on top.
Tonight's dinner, barring any more defrosting mishaps, is going to be a baked mexican chicken (except I called it spanish chicken - trying to fool Kenny who says he doesn't like mexican). It is a new recipe and I hope it turns out well.
Happy Halloween everyone!

Happy Halloween, everyone! I just got the kids out the door, all decked out in their costumes. Katie as Sacagawea, Jacob as Capt. Jack, Leslie as Snow White (except a last minute rip had us digging through the costume box, and a quick substitution as a glamorous witch), and Mary as a dragon. I'll post pictures later.
The kids decided they didn't want my bat wings for dinner, so we're going to have "finger" sandwiches with "blood" soup. At least they'll have something hot to eat before trick or treating. We'll probably eat early, around 5:00, since they want to go out early.

Hey Y'all,
Sorry I'm having a tough time checking in, with the remodeling going on I'm a bit crazed!
Lori, I was wondering where you were! I was hoping that maybe you & Rick extended your fooding & wining a couple of days! But no such luck, uh? ;)
I don't know if being the same here & in real life is a good thing or not, but what you read & see is what you get! :lmao: We had a blast meeting y'all, I just wish I could have seen the Village People with ya! Sounds too cool!
I have to go back to the tile place today with Bob & Mario. The travertine is running darker than usual & the accent tiles didn't blend well, so we have to try to find something & I'm NOT going to blow the budget all by my self!
I've got to get to the grocery & fix two pots of chili (one w/beans) & hot dogs for trick or treating tonight. And try to keep Alexis from putting on her costume as soon as she comes home from school!
Y'all have a great Halloween!

Lauren- I did not realize that you were so close! You have got to be excited!!!!!!!!
Sheryl- I almost did not survive one renovation, I know I would not make it through two! It is going to be so worth it when you are finished though.
I have got the cookies done for Kady but I am not sure if I like them. I think I have got to get used to soy milk before I can tell how things taste. The chocolate pumpkin cake seems to have come out okay. I did follow the recipe, although it is very hard for me, and hope that the little dip in the middle is supposed to be there :lmao:. I am so not a baker unless I start with a box. You cannot screw them up!

Happy Halloween everybody!
No photos again last night. I got caught up in a crush at the commuter train because of the Red Sox parade, and so didn't get home until about 8. I made the egg dish that you've already seen, some sliced tomatoes, and some crusty bread, and called it dinner. My DH went to the parade and got some cool pictures though, so that was nice.
Tonight I am making coconut-crusted shrimp with a spicy mango-mustard dipping sauce, pigeon peas and rice, caribbean cole slaw, and cinnamon-cardamom mashed sweet potatoes.
Kathy, I saw you asked about the beef roast, but I did not actually cook that meal--my Mom did. Laura makes roast beef sometimes so maybe she can give some advice.

Laura, can you help? My DH likes the "fall apart roast",but he would love one cooked med rare and sliced. Any tips on cooking method and cut of roast would be great!
I will definitely help. I just have to find my roast chart...give me a day.
Laura - do you have a recipe for the shrimp?
It's Becky you want. I don't make shrimp, due to Liam's allergy.
In typical Semper Lauras fashion, I had no dinner materials in the house tonight, so I decided to order out pizza after Caili was done skating. This was a bad idea, since apparently, everyone else in my town decided to order pizza at the same time. I got my order 70 minutes after I ordered it. They said it would be ready in 30. Grr. However, my dad had the foresight to take the kids out, so they ate when they were tired of trick-or-treating. The only problem was that I only got one, pretty bad, picture of them tonight. I will take a better picture in the next couple of days and post it. Liam was a skeleton and Caili was a bunny.
Happy Halloween!

Tonight we are going to my grandmother's house for dinner.
WFD at your house?
ETA: I'm so excited, you guys. I am going to go make some homemade granola for our trip here in a few minutes. It's really starting to feeling like vacation time in our house!!!!! Here's the recipe if anyone wants it. It's quick, easy, and delish!!
Oven-roasted Maple GORP (Good Old Raisins and Peanuts)
3/4 cup maple syrup
1 cinnamon stick
1 vanilla bean, split
1 cup oats
1 cup peeled hazelnuts ***Don't feel like you have to use the nuts suggested in this recipe. As long as you have 3 cups of nuts, you are fine. Most of the time I just use a "deluxe mix," it has everything in it.***
2 cups whole natural almonds
1/2 cup golden raisins, a couple of handfuls
1/2 cup dried sweetened cranberries, (recommended: Craisins brand) a couple of handfuls
1/2 cup shelled pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds
1 cup chocolate and candy coated peanuts (recommended: Peanut M&Ms)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Place maple syrup on the stove with cinnamon and vanilla over medium low heat to infuse the flavor. Warm syrup a couple of minutes, remove.
Combine oats, hazelnuts, almonds, raisins, cranberries and seeds in a bowl. Toss with maple syrup and remove the cinnamon stick and vanilla bean. Spread the maple coated mixture out on a cookie sheet and roast 15 minutes. Remove the nuts from oven and transfer to another cold pan, tossing the mix to quick-cool it. Once cool, toss with peanut candy and eat or pack up for a hike!

This sounds yummy! I cannot believe you are making this now...I get nauseous (sp) just thinking of getting packed and out of the house in time for my 7:50 am flight! Yes, right now I am sitting here ready to puke from my nerves. :scared1:
I am not sure WFD...I have alot of last minute stuff to do today: nails, walmart, library, get hair done for me and A...we may have beef barley soup and grilled cheese or maybe chinese. Tom is not feeling well so he may be home today (nasal infection). Good thing is: he got some motion sickness meds from the dr too so I'll be dragging him on all the rides again! :thumbsup2
Have a great day all!

Lindsay I'm sorry I didn't notice your ticker either! I guess I need to start paying closer attention. I hope you and your husband have a wonderful time. We will expect a full food report upon your return so be prepared. ;)
Tonight's dinner is the beef stew from the recipe Kathy linked to at allrecipes. It is in the crock pot now and Kenny and the kids will have that tonight. I am going with my sister and one of Kenny's sisters to a local mexican restaurant for our annual Thanksgiving planning session. This will be our third year of the combined family Thanksgiving and because I have saved the prior years' menus along with our notes and post-turkey day thoughts we could probably plan this in 10 minutes over the phone. But where would the fun in that be? :rotfl: This way we get a night out, a couple of margaritas, and a great time together. :woohoo:
I hope everyone has a great day!

Lauren, You know you are I are so much alike it's scary! ;) I know exactly how you are feeling right now!!! But in just a few days you will be partying big time!!!
You asked for more F&W info, I hope you have time to read this before you take off!
I didn't take pictures of much at the F&W booths, sorry. But everything was delicious, (except the Argentinian beef with chimichurri sauce. Which was fabulous last year, but this year was like a slab of pot roast sitting on mashed potatoes with a pool of oil surrounding it, yuck!) But really other than that it was all wonderful, the really yummy ones that stick out was Argentina's Empanada, Germany's Spaetzle with mushroom ragout & the Kabinett Reisling, followed by the Apple Strudel with vanilla sauce with the Reisling Spatlese!!! One of the best dry but fruity red wine's I've ever tasted was available at Spain's booth, Abadia Retuerta Seleccion Especial. I have to see if I can get it here! We were served it at both the Coral Reef Pairing & the Morroccan Pairing with beef dishes.
Here's a pic of Bob & I at the Coral Reef Pairing which was wonderful! Don't we look relaxed & happy!

Oh, my fav new drink though was the Italian Margarita from the Italy booth (the regular one not the F&W one). It has limoncello & grappa in it, Lori called it Lemon Freon!:lmao: But I thought it was wonderful ( & it didn't make me TOO loopy!) :goodvibes

Are you sure you want to stick with that statement?!?;) :rotfl2: HO LEE COW! That stuff was strong! If it wasn't frozen I bet you could set it on fire! However if I wasn't swilling wine and beer the whole time it would've been good!:rotfl:
And a heads up for the Rosa fans- The line at the Italy store is generally pretty long. Don't know how our secret got out;) but it did. But, I did a little recon work and have a couple of woohoo's! The Festival Center is at the Life pavillion- they have it at the wine bar there for $6.75ish- no line at all! And at Eat to the Beat off to the left side is a bar. I think everyone can get to it(it's over by where they let in the Party for the Senses people)- Rosa is $6 a glass, also almost no line.
As far as booths- We loved the Chilaqulies from Mexico the most. The butternut squash soup from India was good again but the samosa with tamarind sauce set my mouth on fire! My lips were numb- but if you like that it was pretty good. And my favorite white wine is at India too- SULA it's a chenin blanc. Very crisp and clean.
The lamb chop from Australia was good, but smaller than last year and more expensive I think. And I thought the cheddar soup was better last year. Rick loves the Plum Wine and green tea cooler from China(make sure to squeeze the lime in it) but alot of us thought it was too sweet (hence the lime!). The Sam Adams Festival beer tastes like Bass Ale(yummmmmmm) so we had that plenty o'times. And do the Australian Wine Walkabout! It was $7 (I think) for 4 tastes (1 oz or so). There were 12 wines to choose from. So, of course we paid for 3 cards so we could taste all 12!:scared1: :lmao: We didn't want to slight anyone!:rotfl2:
I'm sure there's more, but I still haven't unpacked all that yet.

And this is what I'm making when I get home tonight (after buying half price Halloween candy). It's from Rachel Ray magazine. And it's Kathy Easy and yummy!
Chocolate Banana Bread Puddings
Makes 12 Puddings
1 tsp unsalted butter
2 TBsp brown sugar
3 bananas, sliced 1/3 inch thick
1 cup milk
2 large eggs
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
10 slices of white bread, lightly toasted
6 1.55oz milk chocolate bars, broken into small pieces
1. Preheat the oven to 350. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper or foil liners.
2. In a nonstick skillet, melt the butter with the brown sugar over moderately high heat. Add the banana slices and cook, turning once, until carmelized, about 3 minutes. The bananas should be softened and sticky. Remove from heat and let cool.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs and vanilla.
4. Stack the toasted bread, slice off the crusts and cut the bread into 4 triangles.
5. Add the bread to the custard and let soak until the custard is absorbed, about 10 minutes. Stir in the cooled caramelized bananas and the chocolate.
6. Spoon the mixture into the prepared muffin cups(they'll be full). Bake the puddings until puffy and golden, about 25 minutes.

Yes, I will stick with my statement! Since I was able to make it all the around to the Pub to try your "Rich Man's Black Velvet" Guinness & Champagne, I was not loopy at all! You know what, I think I made up for everything I drank with the amount of food I also consumed! I didn't even get a headache or an upset stomach from it all! :goodvibes
And oh yeah I forgot about the Samosa's & the butternut squash soup! More of my favorites! The lamb chop was very good but smaller & the Cheddar cheese soup was even better this year. Oh and the chilled leek soup from Ireland was surprisingly very good!

:lmao: I figured if there were any IBS problems you would have called so I could suffer with you!:rotfl: I did fine with all the booths but Party for the Senses sent me for the Pepto. All the flavors and textures sent heartburn into overdrive. Not to mention the Utopia and Remy Martin VSOP. I was kind of (kind of , mind you) disappointed at PFTS because it was Tattinger instead of Vive Qlicqot. But I got over it. My favorite there was Andrew Selz with his smoked diver scallop. I might have went back there repeatedly.:rolleyes1 Like enough that I'm suprised they didn't just say... you again?!? here take the whole tray of them!:woohoo: :rotfl2:

I've said it before but all of my "regular" issues like IBS & sinus problems seem to disappear while in the World! I think I only had one day that my stomach was a little off, which is amazing considering everything I ate day in & day out! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the Party, we sat with Brenda-oybolshoi, & she & I were rather depressed over the Sparkling offerings also. But we found ways to cope too! Andrew Selz wasn't at our party, but we did catch his Culinary Demo at Odyssey, he prepared & served the most wonderful cedar plank stuffed chicken breast with a truffle polenta! It was TDF & he went and told us he was going to be serving the scallop for the upcoming Party, so I was already jealous of you! Did you get to do any of those demos, I really enjoyed those!
Lindsay & Lauren, if you can try to check those out, but get there early they fill up quickly especially on the weekends. Also the free wine seminars & welcome center is "up front" in the Wonders of Life bldg. & the Sam Adams tasting off to the side of the American Pavillion are all good!

After 2 nights of "grab and go" type meals.... we are having meatloaf, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans almondine tonight. I'm going to make the meatloaf in muffin tins so that they are all portioned out.... portion size is my downfall (one of them anyway :thumbsup2 ) I do however REFUSE to serve my mashed potato with an ice cream scoop... brings back some bad childhood memories..

Hi all. I haven't been cooking (or shopping) lately so I haven't had anything to post. Tuesday DS had a school project that he needed help with so we ordered pizza and wings. Last night I found out at the last minute that DS invited a friend to go TorTing with him and his whole family kind of invited themselves to our house too. So I had to clean, instead of make dinner. DH and DS had leftover teriyaki chicken and I had Halloween candy.
Tonight we're not doing much better - grilled smoked sausage, boxed mac & cheese, and canned corn.

Hello all
Sheryl--I love the picture of you and Bob..you both looked so relaxed and refreshed...what a beautiful couple you are!!
I also love the pic of the Nola girls as well.....Love the boas!!
Lori--My friend we have the same sense of humor I swear, lol....I LOVE your magic shell comment!! It reminds me of when I yelled across the busy grocery store if Ross wanted more of the princess cereal, hehehe.
I showed Ross the picture of you with the nola ladies, and he is very impressed that you just went, and then will be back in Dec. as well....just one more thing to add to the height of the pedestal he has you on, lol!
Nancy--How is Kady feeling? I send her big hugs, poor thing.
Lauren--What a day...as Kathy said, you deserve your Rosa for sure!! How is Tom feeling?
I spent the morning out shopping with mil (lucky me, ugh, what hell that was) to get a shower gift for Kris' cousin's baby shower this weekend. Sat morning we have a karate tournament, then the shower in the evening, and once the shower ends, we are heading down to freeport to llbean to get Ross winter clothes and such, we will have to stop and pick up a few groceries as well on the way back through too. I will be looking forward to Sunday for sure!!
Dinner tonight is up in the air...I will eat my longhorn leftovers, and the "boys" are on their own. Ross will prob have eggs and toast after karate, and Kris will eat cereal I imagine.

Heck, now I'm boxing up Christmas decorations and fixin's to ship down! That boy's gotta trot to keep up here!:lmao: It's good to have you back my twisted sister! :rotfl: and yep, I've been known to once or twice yell across the store to pick up some pads or condoms to embarass the people I'm with. I just can't help myself....it's like a gag reflex, you just can't stop it. But I've learned not to do it to Rick anymore.... I loudly "whispered" the condom thing to him back in the day (he was waiting for it, I'm sure) and his response was to whoop and yell yippeeee! He was gonna get lucky....:scared1: Needless to say it's far more fun when I'm not the one turning 500 shades of red.:sad2:

Good for you! I am so proud!
Sheryl- both you and Bob look so relaxed. I would love to get Buddy down for a pairing like that, he would enjoy it I think. No way this time of year though. And you spiffy looking NOLA ladies, sporting your green boas! What a great time you all had.
I have to confess that I would have loved to see Lori in action! What fun you all had!
Lori- I have learned to be very careful when I want to tease Buddy in public. He has gotten me back big time :scared1:
Lauren- I hope that you got your meds back. Last thing you need before your trip.
Wendie- Kady is feeling better. She has the same cold that I had last week so I know it is going to linger with her, but the little tiger ate all day long and was bored to tears so she is going to school tomorrow.
The cookies that I made for Kady were awful. I remember them from school when I was little and they were a little like fudgy oatmeal praline type things. These were just yucky. I am going to try again but I am going to Nanatize this time. I saw some with maple syrup so I am going to try adding some for sweetness.
I am not sure about the cake. It is a cross between a brownie and a cake. One more piece to see if I like it :rolleyes1
Leftovers were good tonight, Buddy is not home from work so he gets to finish them when he gets home.

Good for you, Kathy! I'm sorry you had a tough day, but I am so proud of you that you beat it.
I actually made dinner tonight, and after all the grab-what-you-can type meals we've been having this week, it was really good. We had lamb chops, rice, roasted asparagus, and cheesy cauliflower casserole. I also made plain roasted cauliflower for the kids. The kids ate like they hadn't eaten for a week.

Sheesh, just back from vacation and no time for recovery! We've been going non-stop since Monday. I really need to post some pics and a trip summary, but there has been no time. Maybe tomorrow. Oh, and just a synopsis of Emma figuring out the surprise "OMGosh, Mickey, Cinderella, OMGosh!!!" Jumping up and down pumping her fists in the middle of the orlando airport (right around the fountain).
Tonight's dinner was yummy--and I'll get around to posting the recipe probably tomorrow--It was sausages and onions braised with balsamic vinegar with horseradish mashed pots.
Tomorrow I'm making dinner for our church group again and they've requested Becky's Lemon Balsamic Roasted Chicken! Seriously, in the email I got they want me to make my "famous chicken recipe" again! Thanks Becky!

Lori--Oh my, We are going to have some laughs...I love to embarrass others with "fun" comments:rotfl: I did a condom joke on friends this past summer....We had stopped to get soda's before all 4 of us were going to a park band concert, and they were getting vitamins (kinda amusing that the vitamins and condoms are near each other, but anyway) and I yelled over to them that I had found the condoms they were looking for, but all they had were smalls, not the extra smalls and if they could just roll them down a bit?...laugh?!!? holy moly did we all laugh....well except for Dave, he just shook his head and walked off :rotfl:
I love to have people laughing, ...and the good thing is I can dish it, and take it too, lol. I am super sarcastic, and after a couple of drinks, I find I am even funnier,:rotfl2: .........

Good Morning all..
Lindsey--Have a wonderful, safe trip, looking forward to a report when you get back!!!
Today I will go spend an hour or two up at the school, we have our annual auction this weekend, and I said I will help get baskets set up for it. (each grade has a theme basket that parents buy items for, and we auction it off..it is a huge hit, Ross' grade was... snow day) other items are donated, from local merchants. I can only do a bit this year, but it will be good to get out and another mother is picking me up as I can't drive yet.
Dinner tonight will be chicken with SBR, cous cous, and brown sugar glazed carrots.
Have a great day!!

Morning Y'all,
Lindsay & Lauren have a great trip!
Lauren you can be our adopted Noola gal!:lmao:
I can tell y'all we had so much fun meeting up, Bob said we looked a group of old Sorority sisters getting together again, instead of girls who just met each other!
Nancy & Wendie, I have been driving around with your coffee & addresses in the car all week! Hopefully I remember to put it in the mail sometime soon. I'm just so out of the groove with the remodeling going on.
Today I'm cooking Shrimp Alfredo for Alexis' little birthday party here tonight. Just a very small family party. I think I'll marinate the shrimp, & if the day works out well grill the shrimp if not I'll just toss them in with the sauce & pasta. Salad & french bread & a (bakery) Care Bear cake will finish it off!

Kathy, don't spend too much time worrying about New England weather. Whenever they say it is going to be bad, it usually isn't. It's when they say we are going to get brushed by or just get a light dusting when we end up losing electricity for a week or shoveling out three feet of snow. Around this time, the saying is, "Don't like the weather?? Wait a minute."
Dinner tonight was leftover pizza from Wednesday. Liam had basketball and Caili had a birthday party this afternoon, so we didn't have a lot of time to eat.

We will get some strong winds, and a bunch of rain, and the sun will be back on Sunday:)

Dinner last night was good! The pizza muffins were so good. I had baked potatoes with them and was planning on steamed broccoli but I forgot it on the stove and it burned :scared:. Gosh, that was awful!
Tonight Buddy and I are taking Kady and a friend of hers to the ballet to see Sleeping Beauty, so we are going to take them for dinner first. I think we are going to head towards Friendly's because her friend is a McDonalds girl and I am not going to Mickey D's for supper. If Buddy gets home from work early enough we may head in the opposite direction and take them to Red Robin.
The rest of my family is having dinner at my oldest D and then going to see Saw. Donny is a good cook but somewhere he got the idea that you should not clean your grill racks :scared: because then you get better flavor. Marisa and Dan told him that they don't want any extra flavor so he better clean those racks before putting any food on them! I would love to be a fly on the wall tonight. They like to get to the movies early to get their popcorn seat etc. Donny heads in just as the previews are ending. He also likes seats empty around him and they all line up. Morning ya'll! Thinking of all our NE ladies today! Hope the weather isn't too bad. We're gonna be near 80 again today--geez, isn't it November???? Doesn't feel much like fall around here!
Last night's chicken was a huge hit again! Thanks Becky! And I tried a new potato recipe and it was yummy too!
Ranch Mashed Potatoes
13 cups cubed red potato (about 4 lbs)
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/4 cup buttermilk
3 tablespoons butter, softened
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp dried basil
3/4 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp dried dill
Place potatoes in a Dutch Oven; cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes or until tender. Drain. Place potatoes in a large bowl. Add remaining ingredients and mash to desired consistency
And here is the dinner recipe from a couple nights back
Sweet Sausages Braised in Onions with Horseradish Smashed Potatoes
2 lbs small red potatoes, cut into quarters
Coarse salt
1 tbsp EVOO
8 links sweet Italian sausage
2 med. yellow onions, sliced
2-3 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
3 garlic cloves, chopped
Black Pepper
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 cups chicken stock
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp butter
1/4-1/3 cup sour cream
1 tbsp prepared horseradish
1/4-1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup flat leaf parsley
Place pots. in a pot and cover with water. Cover the pot and bring to a boil. Salt the water. Take off the lid and boil the pots. until tender
Heat a lg skillet over med-high heat with EVOO. Add the sausage links and brown on all sides. Remove sausages from skillet and reserve.
To the skillet at the onions, thyme, and garlic. Season with salt/pepper. Cook the onions, stirring frequently, until they begin to brown. Add the vinegar, chicken stock, and honey. Bring liquid to a simmer, then add the sausages back to the pan and braise the sausages until they are cooked through and the sauce has reduced by half--8-10 min
Drain the pots and return them to the hot pot to dry them out. Add the butter, sour cream, horseradish,a nd milk to the pots. Smash to desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper.
Divide the pots. among 4 dishes and top with 2 sausage links, onions, and braising liquid

Ranch Mashed Potatoes
13 cups cubed red potato (about 4 lbs)
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/4 cup buttermilk
3 tablespoons butter, softened
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp dried basil
3/4 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp dried dill
Place potatoes in a Dutch Oven; cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes or until tender. Drain. Place potatoes in a large bowl. Add remaining ingredients and mash to desired consistency
And here is the dinner recipe from a couple nights back
Sweet Sausages Braised in Onions with Horseradish Smashed Potatoes
2 lbs small red potatoes, cut into quarters
Coarse salt
1 tbsp EVOO
8 links sweet Italian sausage
2 med. yellow onions, sliced
2-3 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
3 garlic cloves, chopped
Black Pepper
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 cups chicken stock
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp butter
1/4-1/3 cup sour cream
1 tbsp prepared horseradish
1/4-1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup flat leaf parsley
Place pots. in a pot and cover with water. Cover the pot and bring to a boil. Salt the water. Take off the lid and boil the pots. until tender
Heat a lg skillet over med-high heat with EVOO. Add the sausage links and brown on all sides. Remove sausages from skillet and reserve.
To the skillet at the onions, thyme, and garlic. Season with salt/pepper. Cook the onions, stirring frequently, until they begin to brown. Add the vinegar, chicken stock, and honey. Bring liquid to a simmer, then add the sausages back to the pan and braise the sausages until they are cooked through and the sauce has reduced by half--8-10 min
Drain the pots and return them to the hot pot to dry them out. Add the butter, sour cream, horseradish,a nd milk to the pots. Smash to desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper.
Divide the pots. among 4 dishes and top with 2 sausage links, onions, and braising liquid
Those potatoes sound GREAT!!! I might have to try that sometime this week.

I hope "noel" is nothing more than a little rain storm for all of you on the Atlantic side.
Lindsay/Lauren I hope you have a great trip.
Lori I don't want to disappoint you but I don't think those are the orginal members of the Village People. I don't think I can listen to Ymca the same way anymore. At a wedding several years ago the wedding party including the grooms dad did a rendition of Ymca in his underwear. It was way to much for me. I looked at my husband and we left shortly after before anymore came off.:rolleyes1
Tonight I'm being lazy we had a frozen pizza.Nope, none of the originals- but they still sound good.

So far, we're surviving the weather here. It is very windy and is now raining pretty hard. I am hoping it lets up because the kids are going to a pajama/movie night and I'm going to a cocktail party with my neighbors. We are all going to be very soggy if the rain continues.
I did make dinner this afternoon. I had linguine and clams and garlic bread, which was probably not the best choice right before heading to a social gathering. I feel like I have garlic exuding from my pores.

Hi all - I'm still playing catch-up from vacation. Work was crazy and my MIL had neck surgery on Tuesday so we've been a bit busy. I still haven't gotten to the grocery; that's on tomorrow's agenda!
Looks like lots of good recipes and web sites have popped up here; I'll need to take a better look at all the posts. We had hot dogs and chili for dinner. Tomorrow my DH wants to make the Cheddar Cheese Soup from Canada. So hopefully that will be dinner tomorrow!
I hope all you ladies up north stay safe, warm and dry. Becky - that chicken looks really good!
Wendie - good to see you posting again; hope you are finally feeling better.
Kathy - great to see you kicking the habit! Hang in there; I know you can do it.

Morning all!!
Our power just came back on after being out for about 4 hours...nothing major..through the sleeping hours which is always good....it is still pretty windy out, but the rain is over with for the most part...we just had one pretty big branch come down, and it missed anything of importance in the yard, a lot of small branches everywhere and caught on the fences etc...sooo I know what Ross will be doing today, lol. We will stick them in the neighborhood burn pile, I have a feeling that we will be having 2 or 3 of these going as everyones yards look about the same, lol. Kris will have to chainsaw the bigger branch, and that will go into the wood pile to dry out for next year. Kris is gone for the day taking out docks for our customers who have camps about 2.5 hours away, so he will have to do it some evening this week, as he won't be back until late tonight.
Just mother nature getting us ready for ole man winters arrival!
Dinner tonight will be steak tips with sbr honey chipolte (sp) sauce, this is our fav right now, it is mmmmmm. I will make fresh green beans and noodles of some sort to go along with it.
I hope you all have a great sunday morning! I am going to spend the day putting away the winter items, and such from llbean. I just love that store and only go 3x a year as we all go nuts there, lol. I still buy Ross way to many clothes, shoes and pj's from there, lol.

Good morning, everyone! Sorry I haven't checked in lately. Things got really crazy here with Halloween, school projects, etc. We haven't been eating really well, mostly just stuff thrown together, so I haven't done much checking in.
We are back in the swing of things today, though. I'll be making flank steak with orange sauce, baked potatoes, broccoli, and apple crisp for dinner tonight. I can't wait!!! My BIL went to Idaho and brought us back 25 pounds of Idaho bakers, and they are HUGE!!!
This is going to be a crazy week for us! Jacob turns 8 on Thursday, so we'll be having his favorite dinner then: teriyaki salmon! His baptism will take place on Saturday, and that means COMPANY!!! All the extended family will be in town for that! We will be hosting a party afterwards, and I'm planning on doing a nacho bar for that. Alan and I are providing the chips and nacho cheese, and everyone else will be bringing their favorite nacho topping, and some kind of dessert (cookie, brownies, etc.). I think I'll also make a crockpot full of my lime chicken nacho topping. I've been craving that, lately.
I hope I'll be able to chat this week, but my house is in sore need of my attention. We've spent this last week getting the outside of the house winter ready, and now it's time for the inside. Wish me luck!!!

Hi All! Just checking in, I don't know where the day has gone but it went pretty darn fast!
I am glad that my coastal friends fared okay yesterday, you certainly got more than us, the storm seemed to stop at RT 91, so we just got some wind and the sky was overcast. You all got so much more :grouphug:
Last night was Friendly's, not my favorite place but the kids wanted it. I felt bad because they have no sorbet on the menu and the little Baskin Robbin closed so the server gave Kady a sundae glass of Oreos.
Tonight is strip steak on the grill with a garlic butter sauce, chicken drumsticks for Marisa, mashed potatoes, brocolli...hopefully not burnt...and salad and garlic bread. We has fried Queso Blanco, bread and olive oli and balsamic vinegar to start. Dan brought a pumpkin cheese pie with streusel topping for dessert and some vegan cookies for Kady.

Hi everyone. Sorry I have been missing for the past few days, but to paraphrase a Christmas song:
On the third week before vacation my true love gave to me...3 sick children, 2 broken appliances, and a smoke detector going off at 5:00 a.m. Yes friends, all 3 kids are sick with the runny nose, cough, low fever; my dishwasher started leaking all over my kitchen floor; the washer quit in mid-cycle and did not want to start over; and the dust burning off in the heating vents set off our smoke detector this morning bright and ugly. So tomorrow will involve a doctor visit and hopefully a visit from the repairman for the appliances.
Add this to the other obligations of the weekend and it made for a very busy time. The kids are now in bed and this is the first time I have had a chance to catch up. Please forgive me if I miss anything.
lucas Welcome Back! It was really good to see you post again.

Nancy Did Kady and her friend enjoy swan lake? My heart broke about the oreos, it hurts my heart to imagine that baby watching her friend eat ice cream and her not having any.
What a weekend! I hope that the kids feel better soon and that all of the "glitches" are out of the way now. Kady's Dr hads her take Zithromax and she was feeling better within 24 hours. Hope that is the case with your little ones.
As to the ballet.....it was a bust :headache:
Kady was fine with the Oreos, my DH was not. He was irritated that we let her friend have any dessert and we did not have any. I wish that ice cream shops had something that was dairy free.
Now to the Ballet. It was Sleeping Beauty, the fairy tale version. I will never take anyone else's child with me anywhere where we are trapped or have spent a bundle on tickets. The kids were bored and my DH said he was tortured becasue when he would fall asleep his head would drop and that would wake him up :guilty:, but at least he was quiet.
Kady know better than to make a scene in public but her little friend decided to cry when I told her we were lot leaving during the break. She wanted to have something to eat and there were options that Kady could have, I knew she was not hungry, she just wanted a candy bar. It went downhill from there. She cried, sniffled and then Kady started. We left during Act Three but I was not amused with any of them. Buddy said that I was mean but my kids never pulled that stunt and Kady never did before this, so no more friends on these little excursions. I spent over $200 for tickets and was furious as we left.
We have tickets to the Nutcracker in a few weeks. Marisa just smiled becasue she has had the same experience with this little girl and she has less patience than me. "I told you so" was all over her!

Hailey, on the other hand, well she tends to have a harder time fighting off colds and it seems like all of hers become bronchitis or an ear infection or something else. She is making a trip to the doctor today.
I have no idea at all what I'm making for dinner tonight. All I know is it will be some kind of pork as that is all I have in the fridge.
Have a great day everyone!

Morning all--
Kathy-- you are doing super!! I am so proud of you!!
Gretchen-- I was wondering where you were. Sorry the kiddos are not feeling well, I hope Hailey can fight this better then she normally does, keep us posted on how her Dr. appt goes, and how Amanda and Patrick are feeling too.
Nancy-- What a bummer of an evening for all of you! I would not have been to pleased with how it all went either. fingers crossed that the next one goes much better!! :)
Aimee-- You will do a wonderful job!!

Well I have a sick kiddo at home today myself, Ross wasn't himself at his tournament on Sat. and when he lost after his first fight on Sat without much of a competitive side showing, I looked at Kris and said "uh oh" I bet he is getting sick.....yep, by Sunday evening he was a sniffling sneezing snotty mess, lol......he was up about 3x last night because he couldn't breath due to his super stuffy nose,(oh the drama) when I went to get him up this morning, one look told me that if I sent him I would be getting a phone call by 9 at the latest to come get him. Soo he is on the couch, I would rather keep him home for one day, then send him only to have him end up missing 2 because I pushed. I knew he did not feel good when he didn't argue with me about staying home, he hates to miss school, Kris is going to pick up his homework for him this afternoon.
Supper tonight will be the steak tips I didn't get to making last night as Kris ended up bringing home pizza.
Hope you all are having a nice November Monday!

Morning Y'all,
It's going to be a red beans & rice Monday here. Which I'm very sorry about, after seeing Becky's lambchops!!!!! Maaannn does that look good or what?!!! :thumbsup2
Gretchen, So sorry all the kids were sick, I hope Hailey gets well quick! Hopefully in a couple of weeks everyone will be well & ready for VACATION!!!:goodvibes
Wendie, Hope Ross gets well quick too!:flower3:
Nancy, I'm giving Nana permission to never ever take one of Kady's friends to anything EVER again!!!!!! What a bummer, after shelling out that much money to have to leave early. :sad2:

Aimee -- I am sure you will do great. :thumbsup2
Gretchen -- I am sorry you had such a tough weekend! I hope everyone gets better quickly, so you can get back to thinking about your trip.
Wendie -- Hopefully, the day on the couch gets Ross feeling more like himself too.
Nancy -- That's terrible about the ballet. We took Liam and Caili to see the Nutcracker last year, and they both enjoyed it. I can't think of a ballet more child-friendly than the Nutcracker -- lots going on, very few long slow parts -- so maybe without her friend, Kady (and you) will have a better experience.
I have lots of leftovers from yesterday, so right now, that is what I am planning to have for dinner. There's a lot of time between now and when I eat though.

 What a nightmare!

I am not sure what's for dinner. I forgot to thaw anything. I also forgot to grab my lunch that I packed and left on the counter, too. I guess I lost my mind this morning!
Thanks for the well wishes for the week. Imagining those 1600 eyes staring back at me freaks me out. For 18 straight minutes. That's a freakin long time to be stared at!
I worked with my pastor this morning again on it and it's coming together really well so I'm getting a little more confident. I'll feel better once it's done and I can stand in the sanctuary and just practice over and over again. Maybe Wed I can do that.

I had planned chicken, curried sweet potatoes and a veggie for dinner but the contractor who we hired to fix the mistakes in the kitchen showed up this morning just as I was leaving. Aimee, I'm sorry I'm not much help either. For a while, I was good about planning menus, but now I am back to the going to the grocery store almost every day routine.
Kathy, here, at long last, is the roast recipe:
Mom's old-fashioned roast (for medium-rare):
For all roasts, coat with flour and season well with salt and pepper. Mom also either adds garlic powder or makes small slits in the roast and inserts garlic slices. She puts fresh rosemary on top. She roasts in a regular baking dish.
Weekday roast: Cook a rump roast for 26 minutes/pound at 325. Rest, loosely covered with foil for 20 minutes.
Weekend roast: Cook sirloin roast for 21 minutes/pound. Rest, loosely covered with foil for 20 minutes.
Special Occasion Roast: Cook tenderloin roast 21 minutes/pound at 325. Rest, loosely covered with foil, for 10-20 minutes.
Serve with gravy.

Stephanie--try to take it easy...I know easier said then done, but try, I hope you feel better soon!!
Ross is feeling much better today, still sniffling and such, but no fever, and he has energy....he sounds awful,...and I am sure that he will be tired this afternoon, but still much better then yesterday, amazing what a day on the couch in your pj's can do for you, lol. Kids bounce back so fast!! This is the only his 3rd cold since his T/A in first grade!
I have physical therapy this morning, and then we have parent/teacher conf. this evening. Ross has karate tonight, but we will see how he feels after school if he will go or not. Supper tonight will be something out as we have one meeting at 5:45 with his gifted teacher, and then the other at 6:30 with his reg class teacher. It is chilly, and raining here today, and I would much rather stay in with a cup of tea and a good book, lol.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Nancy both of the roasts Laura posted are sliceable roasts. The difference is the cut of meat and therefore the rpice--the sirloin is more $$ per lb. than the rump. By spoon roast do you mean that the meat is so tender you can pull it apart with 2 sppons? If yes, than the closest thing I can think of to that is my Mom's recipe for pot roast. In general, all the meat cooked around here is pretty rare, and so would not be able to be pulled apart. I am sure Laura has the pot roast recipe too if you want it.

I haven't had a chance to post this before now, but I wanted to share the chicken marinade I made Sunday. It's from one of my favorite cookbooks (Grilling: Where There's Smoke There's Flavor) and it was really tasty. I used it for chicken wings, but it would be a good flavoring for any kind of chicken. Oh, and it says spicy, but it isn't hot...just flavorful.
Spicy Lime Chicken Marinade
2 limes, peeled and chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp paprika
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp salt
Combine lime, garlic, chili powder, paprika, and sugar in a glass or ceramic bowl. Add chicken and marinate for 2 hours or up to 8. Before cooking, sprinkle chicken with salt, then cook chicken accordingly. (Like I said, I used chicken wings -- this marinates 20 wings -- and cooked them under the broiler for about 20 minutes, turning once)
I served them with Creamy Avocado Salsa, which I may have posted before, but it's worth repeating so the recipes are in the same place.
Creamy Avocado Salsa
2 avocados, peeled, halved and pitted
6 scallions, white and light green parts
1 handful cilantro
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
2 tbsp olive oil
1 c sour cream
salt, black pepper
(I also add one jalapeno pepper, seeds and ribs removed)
Put all ingredients, except salt and pepper, in a food processor or blender and pulse to a smooth puree. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow flavors to blend. Serve chilled. This can be made one day in advance, if desired, but press plastic wrap directly on salsa to prevent discoloration and store in a lidded container.

Went to Universal and Magic Kingdom so far; the parks are empty.
Having food overload too...my sister is here (staying offsite) and we went to Macaroni Grill the first night, then Hard Rock and last night Cali Grill. OMG, that place is GREAT! The other 2 places were good as well.
Going to dinner with Sis again tonight then MGM tomorrow...Mama Melrose.
Sheryl and Stephanie, feel better and whoever else is feeling under the weather.
Happy Birthday Bob!
Kathy, hope your doing good...its gotta be over 3 weeks now. :thumbsup2

Just wanted to pop in and say afternoon, and check on how everyone's day is going.
It is pouring here, and dark like midnight, we have thunderstorm and high wind warnings until 6pm. I hope it blows the rest of the leaves off of my trees out front, so I can have the yard guy come and clean it up finally, lol. We have 2 trees outback that stay green until Thanksgiving and then they fall, it is very odd, we can't rake those up until spring as we have snow on the ground before they drop, lol.
Ross just got home from school, and like I thought, he is tired, but says he feels pretty good, just an awful runny nose, yuck, lol. He doesn't have a cough so that is good, I just hope it doesn't go to his sinuses he has terrible issues with that, he takes after me on that one.
He wants to go to karate, and since he has no fever and feels ok, I will let him. This week they are getting ready for the huge skirmish that is on Sunday...It is Ross' favorite, there are 2 events....sumo and grappeling...last year he placed 2nd in grappeling, and won 1st in sumo, he was the yuko zumo sumo champion and walked away with a HUGE trophy cup, and was interviewed on the news, lol. We have already had the talk about not expecting it to happen again, be prepared etc.
P/T was hard and odd, lol...hard, just cause it hurts like heck and odd because they put my arm in this machine that is full of ground up corn cobs, and is heated to 102 and it swirls all around your arm. It felt like being put in a sandblaster, it is to warm up the wrist before doing the p/t, and also it breaks down scar tissue? it was very odd, can't wait to see the bill on that one...thank god we have outstanding insurance, lol.
Kathy-- I am sorry your allergies are giving you some trouble, but I am glad you didn't get sick!!
Stephanie--don't worry about what you forgot at the store, let us know what you find out at the Dr's. Like the others have said lots and lots of fluids!!
Sheryl-- Please tell Bob I said Happy Birthday as well!! Don't push to hard on making his meal, try to get some rest.
Gretchen-- I hope the kiddo's are feeling better soon!! Like Nancy said we never want to see them sick, but better now then on vacation!
I wonder if it is a New England thing as warm jello is what I grew up on having when I was sick as well, and I made Ross some yesterday. That and tea with honey and lemon. (and ahem whiskey for the adults, lol)
Wow I sure had a chatty moment, lol

Sorry to hear about so many people not feelling well.
Lauren Glad to hear you are having a great time at SSR we had a great stay there. I didn't get lost once of course we were in a studio.;)
Tonight we are having chicken tortilla soup. Winter has befallen us. It supposed to get down into the 20's not a far drop from the 30's now.
Sheryl Happy birthday to Bob. I hope you start feeling better.
Wendy It's strange the equipment that the PT'S use. Make sure you are securely sitted when you look at the bill.
Ok off to heat up the soup and finish my computer work so I can watch Dancing tonight.

Good morning everyone. Last night we had bbq pork chops, fries, and corn (boring).
It's going to be a little cool here today so I'm making chili. This is our first cold front. It's 64 now and a high of 76 (normal is around 80). That's actually a little too cold for me. At least it's bright and sunny though. :sunny: :cool2:

Chicken Sausalito
That looks really good! I've printed it and plan on putting it in the rotation. However, I'll have to wait a little while. I didn't fool Kenny at call with the Spanish (mexican) chicken. He took two bites and knew.
Gretchen- better the infections run their course now than the kids fight it off for two weeks and boom! right in time for vacation. I hate to see them sick but sick for a vacation is the pits!
You're right, we went one year and had one sick child at the beginning of the week. By the end of the week, all of the children were sick and two of the adults. :sad2:
Spicy Lime Chicken Marinade
Creamy Avocado Salsa
Both of these look good! I've printed them for my file.
Wow. We may get snow once every 7-10 years so I have never thought about leaves, etc. I've especially not ever thought about having snow before Thanksgiving. Last year was a particularly cold Thanksgiving for us, but normally, we are in jeans and short sleeves, but it has been warm enough for shorts.
Another Lauren moment would be me yelling to BIL who was golfing right outside our balcony. I think the whole complex heard me. I can be so whiskey tango at times. :upsidedow
:rotfl: :rotfl: Oh Lauren, I was dying laughing as I read this. I'm glad you are having a great time. Isn't the hot tub in the 1BR units wonderful?
Wendy It's strange the equipment that the PT'S use. Make sure you are securely sitted when you look at the bill.
:lmao: :lmao: That is the truth! We have had some doozies from Hailey's various therapies. But part of it is that once a company finds out a product has theraputic value, they will triple the price. I found a case of massagers for $3 each wholesale (lady bugs, etc. used by kids with sensory dysfunction). And then when I looked it up in the therapy catalog, the EXACT same massager was $36. I kid you not. Talk about price gouging. I ordered four cases and left them at the OT's office for the other parents who were thrilled to be able to get them for $3 each.
Good morning everyone. Last night we had bbq pork chops, fries, and corn (boring).
Sandy, that is just the kind of meal my kids prefer. They would rather have "plain food" instead of the "fancy stuff".
Tonight's dinner is porcupine meatballs with vodka sauce. I haven't tried this yet so I hope it will be good. I have a meeting today with a representative of the Medicaid department to determine if Hailey is still eligible (meaning still disabled). She told me she would be there at 2:30 and when I asked if there was another time or day available, she was quite rude and said if I wanted Hailey to get Medicaid, I needed to make that time work. She called yesterday, so I had less than 24 hours notice and was thinking Hailey doesn't feel like being examined by anyone while sick, but this woman didn't really care.
This is mean of me, but I hope she catches the cold running through my house. It would serve her right. (I know, I'm a horrible person for thinking it.)
Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning All!
I hope that all of you who are sick or have sick little ones at home feel better soon, except over at Gretchen's. Gotta have the sniffles, sneezes and coughs just a little longer.....long enough to create an infestation of that little bug in that social workers home! Then well wishes coming your way as well. She is darn lucky that you are easy going, I have been testy lately and I know that it is wrong but If I am going be be in a bad mood and someone is being unreasonable I simply channel that mood and somehow that person sees the error of their way :rolleyes1.

Afternoon Y'all,
I've been taking it easy this morning trying to get better. Got Bob off & went back to bed. Just need to get Alexis when school is out. I'm feeling a bit better after getting some rest. But DD has a big event with her work tonight ( Miss Planet Beach Intnt. Contest )& she would like us to come. I just don't know if I'm up to an event that doesn't start until 8:00! While DD put everything together & she will only introduce the contestants. I just don't know if I can get it together enough to get dressed up & go out that late. Ugh.:sad1:
THANKS EVERYONE!!!!! For the well wishes & b-day wishes for Bob.:grouphug: Bob really enjoyed his dinner & appreciated it extra much cus he knew I felt sick. His comment after dinner was "It's a good life, no, It's a good Wife!" I grilled the ribeyes I had marinated, baked potatoes, broccoli sauteed with garlic & cherry tomatoes. I also made a cognac cream sauce for the steak. Sam's had blackberries yesterday, so I made a sauce to put on top of vanilla ice cream. Sorry I didn't take any pics, I was feeling pretty bad by the time I was finished cooking.
Stephanie, So sorry you've got the flu!!! Have the family take care of you now! You work so hard all the time, it's time for them to coddle you!
Lauren, So glad you're having a great time! Eat & drink some for us! :goodvibes Glad to hear SSR is good too. During our F&W trip, we checked out SSR & OKW, both are very nice. We did decide to change our upcoming trip from OKW to SSR this time.

Good afternoon all!!
P/T conf. went amazing last night....Ross sometimes scares us with how smart he is, lol. He had straight A's and one B+, (that was in science and their whole grade was based on 1 test that he flipped flopped 2 answers on, and didn't double check, lol) The only issue we had is he (ahem) talks to much in class, lol...hmm wonder where he gets that from,;) He was beating himself up about the B+ though so we had to help him on that one a bit. We also got the test results back from the NWEA testing (this is country wide so some of you might have heard of it) and I do have to brag a bit, as the princepal himself was there to give us Ross' results as he was so impressed with his scores, Ross rocked these!! His scores were off the chart. So he kind of forgot about his B+ once he saw these, lol.
Sandy--I had to laugh, as your low is sometimes our summer high in temps, lol! In fact we just had some spitting snow about 20 min. ago!
Gretchen--You are not horrible for thinking it, what a rude person, I'll be thinking right along with you that she catches it as well!! It is all about karma! Let us know how you make out with her.
Aimee-- we love those steaks too. I just made them the other night, mmmm!
Lauren--you my friend, are a hoot!! Nothing wrong with having a bit of whiskey tango in you, it is what makes life fun, I have been known to show a few moments of that myself at times, lol!!
Kathy--I am with you as well, I HATE when my internet is down, take my car, leave my internet!
Glynis--I hope you can get over this darn cold soon too!! I wish that we could get over them as fast as our kids do, lol. Ross is still sniffling and sneezing, but his energy is just fine, lol.
Stephanie-- Happy b-day to your DS!!!!!! I hope that the meds start kicking in fast! Take it easy and don't push, it will just take longer to get back on your feet if you do!
Sheryl--AWWW Bob is such a sweetie! You are an amazing wife to put on such a spread, and feel like you do! I am sure that your daughter will understand that you just can't make it tonight. By 8pm you should be in your jammies sleeping. Get some rest, and keep us posted as to how you are feeling!
Wish I was closer to all who are sick so I could just jump around and help out!
I have no real idea as to wfd, as I only took out pork chops, and never thought of sides, or what to even do with the pork. I might be lazy and just shake and bake them, lol.
Ross just came in, so I will go see how his day went! Hope all of yours is going great too!

Welcome to our little bunch! All of the recipes are on the front page so they are not lost in the chatter, and we do seem to chatter a little :rolleyes1.
Please feel free to jump in and share your menus and any recipes, we love to have them. Did you make the Mom's panel?
ETA: dinner was very good tonight. I went to Stew Leonards Sunday and this is my new favorite place to buy meat. I never buy a bone in pork roast becasue they have not been so good lately. The butchering has looked, well, butchered. This was cut right and tasted like I remembered that it was supposed to taste. I was also able to find "naked" meat for only about 40 cents a pound more than teh "all natural" and that price was lower then the grocery stores around me and at least as low as Costco.
Now I am patiently waiting for room to be created becasue I made Kathy's warm winter cake and it looks yummy.

I hope everyone else who has been not feeling well is starting to improve. It is so early, but it seems like half the kids I see have nasty coughs, drippy noses, etc. Liam told me today that he thinks he is getting a cold because he has a little sore throat. I hope he is wrong!

Hi, Julie!!! Welcome to our foodie family!
I have picky eaters, as well. We made a rule before we even had kids that we would have them eat as many bites as they are old. Since it's been a rule from the beginning, they don't fight me on it. They take their bites, and if they honestly don't like the dinner, they know where the peanut butter and jelly are kept. I have found that my oldest daughter (10 years old), now doesn't fight me at all. Her tastes are maturing, and she willingly tries new things. The other kids aren't there, yet, but they do take their bites before turning up their noses! Case in point, last night I made chicken satay with a peanut dipping sauce. They each tried their bites, and half of them decided they didn't like the sauce, but they loved the marinade on the chicken. So, I call that a win/win!

Dinner tonight is kind of up in the air. It's Jacob's birthday and he requested teriyaki salmon. That's fine with me, however, Leslie woke up this morning with a very high fever, so I don't know if I'll be able to get to the store to pick up the salmon. So, I may have to do the salmon another night, and go with spaghetti instead. Hopefully, Jacob will be understanding. We are going to have birthday cake, and Alan will pick up some ice cream on his way home.

I second you on that our DD9 will try just about anything now without complaining, but our DD 6 NO WAY, our DS 3 will eat anything as long as he doesn't hear his sisters complain. Once he hears them say Yuck, it's all over. So we have a rule keep your comments to yourself, everyone has different taste buds!! This works (most of the time)

I have not planned dinner tonight. We were planning to go to the new Cabelas store but now I am not sure we going to. I'll figure out the meal if we end up staying home.
A Cabela's just opened less than 10 minutes from our house at the beginning of October! Needless to say DH was like a kid at Christmas. He had the big Cabelas catalog out everynight for a week. I'm not sure if he was checking prices to see if they would be the same in the store, or just making a really BIG list! We were there twice opening weekend. It is across the highway from a newly expanded outlet mall, so I guess it's only fair we give the guys equal time! The kids did get a kick out of all the exotic wildlife displays.
WFD tonight....Hmmm...leftover buffet....chili & cornbread, chicken & sausage jambalaya, or Glynis' crockpot Chicken & Dumplings.
Glynis - I did have a question about your Chx & Dumpling recipe. If I recall, it called for 2 cans of refrigerator biscuits. What size can do you use? I doubled the recipe you had posted, but only used 1 can of the smaller size biscuits (I think 10/can).
Hope everyone kicks the crud that seems to be making its way around. Off to wash my hands.....;) :rotfl:

Wendie -- I'm sorry you're sick now too. I think Kathy is right, we are somehow spreading germs here! Get better soon.
Glynis -- Happy Birthday to Jacob!
Anyone else have picky eaters? I've heard it takes 15 times for a child to try something new before you can say they really don't like it.
Julie
Welcome Julie! My two can be picky sometimes, but I have a new trick. I recently discovered that if I serve everything family style so they can choose what to put on their plates and in what quantities, they try a lot more things than if I plate the food for them.
I have leftovers from the pot roast the other night that I am considering turning into a shepherd's pie...I really can't explain why I feel like doing this because shepherd's pie reminds me of my grade school cafeteria. The menu may change.

Morning all--
I know that we have raised Ross to be a kind and sharing child, BUT he did not have to go so far as to share his cold with me,lol...yep I woke up with it this morning...blah! I am heading back to bed now that he is off to school.
Hope you get to feeling better. Hailey shared hers with me. I'm just back from the doctor after trying to deny for the past three days that I was getting sick (you know, it isn't real unless you acknowledge it). Anyway, I have bronchitis and have to pick up my prescription in an hour or so.
No, I did not make it all the way to the panel. I was booted out after the second round. We did have 6 DISers make it though. The entire things was a blast and I would do it again. My family really thinks I'm a Disney nerd now!
Aren't we all Disney nerds here?
I'm starting to think this thread is spreading germs!:scared1:
:lmao: :lmao:
Dinner tonight is kind of up in the air. It's Jacob's birthday and he requested teriyaki salmon. That's fine with me, however, Leslie woke up this morning with a very high fever, so I don't know if I'll be able to get to the store to pick up the salmon. So, I may have to do the salmon another night, and go with spaghetti instead. Hopefully, Jacob will be understanding. We are going to have birthday cake, and Alan will pick up some ice cream on his way home.
Happy Birthday to Jacob! I'm sure he will be understanding about the salmon. I hope since you didn't mention feeling poorly that you are better.

We don't have a Cabela's near us. Patrick (DS) isn't really a shopper, but I would probably have to have a crowbar and some TNT to get him out of there. The last catalog he received was dog-eared from hours upon hours of wishful longing.
I have leftovers from the pot roast the other night that I am considering turning into a shepherd's pie...I really can't explain why I feel like doing this because shepherd's pie reminds me of my grade school cafeteria.

Maybe you're just having childhood flashbacks. ;)
I have no idea what we are doing for dinner tonight. The meatballs last night were good, but I cooked them too long and I didn't care for the sauce. Next time, less time in the oven and a different gravy.
Tonight was supposed to be a peanut chicken with fettucine. We'll see if I'm up to it or if I can convince Kenny I'm just too weak to cook. ;)
The social worker visit went well yesterday. She was nice once she got here and actually had some autism knowledge which is a welcome change from most of the state employees I've had to deal with. She asked intelligent questions and was complimentary of Hailey's therapy programs. She was surprised that an autistic child with DD's current functioning level could be so social and fit into a family unit. She said most of the children she sees at that level are tearing the families apart because their behaviors are so difficult to manage. I told her that DD had been receiving therapy for almost 8 years. At the end of the meeting she said that it was a shame that all the autistic children couldn't receive similar therapy.
Have a great day everyone.

Welcome Julie! :cool1:
Tonight we are going out for mexican with a bunch of friends to celebrate someone's birthday. I keep teetering back and forth on whether to go but it's really important to DH that I go... I've got myself so stressed about Sun that my Crohns is starting to flare =( We are doubling the steroids and my immune suppressant to hold it at bay until after the weekend. I see the doc Tues so we'll see what else I need to do. So FRUSTRATING!!!! We are going to split something as I can't eat much right now. DH thinks that hanging out with friends will get my mind off it for awhile, though it also means missing Ugly Betty and Greys
I was OOT in a meeting most of the day but opted to come home instead of into the office when I finished. I need a break to rest a little at home - of course my cell rang every 20 min anyways  So many things to get done before Sun.

Gretchen, Really sorry to hear you've got it now too. :sad1: Glad that the social worker's visit went well after all.
Stephanie, Strep is bad, but I'd say it's better than the flu. The meds usually work for it. Hope they work for you really quickly!

Well, I did end up getting salmon! I just can't disappoint Jacob! He's my little sweetie, and I know the days of his allowing me to cuddle him are quicky coming to an end. So, it's marinating in the teriyaki sauce, and I'll broil it in about a half an hour. The rice is cooking, and the broccoli is ready to steam. We've got a chocolate cake and chocolate/peanut butter ice cream. The kid is going to be in hog heaven!
I am feeling a lot better today. I still have a cough, but it's not too bad! Alan has the bad cold, now, but he says that he feels better than yesterday.

Julie -- That's funny about the Little House on the Prairie style. My kids call it a "Help Yourself Dinner." Caili would like it even better if I called it Little House dinner. She loves those books.
Gretchen -- If you had eaten in my grade school cafeteria, you would understand the aversion to shepherd's pie.
However, I have to say that my version tonight was really tasty, satisfying, and super easy. I just shredded the leftover potroast, poured the leftover gravy on top, put a layer of vegetables in the middle (okay, tonight it was just frozen corn, but a layer of vegetables sounds much better) and topped with the leftover mashed potatoes. I usually have no idea what to do with leftover pot roast, but I would definitely make this again.

Glynis- good to know that you are better today, and that Jacob was happy with his birthday meal. You are right, once boys reach "that" age their cuddling is over. I think I scarred Daniel for life with my attempted guilt when he stopped wanting to keep me company in the kitchen and decorating for Holidays. I am still lost. Not really but I was awful for a few years whn they all went off on their own :sad1:

Aimee I'm sure you will do well on Sunday. I know you are well prepared and you have lots of friends pulling for you. I'll say another prayer for you Sunday morning.

Janice Sorry to see you have joined the ranks of the ill and infirm on this thread. It seems we are dropping like flies. :rotfl: Seriously, I hope you are feeling better.
Nancy How did Kady's sleep over go? Did she stay the whole night? That is such a hard thing for some children. Patrick had a friend this summer stay over for the night (the boy was 11). Because we don't go to bed until we are sure the children are asleep, especially when they have company, Kenny and I were in the den when just before midnight the boy came into the den. When I asked him if something was wrong, he said exactly this - "When I spend the night somewhere for the first time, I don't stay the whole night. I go home. Then the next time I spend the night I stay the whole night." :rotfl: It was all I could do to keep a straight face, and Kenny sat there on the sofa with a bewildered look on his face. He really had no idea what the child was saying and I had to ask him to please take the child home while I called his mother to let her know they were on the way. True to his word, however, the boy stayed the entire night on his next visit.
Stephanie Glad to hear you are feeling better. The pictures of your son are just precious. It looks like he had a great birthday.
Laura Your shepherd's pie sounds good, notwithstanding any potential cafeteria flashbacks. ;) I think it is sweet that Caili loves the Little House books. Those were my favorites through about 3rd - 4th grade. I had several and I read them over and over. I still have one that was a gift from my third grade teacher. It was actually one the school library was going to throw away because the cover was frayed and it was coming apart from the binding. She inscribed it with "Treat this book like the dear old friend that it is." Funny what you remember.
I've got some errands to run, hoping the proofs for Kyle's "casual" senior pics are ready. It's going to be very hard to choose, there's over 60 pics.

Wendie Another busy weekend for you I see. Take care of yourself. Good luck to Ross with the skirmish.
I'm feeling a little better this afternoon. A couple more days of Zithromax and I should be all well. That is the plan anyway.

I think I'm having a bad day. I went to get some hot water for some tea and got distracted and forgot to add the tea bag. Needless to say hot water is not tastey. Now I did add the tea bag only to have it fall off the string. I think I may jsut call it a day and go home now.:sad2:
I think we are going to have chili tonight I plan on spicing this cold out of me.;)
