We booked out cruise about a week and a 1/2 ago. I have been checking the boards almost every day to see if a thread has been started yet on "cruise meets" for Oct. 13-20, 2007. Needless to say...Here I am, starting one myself. :teeth:

This will be our 3rd cruise altogether & all three have been on the Magic. This will be our 2nd Eastern cruise.

It will be me, my DH, & our DS 12 (2 weeks before his 13th b-day), our DD 10, & our DS 6. My best friend & her family also booked for this cruise, but just changed their mind this last Monday. :sad2: Her DH couldn't handle the price, BUT I am still working on them. :goodvibes .

We will be in 2 connecting SPR"S. :thumbsup2 :sunny:

Hi Sue- I never did get a snail mail confirmation. Did you guy's make your ressie with DCL or a travel agent? We made our's w/ DU. Well, at least we are on the first page again. :) Maybe someone will see "us" and join the group??? :confused3 :teeth:

We booked our cruise today through DU.
Its nice to meet other Eastern cruisers.
I am Bev, hubby Jeff, daughters Kate will be 17 and Anna will be 9 at time of sailing. Anyone have their stateroom numbers? We have room 8036.
We sailed the Premier Big Red Boat 7 day/land sea WDW pirate: package in 1996, then we did a week at WDW in 1998. The family is excited and the countdown has begun. :cool1:

Hi Bev & family! :wave2: So far it's just been sue & myself. I guess it's only been a few weeks since we have been able to book. I just get a little excited. :teeth: We all (me, DH & our DS, DD, & DS) went in October 2004 & were in room 8050, then last October of 2005 just my DH & I went & we were in SPR 5020. :cloud9: This time we are all going again & we too are very, very excited. :Pinkbounc Well, some more than other's... :teeth:

We will be in connecting SPR"S 5522 & 5524.

Your DD Anna & my DD Haleigh are close in age. Haleigh will be 10 at the time we cruise. :sunny:

Sue and Jen its nice to meet you. We haven't been able to get back to anysort of Disney vacation since 98" so I am excited myself! Whats something either of you would avoid or recommend on a DCL vacation? This cruise is a special party: vacation for our 25th wedding anniversary.....

Hello Sue,
We had a good weekend, how was yours? We purchased two books. Birnbaums Disney Cruise Line 2006 and Birnbaums Disney World. We are looking over shore excursions to see what might be good for us. Do you have a favorite or else one you took that you wouldn't take again? Have either you or Jen ever used these books?

Bev - I use Birnbaum for WDW trips. For cruises I use cruise critic web site and then web sites from there. I have been several DCL shore ex and enjoyed everyone of them.

HI Bev & Sue! Hi hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. Our's had been busy, but nice. It's absolutely gorgeous outside. Almost 50 degrees! I can almost start taking out the shorts. :teeth:

Bev, I haven't used Birnbaums, but I have Passporter's and I too have used cruise critic which is very helpful. We have used Disney's shore excursions & have gone on our own. We have had a wonderful time everytime.

Well, gotta run, the outdoors are beckoning me... :sunny:

On our previous cruise we did not stop at St. Maarten. I can relay what I read in Birnbaums: If you want your 6 year old to snorkel they recommend "Pine Island Snorkel tour". Its a shopping (French side of island) and snorkeling tour for ages 5 and older. The other tours that include snorkeling are for 10 years and older.
Birnbaum says the snorkeling is great; the shopping spectacular. (3.5 hours) $35 for adults, $30 for 5-9 yrs. There were 3 other shore excursions announced at press time that they did not have time to rate.

Thanks Bev, I think we might snorkel in St Marten and maybe do Sapphire(sp?) Beach in St Thomas. We did the opposite last October when it was just my DH & myself. Orient Beach was beautiful & part of me would go again, even with the kids. The only think is the partial to full nudity. You don't see much of it, but you do see it. Part of me doesn't mind the kids seeing it, it's part of the European culture, there's not a lot of it & the kids will be so busy having a great time on the beach. But my oldest will be almost 13, part of that awkward stage & I want to be sensitive to that.

Also, we snorkeled in St Thomas and it was my first time, but not my hubby's. I'm hooked though, I loved it!!! I definetly want to snorkel again so I guess it's deciding whick Island. St John's is supposed to be one of the best. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions... :confused3 :teeth:

~Take care & have a great day! :sunny:

We started snorkeling at St Joseph State Park in Florida on Cape San Blas several years ago. Its one of the safest protected snorkeling bays in America....... gorgeous. Snorkel on one side of the penninsula, cross over a large sand dune on the board walk and boogie board on the other, or fish.
I too am a snorkel addict. We purchased good snorkels to take with ( we vacation there every other year) so we don't have to rent them, I understand we can use a complimentary snorkel vest at Castaway Cay so I figure it might be worth taking them along.

Morning Bev and Jen - Sadly I don't snorkle, I am afraid of the creatures in the sea and if I don't see them all the better! Have been to Sapphire Beach and it is beautiful. Lazy me also enjoys Magens Bay on St Thomas. We will have a first time cruiser with us so I am not sure what she will want to see.

Goodmorning Bev & sue, Even though I definently want to snorkel I definetly want to do the beach too. There is nothing like a beautiful beach, sun, sand, something refreshing to drink, :drinking1 relaxation & a really good book! :sunny:

Bev- St Joseph's State Park in Florida sounds wonderful! I'm just a beginner "snorkeler" but I would definetly like to do it more often. I would bring your snorkeling stuff. Me, the obsessive planner forgot last time & I didn't think of it for the first time. We are bringing our stuff this time around. All we have is masks & the snorkel, but that's good enough for Castaway Cay.

~Have a good day! :)

While reading threads on the boards at DIS I saw that many folks get a t-shirt or make door signs (magnetic) for their stateroom. Do either of you participate in these events, what are your thoughts? Do you participate in dressing for pirate night? Also, what night is pirate night pirate: ? I have so many questions. :hyper:

jenmack
04-01-2006, 11:28 AM
Hi Bev- Okay, the first time we cruised we had t-shirts made for us thru Disney. Their main website for shopping, I think it's Disney Direct. Anyway, we had t-shirts made for all five of us. We did DCL, and WDW prior to our cruise it was our "big" vacation. Also, we made door magnets. We used them for our last cruise when it was just myself & Dh too & we will make new ones for this cruise. The kid's love it & it makes it a lot easier for them to find our stateroom. You can buy magnetic paper @ Walmart or online. Usually it come's 10 sheets to a pack. It's expensive so what I did is plan what I wanted on each sheet of paper, printed it out on regular paper 1st to make sure that it printed out to my liking & than I used the magnetic paper. The paper is very thin, but a little thicker than regular printer paper, but printed out fine in our printer.

What I used...Disney clipart that I had downloaded off the web & a free download of Disney script. Our entire door was covered.

We still have out magnets (most of them) on our fridge. :)

For pirate night? I just brought along eye patches for all of us & clip on gold hoop earing's for us. At dinner Disney provide us with re bandanas. So, dressing up is kind of what you want to bring along & personel preference. Do people dress up? Yes, and some go all out, but the majority do not. There is more NOT dressed up than there are those that do. Also, "Pirates of the Carribean Night" is on Tuesday, the day we go to St Marten and the night before we go to St Thomas and have to get up early for immigration.

Sorry so long, I sometimes get carried away. :hourglass pirate: :surfweb:

For our door I have felt letters with magnet backing with our names. Nothing else, just lazy (as I mentioned b4)! For pirate night I have a striped shirt I wear with white pants, but I sure do enjoy looking at others.

What should/can I expect from immigration?

jenmack
04-02-2006, 05:48 PM
Sue, the felt letters sound nice. You know, I was lazy last time & basically just took off our fridge some of the magnets from our first cruise & thru them in my carry-on & I was set. :teeth: But, then it was just DH & me so we really didn't care too much. This time we(I mean, "I") will do new magnets. It's basically for the kids, a little for me, & my DH, well, he probably needs the magnets the most... (You know? Getting lost, getting everything backwards & turned around, and he's a Navy man! He should know a ship like the back of his hand.) :goodvibes

I like lookiing at everyone else too. :) Last time I wore my brown baha skirt & matching top w/ big hoop earing's. I was kind of going for the pirate wench look. pirate: :teeth:

Bev, beside's getting up early I thought immigration was pretty painless. We meet in the Walt Disney Theater where the show's are held @ 6:30am. Some people met earlier because they had early excursions & are's wasn't till 11am. We basically rolled out of bed, brushd our teeth, washed face, did something with hair so we weren't too scary looking & went down in out pj's. And trust me, we weren't the only one's. Than they direct us in the theater & we sit down & wait for our row to go. It was probably 20 min's altogether. Also, you will need your passport's, including kids & I think your KTTW card's.

anyway, I hope you all had a nice weekend. It's rainy & gloomy hear in good ol' Minnesota. I better run, someone's paging the "mama." :wave2:

Hi Everyone! :sunny:

I just found this thread. My family is also booked on the 10/13 Eastern. It's myself, my DH and our 3 kids - DD12, DD10 and DS7. They have no idea that we've booked another Disney cruise! They had a great time on our 11/05 Western and keep talking about going again! :cloud9:

My BIL & SIL are also cruising with us, and also my girlfriend and her family. We're all on Deck 7.

We snorkled on our last cruise. The girls loved it, but my son wasn't thrilled. Hopefully, he'll like it next time since he'll be 2 years older. My husband and I have been to St. Maarten & St. Thomas but without the kids. I would love to hear suggestions about the best beaches or other things to do for families.

We didn't make a door sign last time. We just hung a white board on the door so we could leave notes and find each other if we were separated. The kids also loved leaving messages on it each day for passers-by to read. For pirate night, I brough along eye patches for all of us and bought the kids the Goofy pirate hats on the ship. We also used the bandanas they give you at dinner. It was a fun night even though the younger 2 couldn't stay awake late enough to see the fireworks! They were exhaused every night. :)

Nice to "meet " you all!

Beth :sunny:

Hi Beth! Welcome! :wave2: We too are in the same boat as you :boat: (pun intended). :teeth: Where we have been to St Thomas & St Martin, but the kids have not. So we too are trying to find things to do for families. One of the things that me & my hubby did in St Marten was the Doubloon Sail & snorkel. It was a lot of fun & kid friendly. Part of me want's to do it again. I think my kid's would really like it, but the only turn-off was the "sail's" pitch at the end. They really guilt you into buying a t-shirt & then they literally ask you for a tip. I(we) planned on tipping anyway, but I guess I didn't like the fact that they asked for it & that they actually recommended what it should be. Oh well, :confused3 the rest of it was fun & it's not entirely ruled out for us. pirate:

I hope everyone else is doing good. It's sunny & 63 degrees & I even opened a window for some fresh air. :sunny: It's spring break for the kiddies & I am still recuperating from my son's sleepover last night. He had 2 friends over at the same time. Why is it that you get a couple "young gentlemen" together and if they are not catatonic from video games, they are wrestling & rolling around on the floor, throwing balls in the house, or burping & making jokes about flatulance??? All I have to say is..."Gotta luv them!" That's my mantra for my boy's (including my hubby). :teeth: Anyway, I'm keeping pretty busy & on top of it all I had to take my DD to urgent Care last night. She was complaing about a sore throat during the day & I finally took a look at it & sure enough...She has strep throat. Here's the funny part (or at least I find it funny, not my DH). The Dr. told us as we were leaving that my DD would be contagious up to 24hour's after starting antibiotics & after that we should get her a new toothbrush. So we (my DD & myself) are walking to the car & she say's " I guess that means we will have to get Daddy a new toothbrush too." Evidentally my DD's electric brush ran out of batteries a couple day's ago & instead of mentioning it to us she just used Daddy's. :teeth: Now what was my mantra again? "Gotta luv them." It include's DD's too. Okay, I like to talk!

Everyone take care! :)

Nice to meet you Beth. I have been busy , we had a tornado here Sunday that knocked the electricity off till today so I have been cleaning out the deep freezer and the refrigerator/freezers........ It could have been worse, fortunately no one was hurt. I remember when my daughter was 6-7 she hated snorkels, this year (8) she has decided that they are about the coolest thing going and uses her snorkel in the bath tub. She will be 9 in June.

Hi Bevtoy!

I heard about those tornadoes. Thank goodness everyone is OK. :thumbsup2

Your daughter is the same age as mine. She turned 9 in January. She loved snorkeling, and the stingrays in Grand Cayman too, but they really freaked my 10 year old out! She ended up waiting on the boat for the rest of us. If there's something like that on this trip, I'd love to do it again!

Sue, my DH is still safe but my 5 year old has it now. So like Beth I have 2 down & hopefully my 3rd will be okay. :wizard:

Beth, my DD turned 9 on Dec 30th so now we have 3 girls the same age. Will your DS be 7 at the time we sail? My little guy will be 6, but almost 7.
Also, they have stingray's on Castaway Cay, and it's pretty cool, but I have heard that Grand Cayman is better.

We are driving to Florida from Illinois a day early and considering staying at the Cocoa Beach Comfort Inn and Suites, they have free parking while you cruise and complimentary shuttle service back and forth! That almost pays for the hotel room and gives us a day to unwind (It cost around 12 dollars per day to park a car at Port Canaveral). Are you flying or driving to port?

One more link... this is a search engine for Cruisers to find other cruisers, but I don't think too many folks register there. Its off the DIS board, I am the only cruiser registered there for this trip but I left a URL there for fiolks to CCP and follow in their web browser. You can of course use your DIS name and password to register if you want. You can also find others staying at WDW.

Hello all...

We just completed our reservation for this sailing - and are SOOOO excited :woohoo:

Guess I should start with introductions;
Kevin & Nancy (mid-40's) with 3 DD's; Karin (13), Kelsey (10) & Kristen (7). This will be our 5th Disney Cruise and second sailing the Eastern Carribean.

Jen...we had the pleasure in sailing together...looking forward in seeing you again.

We booked with another family of 3 children with simular ages - and both of their grandmoms. We are unsure, but hopeful that another family will join us. It's very possible our group will have 21 people - time will tell.

545 day before our sailing - please...please help me get through this long awaited return to the Disney Magic.

Well...that's it for now...I've put off work - long enough.

Nice meeting you all....take good care....Happy Easter.

Hi kevin! Glad to "see" you. :wave2: So, no med cruise for you? I thought about it...for a second.
Well...I though about going...but the price of flights and cruise ment I would not be able to take my bride and DD's. I think I made the right decision - yea...my key still turns the lock on the front door....I did good.

I turned 35 on Friday
I won't sing - you all are spared that I make my side money on the other end of the microphone...but , HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU....com'on everybody...join in song. :bday:

Happy Birthday to you - Happy birthday to you...Happy birthday dear Jen...Happy birthday to you!!!

Today, I returned to my main job after four days off. Well, most co-workers think I took four days off...I really did quite a bit of work. I do power point and sound for a large church in downtown Phoenix. I had four services to work along with family events - so, I really did not have 'much time off'. Walking to my desk...I was surrounded by co-workers sharing all the 'events I missed' - as well as - what my priorities should be (before I reach my desk and have a sip of coffee). Well...I get to my desk...pretty dejected. It's then and there I find my smile...a photo of my 'bride and DD's' at Coki beach...plus the miniture Wonder/Magic ship that sits on my CRT. Pretty soon...co-workers see the 'glazed look' in my eyes and 'child-like' look on my face and start to ask - "what's up"? I inform them that we booked another Disney cruise. At this point, we should hear some cheers of excitement for 'the smith family'....but - instead...I hear this round of 'groans' from all who heard 'EVERYTHING' about our past cruises...appears they are not ready for me to start taking about another. I work with some silly people...they just don't get it - maybe some day they will.

Hope you all had a great Easter...take good care...Kevin

jenmack

Kevin, I hear you on the "glazed look" thing except since my job is at home I just "torture" DH, family, & friends. :teeth: Oh 7 thanks for the Happy Birthday. :goodvibes

In regards to church, I'm in the choir and we sang for all services so I was at church on Sunday from 7:30am-12:30pm, but that's ok. It's worth it! :)

Well, since you & your family have already done the Eastern Carib. If I have any questions I can ask you. Last time it was just my DH & myslef, but this time with our 3 munchkins along it will be a completely different experience.

What did you guy's do in St Marten?

d'Isigny

What did you guy's do in St Marten?

Saint Maarten/St Martin....we nicknamed it....MARTY's ISLAND!!!

We hooked up with another family (paul/mollie and the girls) and booked a van for the day. If I remember it was about $200 plus tip – well worth EVERY penny.
Our driver took us to the butterfly farm...
to the absolutely gorgeous Orient Beach...
then, we were dropped off at Marigot (shopping at the mall and some outside vendors)...
then went back to the ship for lunch and to change into swim suits...
After lunch...the driver took us to Great Bay for some beach time...
On our way back to the ship...we did some shopping.

Our driver was GREAT!!!! Always had the van running with A/C on and ready to go. When we were shopping, he would drop us off and go further down the road to park. When he saw us coming...he would take our packages and put them in the van before driving further down.

Weather pending, I think we will do this again. Will pass on the butterfly farm (been there—done that...plus it’s a little pricey) and Marigot (people were ‘just plain snotty’ and no real bargains). Prob only request a half day at Orient Beach...then drop us off at the shopping area. It’s not that far to walk back to the ship – we’ll prob need the exercise anyway...Chocolate Soufflé at Palo – jumbo shrimp – tropical adult beverages with paper umbrellas – eggs benedict at Tritons – Oh....I could go – on_n_on!!!

We went & bought some Guavaberry rum. Mmmmmm! :teeth: We walked back from Phillipsburg, it's not far from the ship at all. I think this time around we will go on our own, maybe. :)

I think from reading different opinions I think we will go to Orient again. I was just a little hesitant because of the kids. But it's culture & they will be having too great of a time to care what's around them. I take it that Marigot is on the French side? I kind of want to go, We'll see...

I saw your post on the thread about SPR's. Sorry, I have your two rooms. (5522 & 5524) :goodvibes

Well...I though about going...but the price of flights and cruise ment I would not be able to take my bride and DD's. I think I made the right decision - yea...my key still turns the lock on the front door....I did good.

Happy Belated Birthday Jen ....sorry I didnt catch that earlier.

We are well, we went to the Post Office and applied for passports yesterday, other than the fees it was relatively painless. Last time we cruised the Bahamas passports were not necessary, it seems to me that we shouldn't have to buy passports with fees when some borders of America go unchecked.
I hope it somehow makes cruising safer, the employees told me that folks in arrears for child support, folks with DUI/DWI tickets among a few other violations will be turned down....... going to Canada any violent charge will get you denied entry including domestic violence....... so they said.

How much are passports? Does the cost vary depending where you go? Do you ever have to get new ones or renew for adults or kids, or are they good a lifetime? As you can see, I have no idea about them (other than I know we will need them next year)!

http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html
This link is to a passport information site that tells you how to apply and has the online form to fill out and print, you need that.
This link is to a search engine to find a convienent place in your area to apply:
http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/

You need two pictures per person when you apply. Walmart charged us 10 dollars a person( for a total of 40 dollars) the post office wants 15 dollars a person.
You need embossed original birth certificate for each person that will be returned to you after 6 weeks with your passport acceptance or denial.
Adults need picture I.D. like a drivers license.
The post office charged us 120.00 for filing the paperwork
the government charged us 238.00. SO all together we paid approximately
$398.00 for 4 people to apply for passports.
If you are divorced you need some sort of signed permission slip from the other parents to alllow you to take minor children with you.

Also, to add to Bev's comments on passporters. I have heard that 75 day's out from sail date they, meaning Disney wants you passport number. So in other words you will need to have it in your hand that many day's before sail date. :)

Jen I am extremely organized, my family rolls their eyes at me:confused3, LOL but I just love being organized, makes life go so much more smoothly. I think passports are good for around 10 to 12 years (unsure) but pictures for children must be renewed very 2 years ( I think).
I am running a program with packing tips and another with suggested cruise tips we found that show promise. Anyone wants to see them I haven't finished proofing them but will send a rough draft to anyone who is interested. I need to go through and elimintae duplicates.

Well, as of right now our oldest will not be going due to the first semester of college (DSS, will be 18 then) and where he will actually be is up in the air. :teacher: But that may change!

However, I will say that he just went with us on our first DCL cruise last fall (age 16) and ABSOLUTELY loved it. He met so many kids and we barely ever saw them, he was off having LOTS of fun. We weren't sure since it was during end of Sept and we didn't know how many older kids would be sailing. His main concern was missing his soccer games and not school when we were on the ship.

It's still quite early, I'm sure you will meet some teens out there.

Hey everyone! Just booked for this cruise and am VERY excited to be going. We'll be on deck 7 midship on the port side - and it's going to be a loooong year and a half! Anyhow...

My name is Mike and I'll be cruising with my wife (married 3 years, will be 4 years before the cruise) and 2 year-old daughter (she'll actually turn two a couple of days after we get back). We're meeting the wife's sister and her husband (one of my best friends), and they have three daughters of their own. Also working on a buddy and his wife who have a daughter 3 weeks older than mine, so hopefully they'll be joining us as well.

It will be our first cruise ever, and from what I've read we picked a good one to start with. Hopefully our DD will be old enough to enjoy the cruise, even if she probably won't remember it.

Anyhow, very nice to meet you all! :wave2:

I'm so sorry for your loss!

We're trying not to get so excited for the cruise, especially with it still so far away, but I am so giddy to finally take a cruise and head to the Caribbean. It's something I've always wanted to do.

We went last week to apply for our passports, and it was such a mess. We filled out and printed the applications using the online form and went to a local drug store to get our pictures taken.

The next morning we went to the post office to file our applications. My wife (Julie) had to leave for work as soon as we were done, and I had DD (Emily) for the day. We got to the post office and stood in a short line, and made it to the window fairly quickly. I knew nothing involving the Federal government could go so smoothly, so I wasn't surprised when the nice lady behind the counter told Julie her birth certificate wasn't a certified copy - she had two copies and left the certified copy at home!

I still had my own and DD's applications, so Julie left the post office (which is fairly close to home) to get the right birth certificate. I stayed with DD and got our pictures out to process our applications in the meantime. The woman looked at the passport pictures and said she thought they were too big. It turns out the drug store's computer program had the wrong settings for passport photos and the program needed to be reinstalled! So I finished with the application portion of the process, Julie showed up with the right birth certificate, and we finished the applications. Julie went to work and I took Emily back to the drug store to have our photos resized. Please keep in mind that Emily is teething, and wasn't having the best day.

We got to the drug store and I waited with a fussy baby for 30-45 minutes while the pictures were resized. She was getting fussy because her mouth hurt, and was getting VERY heavy as she just wanted Daddy to hold her. We got the resized pictures, went back to the post office and waited in line again. We got to the counter and gave the nice woman our newly sized photos. She said Julie and mine looked great - but they would not take Emily's because I was holding her in front of the background for the picture, and my hands were visible in the picture (she's 7 mos old - how can she pose on her own?!). I thought "okay lady, you could have told me that the first time!!"

I took my patient baby back to the drug store to have a new photo taken. We put her on a box on top of a stool so she was in front of the background, and I held her around the waist while he took the new photo. Bless her little heart, she was SO good for the picture! We then waited 20 minutes for the new picture before they told me they had a digital photo pack processing that could not be interrupted, and it would be 15-20 more minutes.

I decided to get lunch while we waited, so DD and I went to the new sub shop that opened in town. They were only open about a week, so the employees are still trying to figure everything out. We waited in a LONG line, and they burnt my sub when they sent it through the toasting thingy! I waited for my new sub, and when it was finally finished we went back to the drug store. This was ~ 30 minutes later.

We got there and waited 5 more minutes for the picture to come up. They didn't charge me for the resizes or the reshoot, and let me keep the old photos of DD, so I thanked them and went back to the post office.

We didn't have to wait this time, and the picture was great. Our escapade was finally over - what a morning!

So anyhow, assuming the processing goes okay, at least this part of the planning is over. We're excited to get our first passports ever!

Hope everyone else's process has been a bit smoother. :thumbsup2

People in show business say that if dress rehearsal goes badly the play will be a success.............. myabe its the same with cruising and passports? We received a letter and had to resubmit a check for more money , the post office told us the wrong amount, we still got ours in (I think) about 4 weeks.
Here is a website where you can check on the progress of your application, they will tell you if theres a delay and will send that to you in writing, telling you what to do to correct any mistakes.:

We have a box that we purchase things toward the cruise all year and stow away. One of the items is our own snorkels, I just shudder when I think of using rented snorkels. Walmart had a cute pirate packedge in the toy section for $4 that has a hand hook, eye patch, sword plus dagger with sheath, 3 gold coins, earring, eye patch and a telescope!
Do yopu have a box and whats in it so far? Oh yes, I bought a underwater camera case (water proof) and a water proof belly bag for the beaches to keep our KTTW cards and valuables in while we swim.

Hi everyone! Me again. :wave2: I had forgotten to check this board till DH was talking about the cruise last night. Next October is just WAY too long to go without seeing the mouse, so we're planning a Feb. 2007 trip with the kids.

Anywho, I was just checking in!!

Hello everyone!

Wow, it seems like it's been FOREVER since I've posted on the DIS, but what better way to re-introduce myself than to join this thread!

Booked through DU, actually was suppose to go this October but can't, so I moved the ressie to this one.

Right now, it's me(29) and a couple girlfriends, a nice girls trip. :cheer2: I can't believe how far away it is, but hopefully I'll get a little Disney fix in between now and then.

Haven't read back through the whole thread yet, so hopefully I haven't missed much. I still have to get my passport, DU just sent me an email letting me know. Guess I have time...lol :hourglass

Hi all! We just booked our first cruise ever today! I am so excited that I can hardly stand it!!! I look forward to getting to know you over the next 15 mos and hope to meet up in person on the cruise!

A little background: My name is Tracy and I live in MA. I will be going to celebrate my 10 year anniversary with dh Jeff and our dd Alex who will be 8, almost 9 when we cruise. We are Disney lovers, with 6 WDW trips under our belts. I was a bit apprehensive about skipping WDW, but was convinced by DIS board members to take the cruise only.

For the Pirates fans in this thread...

Apparently the Flying Dutchman is at Castaway Cay and you can take a boat out to view it. I called Disney and asked a rep how long it would be there - she said they didn't have a date, but consensus around their office was unless they need it to make another movie sometime soon they expected it would stay there. She also speculated that it would still be there for our cruise.

I hope it's still there!

Hi everyone! Thanks for the warm welcome. I can't believe we have so long to wait for this cruise, but I'm sure we'll all find ways of staying busy until then.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and meeting you on the cruise too!

Well, it's a long weekend for me, lots to do at work today, then I'll be heading off to photograph a friends wedding weekend. I'm really looking forward to this gig, she's going completely tropical...luau, hula dancers, tiki bar, very laid back...I'm wearing flip flops! :beach:

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yes, we're leaving the little ones at home for this cruise. Both of our parents are willing to take care of the kids and shuttle them to/from school... so we're taking advantage of that, lol. I figure I'm going to tell the kids that daddy and I are just "testing" out the cruise... to make sure it's something we'd want to take them on someday. Yeah right... my DD isn't going to fall for that, lol!

And TOO COOL about the Flying Dutchman *hopefully* staying till our cruise!! That would be so great!!

Hello Tracy! My DH name is Jeff too. I have cruised before but not DCL, we have been to WDW a couple fo times and decided this would be a great way to celebrate our anniversary. Our kids are DD 10 and DD 17 at time of crusing.

WOW!!! Our thread is growing and picking up speed. I turn away for a few weeks and we are now on page 9 – AWESOME!!!

Looks like this is a ‘Disney Caribbean Anniversary Cruise’. My DB (Disney Bride) and I will celebrate our 22 anniversary on October 19th...hopefully dining at Palo.

Is there a certain place or time where DISers meet traditionally on the cruise?

Jen and I had the pleasure of sailing in October of 2005 – Eastern Caribbean. We participated in a DIS Cruise Thread, affectionately named – “The Molar Express” (An inside joke – appears most were posting about numerous visits to the dentist and the movie “The Polar Express” had just opened). This group was a blast...and...appears ours (oct 07), will be just as much fun. We met 3 times; at the terminal (informally as everybody waited to board) all wearing lime green Mardi Gras beads making it easier to find each other, on our first day at sea (Sunday) on Deck 9 near the adult pool and on our final day at sea (Thursday) – also on Deck 9. There are numerous posts of locaitons - ideas on hosting a DIS meet...I'll be there.

One project I will be working on is a ‘off-DIS site’ web group – probably through Yahoo groups. This does not replace our thread...just another avenue to help each other plan our trips by sharing information. This will be a closed group or pass word protected so we can keep it just between us. Our past group used this to post photos and share files (word – excel – power point...etc). This was a great tool and really helped planning; cruise excursions, touring at the parks, posting your favorite links – etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Signed - :sunny: melting in Phoenix, AZ....Kevin

Hello Everyone!

Oh Dana that sounds like so much fun!! I'm a amateur photographer, and the idea of shooting a wedding scares the crap outta me, lol. Have a great weekend!

Hi Jenny, I had a great time this weekend, it was probably one of the MOST fun and laid back weddings I've ever been to. And the best part was I got to stay and play the whole weekend. Just to give you an idea of how much fun this wedding was, the whole bridal party, the bride, groom and even myself (there was another photographer there as well to catch this moment) all jumped into the pool at the end of the reception with all our clothes on! :rotfl: Good times! :cool1:

Wedding's are definitely the hardest to shoot as a photographer...can be very stressful. But that's why I just do it for friends and family right now. All of my gigs in the last year have been for friends.

Hope everyone elses weekend was just as fun! Oh...and I finally got to see Pirates! Now I'm really psyched to see the Flying Dutchman now at Castaway Cay. pirate:

Hope this finds all well.

On our past cruise, we grew to ~30 families participating on a DIS cruise thread. I’ve got some great memories as we had a blast!!! This group really needed a place to share data that The-DIS does not offer. We were very lucky that Paul (Lloylf – on The-DIS) joined our cruise thread. He has strong computer skills and found a site for us to use. I just completed setting up a site through Yahoo Groups that closely mirror’s Paul’s previous hard work (big thanks to Paul for his assistance). Ours has been created a little differently. I set this up as a ‘closed site’ – i.e., a Moderator needs to ‘invite’ someone to participate. It would be my personal preference in keeping this a ‘closed site’. However, if ‘our group’ prefers, I can change this to an ‘open site’ allowing any/all with an internet connection to view the information we have added. I don’t want to dwell on the ‘horrors in the world’...just want to keep ‘our information’ as secure as we can – rant off.

This is an ‘off-DIS’ web site for us to share information (files – photos – polls – database – links...etc). It’s an amazing organizing tool that offers us free data storage (can’t get much better than that). Of course...they will offer links and banners (I call them Internet commercials) to ‘suggest’ you purchase goods/services from one of their vendors. However, you are under no obligation to review or purchase ANYTHING. I am almost finished and can use a volunteer (anyone...anyone....Bueller...Bueller)? I’d like someone to ‘take a peek’ and request ‘suggestions for improvement’. Also, will prob need someone besides me to become a Moderator. The requirements for a Moderator are ‘low maintenance’ (process an invite to another DIS member allowing them to join us – pretty easy – it’s just like sending an e-mail from the Yahoo site). I’d like a back up in case I am traveling or away from a computer. And – as our group grows....we may need a 3rd/4th to assist. So...that being said...anyone interested???

If participating as a Moderator...is not your ‘cup-o-tea’...I understand. Should you just want an invite to this site....send me an e-mail to both of the below addresses (my work and home e-mail address should pop up in a new e-mail when you click the below link).

Kevin's Home & Work e-mail addresses (kevin.smith@appl.ge.com;d_Isigny@msn.com)
Just offer me the e-mail address you want me to send the Yahoo Groups invite to.

You can always send me a PM, but this may take longer for me to get your request.

Finally....this site is not intended to replace The-DIS Cruise Thread...at all. It’s my hopes we can share information with each other...making our cruise and vacation planning easier.

According to Disney we are on this cruise.....we thought that we had booked the Oct 27th cruise but when we went to re-book on our last cruise they said that we had signed up for this one. It really did not matter to us so we kept this date.

This will be our 8th or 9th Disney cruise. DW and I might take a 4 day next August for our 20th anniversery. We just got off the ship in May, and we go again this October for Halloween. That reminds me that I better get that paid off this month.

It will be me, DW, DS15 and DD12 at time of sailing.

Look forward to meeting everyone!

Kevin, I'll take a peek at the site and I can Mod too, if nobody minds. :) Yahoo groups are great - I set one up for the parents of my DDs Kindergarten class to share info. It's such a help. And... I'm going to vote ahead of time to keep it a closed site. Any info we don't mind sharing with the world we can put here, but we should keep that closed in case we put last names, room numbers, phone numbers, etc on it.

Hope all are enjoying a great evening. Me - I'd be happier if the Diamondbacks were doing better against the Dodgers. Guess I've 'tipped my hat' as a D-baks and baseball fan.

I 'should' be current getting all an invite to the Yahoo Groups web site. Since DIS screen names and e-mail address don't always match, let me know if you've not received your 'invite'.

Bevs_toy and jennfortunato have been added as Moderators - Many thanks for being the first to offer assistance...do appreciate others offering support as well. As time goes on...and our group grows...we may need additional support.

The Yahoo site has some incredable features. Besides sharing; links, photos, files, polls - we can set up databases. Currently, we have 6...and others can be added. Should any want another 'type of database' set up...just let me know.

bevtoy Kevin tht does sound like a wonderful tool. Do we need to officially "name" our group?

Bevtoy - I agree we need to think of a "name" of our group. Not sure if we are still 'too new' to each other to come up with a fitting personality. In time, am sure we can come up with something fitting.

Well...it's been a long day...i may not make the end of this game...so, I'll wish all a good night.

Hi everyone,

We just booked our very first Disney Cruise for Oct. 13th!!!! :woohoo: I am so excited as it's always been one of our dreams to do a Disney Cruise & finally hubby just said to bite the bullet and book it!

It'll be me & dh along with our two small girls- ages (at cruise time) of 5 & 2.5.

I can't believe we have to wait 15 months till we go! I know I'll spend many MANY hours on the DIS reading before embarkation. Plus we have a WDW vacay to look forward to THIS October!

I read some people are already getting their passports... should I too? Or wait until next year with the girls are older & will look more like themselves at time of travel in the picture. I can't believe the price either..especially since I know we'll never use them other than maybe another cruise. And that's a big maybe.....

Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself & say Hi and looking forward to chatting with you all over the next year plus!

Welcome Princess Jackson.. I see we have DD's similar in age! Mine is 4 but will be five when we cruise! We arn't from the UK, but I love visiting the UK- does that count? :)

Kruegs- ( I have no idea how to wrap quotes.. I really need to go to the tech boards and read up!)

Dh works for a small dept in NW Chicago. He's thinking of testing for a bigger department and has started looking. His brother, my brother in law, is also a cop in NW Chicago (although a different department as well). DH will be thrilled to find out he's crusin' with fellow coppers! Seems we have a lot in common. I noticed you have a DD about the age of our youngest. Sarah was born 4/27/2005... and like your wife- I'm a huge scrapoholic!

He's braver than I if he's thinking of testing for Chicago! I've heard that's quite a dangerous job in the Windy City... though it can be dangerous no matter where you are, of course.

DD was born on 10/22/2005, so they're very close! Glad others are bringing the really young kids - we weren't sure if she'd like it just yet. As she gets older, though, I become more posititive she'll have a blast.

I need to get DW on these boards so she can "meet" all of you. Maybe I'll work on that this weekend. :confused3

No fears about little ones not enjoying the cruise, after our first cruise last year (non-Disney) I am convinced that all kids will enjoy! Our youngest DD was only 6 months and had a blast. The pools, the attention, the excursions (what 6 month old can credit to have gotten to swim & try to eat stingrays in Grand Cayman?). It was a blast for her!!!! Even is she'll never remember it, I always will. Her little hand trying to grab the 100 pound gigantic stingray to put in her mouth! :lmao: At any age, there's something fun for kids to do! Well - a HAPPY FRIDAY to all. Hope all have great weekend plans. Appears we have had quite a few posts - AWESOME!!! Something tells me...we are gonna have a great time.

Bevtoy - thank you for your kind words on the Yahoo Groups web site.

Welsome to Princess Jackson...congrats on your booking. Appears you are new to cruising...The DIS is a great community to learn the in/outs of Disney Cruising. Another place you might want to review is a link I posted on our off-DIS web site (Yahoo Groups). The 'Magical Disney Cruise Guide' is almost a 'training manual' for taking a Disney Cruise. It's very well organized and has some incredable detail. I highly recommend printing this out - beware...it's 90+ pages...but well worth it. Send me a pm or message me (preferred) on the below e-mail link and I'll process your invite.

I loved the 'Magical Disney Cruise Guide'. I printed it out a few months ago when I was trying to decide which cruise to take and I'd read several pages each night before I went to bed, lol.

Excited to see you all on board. We signed up about a week ago. This is our first seven night cruise; DW, DS (will be 15 at the time of cruise) and me. To say we're excited is an understatement. Now what to do to pass the time until we board.

DS (will be 15 at the time of cruise)

Minnesota....(MM)....Our son will be 15 at cruise time also. We have had no trouble taking him out of middle school but high school may be different. We are testing the waters this October to see how it goes.

DW and I are off to a wedding this weekend. So everyone have a good one.

You cruised on the Big Red Boat? We did a land sea/Big Red Boat cruise in October of 1988. We only had one daughter back then, and came home with "Disney Souvenir" born 9 months later, we named her Anna. :rotfl2:

Happy Monday to all!

I just wanted to say Thanks to Kevin for putting together a great Yahoo board. I got the chance to look through it this weekend & read some of the links posted. I especially liked the history of Castaway Cay! That was great! And I'm printing the 90 page guide out this morning for future reading!

Thanks for taking the time to put it all together!

Question?
When I go to the Yahoo! group site there is a question in the data base under October 13th cruisers that reads :

DIS-tagY/N(info to follow)

Is that a question as to whether you use the Alien Green Micky heads from Home Depot as a tag to signify you are a DISer? :confused3

Happy Monday to all (ARrrrrrrr another monday),

Nicole...thank you for your kind words. I truly credit Paul (Lloylf - on the Dis) for setting up this tool on our last cruise. Am glad you like it - after only ~1 week....we've got some great 'stuff' already loaded.

The "Magical Disney Cruise Guide" is an awesome resource!!! Other than 'The-DIS', it's prob the best place for someone that is interested in a Disney Cruise to start their research.

Welcome to all the newbies! :wave2: I love to see our group growing so well.

Well, my weekend was quite fun and relaxing, which is a change of events for me. Spent time at the pool, shopping with friends, and enjoyed some wine and good times at a wine party. I've never been to one before but it was quite interesting and fun. I usually stick to the wine festivals or the wineries themselves, but this was fun. And I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with the amount of wine we all drank, I mean tasted. (hiccup) :drinking1

We had one heck of a storm roll through Saturday night that knocked out all the humidity, so it was a gorgeous weekend. Hope everyone else's was good. :sunny:

I also checked out the yahoo site and kudos to all those involved in putting it together past and present...I see this becomming quite a useful tool.

Oh...has anyone seen Devil Wears Prada? Just saw it with some girlfriends and I have to say...loved it! Hilarious! :rotfl:

Hi Bev,

Honestly....I was hoping to 'slide under the radar on this' - just for a little bit...LOL. Oh well...let’s just ‘test the waters’ and see what happens.

Our last sailing, we had a large DIS group – 30+ participating in the thread on a daily/weekly basis – close to 50 if you count the lurkers and those that contributed every now and then. To say we had fun...was an understatement...it was a blast!!! We had some; great sharing of information, persons that linked diner reservations together, a baseball rivalry and some that booked 3rd party excursions together (saving $$). Most importantly – we supported each other and it helped passing the time till we sailed.

Other than a couple of DIS-Meets, we wanted to hold an extra activity – called ‘DIS-Tag’. I am going to offer an explanation that Brenda gave in her post-cruise trip report (posted on our yahoo site – under files) – take it away B...

Lessee...how do I explain tag without really confusing everyone here, including me?

Well, basically we had a list of people who agreed to play tag on the ship and we had two very nice people who helped organize it: Paul, who set up a secure Yahoo database for the cruise, and Kevin who set up the rules and really pulled the game together.

The game starts out with everyone receiving a list of players and a magnet. The idea is to start with the person / cabin listed just below your name on this list - you tag them by leaving the magnet and a little tag gift (we tried to make it easy by suggesting that people leave something indicative of their hometowns / states). Then you have to wait for someone to tag you in the same manner before going on to tag the next person on your list - you keep going until you reach your name.

It was a blast! And people were very creative - Kevin made a vacation / party mix CD for everyone, Suzie left a diabetic coma-inducing bag of sweets to take to the movies, Wayne and his family left a bag o' stuff from England including some keychains and a recipe for yorkshire pudding (Yum!).

Our tag was a grab-bag of stuff that was supposed to play off the name we'd given our cruise thread - The Molar Express. A bunch of us suffered a rash of broken teeth through the year...so I found little toothbrush / teeth eraser sets, and watermelon flavored billy-bob candy teeth and put those in a bag with some other goofy stuff.

If you can get enough people to agree to play and get it organized it adds a whole extra dimension to the week. Jason and I had so much fun with it - we can only hope everyone else did to!

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Oh...has anyone seen Devil Wears Prada? Just saw it with some girlfriends and I have to say...loved it! Hilarious!

I saw it Dana! And I loved it too! I wanted to read the book first, but never got around to it.... too busy researching and planning certain cruises! :) I wonder if the book is the same as the movie or way different?

We've had some nasty storms come though here too the past week! I feel like this whole summer has been just 'rain'! My kids are getting stir crazy being cooped up inside all the time. We have a family reunion in Detroit this weekend and I'm hoping the rain finally stops!

Oh, and I started to read that 90 page guide to crusing posted on the Yahoo site last night with the intention of reading a few pages every night. Let's just say... I finished it! Great resource for us first time Disney Cruisers!

And we got our confirmation in the mail along with a postcard from Mickey. My daughter was thrilled at this. I mean THRILLED to get a postcard from Mickey. This vacation is already working it's magic! We followed the postcard with an hour talk regarding where we would find Ariel in the water around the boat. She's so excited about this vacation. Unfortunetly she's 4 & thinks we are leaving tomorrow! She doesn't understand the concept of time!

Hope everyone has a good day! Time to get back to work!

I haven't seen "Prada" yet - I don't think I'm going to convince DH to see this one with me, lol.

Kevin, that game sounds fun!! I'm signed up, lol.

And Nicole - too cute about your DD. We make a countdown chain for each of our trips (out of construction paper - where you remove 1 chain each day) so the kids have a better idea of when we're going. Well.. our next trip isn't till Feb. and my DS4 keeps asking to make a countdown chain. I counted the days and we'd need to make 198 chains!! They're both determined to make this chain though... so my DD6 cuts the strips of paper and my DS staples them together. The thing is huge - and they're only 1/3 of the way done, lol.

bevtoy
07-25-2006, 10:13 AM
We have a chain and its draped on our fromt windows, maybe I should post a picture. DD found some printable links with Disney figures to use for the last two weeks! I better go sign up for that Dis -tag game, it sounds fun.

Tinker326

Good idea on the chain! We'll start one for our land vacation this year & when that's over make the one for the cruise. All 365 links. ouch! :) THe idea of putting printed characters on the last two weeks is great too! Maybe that'll give us something to do on our drive to Detroit this weekend. Thanks for the idea!

Also I went back in to sign up for that tag too but couldn't figure out how to edit my record that I already created. Jenn could you let me know how you did it? I also noticed we are a few staterooms away from each other!

Hi Nicole...sorry to step on Jenn's toes :cool1: - but, I had our group site open :surfweb: and made the correction.

When you are viewing your record in the database...click on 'EDIT' (far right). this will bring up your record for you to make any adjustments. When you are finished, click on 'SAVE RECORD' (bottom right - blue button). That's it - you're done!!! Hope this helps.

If any want additional databases written....just let me know - I'll post what the group needs.

I am glad to see there is interest in 'DIS-Tag'...this was one of the many highlights of our cruise.

hope all are having a great week........k

Hi Nicole! I didn't read the book either, usually do before watching movies, but didn't get around to this one. I have to say, the movie totally made me want to go shopping afterward and stop eating for like a month! Hehehehe....

Jenny2 - I don't think I would have been able to convince my Ex-Husband go see this movie...it's more of a chick flick! But worth it if you can get a night out with the girls. :cheer2:

The Tag game sounds like fun! I'm totally in, just got to go edit my profile.

YEE HAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: Kevin, I can relate after last weekend with no kids. I know that we do not do it enough. We are pretty sure though that we are booking a 4 day cruise for our 20th next year. We have already "reserved" a grandmother to come here and stay with the kids.

We got up a 3am to make our ressies and it went very smooth. We got what we wanted. I was surprised to read on our thread though that some got up at 6 this morning and were able to still get what they wanted. The only excursion we booked was the Golden Eagle Catamaran in St Maartin. I think in St Thomas we are just going to the Tramway to get some bushwackers at the top

Hope everyone has had a great weekend

Glad it's the weekend.

Bev, you guys live on a lake? Your kids must love that! My folks own a cabin up in northern Wisconsin on a lake & it's my oldest dd's favorite place in the world. She loves jumping off the dock, swimming on the beach, fishing with Grandpa & going on the boats! We are heading up there for the last time this summer tomorrow.

Dana, Have a blast at the Jimmy Buffet concert! Sounds fun.....

Hope everyone else has a great weekend. Seems like summer is coming to a close so quickly with all the back to school stuff going on! I don't know if I'm ready for fall yet!

TGIF to everyone

Both kids and DW started back to school this week.

DS started high school so I am taking him on a boys only fishing trip this weekend while he still has time for his dad. I am sure as the year progresses there will be less and less time to spend with the parents.

Kinda sad to hear everyones summer is coming to a close.....we usually are able to get out on the water until the 1st or 2nd week of October, after that the air temp is still beach weather but the water temp gets a little cold.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Do you (or the lady who made them) create them on the computer & then print them on magnetic paper? Or just laminate & attach magnets?

Typically (having never been on a Disney cruise) do people post a different one for each night? This sounds like something fun to do while passing the long 14 months till cruise time! This & that chain I've yet to start. :)

The lady who did this (my3princes or brooksfabfive) makes the graphics and sent them to me, I have laser compatable magnetic sheets that I am going to print them on, I want one theme for each night of the cruise, and maybe a few little ones with a lime green Micky. I have saved some fun graphics including some pirates ones. I think you could use laminated prints and attach magnets strips to the back.... I was reading here on the board that some are having trouble with people removing their magnets. Thats why the designer put our names on them, hope fully no on will want a magnet that has someone else name on it, and they are priceless to me for the sentimental value.

Here are three more door signs. I am going to be gone until the 21st or so. Cape San Blas FLorida, we are going to try para sailing. See everyone later! Not my creations, I found the lime green Mickey in another thread, and the same lady that created my anniversary door sign also created my girls names. She can create names with your favorite charecters inside them. See you all later!

Very cute!! I can't wait to get started on making some magnets :)

Starting in 4 1/2 hours I'm on vacation!! :cool1: We've got some day trips planned to the zoo and Six Flags, and then we're camping at the beach next weekend. I'm dreaming of a nice, relaxing week... but I'm thinking I'll be rushing around, cleaning the camper, buying snacks, all that stuff, lol.

Oh well... it's still vacation!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Happy Monday! I know...that somehow just never sounds right....

Anyway...hope everyone had a great weekend. The weather here was GORGEOUS...couldn't keep me inside all weekend if you tried. I'm squeezing in as much as I can now before classes start up.

On a side note...someone really needs to shoot me...I always have a tendency to over-extend myself. I promised myself that since I was going back to college this fall I would cut back on some of my other extracurricular activities. :lmao: Yeah...right...like I could do that. I coach a high school competition cheerleading squad :cheer2: and I was going to resign this year, but just couldn't bring myself to do it. So I've got tryouts today and tomorrow to judge and then the season starts. I know I'm crazy... By the time this cruise comes around, I will definitely need the break. I think that's why I love cruising so much...it forces you to totally disconnect...your in the middle of the ocean for gosh sakes...you can't get more disconnected than that! :sunny:

Well...hope everyone has a great day! :wave2:

You ARE crazy Dana! I cheered in high school for football, basketball and comps. And it sucks up alot of your time. I remember our coach saying every year "this is going to be my last year" and yet every year she'd return, lol.

This weekend was wonderful!! We went to the zoo yesterday, and it was almost like fall weather. So nice :)

After several days to recoup from our 31 mile backpacking trip on Isle Royale National Park; thinking again about our first (DW, DS - 15 yrs at cruise time and me) 7 night cruise. Only 13+ short months away. What else can I do to make the time pass by quicker? That doesn't require carrying 40 pounds on my back for 31 miles :charac2: :charac2:

How about starting to make door signs like some others are doing on the board? I've been taking a look on the Dis Creative Signs board to get some ideas of what I can do for my door!

I'm also thinking of making matching shirts for embarkation day- although my hubby may refuse to wear it. He's not into 'matching' disney shirts. Especially homemade ones. Oh well, I got 13 months to work on him!

I always heard that Isle Royale National Park is supposed to be beautiful! I bet those 31 miles of backpacking were breathtaking! I'm looking forward to when my kids are a bit older & we can get back out camping/hiking again.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I think we are going to head to the Air & Water Show in Chicago this weekend & fight those crowds. It's an amazing show & the weather is supposed to be perfect!

Unforturnately I have a tough time drawing stick figures. My wife and son have the talent. I should see if they would be interested in coming up with a design.

I have a brother in-law that has a family run screen printing business and have thought of this; but again same problem as above.

If you like hard work with big rewards Isle Royale is a great place to go. Some of the most beautiful views you'll find anywhere. We had a cow and calf moose eating off the shrubs in the site next to us our first morning. She didn't mind us and we didn't bother her and the young one. When they were done they walked out following a path at the edge of our camp. Boundry Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is another place worth going. I love everything Disney but sometimes you just need to get away from it all.

Well we are home from vacation and I feel refreshed. My oldest daughter and I tried para sailing and it was awsome! 4 miles long and 1200 feet in the air!
I was really surprised at how great it was! We had a wonderful time and no one got a serious sunburn. I caught 3 blue crabs, took a ton of photos of family and nature! I am definately going to try para sailing on the cruise!
I also tested my underwater camera bag and a waterproof belly bag and they passed with flying colors! Whats everyone else been up to?

Bev... parasailing sounds great!! Maybe one of these days I'll try it, lol.

We're home from vacation too! We went camping at the beach for a few days. :sunny: Lots of fun. The kids had a blast playing at the beach, and DH went fishing one day (off the shore). The kids and I spent the whole afternoon catching little crabs in the low tide, lol.

I took tons of pictures, too. Last year while we were at the beach I got up before the sun came up and went to the beach to get some sunrise pictures... when I discovered my camera was broken :furious: I *swore* I was going to get some this year... and I did! I think I took about 40 pictures of the sunrise that morning, lol. Here's one of them...

They demolished our favorite camp site and built gated communities, well at least its not full of view blocking high rise hotels like Panama beach.
Heres a few pics I "captured". I would love to know if anyone else has para sailed and how was your experiance?

Hi gang,

Just checking in...things have been a whirlwind, which seems to be par for the course in my life. :hyper:

Cheerleading is starting off well. We had 40 girls tryout for 25 spots, that was tough...lots of talent and it's so hard to say no to any of them. We're starting practices tomorrow night, but we're not getting choreography until next week. So we'll be working on conditioning and fundamentals. They definitely keep me feeling young! :yay:

Classes start on Monday...a little nervous as it's been a while since I've taken any classes and I'm going into my final years, so it's all classes for my degree...no more requirements. And since I'm going after an Art degree, I've got to take classes in studio fundamentals, drawing, painting, etc...and there's a reason I'm into photography...hahaha :artist: I'm sure I'll love it once I get into it, but I'm a little nervous right now.

I love all the pics ladies...makes me want to play hookie and go to the beach, or at least the pool. Well, enough day dreaming...better get back to work.

Hugs! :grouphug:

Happy Friday to all. :cool1:

My apologies for taking a short break from ‘The Dis’. Between some projects at work, church and DD’s returning to school (insert an ‘amen’ by Nan)…things have been a little crazy at the smith household.

I’ve probably missed 3-4 pages of posts and will review/catch-up this weekend.

I did see some OUTSTANDING photos posted. Thank you for sharing…those are wonderful!!!

We are getting pretty excited as our cruise to Canada out of Seattle is just a few weeks away (9/21). Since starting our family, Nan and I have only been on a ‘no kids’ getaway once before (1 day at WDW and a 4 day DCL cruise). I feel ashamed that in 12+ years we’ve not spent more ‘couple only’ time – I plan on correcting this. And…that work is picking up the tab on this…just makes it even better. So…if anyone has some suggestions or experiences to share about activities in; Seattle, Vancouver BC or Nanaimo on Victoria island…I’d love some help planning our activities.

Ok so if anyone can help me with this it would be nice! How many gifts will a person need if they are playing DISer tag? One for each day, or one for each stateroom playing DISer tag? I found a something a bit fun but don't know how many to get.:confused3

Great question posted about DIS Tag. I’d suggest we limit it to one item/gift per stateroom. The great thing about this…we can alter the rules to fit our needs. Currently, on our off-Dis web site through Yahoo Groups 9 persons have expressed an interest in playing. It’s too early to tell what our numbers will be…but, when we played on our last sailing…30+ people posted and 18 played. I’d make a guess that our number can reach ~20.

If anyone wants an invitation to our Yahoo Groups site…just send me an e-mail on this link. (d_Isigny@msn.com;kevin.smith@appl.ge.com)
Wishing all a great weekend - Kevin

Hope they still have this on the ship 13 months from now. She is all excited about it, so is my DS and me also. Mine is first so I get to play mannequin for a few days.

We may have found another family to go this week. Keeping our fingers crossed they'll join us.

Hope everyone had a great labor day weekend. Mine was entirely too busy and went by way too fast. Pretty much packed with class, cheer practice and a few fun activities. I did squeeze in the John Mayer/Sheryl Crow concert, which was AWESOME! :cool1:

I also need a little more information on Dis tag. On my last cruise Dis Tag was when we passed around a lime green posterboard in the shape of Mickey's head. If you found it on your stateroom door you wrote something cute and clever on it then you "tagged" another disser's door. After the crusie it gets posted on the board. How does the gifts fit in to tag? Thanks! Cathy

This will be the first time we have played the tag game, I am still a bit confused about it too. We have been very busy. DD is painting the livingroom/dining room and hallway, the ceiling in the kitchen and baths, fall is a good time for home maintenance.

So sorry I've not replied to bev/cathy's question.

first...details - suggestions and updates can be discused by all playing. listed below are details on how we played during our last cruise - so...we are the rule and fun makers on this game.

OK....here goes.

Anyone interested in playing needs to send me their details or post on our Yahoo Groups (under the Database link).

Hopefully we will have a Dis-meet during our first or second day at sea. It's great to 'put a face/voice - to a screen name'.
During this meeting...everyone playing will receive a 'mickey head magnet' and list of all persons participating (w/cabin numbers). I'll gladly make up the 'mickey head magnets' and copy off the lists for everybody. Since all will have their first 'mickey head magnet', 'tag' another person playing...as time with your family permits. You will leave your prepared gift: at the bottom of their door, with the stateroom host/ess, or in 'fish mail' (fish mail is a little holder outside - above and to the right of each cabin door...it's ment to hold a card or your state room bill..etc) - AND - put the 'mickey head magnet' given on the their door...i.e., tagging them. Then you wait for someone to 'tag' you. When you get tagged...enjoy the treat/gift and take the 'mickey head magnet' you received and pre-prepared gift delivering these to the next person on your list-----an so on----till you've 'tagged' all on your list (everyone else playing). So...if we have 15 people participating...you will need to pre-arrange...15 'gifts'. These 'gifts' don't need to be costly...just be creative. Listed below are some of the items we were 'blessed' to receive;
- a bag of movie snacks (assorted 'movie type' candy)
- a pirate mickey beenie
- a pirate flag
- scrap booking items (stickers...etc)
- a dvd someone created all about their 'home state'
- 'disney type' candy
- a cd with cruise tunes
- disney themed writing pens
- a mickey mouse pin
------we had a 'baseball rivalry' between cubbie and cardinal fans...each gave the other 'special gifts' from their favorite teams
------our past group had a 'theme'...we appeared to be a group that was visiting the dentist - way too often...so....some offered 'gag' teeth and traveling toothbrushes and toothpaste.
The above is a short list of items we received - sorry I can't remember more/all. It was wonderful and exciting to see...THE CREATIVITY OF OTHERS!!!
The stories at our last Dis-meet and post cruise postings were a real hoot. We had a Dis-er...acting like a secret agent....so she would not get caught by the person she was tagging. because I know the person and can make a 'good guess' at her age...it makes me chuckle thinking she was 'lurking around' hallways of the ship so she would not get caught by anyone.

I hope this helps...but, if you have any more questions...please don't hesitate asking.

Nan and I leave this thursday for our Canidian cruise...we are getting packed and really excited to have some 'couple only' time.

Jen,

Do you mean stuff on the ship? I know I have more 'free' lanyards around here than enough. We got some for sailing before (1 each), some more for DVC party (1 each) and 2 more for something else. So you may get some freebies if you fall in these categories.

Also, I seen plenty in the gift shops on board.

Hope this helps!

U2FAN.., Tbaks for the "lanyard" input. I do know that being a Castaway member we get 2 free lanyards per stateroom, so I know that;s an option. I just wish their was a way to get Disney Cuise lanyards online or something. I wanted to get 4, w for my kids & 2 for my niece who's coming as stocking stuffers this Christmas. Someone from the main forum did offer to get some for me in November when they cruise. I thought that was so sweet. :)

Anyway, thanks again. Oh, and My daughter and I looked at some of you wedding picures. She thought your wife looked pretty.

Hello to all. Hope each are enjoying a wonderful weekend!!

WOW!!!! So much to catch up on...
looks like we have someone new joining us...with an outstanding photo to post. Getting married on DCL must have been an unforgetable event...have taken a peek at your photos...OUTSTANDING...what an incredable memory - getting married onboard the MAGIC. Thank you for sharing.

Prom photos...COOL!!! You guys also look great!!! Again, thanks for sharing.

Jen...you will prob find some lanyards on eBay...this is where I've purchased some...'I wish I'd have bought that when we were on the ship'...items.

Nan and I are still 'catching up' from our trip - being away from the girls, home, work and church...I need a vacation from our vacation. We had an wonderful time cruising in Canada with Celebrity (I know...that's a bad word on these boards - flame away). Our weather was OUTSTANDING!!! We packed for rain...and just got a drop or two from the airport to our hotel. We fell in love with Vancouver and plan on returning...soon. All in all...a great time...but, kept comparing Celebrity with Disney. As great as Celebrity was…Disney wins ‘hands down’. I sure hope Disney plans a Pacific North West cruise in 2010.

REMINDER...we are just over a year away...I can't wait.
