I have decreed it!
Yesterday here in Ottawa, I was able to skate ski in the Gatineau Park with temperatures about +2 at 5.30 a.m. At 4 p.m., back in Ottawa it was about +10 and I was able to get in a 2.5 hour training ride on the bike!
Here are some photos from what may be the last ski for the 05-06 season.

Ridge Road (Trail 1), not far from the Mackenzie King estate (Kingsmere).

Champlain Lookout, a little after sunrise, looking north and west along the Eardley Escarpment.

From the Lookout, looking south and west across the Ottawa River. On a clear day, you can see Scotia Bank Place, home of the Senators.

From Huron Lookout, facing south towards Ottawa.

Ice formed from water "bleeding" through the rock cut along the Champlain Parkway, not far from Kingsmere.

Retracing my strides in the snow, heading southwest towards home (and the rising sun)!

Lone skier, "gutting it out" up to Champlain Lookout. What you can't see is that he's got a broken left arm in a sling! One of the real dangers up here is falling - being stuck, alone, in the cold with a broken limb can be serious business.

Notwithstanding the above, I was feeling cocky enough to take a photo of my skis as I was heading down the last hill.
I'll have to update in a few months from the bike, when the park is green and the deer (and occasional black bear) come out.
