Our family (wife, sons 5 and 1) will be going as well. Lauren and I cruised with Disney for our honeymoon in October 1998 so this will be our 2nd time. Starting on Sunday, the 26th at Boardwalk to make it a land and sea vaca!

aiken4mickey
08-30-2006, 07:27 AM
How great to be doing the Land and Sea......I have 4 kids ranging in ages from 14-7 yr old twins.........taking them out of school more than 2 days at this point is too much. :rotfl2: So, to make up for that......I just try to to save up and cruise every year.....but, not bringing everyone at the same time...it gets too expensive......this is special this time with all coming. Plus, we are traveling with friends and grandparents........should be a great time.....it's a surprise.....I am not sure how much longer I can keep it one. :hourglass

By the way I was able to make reservation for Palo this morning when I go to work!!! So excited I got what I wanted :cool1:

aiken4mickey

I don't know if you read some of my other posts....but, I was up at 3:00 am this morning......to get my Palo...I was successful getting 2 tables for the same time the final evening. I got upon myself as the one out of group that would handle this....I have another CC member's log in info from our group and I was able to login and logout and log back in and secure what we needed....After reading all the other posts about how nothing was available..I dindn't want to take chances! :cool1:

What evening did you get?

Fabinva
09-01-2006, 02:37 PM
I read your post after I wrote mine this morning, for some "weird" reason I thought the date was Sept 2 to book Palo, I just decided to try this morning and was surprised to see it working so most likely I got my dates wrong :rolleyes1 Trust me I was planning to get up at 3AM tomorrow but now I don't have to. I got the first night, figured the kids would not be as tired and should be easier to leave them alone for a while.
What night did you pick? How nice of you to booked for everyone

aiken4mickey
09-02-2006, 06:52 AM
We're 8:00 on the last night! :goodvibes A perfect way to end our cruise! Last Nov when we cruise .......we had the last night as well(missed out Tritan's night)....and loved ending it in Palo...our reservation was later...maybe 8:30 and we missed the Farewell in the Artium........One of the Mom's in our group was worried about our 10 yr old girls...so, she left Palo early and went to see about them...and take pictures...but the rest of us weren't going to miss the Chocolate Souffle :cloud9: That was my only regret...so, I hope the 30 minutes earlier will make a difference.....I have my 4 children this trip...my twins are 7 and too young to go on their own...and it's something I'd like to at least do with my 7 year old daughter.....and also encourage my 11 yr old as well to dress back up in Princess Gowns and do more pictures...for the 11 yr old...I feel like this is it for her :guilty: But, if the younger ones are living it up in the clubs and never know what they missed...then that's ok...cause that means the adults were living it up in Palo!

What night did you get? :confused3

My husband and I are going the very first night, we'll be at the parks before cruise for six days and I know by the time we board we'll be in need of a break from the kids and a quiet dinner.

Hubby and I will be on this cruise too! Our first-ever cruise as well......we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary this yr and we are cruising to celebrate! I can't book Palo till the 16th of Sept, even tho we are paid in full.... as we are not CC members yet....I'm not very hopeful of getting ressies tho....not gonna sweat it either way tho!! I am just wanting to have a good time! I think we will!

For those who are returning and now have the 'open window', is anyone considering the Rose Island Beach excursion? It looks new and maybe is replacing the Blue Lagoon Beach excursion that mysteriously went away.

There's one post out there that looks pretty favorable and we're trying to find something laid-back for our 5 and 1-year olds.

Our kids are the same ages, but opposite genders. Maybe we will meet up in the kids club sometime!

This is the second time on the Wonder for DH and me and the first for the kids. We left them home last time  . We aren't planning on telling them what we are doing until either the day before or the morning of the cruise. We are going to head to the airport Wednesday afterschool and neither confirm nor deny any questions they have about the trip. We will hold back the information as long as we can stand it :goodvibes

Hi Rachie,
it would be nice to meet someone from this board in person :thumbsup2
The first time my husband and I cruised was for our honeymoon aboard the Magic and we loved it! I wish I had no said anything to the kids about the trip but could not help it. Are you doing any excursions in Nassau?

I will be on the cruise with DH, DS 3.5, and DS 4.5. We will be at Beach Club Villas for 5 days before the cruise. This will be our second time on the Wonder and we are also looking forward to a little peace and quiet after several days at the parks.

I don't think we will be doing any excursions. We are planning on enjoying the partially empty ship while in port in Nassau. That is what we did on our last cruise also.

I'd love to meet up with some people. During our last cruise, there were only a few DIS members onboard and nobody seemed interested in getting together.

I heard that about the short cruises, I guess there is a lot to do for such a short time. I'm in for a meeting if anyone else is interested.

I haven't officially booked yet but as soon as SW comes out with some sale fares or DINGS for late Nov/early Dec I'm going to change our return date for our current WDW trip so DD13 and I can work the 11/30 cruise into our plans. :cool1: I canceled our 3-day that I booked for next Nov and switched to a 5-day RCCL cruise instead but I hated the thought of giving up CC, the sailaway party, etc, etc that I enjoyed so much on our first DCL cruise!! So, twist my arm, since DD and I already had a girls only trip planned to WDW next month I figured why not plan a last minute cruise and spend a few less days at WDW, that way we get to do the Wonder again plus try RCCL for the first time!!

SW released DING fares yesterday, but only for Dec. 1-19th. I'm planning on only a DING fare for the return flight now. They didn't offer any flights from Manchester though, which is what I'm waiting for.

Did you check the sale prices on their website? I saw on the transportation board last night that people were seeing sales prices (not DINGS) so I went in and checked and the prices were back to $59!! So I changed our departure time on the 29th and I changed our return date from MCO-MHT to two days later and it didn't cost me anything.

Our cruise is booked so now I just need to patiently wait for the next month to pass!! :sunny: I booked the CC stingray adventure and I'm hoping we get to do it at last!! We booked Stingray City on our first NCL cruise, missed it because it was too rough to tender in Grand Cayman, booked the CC stingray adventure last year, missed that one because of the hurricane that came through just prior to our cruise which caused the stingrays to escape when their net was torn away, so we'll try AGAIN next month!! :goodvibes

My mother and I will celebrate her 66th birthday on our November 30th cruise on the Wonder and subsequent trip to the Wilderness Lodge. Traveling without my kids, so Grandma is happy (LOL). She's new to Disney cruising. I've been on the Wonder before and highly recommend it. For you rookies out there, you will love it!

Check your DINGS today. I got roundtrip airfare for less than $100 from Indy for this trip, and my mom's airfare from Nashville was just slightly more.

Hi Everyone
Checking in for our FIRST EVER Disney Cruise. My husband and I along with DD 7, DS 11, DS 12 and Mother and Father-In-Law. My In Laws are celebrating their 48th Anniversary (Aug 06) so this is their present. We're driving from CT to spend Thanksgiving with them in Springhill, FL then we're off to the Grand Floridian 11/26 and then meeting them at the port for the 11/30 cruise. Kids are missing 8 days of school (makes me alittle nervous, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip for us). We have 2 adjoining rooms on the 6th deck also. We just booked our trip in September, so this is kinda last minute, but you guys have helped out so much - hope we bump into each other - thanks!!

I have seen some of you on the thread regarding Atlantis for $124 + tax. I booked it on Friday without putting too much thought into it. I didn't want to risk a price increase and decided that I would rather pay a $25 cancellation fee than miss the opportunity. It will be me, DH, DS 4.5 and DS 3.5. I understand that my boys will probably not meet the height requirement for the big slides, but I think I have read that there are baby slides. Can anyone confirm? Also, are the pools heated?

TIA

I can't answer your question about the baby slides but I'm flipping through an Atlantis package I got in the mail a year or so back and it says "11 swimming areas cater to every whim, with zero-entry and children's pools, free-form and formal pools, and the 7-acre protected Paradise Lagoon, a great location for snorkeling or enjoying non-motorized water toys". They also have a lazy river ride on innertubes which would probably be a nice thing for your family to do.

I've seen it mentioned that the pools are not heated but someone on another board who lives in the Bahamas said the pool temps in early Dec should be around 80 degrees (in fact, he said he was going to check his pool this afternoon to see what the current temp was).

I still haven't decided if I'm going to jump on this offer yet but I'm pretty sure I will, if only we could forecast the weather for 12/1!!

Not sure what took me so long to find this thread!

We're on this cruise as well - a first cruise for all of us - myself, DD8 and her dad! We're very excited about it. We're spending the week beforehand at AKL and a few days afterward at HRH. Yes, 2 weeks out of school... someone mentioned being concerened about that... Talk to the teacher - our school gives traveling children a whole folder of stuff to complete when they are pulled out of school for vacation. They keep a journal, fill out information about the states they visit, local foods, all kinds of learning opportunities... and then report back to the class about everything they learned. I think my daughter is looking forward to teaching the class as much as she is the vacation! :lmao:

Hi Cruise Buddies! I can't wait until the 30th! This is my first cruise and I have a question for some of you cruise veterans out there. I have 3 kids...ages 4, 8 and 12. I signed up for a couples massage on the afternoon of the 30th...the day we board ship. I'm worried about leaving the 4 year old without parental supervision while we shamelessly spoil ourseves. Ok, I'm not so worried that I would cancel the massage but I would like to know if the kids club is open that early on the the first day?

Hi Mike!

I haven't decided what kind of sign yet. I was thinking of having my DD6 do most of the work. We probably have our family name, my disBoards name and drawings/stickers on it. I'll try to talk DD into using Lime Green for the writing but she is big fan of pink!!

Off topic, but, I'm from North-Central Massachusetts!! I guess it really is a small world :goodvibes On our last cruise, I ended up getting a pedicure right next to a woman who lives twenty minutes from me!

ETA--I'm an idiot!! As soon as I posted this I realized DD still doesn't know we are going :rotfl2: . I guess I'll have to do the work myself ;)

I can't answer your first question, if there's pin trading it's much less noticeable than at the parks. Hopefully someone else here can answer your question or you might want to post it on the cruise forum for a quick answer.

I checked our navigators from last year and there was always a movie that started at 10:45 so you should be able to catch a late night movie after dinner (we have second dining rotation this time).

Two weeks to go!!

(Woohoo, I finally hit post # 1000!!) :teeth:

From what I've read in the book I've got about the cruise, they have pin trading meets on the ship just like they have wine tasting and other gatherings. Whether or not they have the pin trading meet on the 3 or 4-night cruises, I'm not sure...

Hi everyone - are you all packed? Or am I the only loser to wait til the last minute. We're leaving Tues 11/21. I have to pack for 5 and haven't even started. Good news is that I received a call last week that we had our rooms upgraded from Cat 8 to Cat 6. Now we have a verandah. Nothing like that ever happens to us so we're really excited. I had the docs mailed to our inlaws because we're leaving on the 21st, no sign of them yet though. Do alot of you guys have your docs already? One question, are kids allowed to wear "nice" shorts in the dining room or do they have to wear long pants. I'm already making them wear dressshoes on the dress up night so if you a couple of boys not smiling - that would be us!

No - you aren't the only one not packed. I've had a paper box from work labelled DISNEY BOX for about 6 months now. Every time I run across something in the house I want to take with and won't need until then, I throw it in the box. I'm a horrible planner and always forget a lot of little things, so I'm hoping a lot of those little things have made it into that box.

We're leaving the day after Turkey Day - but I should be pretty much packed by Sunday night - I know next week will just FLY by.

We got our traveling information this past Wednesday. Seems like there have been a lot of upgrades on this cruise. I kind of hope I don't get one - we're in a 7 now in the aft very close to both the secret deck and the laundry. I'm pretty happy with that! :teeth:

I know it's a short cruise, but any of you planning on bringing any pirate attire??

I got our docs yesterday and when I checked the DCL website this morning we were upgraded from a Cat 12 GTY cabin on deck 2 to a Cat 11 cabin on deck 7!! We were just upgraded in the past few days because DCL called me Monday about an address problem and they were still showing me in 2519 on Monday. I'm thrilled because we were on deck 6 last year in an oceanview cabin and I really like decks 6 and 7, we're midship this time so it will only be a short walk to the "secret" aft deck.

And no, I haven't begun to pack but we're not leaving until the 29th so I've got another 11 days before I'm likely to start packing. :teeth:

I'm still not packed either and we leave after turkey day as well, need to do that this weekend.
We got our documents yesterday only after calling our travel rep (Cotsco), I suggest calling your rep about them if you haven't gotten yours yet just to be safe.
Congratulations to the lucky ones that got upgraded :thumbsup2

We got our documents yesterday! Guess I'd better look at them more closely to see if we were lucky enough to get an upgrade??!!! I'll be packing this weekend. So far everything has just been going in a pile. I wasn't smart enough to lable a box :rolleyes1
Has anyone seen a weather forcast??
What is the "secret deck" you all are talking about?

Tiadeg - We've never been on a disney cruise before, but everything I read says no shorts in the dining rooms. :confused3 My 10 year old won't be very happy either. :sad2:

What is the "secret deck" you all are talking about?

It's not so secret anymore but click on this link and then click on "Deck 7 & 8 secret areas". We went out on the deck 7 verandah area last year when the Wonder docked in CC and we were the only ones there.

http://www.*****************/

BTW, the no shorts in the dining room rule is more for adults. Younger children are fine in shorts. I would just suggest shorts that are more on the dressy side, not jean shorts although your 10 yo could probably even get away with jean shorts. The Wonder is more casual than the 7-day cruise.

I know it's a short cruise, but any of you planning on bringing any pirate attire??

We are not. Our last cruise, they gave out pirate bandannas for people to put on their heads if they wanted. That will have to be enough for us. It is short trip for us, I am hoping to pack light.

I have actually packed, for my kids only though. Since they don't know about the trip, I put their clothes straight into the suitcase at the end of the summer. I have bought myself almost all new clothes for the trip  and DH is going to have to take care of himself.

Well, I started packing tonite and I'm feeling overwhelmed! We're staying at my in-laws for 4 nights, Grand Floridian 4 nights and cruising for 3 nights and since we're driving we have 2 travel nights. I figured 1 large luggage for each segment and duffle bags for the travel nights, a shoe bag and bathing suit bag. Come to find out, my boys don't have 11 pairs of shorts each (that fit) so I'll be washing at my inlaws before we leave for Disney and even then I don't think they'll have enough. (Them boys is growing like weeds and I can't keep up!) Anyways here I sit with clothes laid out on everyone's bed - boys and DH went scout camping for the weekend - and I'm tired and overwhelmed. Can I shoot out over the weekend and find more shorts - in CT - I don't think so. Packing for 5 people for 13 nights (and I refuse to do laundry at Disney or on the cruise - I just refuse!!) is more work than I thought. (ok I should have problems like this all the time!) The kids in dirty clothes on the cruise will be mine, the lady on the lounge chair drinking a bahama mama will be me!!

My husband and I will be wearing POC shirts, I am packing the kids pirate costumes, they are very excited about the Pirate party.

I feel the same way and feeling overwhelmed as well, we are spending 6 days prior to cruise at the parks and not sure if I'll have enough clothes to avoid the laundry room, husband thinks I'm overpacking but when I asked him if he'll do laundry for us he just left the room and returned with a bigger suitcase.

Living in FL, we've been to the parks a bunch, but this is our first Disney Cruise. We are sooooo excited. We didn't even tell our girls (9 and 5) where we were going, just somewhere very special, until the other night when I sent them on an indoor scavenger hunt that led up to a picture of the Wonder along with a note from Mickey. Yep, I guess you could say I'm a bit excited.

Orignally booked an inside cabin back in March. We were just happy to be going and figured we would try to save some $$. But then disounted rates came out and we were able to upgrade past a window to a verandah for a mere $100 more (total, not pp).

Wondering if the weather will be warm enough to actually enjoy the water. (?)

2 weeks from now, we will be there!!!!! :cool1:

I'm wondering about the upgrades you are chatting about - Does Disney hand them out randomly or is it something I should call and ask about?

"I'm wondering about the upgrades you are chatting about - Does Disney hand them out randomly or is it something I should call and ask about?"

My TA called me last week. She said "I have DCL on the other line and they would like to offer you an upgrade" I had not requested any type of upgrade. Two things though - I had asked the TA to call DCL about 1 week ago to mention that my inlaws (who are traveling with us) had celebrated their 48th anniversary in Aug and this was our present to them. Also, I was online a few days before the call looking at upgrades. I got nervous when the board started talking about being towards the front of the ship (which we were). Now we are mid ship. DH's theory is that they are balancing out the ship.

Yes, they're very random and free when Disney does the upgrade. You can sometimes pay to upgrade when you get to the port at a cheaper rate than if you paid to upgrade prior to the cruise, but if the ship is sailing full than no upgrades will be available at the port (I've read some threads saying DCL puts a sign up in the terminal if no upgrades are available).

Packed all day Saturday, luggage #1 down, starting on luggage #2. Leaving Tuesday night. Watching the weather everyday. Why am I obsessed with leaving with a clean house? For some reason everytime I leave on a vacation, I have to clean my house - just adds to the stress!! But it sure is nice coming home to a clean house - the feeling lasts for 10 mins. until everything gets piled inside!

Oh, yeah, DMom always gets that way too! Clean house before leaving, no matter what.

I'm so excited! I'm not sure if I will do everything I want because I get embarrassed to do what the brothers and dad call 'kiddie stuff', but if I go off by myself I should be a little better. I think I'll start packing next Monday. I can't believe it's so close! :hyper:

I do the same thing! I guess I want my house to be clean if something happens while we are gone and people have to go inside, for a repair or whatever! We are actually moving to a new house on 12/15, so this time I am going to leave my house packed up in boxes :teeth:

I managed to get most of my clothes packed today. DS4 was sitting right with me, but never questioned why I was trying on summer clothes ;) , so I guess it is still a surprise!!

Can't believe the van is loaded and we are leaving tonite! Two large luggages, 1 garment bag and 3 duffle bags later - not too bad for 5 for 13 days (told you I'm not doing laundry). Of course, I mostly packed warm weather clothes - positive thinking - or maybe I want a new winter wardrobe! The weather looks alittle iffy for now, but we're heading for disney (after our family visit) on sunday 11/26 and it looks like it will be beautiful. Thursday, 11/30 calls for thunderstorms, but warm. (anything over 40 works for us CT natives!) DH says weather doesn't matter cause we're going to have quality family time for 13 days! (We'll see what he's saying on the 6th day!!!) Can't help but to want everything to be perfect - but I guess it already is! See ya on the 30th - :cool1:

When I'm all done today, I'm going to take DD to dance class, while DH packs up the van. After dance, we are on the road :Pinkbounc The kids still do not know...I can't believe it! It was so hard not to say anything last night before bed!

We'll be in Orlando by the end of the day (but just barely, we have a very late flight)!

I never did get around to making signs for our door...but if I see anybody who looks disBoard-ish, I'll say hello!

Have a good trip everyone!

I made a door sign for our first Wonder cruise last year and there were hardly any other door signs so I wouldn't worry about it. :) How exciting that you'll be there tonight and for the kids especially when they realize their surprise!!

Our trip was amazing too! We got a call from Stef at Guest Services on Thursday night to tell us that we were selected to be the Magical Family of the cruise :wizard: We were given a free upgrade from Cat. 11 to Cat. 5 and a bunch of other surprises :goodvibes

OMG, that's SO exciting!! How neat for you and your kids!! :sunny:

I hope everyone here had a great time, I couldn't believe how beautiful the weather was, we went in late October last year and the weather this past weekend was better than last year. And naturally the cruise was fantastic also. :thumbsup2

My DD was embarassed at the sailaway party because we were up on deck 10 and the CM pointed up to her and said "Hey sweetie, you're not doing the twist, just do it like this", etc, etc. She's pretty shy and to be singled out in front of an entire cruise ship full of people was embarassing (she loved it though, her face turned all red and all she could do was giggle :teeth: ).

We spent a couple of days in WDW and now it's back to the office and back to the real world. :(

:cool1: I had a great time on my first ever cruise.
We had great weather!
A friend set sail a week later 12/7 and did not have the great weather that we had.
I was in an inside cabin on 2nd floor. My cabin host, Odell was wonderful.
One thing I learned is to set alarm or request a wake up call.
First morning of cruise, I slept till 1030am.
Missed breakfast. I hurried to top deck and was amazed by the beautiful blue waters of Nassau.

Hey, I know it's been a while since the cruise, but hopefully one of you is a pack rat like me...
I was also on the 11/30 Wonder and am now beginning to put together a scrapbook of our trip. However, when I went thru all the stuff I brought home, somehow I managed to lose the Friday 12/1 Navigator. I would really like to have a copy of it so it could "complete" all the memories I have from the cruise. If anyone still has theirs, could you please scan each page of it and send it to me?? I would greatly appreciate it! I have all the others, so I could do the same if anyone else is missing one.
Thanks so much!!!
