We are SOOOOO excited because we really need the extra space for our family.

How was the weather on your trip? We just got back yesterday from a four night on RCCL and because of the high winds, the boat rocked and rocked. We were unable to make a stop at their private island. Were you able to stop at Castaway Cay?
I really hope that the weather will not be bad for this cruise. :confused3

The weather was very good for most of the trip. It did rain one evening but only briefly. The seas were very rocky but the Disney boat has these enormous underwater stabilizers that it deploys and we didnt feel a whole lot.
We did stop at Castaway Cay and I would have to say that was the best part of pur trip.

Melora,
My DD who will be 17 at the time of the cruise is wondering if your oldest (will be 18-yr-old) is a boy or a girl? She met some great friends on our DCL cruise last year. Many of my Internet friends from another board had teens her age and I think that's what made the cruise for her! ;)

If you would like to share whether your kids are boys and/or girls I can update the first post.
Hope everyone had a great Easter. It was originally supposed to rain here but Mother Nature decided to hold off until about 10 minutes ago so we had a beautiful day!
Please let me know when you are ready to start chatting and we can pick our day and time!

My daughter is 17 now and will be 18 on this cruise. She met so many people on our cruise last week and says she misses them already.
She wont have the same freedom next cruise because she will be staying with us in the Cat 2. She had her own Cat 10 cabin last time so she got to invite her firends in for late night room service etc. She is a great kid who we trust so I didnt have a problem with her doing that. Our 2007 cruise she will have to visit friends outside the cabin and come in VERY quietly when she goes to bed. As we are on the West Coast its hard for her to go to bed early while on East Coast time.
The younger kids are a boy, Alex (will be 12 then), then theres Katherine who we adopted from Russia last year and she will be 8 and Jeffrey Jr will be turning 7 the month we cruise.

I really hope we have perfect weather :sunny: and smooth sailing pirate:!!! On our Western last year, we missed both Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay. It really wasn't that the weather was so bad as I can only remember clouds the 1st two days but the seas were very rough during most of the cruise. If we miss Castaway Cay again, I doubt DH will ever agree to cruise Disney again. :sad2:

We'll have the $$ for our cruise in Sept, is there any benefit to paying early???
We booked through DU and I think we got a good price. Since it's our first I don't really know
I priced the Cat 2, but it would have been twice as much as the two Cat 9's and we just can't afford that :earboy2:

Elizabeth,
Sometimes your TA may run a "free gift" early payoff promo but I don't know specifically about DU. Otherwise, other than peace of mind, there's not really any advantage to paying off ahead of schedule. I would bet that you got a really good price since you booked so early. I'm going to compare prices when we're onboard this November just to see if I'd be able to negotiate any "extras" versus my current ressie....send some pixie dust my way for that....
I'm going to try and pay ours off early simply because I can't count on next year's income tax to handle it. With us getting married in November I lose all those special things for being "head of household" with the two girls....I think we're going to take a big hit!
Has anyone thought about picking a chat night yet or are we all busy with our various duties? How about we shoot for after school lets out when hopefully we'll have a little more free time? Of course, I'm up for chatting anytime...maybe we'll have have DISers come onboard the thread once we are closer to the 1 year mark....

I hope that everyone is having a nice summer.

So with the newest regulations, what is everyone doing about passports? Dh & I have them already but I need to get them for the 2 kids. If I don't really need them for this cruise, I'd rather not get them yet. On the other hand, they are good to have anyway.
Plus not having to get them yet would help DSis & her family who are really budgeting big time for the cruise already.

For those who don't have passports, I would not get them just for this cruise, since they will not be required.

Make room for us!
And an extra big Hello to my fellow cruisers from last week's 11/11 - 11/18 cruise. Not sure if we'll actually stick with this date as we usually do the parks for a few days post-cruise and this week's Thanksgiving crowd was overwhelming! But, for now, we're onboard - Cat 6 on Deck 6.
I'm not even unpacked from this week's cruise so I can't bring myself to start the countdown yet for next year!
Happy Thanksgiving DISers!

Lauri how was the weather on your cruise???
We had great weather, except for our second sea day, when it rained a little overnight and in the morning. We had trouble docking our second Castaway Cay day due to the winds, but we made it, and it turned out to be a very nice day.
Hi Donna! Hope we'll see you aboard next year.

Anyone starting to think about excursions and stuff? With the stinky weather lately, I've been dreaming of those Caribbean Islands! LOL
I already have a long wish list of spa treatments for the cruise. (Darn disneycruise.com makes it too easy to make that "wishlist!" )
Lauri
01-16-2007, 12:32 PM
Chronic planner here. I'm thinking about excursions, but don't know what I'll be doing yet. (If I approach it with my family yet, they'll have me committed:rotfl2: .) We've done two modified Westerns, so I'm not really familiar with the Eastern ports.
Lauri
Stimpy
01-19-2007, 01:37 PM
:lmao: I started looking into the excursions as well! I keep sending emails to the rest of the family with links for some non-DCL ones. They are sending me back some not so nice responses about being too early! Glad to know it's not just me! :rotfl:
So what are you looking at now? :rolleyes1 I'm leaning towards 2 different ones for our whole group. Since we all are generally not sit around on the beach-types, I love the pirate ship/snorkelling/small hike things.
We live 5 minutes from the beach and DSis's in-laws own a house in Rehobeth Beach they go to all summer, so we're really not into going to beaches the whole vacation....although the beaches of Long Island/Delaware are quite different from the Carribean! So we save our "beach day" for CC.
Lauri
01-19-2007, 02:19 PM
We're in the same boat (and on the same boat:rotfl: ). We love Castaway Cay, and that will be our beach day. On cruise critic, I saw a zip line excursion that looked great on St. Martin, but it looks like it must be booked through the cruise line, and Disney doen't offer it. We may do the under two flags tour there. I just got a whole stack of books out of the library; plan to do some reading this weekend.
Where on the island are you? I'm a displaced south shore girl myself.
Lauri
Stimpy
01-20-2007, 10:08 AM
Where from? We're in Blue Point now and like it. (Except when the dern tax bills come! :scared: )
Did you try http://shoretrips.com/ for the zip line? My DD is still too young for that so I didn't look too closely but I thought I saw some mention of it there.
Books sound like a really good diversion now :rotfl: And since our library is so tiny and I can never find what I need....I'm off to order the latest Passporter from Amazon! (The 1 I have is 3-4 yrs old but I'm sure there has to be something new to make it worth the money  )

jjgarv - congrats.
Ok i'm still confused about the dining rotation. I have second seating what will my rotation be? what night will be pirate night? formal? semi-formal night? We never did Palo on our first cruise but since my in -laws are coming and they love that kind of thing i want to book it. Any help would be good.
woody73
02-03-2007, 10:47 AM
You will get your dining rotation when you check in. I recall that formal night is on the first day at sea, and semi-formal night is Thursday (the day at sea before Castaway Cay).
Woody
Stimpy
02-04-2007, 03:44 PM
Pirate Night is on Tuesday ( I think St Maarten day?)
Also, you can guess what your dining rotation would be by who you are travelling with. I know there is a chart out there somewhere that can give you an idea of what it might be. There are no guarantees but they try to keep to the same rotations. For example, people with young kids genereally get 1 rotation while people with older kids get a different one and adults alone get the other one. I'll try to see if I can find where the chart is an post back. :)
We've travelled with young kids the last few cruises and have had LAP (Lumieres, Animators Palate, Parrot Cay, back to Lumieres etc) as our rotation, I think.
Stimpy
02-04-2007, 03:59 PM
Ok replying to myself now :rotfl:
It seems we were in the group that does not follow the typical chart LOL So I guess that proves that the general rotation schedule is not set in stone :rotfl:
According to the 2 places I found the rotation (Passporter Guide 2007 & Deb's site), LAP is usually the adult one
APL is young children
PLA is older kids
LAP is adults

. . . Tell me, how will we be able to recognize each other??? . . .
Different cruises do it differently. The "official" DIS color is lime green. I've seen lime green lanyards, t-shirts, pinback buttons, name tags, luggage tags, stickers, wristbands, boas, and leis to name a few.
It all depends on what people want -- or are willing -- to do. Any volunteers?

Hi everyone. My family is also planning to cruise on the 10 November Eastern Magic. There's me princess: , DH pirate: , DS 15:cool2: , and DS 13:yay: . Although we've been to WDW many times, this will be our first time on DCL and our first cruise ever. I've learned so much from the DIS boards already and look forward to picking up more tips as the date gets closer. My family, especially DS-15, think I'm obsessed and a bit crazy to be planning so early, but I've found with Disney, the more you know what to expect, the more you can relax and enjoy yourself once you're there. Hi Lauri,
That's great. My 13 y/o is also not so sure about the teen club and will be happy to know there's at least one other boy his age to hang out with. Maybe before the cruise, we can get them "acquainted" or share names or something, so they can meet up on the ship and feel that they already know at least one other person who will be at the teen club. Hopefully, they'll both feel more comfortable that way. I'm hoping they will be able to use Ocean Quest (10-14 year olds) a fair amount as that sounds like a lot of fun.
Susan.

Sounds like we'll have at least a few boys in the same age groups which is definitely a plus, particularly for those of us "newbies" whose kids are a bit unsure of what to expect. No guarantee that they will bond or want to hang out together, but one can always hope......!

we are definetly doing a ferry or boat to st john and to trunk bay. our friends vacation in st john every year and highly recommended we skip st thomas and head to st john. it is more our style. plus with young kids we won't be shopping, etc and they (the kids) will be happiest on the beach. keaton MAY be old enough to snorkel (at 6 yrs old) but chloe will not be so i'm not sure how we'll swing the snorkeling thing since one of us (dh or i) will need to be on shore with her. (she will be 4)
st maarten, i have no idea what to do. not shopping. i think we may rent a jeep and tour the island on our own and stop at orient beach or another nice beach.
any beach recommends? i don't care whether it is a nude beach or not.

Oy!!! Has anyone noticed that the price of most cabins jumped about $700 overnight (we are 2 adults, a teen, and a child). Last night must have been popular for booking this cruise, as the cabins that have been showing available in our category (9) are now all gone. Lots of people want to join us for the fun!
Welcome Skye00!

I think we're in too!
We had to bail on our 11 Med due to business issues and we're coping by doing this one and a week at WDW afterwards.
It'll be Ted - 50, Karen 46 and Alexandra 12 ( going on 21  ).
Any other teens or tweeners on board?

Is it November yet?! :hourglass We are looking forward to a fabulous time on our first (and hopefully not last) DC. :cheer2: We are travelling with friends, but in our family of six:
Me - 39, DH - 38. DD - 8 DD - 3, DS - 3, DS - 3 (yes we have triplets!) :dance3:
We decided not to stay for WDW this time as we have APs to Disneyland here and have visited WDW a few years ago. We haven't had a "real vacation" since before the triplets, so we're REALLY looking forward to this trip! I'm hoping there's more DD's around my daughter's age so she can meet some girl friends before we sail!
Looking forward to getting to know you all better! And hope we can keep this board hoppin!

Thanks for the warm welcomes! Okay...so I'm getting addicted to these boards! So much great information. When my 2 1/2 year old triplets see me at the computer, they look for the picture of the boat and yell, "I wanna go Mickey Boat mommy!". :dance3:
So where are people staying if coming in early? We are trying to decide whether to stay at the Radisson or Country Inn and Suites. Is anyone just doing the cruise and not WDW?
We're on Spring Break this week and I'm shopping already for summer clothes and other items for the cruise! :hippie: Its always hard to find swimsuits, sunglasses :cool2: and water shoes in the Fall! Any other "can't live without items" to pack for those of you who have cruised before?

Hi Everyone!
We just came back from our spring break trip--visiting grandma and grandpa in Arizona with a quick trip to Las Vegas for DH and me. Now, I have nothing to plan for, except our cruise!
Anyone have ideas for their excursions yet? I approched it with my family at dinner last night, and they don't want to think about it yet. They're not the planners that I am.
So I knew I could come here and share my obsessive planning with you. We've only been on Westerns, or variations of Westerns, so I'm not sure what to do on the Eastern.
Lauri
3lilpigsnprincess--We're staying at the Doubleetree the night before on points. I wish we could add some days at the World too, but the schools just won't allow it.

Two items that come in handy are:
1. Mesh pop up laundry bag, and
2. Hanging shoe organizer (the kind with pockets).
We use a shoe organizer in the bathroom to organize toiletries. Families with kids also use one to organize toys.
We got both items at the dollar store.

We use a garment bag. Our first cruise, we used two garment bags. Last cruise, we had it doen to one. We really try to limit what we take.

We also use a garment bag for the more formal stuff.
We'll be staying at the Country Inn & Suites the night before, first time for us there.
So far we're staying at the BCV the night we depart but I'm not sure now. I forgot that's the start of Thanksgiving week at WDW so I don't know if we're going to do it or not. (we don't do well in big crowds LOL) I might look into Vero Beach but I'm not sure if by the point we might have enough of the water and beaches.
Excursion-wise, we're looking into 2 non-DCL ones. DCL doesn't seem to have too much that we are interested in that will also include our youngest child (DD-3 next week!) and my nephew (almost 2 at cruise time). If we do private excursion, they can come along too. Plus, we aren't really beach vacation types. We like to do things and see things rather than staying on the beach...not that there is anything at all wrong with that! Our beach day will be CC.
My sister and I are already shopping for the kids clothes too! :rotfl: I think my nephew already has a complete wardrobe just for the cruise, including his Pirate outfit already. :woohoo:

You know it's getting closer when you start having cruise dreams. The first was two nights ago. We forgot all of our formalwear, and they would let us eat in the dining rooms. Also, instead of boarding into the deck 3 atrium and announcing our family's name, we had to enter through the basement (on a ship?). I also could not get to Rockin D Bar to change Palo reservations.
I guess it just means that it's time to start planning!

Oh i hear ya about "talking up the kid clubs"!
The other thing I'm into these days is BRIBING  my kids to be potty trained! I am NOT going to pay for the three of them to be in Flouders and they WILL :scared: be potty trained by their 3rd birthday in October so we can enjoy the cruise and they can swim in the pools!
M & Ms work for one of my guys who LOVES candy. My dd on the other hand is so stubborn...she will not even SIT on that potty seat. So now i'm telling her I'll take her all by herself to Disneyland to see the Princesses and the Princess castle. That actually worked tonight. So keep your fingers crossed for me that all goes well in that department.
My girlfriend whose family we are cruising with and I are going shopping tomorrow (much to our husband's dismay) for cruise things! Bathing suits and comfortable summer wear is on the list. And a trip to the Disneystore for some fun summer wear.
My 8 year old is thrilled to email your daughter "spoohs" so we will be in touch!
And thanks everyone for the info. on hotels! I think we will try the Country Side Inn and do the shuttle from there.
Let me know if anyone finds cheap flights! They are quite costly at the moment flying from Southern CA ($440 round trip x 6)! Didn't factor that in on the cost of the trip! :scared1:

You will see that all the flights will get much cheaper when the "low-cost" carriers open up those dates, so wait a little longer.

thanks for the tip! I was thinking that the price might go down. So around what month do you think I should be looking for prices to get cheaper? I know theres a fare sale that went on for summer fares in the last several weeks...but those are only good through August or so? Even with our frequent flier miles, we didn't have many good options of when to fly for the lowest fare, so those aren't helping us as much as we thought  .
Stimpy
04-23-2007, 01:59 PM
Don't forget, coming home is the weekend before Thanksgiving so prices on the return flights may not go down as much as other weeks. We forgot to factor that in when planning our "budget"....yep at one time we tried to "budget" :lmao: We have to wait for Southwest to release their dates first before we can book airfare.
Trisha, my DD just turned 3 on Saturday and we have been trying for months to get her potty trained. Tried everything, bribes, reward charts, you name it. We waited to plan this cruise just so she would be able to go to the clubs. When we went 2 years ago, she just turned 1 and we really wish we could have arranged it so we could have some alone time....well we did but it was alone as in 1 parent had alone time & 1 parent had DD. Not quite what we had in mind :rotfl: Anyway, DS (now 7) was trained by his first cruise so we are keeping our fingers crossed that she will be for this cruise. Nothing like a cruise to put more pressure on potty-training LOL Good luck doing it with all 3! :goodvibes
We couldn't get our son out of the clubs! We had to bribe him to have dinner with us every night on his last 2 cruises.
So, has any one checked to see if they were upgraded yet? :lmao: I check about once every 2-3 weeks but more for my DSis...she's in a Cat 11. I'm kind of hoping since it's her family's first cruise they'll get hit with a tiny bit of DCL magic. We picked our stateroom (Cat 6) & are attached to my parent's reservation/stateroom which is right next to us so I really doubt either of us will get an upgrade.

Some of the low cost fares should comeout within 30 days or so and the others will follow shortly after that, because of the holidays this will lead to the major airlines to drop the fares for a short time, so keep an eye on it if you want to fly on one of the majors or book on the "low-cost" when they comeout. Frequent flier times are not the best times but they are the best price.

With dis tag there is a magnetic tag (Mickey head) that gets placed on the door of one of the players. They in turn sign the tag and then place it on the door of another player and so on and so forth. It is fun to come back to your room and find out that you have gotten tagged. It is also fun to get to see all the wonderful door signs of your fellow dis'ers. The person with the tag on the last morning takes it home with them.

If you go to the main DCL page and search for magnetic door sign you can see hundreds of them. All you will need to do is design what you like and then you can buy the magnetic sheets at Walmart and print them out on your printer. Although you should always test out on regular paper first. You can also order the paper online or get it from Staples or Office Max, ect.

Just checking in (and bumping our thread).....
It's been a while since I checked this, and it seems like there are quite a few more families with younger children; any more teens (especially boys) on the cruise?

No kids for this cruise for us!
Our 3 kids will stay at home with grandpa & grandma!!:goodvibes

We were way back on page 2 again. Just thought I would bump us back up.
Anybody have any big plans for the holiday weekend? We are going to see POTC tomorrow popcorn:: . DS went today with MIL and loved it - he is going to go again tomorrow. Now if I can just keep the blabbermouth from telling me about the movie I will be happy :rotfl: :rotfl: .
Have a great weekend!

How did it go? You are going to have to try and post a picture after you get it done. I haven't even come close to that point. Actually, I make DH do them.
Has everyone got their airfare booked?

Linda, I didn't have the time to make it today:sad2:
I'm in my paper work at the companie, so it might take a day or two:goodvibes
My airfare was booked with Disney! And I'm glad we did it that way, because right now its cheaper for us to fly with Disney then with any other air line that we would book ourselfs:rolleyes1
Its 800$ US for the two of us from Montreal (Canada), and I've seen the cheapest at 1200$:scared1:
zack&alexmom
05-28-2007, 08:06 PM
$800 doesn't sound bad when compared to $1,200:eek: . I am glad I booked mine when I did because it has gone up a lot since I booked it.
Now I have to decide if we are going to get passports or not:confused3 . I really don't want (or have) another $450 to spend on passports but if we are going to need them in January then I might as well. If they extend it again then I will be sorry that I did. I have to decide soon though because pretty soon it will be too late.

That is adorable!! Great work!!! I wish I could figure out that kind of stuff. Stupid question....does the whole magnetic paper go through the printer or is it a regular paper that you stick onto the magnetic paper?
We just got back from WDW a few days ago and now I'm in full cruise planning mode.
No airfare here yet, we're still waiting for SW to open up past 11/2. We have Country Inn & Suites booked, Budget car rentals booked and I've been scouring Ebay for pirate outfits for my kids.

Stimpy, the whole magnetic paper goes trough the printer with no problem:goodvibes
I was soooooooooo excited to see the results!!!!:cool1:
Also Stimpy you've got your rental car reserved, tell me how much did you pay? We are looking to rent a car for a day only, the cheapest one, just to go to the groceries stores to buy some wine, beer & water.:)
Linda, don't worry, I'll make at least 1 or 2 more;)

Hey all! We just booked today!!!! I feel so far behind compared to all of you.
The Cast:
Me (mary) 23
DH: 24
DMom: 44 (turns 45 our last day!)
DSis: 10 (11 by cruise time...my how the time flies)
We are Cat. 9, but not sure what room or anything
We are thinking about doing the St. Thomas semi-sub/90 min aquarium tour excursion....and then St. Marteen just chillin on the beach, and Castaway doing whatever seems fun at the time. DM and DS are probably going to do different stuff (we are probably going to split up a lot). I can't wait, just reading about the cruises gets me excited....oh! I didn't mention, we are ALL cruise virgins! We are also going to stay the night before the cruise at CBR (maybe do MK that day, we get in way early on Airtran). Anyways, happy planning everyone!

In that case, there are some girls that are emailing each other. My dd is 7, will be 8 on the cruise and she is emailing with a few other girls. They may be a little young for your sister though. My DS would email her too if she wants.

I'll talk with my mom about if she can email back and forth, i'll let you know. She's very restricted in terms of internet things....though she DOES play VMK. I might be able to be a "go between" and have her use one of my emails....I'll talk to her tomorrow about it and I'll PM you :). Hopefully it'll work out, I'm sure she'd enjoy getting to know some other kids. She's outgoing enough I think she'd find everyone...but we recently lost my father (45 years old to ALS) so I'm not sure how that's going to change her personality. Anyways, like i said, i'll let you know :)

I am so sorry to hear about your father. My father has lung cancer that he is fighting right now but at least I am an adult. I can't imagine how much harder it would be to lose someone when you are so young:hug:. Even if your DM doesn't want her to email back and forth we can send her welcome aboard email with a few pictures so she will have a familiar face in the clubs.

The last part would be great to start with, and from there I'll finish talking DM into it :p I'll PM you my email address. Her name is Rachel and she's currently 10 years old (11 in september). Yeah it's a really hard thing to go through (losing a parent)...and something none of us are quite over yet....but we are all looking so much forward to this cruise it's a bit ridiculous.
Thanks everyone for the welcome :):woohoo:

Be sure to check the roll call list for accuracy. Let me know of any changes or additions -- such as pre or post-cruise plans. Many families enjoy meeting fellow cruisers at WDW the day before the cruise, or at dinner the night before the cruise.
Try to include ages at the time of sailing -- especially for the kids. (Okay, you can be perpetual age 29.)
