Has anyone had to cancel a non-refundable airline ticket because of an illness? My sister in law is not doing too well and is not sure she can go to Disney now. We have the plane tickets bought. Any thoughts?:(

I don't know the answer, but wanted to send some pixie dust.
If you don't get a reply here, you might try on the Transportation Board.

I don't know which airline you are using, however... I had good luck with Southwest when I became very ill prior to a trip. My dh called the reservations line, explained the situation,(non-refundable ticket trip was in 5 days) Anyway, Southwest gave us 1 year to use the ticket. I ended up transfering the credit to a friend so she could come visit me. It was exactly 1yr after we had to cancel the original trip. Southwest was very nice about the whole thing.
Good luck, hope your SIL feels better soon.

My SIL had planned to travel to WDW with us last year. Unfortunately, she fell ill and was unable to go. USAirways assessed a $50 change fee (I think that might be more now) and gave her voucher good for one year from the original date of departure.
