My husband just purchased a $50 Mickey Gift card at www.thedisneystore.com and it was free shipping too!

I went and checked it out and it does say it's a new item! I didn't see that it said free shipping but they didn't charge my husband. He said he found out about it via an email from the Disney Store.

We can use these at the Disney Store to buy Disney Dollars can't we?? I'm so excited.

Just thought I'd pass it along in case someone wanted to use a webcertificate to purchase one and then go to a Disney Store and buy stuff.

:D

another suggestion is to buy with your webbie to take to the "WORLD" no need to get the plastic webbie card that way!

The possibilities this opens! Actually, I saw them tonight at the Disney store but did not make the connection that they are also available on line. Does anyone know if these are good just at the Disney Store or are they good in the parks too?

Never mind, i went to the disney store online and it is just good for the stores. That's ok!

Can you use you DC discount? I would buy about $4000.00 of them then and use them to pay for our trip.

No, you cannot use any discounts to puchase gift cards or Disney Dollars.

That would be great, though if we could!

If you purchase the gift card through the Disneystore.com can you then use it at a local Disney Store to purchase Disney dollars?

I think so. I haven't found out for sure, but I can't see why not...

If anyone finds out, let us know and I'll do the same!:D

I checked last night and the manager at TDS said that you CANNOT exchange giftcards for DD. On the back of the card is says that you cannot use a GC for either payment on a Disney Credit Card or for cash. And DD are considered cash. I am bummed too! I had hoped to exchange a GC for DD but I guess that I will have to buy the plastic webcard.

If you can't use them for DD, can you use them to purchase park passes? Anybody know?

I was at TDS this weekend and the CM I spoke to said you could use the Gift Cards for park passes. They would, however, have to be purchased at a Disney Store....you could not use the cards to purchase passes at the parks. It was also my understanding that the gift cards could be used to purchase Disney Dollars as well (at least that's what this CM said.....)

I read this thread when it first posted. I thought, let me see if I can buy a gift card from Disney Store online and apply my DC discount. I went through the process and it did accept my discount. I bought a $100 Gift Card for $90. I thought this is awesome. I went to the TDS near me and I was told I could not buy DD with the card. I was so disappointed. Then I asked where at WDW I could use the card and the CM said nowhere...I said not even World of Disney Store? And she said no because World of Disney is not owned by TDS. Well, I guess I will either have to buy $100.00 worth of merchandise at the Orlando Airport TDS or I don't know what.

Martha.

Okay, I may be in left field here, but since it seems to take the DC discount on the website, you could buy $1000 or so worth using the DC discount and pay only $900, then buy your annual passes at TDS using your DC discount, and end up saving quite a lot of change....

This is interesting....

That's what I was thinking too. But I'm afraid to try it since it is so much money.

I called my local Disney Store today and they said that it would be no problem to use the cards for passes. The only restriction was on Disney Dollars.

Still, I know what you mean. I have gotten to the checkout screen twice now and I keep flinching.

We need to buy around $1500 in passes for our January 2002 trip, and that would save another $150 bucks.

I will still probably do it....after I call back and ask another CM to make sure they are SURE.

If someone does try this, let us know if it works. I don't need to buy mine until late 2002 but would still like to know. Thanks!

I went to TDS (To get my Snow White DVD) and spoke to the manager, told her exactly what I intended and she said it was NO PROBLEM.

So, based on that I ordered some discount cards tonight. Ten at $150 each. $1500 but it only cost $1350, with my DC discount! Free shipping too.

To get the discount make sure to log in at www.disneyclub.com, then go to shopping. It shows on your shopping cart the 10% discount that was taken off.

I'll let all of you know how it turns out.

I bought 4 - $150 Gift Cards last week. I figured, what do I have to lose? I needed to buy parkhopper tickets anyway. So I went on TDS website, ordered the Gift Cards, looked like it was accepting the Disney Card Discount, so I went for it. Plus I went through MyPoints!!! Ran to the Disney store yesterday and bought my 5 day hopper passes. Worked fine.

I cannot begin to thank all of you on this board for all the different suggestions I have read and used. So far, I have cashed in on 3 - $25 GC, 3 - $5, $20 cash for surveys, and $10 amazon GC. All thanks to you. I will toast you all when I am sitting in the Rainforest Cafe next February, when I pull out my GC to pay for my part of the meal, and my Sister and her family, and my parents are reaching for Cash!!!!!!! Can't wait. Janis

Alas, I just got an email from TDS online guest services saying that the discount should NOT have applied. I guest the earlier discounts received were oversights. (I figure I also hit a red flag since I ordered so big.)

Oh well, it would have been nice.....

Just wondering about your email from TDS.

I'm ordering GC's and it's giving me the 10% DC discount. I plan to purchase theme park tickets at TDS (and save the additional 5%) with these GC's. Once TDS online emailed you about the mistake, did they give you the option of cancelling your order? I'm still debating whether to do it or not!

Thanks. Pinky

I just tried to order giftcards using the 10% DC discount and it wouldn't let me! I would get right up to the CC Authorization part and it would reject the order because of an "invalid expiration date" . I tried several times, even with different cards and it didn't work.

No option to cancel was mentioned, but they said if I had any questions to contact them. I replied and told them I wanted to cancel the order since I had not authorized a charge in the amount they wanted to charge me.

I "assume" it was cancelled. I haven't gotten a charge on my credit card yet. No matter if I do, because I will still use the gift cards to purchase my AP later this month.

Here is the text of the email...

Dear Mr. Allen,

Thank you for your recent order.

The Gift Cards you ordered cannot have a discount applied to it. As
stated online under Guest Services, "Disney Gift Cards are considered as
cash and therefore discounts do not apply". We removed the discount on
this order. Your order total is $1500.00. If you should have any
further questions please feel free to contact us.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,

DisneyStore.com

I work in Ann Arbor and TDS here told me I can NOT use the gift cards for theme park passes, ONLY merchandise (she actually took my name and number, researched it and called me back). I wouldn't mind losing the discount when buying the GC's online but it would take me 5 years+ to spend that much on merchandise!

Any Michiganders have any better luck than I (in Lansing or Novi maybe) buying theme park tickets with gift cards (still getting your DC discount)?

Pinky

I suppose its one of those who you talk to deals. The manager of my store said it was the same as cash except for Disney Dollars.

It would really suck to go on the wrong day...heh...heh
