Anyone else a bit disappointed by the content and length of the Shamu show right now? We were at Sea World twice from Jan29-Feb10. There are renovations on at the stadium and the show is being changed with a new launch of "Believe" in May. I am sure that it will be great, but in the meantime, the show has currently been cut back.

In Feb 2005 the whale and dolphin stadium was closed during our trip and we caught the "new" show this year. It is great and has many new elements include trapeze artists and birds, however as a dolphin fanatic I noticed a lot less focus on the dolphins and their "tricks"/behaviours. Still a great show, though!

We are thinking of going during the middle of May.

They did have a dolphin show in the the Blue Horizon stadium. Couldn't believe how they had 10 dolphins in one tank doing the tricks at the end. Shamu show only had killer whales, birds, and trapeze artist.

Feb. 17 & 19 visits to SeaWorld was our first time. We were very impressed with the Shamu show. It was amazing seeing this enormous killer whale doing a ballet move on dry platform. We were sitting on the last row of the "alleged" soak zone. My husband swore up and down that there was no way we would get wet. We were in Row 14 for goodness sake! Right behind us was the handicap row. It wouldn't be PC to wet guests in wheelchair. I started getting nervous when the Asian family sitting directly in front of us got up and bought two $6 rain poncho with the SeaWorld logo. My husband said they were silly to waste $12.

Of course, when Shamu swam by half way into the show, he creates a tidal wave with a flicker of his tail fin! We got soaked, the handicap row got soaked, and two rows above them got a little of water as well. So BE WARNED!!!

I know the show has been cut back right now because of the construction and that the orcas are still being worked and trained the new tricks. we got a mailer from SeaWorld yesterday about the new Believe show. all it says for an opening date is spring 2006. there's a spot on the passholder website to check for updates.

Yeah, the anticipation of getting wet is half the fun! Well, for my kids anyways, after the first time for me I must say the novelty has worn off. As an earlier poster said, you'll have to check the site for the actual date for Believe. Everything in the park said spring or May. Perhaps what you see at the Shamu show will depend on the stage of construction and how close things are getting to the new date. I would imagine that what they do each day will change a bit so some days you might get lucky! We didn't see anything like an earlier poster described. The number of shows per day was also reduced during our vacation.

We were at SW yesterday but didn't even make it across the bridge to the stadium, but they did have more shows scheduled than over Christmas. They had 5 shows yesterday. We just didn't have time to even see what changes they have made.

I hear ya! Our last visit to SW was on 1-13-06 & I noticed a big difference in the show! Don't get me wrong, I still liked it (esp. the movie part...Thanking the soldiers-Very touching!) But I Do understand where you are coming from about the cut back!...It's a Bummer! My Fav. part from the Old show was when they picked a child out of the audience-to interact with the whales....I Loved it when one of the cast members (would "pose" as someone from the childs' family)....As they were taking a picture of the child....they backed up...Right INTO the water & fell in w/Shamu! My heart used to drop everytime I saw that part! Funny how they got me Everytime!....I guess it's cause I could SO see that Really happening! :)

If I am not mistaken you are mixing up the dolphin show with the Shamu show. The old Dolphin show had the little cabin with the front porch where the child's family sat for the show. When it came time the dad or mom would go with the child to the water-forget to take off their socks- then the child got to feed fish to a dolphin and touch a dolphin. Eventually the parent(trainer) would trip and fall into the water and then come out of the water riding a dolphin.
Shamu used women against the men in making Shamu do tricks. Always one of the men would get soaked and then was given the towel.

OH my Gosh! You are So right RabFlmom! There's my forgetfulness kickin' in again  And good thing you mentioned this b/c I haven't seen the dolphin show in sooo long....If you hadn't of said n-e thing then the next time I would've gone to see it....in the back of my mind I would've been thinking that part was from the Shamu show....And then BAM they would've "tricked" me Again! Well that is if they still have that part (with the trainer falling in) as part of the dolphin show!...Do they?? I really do Love that part! Also the part you mentioned...the men vs. women in the Shamu show....that was Great too! Anyhow, Thanks for clarifying! My mind is now fresh & rejuvenated! :) ~Kristi

They have completely redone the dolphin stadium into a new show called Blue Horizons. It is not the Jimmy Buffet kind of place anymore. Now it is fast paced filled with Dolphin/trainer stunts, high divers, etc. and gets better every time we see it.
So no trainers pretending to be parents and falling in. You will love the show, though.
Can't wait to see how they change the Shamu show.

I liked that whole Jimmy Buffet kinda vibe they had goin' on at the dolphin show...I'll miss that BUT I'll always have my memories (As vivid as they are - HA!) :rotfl2: I'll have to make a point of it to go see the newer dolphin show....it does sound neat. I'm also curious to see what they will be doing w/the new Shamu show.

Blue Horizions is an awesome show. The music, the colors, the action... I absolutely loved it. I have it on video and watch it frequently...
