If you're redeeming AM for plane tickets do you usually get the cancellation insurance with it? Is it worth it?

Would cancellation insurance on a credit card cover flights redeemed with AM?

I usually don't by the travel insurance when using Air Miles, but for an up-coming trip, I did..I have an awful feeling that I will be really sick (the last 2 years at the exact same time, I've been in the hospital with strep throat).

I would love to know what others think about the insurance. For my trip, I redeemed 850 miles and the cost of the taxes and insurance was around $100.

I usually do buy the insurance if I'm using more than 1000 or so airmiles in total (don't really know how or why I arrived at that number, but everyone needs rules and I guess this is one of mine)

Anyhow, in November 2000 my DW & I were to travel to NYC for me to run the marathon. 3 days before leaving our DD contracted the chicken pox and to make matters worse my wife hadn't ever had them. Fortunately we had purchased insurance and they reimbursed us for her flight, which obviously she couldn't go on.

They offered to reimburse for my flight if I wanted to cancel my flight as well.

Cancellation Insurance Always!

You never know and especially with the amount of Airmiles it takes!

Don't forget about Medical too, if you don't have thru work.

Small price to pay for peace of mind.

But would you need the Insurance from AM if you have trip cancellation insurance on your Mastercard?
