Sorry if I have missed a similar thread. I'm new to the DIS boards, but certainly not to WDW. I am approximately 200 pounds overweight. Not exactly sure, since I don't have a set of scales that will weigh me accurately, but I'm figuring I'm somewhere around 380-400. I'm only 5'10".
The last time I went to WDW was in July of 2004. I lost 50 pounds before that trip, down to about 300. Next trip will be in December for DS's 5th birthday, and I would like to at least be back down to that weight again.
I'll take all the encouragement I can get from men or women, but I was interested to know if there were any men in similar situations and how they got started/are getting started on the road to being healthy.

I not current in that position but when I started posting on the WISH Boards weighed 375. My goal was to lost about 150lbs. If you look back a couple of pages there is a 300+ thread for people who started at over 300lbs. I'm now in the upper 260's so I've got about 45 lbs to go. Good luck. The most important advice I can give is to find something you think you can do long term.

I'm no where near 300lbs but I lost 60 lbs and have gained back 20lbs.
What I found was stay far far away from fad diets.
Forget the low carb or low fat or anything low.
It is 100% calorie in / calorie out.
If you eat 1000 calories today and it takes 1500 to live that day you've burned 500 calories. Excercise increases your calorie output (which is what I'm not doing now).
It took years to put it on and it won't come off in a week.
Good luck to everyone

I have decided to go to Weight Watchers, starting on Thursday, Feb. 9th. I lost 50 pounds with them the last time I was there, but then I moved and have never picked back up with them since then. So at least tomorrow I will know my starting weight......

Welcome BamaBaloo, Youv'e come to the right place to look for support. That is why we are all here. There was another guy on the board who had lost a great deal of weight. I looked back on the pages but couldn't find him. Maybe he will see your thread and contact you. Maybe you can get hooked up with a buddy to help you on your way to great weight loss. My DH is 5'11" on goes 330. I wish I could get him to do something. He's the one that got me on this board. Good Luck with your weight loss journey and keep us all updated with your success. :grouphug:

Thanks for all of the encouragement! I have added the clipart to my sig. I can't wait to start changing it! I'm definitely going to start participating in some of the challenges as well. I would love to hear from SnackStacky. One of my biggest problems is always looking up at the mountain of weight I have to lose and always feeling like others have it easier because they don't have as much to lose. Even though I know all about setting small goals, it is still difficult to not think about the fact that I need to lose 200 pounds, which seems like it would take a lifetime. But again, thanks for the encouragement from everyone, and I will be starting a journal to keep everyone updated on my progress. My first WW meeting is Thursday at 6:30p CST.

Hi BamaBaloo!
I lost 168 pounds with Weight Watchers. I reached my goal in 2003, and have maintained my weight loss for 2.5 years now.
While it's not 200+, it's close!
I believed (and continue to believe) in the program so much that I decided to work for Weight Watchers. Also - it was so daunting to walk into that meeting room and to see not ONE male face behind the counter.
I wanted to make it a little easier for guys to walk into that meeting room! :)
The way I tackled my weight was to not see this as a monumental task - but rather to become healthier. And I have. My WORST day on program, today in 2006 is about 400x better than my BEST day before 2003.
Anyway, back in 2002, I took a trip to Disney World. It was the first time I'd been since 1986 - so I was psyched! I was terrfied that I wouldn't fit into any of the rides. I lucked out. But when I returned, my father was looking at the pictures from the trip - and he said of a picture of me in a teacup: "Wow! He really fills up a teacup!" He said this behind my back to my sister. My sister relayed it to me. I knew that when my father was taking shots on me, that I needed to do something.
Here's the before picture: (Yes, the one my dad made a comment about)

The after picture is in the signature.
My wife is currently pregnant - and it's not an easy first trimester. So I'm not on as often as I'd like to be. Please feel free to PM or E-Mail me for questions, support, chat - whatever you need. You can also reach me via AIM. My username is SnackyStacky.
Lots of luck, and support to you! :)

Thanks for the inspiration! I noticed that we have something in common. In the teacup pic, you had on a bland, non-descript polo shirt, probably purchased at the big and tall. In the "after" pic, you have on a cool retro Mickey shirt. Being able to wear nice clothes is one of my biggest motivators! I hate the way I look in pictures now, to the point where I almost refuse to be photographed. I'm going to get there, though!

That was a huge motivator for me too. I wanted to be able to shop at Structure. (Now Express Men) I just kept my eye on that, and it helped a LOT.

HELLO....I just wanted to say good luck. I do not have 200+ to lose but 63 feels like 200+ to me...anyway, I just started weight watchers last week, and did my first weigh in today and was down 5.8 pounds :thumbsup2 . WW really does work, my advice would be to make sure you write EVERYTHING down that you eat, and start moving...even if it is just a little walk or something. Another thing I did was pay for 10 weeks up front. I thought if there were 10 weeks paid for then I would at least stick to it for those 10 weeks, and when I see the difference (which I know I will) I will stick with it.
I wish you all the luck in the world. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they're available in your area, the season pass gives you the same type of "commitment", but it's much easier to use!
We just finished selling them for the winter/early spring season, but they should become available again sometime in April.
They're better than the 10 weeks because you don't need those coupons. It's like a Disney World annual pass for Weight Watchers! :) You just show your season pass, sign the sign-in sheet, and get weighed. In our area, the weekly fee is $11, but the season pass brought the cost down to about $8.75/week if you bought t the first week. So it's also a pretty good monetary savings.
