Well finally 3 months after the wedding we have gotten around to resizing and and posting some of the pictures. First off we did not have a FTW @ disney, we got married in virginia and honeymooned @ WDW, but we had a very obvious disney theme throughout the wedding/reception. It was wonderful :goodvibes Anyway, we thought we would share a few pictures of our cakes, because it was this board that we got a lot of our ideas. We hope you enjoy.
This was our grooms cake:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f294/cplofdisneynutz/GroomsCakeThanksMarla.jpgMy Aunt makes the best cheese cakes in the world and she had the idea to make 3 seperate cakes and then decorate it like this!! We LOVED it
This was our wedding cake:
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f294/cplofdisneynutz/100_0049.jpg The champange glasses in front of the cake were from the disney florist, they have mickey ears etched in the glass, and of course the cake serving set had mickey and minnie on the handles (it's hard to see in the picture).
take care and may all your wishes come true!!

The topper is our undergrad college mascot! The cake is...well, not what I wanted, but DH had strong feelings about what he wanted, so I gave in a little. Also, we had to have such a big one that it made it difficult to really have what we wanted because we had a huge number of guests.

We upgraded our Intimate cake. I really wanted a square cake with edible flowers in our colors (burgundy and ivory) on top and cascading down the side (of course you don't really want to eat that sugar stuff!) and Disney got it exactly the way I wanted and it was absolutely delicious :goodvibes

If you don't mind my asking, I am also curious as to how you upgraded your intimate wedding cake...I did not know this was allowed. What choices do you get in your upgrade?
Thanks!!!!

Re: Upgrading Intimate Cake
I told my EM that I didn't like the standard Intimate cake and I had my heart set on a square cake. I googled square wedding cake and found a couple pictures and sent them to her with a very detailed description of what I wanted. She told me "don't worry about it" and I just left it in the Disney bakery's hands and they got it perfect! I don't remember the exact cost but it was right around $260 to get the cake.
This was the "old" Intimate rules as I booked last February and things have changed but Disney will do anything for a price.
Happy Planning :goodvibes
P.S. cryssi your cake is SO cute!

For our Disney wedding in FL, we had the standard intimate wedding cake, however, for our Post-Wedding Celebration back home we went with a vendor known here as: Heavenly Sweets Cakes. They are indeed, the best (in Indiana) at what they do and have been voted best by our local wedding experts for 3 years running.
Anyway, here is a link to the wedding cake that we ordered. The only difference is the initials and our cake topper was done by a florist and was made with roses only. Our Wedding Cake===Dots and Monograms (http://www.heavenlysweetscakes.com/gallery/page13.htm)

Can you order a small cake like these if you are at WDW for your anniversary or are they only for weddings. I saw the WDW wedding show and would like one of the individual cakes with the castle that they made.

The cake for he Mad Hatter's Bridal Tea
I know that the 3-tier Mad Hatter's cake is $980.00, but has anyone asked if you could do just the two tiers, like Jill's' bridal shower cake. I read somewhere that the Mad Hatter cake is set at $940.00 for 84 people, but if I only have 40-50 people, do you think the two tier would be enough, and would they do it? :confused3

Princeslisa- I believe you can have a smaller cake (2 tier). I believe Disney charges you for 50 people no matter how many you have and the mad hatter is probably around $15 pp. So figure around $700 for a smaller version but don't quote me on this I am only speculating!
My mad hatter cake is running about $995

This is Mickey's Delight that feeds 50 or more people. I was suggested a smaller version that feeds 30 people - they use the two round tiers from the "standard" intimate cake, cover in fondant and stamp with the silver mickeys. There's a picture of it posted by melmel in this thread: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1069631

I'm sure they could make it smaller, you could just have the "water tower", maybe on a small square or circle cake?

Where did you find these bobble heads of teh disney bride and groom?
Actually I paid to have them custom made from www.whoopassenterprises.com
You send them photos of yourself and your hubby and they carve them by hand to make them look just like you. Mine wasn't that close looking but Frank was a mirror image. I paid extra for the bride & groom ears. Be aware it did NOT fit on our wedding cake. The cake was one inch smaller in diameter on the top layer than the bobble head. We added the castle at the last second and it turned out beautifully.

I loved my wedding cake! We had 35 people at the wedding, and we could only do a cake for a minimum of 50 people, so we had the whole middle layer and top layer when we left the reception.
We gave the middle layer to the bell staff at the GF when we checked out and we wanted to take the top layer home for our anniversary. Unfortunately with the heat and carrying it everywhere with us, it didn't make it. When I got home and opened the box, it was completely smashed in :-( But at least i have the pictures to remember it!

I love that cake Katie! It's one of my favorites on the thread. Of course I'm partial to the mad hatter cake. I just wonder if I should spend the extra $$ to get it for my intimate wedding. We'll probably have right at 20 for the party. I like the two tier ones I've seen...
Keep posting...I love to look at all the cakes here!

I had 35 guests but "had" to have the 3 tier, a 2 tier would be perfect for 20 guests. I was thrilled with my cake! Go for it!

My cake actually wasn't what I had requested (the stars were supposed to be stamped, not fondant), but I still thought it was beautiful. We had a "Wish Upon a Star" theme.

I designed both the wedding cake and the groomscake. The baker that I found in Atlanta was SO excited to do a Disney-style cake... she's always wanted to do one :o)
Here are 2 pictures of my wedding cake... we had our initials ACT on the top tier.

lol. well, i've heard of them, but i've never actually seen one in all of the weddings i've been to around here. my DF doesn't really "Get" the whole grooms cake thing. but like i said, he doesn't even like cake all that much either, so he just says "it's more cake that i won't want to eat" lol. but he did say he'll eat the actual wedding cake because....it IS our wedding!

You have to use Disney for any and all food and beverage including cake. The only exception is wrapped favors if you make them yourself or something like that. Disney takes food safety VERY seriously.

I really dont have a clue why they change these cakes? I realize different people make them at different times but in all honesty-- sometimes you get different from what they advertise. I have seen some with color on them too-- and no one had requested the color be put on the cake. I just dont understand them sometimes:confused3

I wonder if they actually forgot about my cake. It tasted SO stale. My WP was away on vacation for the 2 weeks before my wedding and returned the day of. I wonder if it was actually ordered as a wedding cake or if they "made do" at the last minute with a cake that was already in the bakery. It just didn't look like a "wedding" cake, you know? It's fine though...I had a "re-do" when I got home. On our "one month" anniversary I just ordered a cake (chocolate with chocolate mousse and white buttercream icing) from a great cake place in St.catharines and DH and I really enjoyed it :rotfl:

I dont know:confused3 Ive seen a lot of disney intimate cakes that ended up different. I do think they should train everyone to have a somewhat standard approach as to making them look alike. Atleast then we know what we are getting instead of showing up the day of hoping we get the one we wanted..:wizard:

I think it's lovely! Your cake reminds me of Mommy_Poppins' cake (page 5 of this thread). Like Maggimus said, it just depends on who is making it that day. Some of the Intimate cakes are more intricately decorated, but they always seem to do a nice job. I am sorry though that you didn't think it tasted that good.
My sister works with a gentleman who used to be a DFTW EM and he said the best cakes come out of the WL bakery so I guess we got lucky that we got married there :goodvibes Our upgraded cake looked and tasted amazing!

Here's a pic of my wedding cake. Sorry that the pic is a bit washed out, but my wedding was 4 years ago, and my photographer was still using film, so it's from a scan. Our wedding was beach-themed--the reception was at Ariel's, and the shells and coral on the cake were all white chocolate.

Since all of you are questioning it, the reason that all of the cakes look different is that the designs are specific to the bakery. In ForKeep's case hers really is unsual for the GF bakery, but otherwise the other cakes seen are standard unless they are upgraded.
Maggimus
02-28-2007, 03:29 PM
Sajetto-- We have actually had a lot of intimate cakes posted in the past that have been somewhat different-- some with colored icing even-- not upon request. I think thats what we were talking about. They are suppost to be very standard, but most of the time they are slightly different in design and sometimes color. Like Jen said, I think it has to do with who makes the cake that day.:confused3. I think this was mainly just talking about how sometimes there are differences in the cakes... all turning out beautifully.

I've been reading along on this thread...someone;) took a peek at my pics and asked me to post a pic of my cake. So here it is:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/lunaselene66/Disney%20Wedding/002190-0034.jpg
This was the basic intimate wedding cake. I did not ask for anything special. The green icing didn't bother me in the least because I had planned my entire wedding to be very casual, lighthearted, and maybe even a bit whimsical.
Over the years I've seen lots of pics of cakes. Each of them is really beautiful, IMO. One of the things I've noticed is that traditionally, I guess, they are almost always all white. Having a touch of color makes it stand out a bit more, or just gives it a more personal/customized feel.
I like to think the chefs who make these cakes are artists (and I'm sure they think the same thing;) ). Because of that, even if they have some standard they go by, my guess is they put some decorative, individual touch on each and every one to make it special.

I'm not bitter or anything...it just wasn't a favourite part of my wedding. And I'm glad that I loved my bouquet (I would have been disappointed if I didn't like my bouquet) and I did manage to get 2 cakes out of the deal in the end ;)

Thanks everyone for the compliments
DisneyBrideWannabe- Yeah im sure you can request it. Why dont you copy and save the photo to your computer and then email it to your coordinator telling her you want it to look just like that one. I did that a lot with my coordinator out of fear things might be slightly different-- remember you ar ehaving an intimate but you still have a say. And nope-- no extra charge (i do things the budget way!)
Lynn- Since you are having a custom you can have yours look just about any way you want (Im sure with a charge-- but i dont know how all that works).... if you want yours like that just tell them-- but you have a lot more flexability in cakes (much like the other neat cakes on this thread). Let us know what you decide!!

Hmmm, I'm confused, I don't really know what to do now:confused3 I love the look of some of the intimate cakes but I just wanted to make the cake my own I guess. I sent in a picture to Tanis and she has told me they can do all I've asked for and the price is likely to be minimal if at all, as there isn't a huge variation from the intimate anyway.
I think I may look again at pictures online and see if I can find a cake I absolutely fall in love with, and only then will I send in the pic. The white castle is tempting though......

I'm justifying spending money on the cake in Disney and then not having a cake at our home reception - is that weird? To invite people to a wedding party/reception and not serve traditional wedding cake? I was thinking like cute cupcakes with candy or chocolate seashells on top.
Our idea for the reception is a late night celebration party - a chance to celebrate with everyone at home who doesnt come to Disney. Not a full formal dinner, but heavy hor derves desserts and open bar
I just don't want have to buy for things twice - I see my wedding will be at Disney, at home I just want to celebrate our new marriage.
Is that strange to do? subsituting cake for other deserts and themed capcakes?:confused3

Was your cake an intimate or custom cake?

I wanted to join the cake fun, so I posted mine on this thread too. I was just looking through the thread again and there are some beautiful cakes on there. I remember the beginning of this thread was when I was planning mine and see everyones cake really helped us decide on ours. Thanks again for posting your cake photos.
On a side note....we just got back from visiting WDW last night and we visited all the places are wedding took place. I see them all in a different light now. It was magical going back after the wedding and reliving our special memories. We talked about everything all over again, the flower, the cake, the fireworks, etc.

I *totally* wanna have cupcakes for my at-home reception, so I don't think it's weird at all. It's actually a pretty big trend right now. We have a cupcake place called Sprinkles (a teeny chain of, I think, two stores) that makes the most amazing huge delicious cupcakes, and they sell tiered stands to display them on - it looks kinda like a cake made out of cupcakes.
In fact, now that I think about it, the only reason I even want to bother with an at-home reception is so I can have Sprinkles!:rotfl:

If you look at page 2 of this thread, you'll see that Fantasia Sam had cupcakes at her at home reception. I think its a great idea. :)

I'm going to be talking with juliana tomorrow so I'll ask her about the cakes and why they look different and if I can request anything or colors even though I'm having an intimate wedding. :thumbsup2
Let me know what you find out from Juliana. She is my WC as well. I sent her an email with several questions, including cake options and haven't heard back from her yet !

I don't have a really good one yet- the colors are sort of off on this one! We did the frog prince at the top and the scotties at the bottom was suppose to represent my dog!
It is a little out there and I had no idea what it was going to look like, but it was definitely fun!

We are also not doing a traditional wedding cake at our at-home wedding (can't see spendnig $250 for only 50 people). Instead we are thinging of either renting a chocolate fountian with diff't fruits and cake pieces($75) or having a dessert table with may different desserts (cookies, cheescake. make-your-own strawberry shortcake). Just thought I'd share. :)

First off, not having a cake at your wedding is NOT bad...i've been to a wedding before where they had cupcakes in all different flavors for everyone. Personally, we had chocolate fountains at our wedding in addition to our cake....and everyone LOVED it. We had one white chocolate and one milk chocolate with a ton of dipping things (strawberries, rice krispy treats, sugar wafers, etc.)...I didn't get near it (i was worried i'd drop it all over my dress) but there was a huge line for it the whole night! Here's a picture:

This cake is beautiful! If I would have had a custom cake, it would have looked just like this! I don't have pics of my intimate cake to share, but it looks very much like Mommy Poppins' from page 5.

Bumping...I know there's a newer cake thread out there somewhere, but this one has a lot of pics of the variations of Escape cakes. I thought it was helpful!
