Disboards Weekly Walt Disney World Photo Contest Rules and Topics

Contest Rules:

Contest will run from Monday to Sunday 11:59 pm EST, entries after this time will not be valid.

A new thread will be made for each contest.

1 submission per member, per contest.

Once you post your picture you can not replace it.

Pictures can be either digital or film

Pictures can not be altered, except to crop, resize, or add watermark. This is a photography contest, not an editing contest.

Pictures can not be any larger than

Pictures may be taken at any time for any contest

Voting will start the day the contest ends.

If there are less than 12 entries, 1 poll will be posted, and will be open for 7 days

If more than 12 there will be multiple polls which will be open for 4 days, with a final poll consisting of the leaders from the previous polls lasting for 3 days.

You may not enter photos that were taken by breaking park rules.

You can include pictures taken from ANY Disney park that relate to that weeks topic.

I understand the purpose of the following rule{Pictures can not be altered, except to crop, resize, or add watermark. This is a photography contest, not an editing contest.}

however, most film pictures are technically edited for density, or color correction when dealing with night shots or stage lighting..etc.. in a photo lab when printing,

just as someone with their own darkroom would manipulate a print to get the end result they want, therefore digital editing really isn't out of the norm, it's just one step in producing the best possible print..

perhaps another way to look at it is to allow editing, and let the judges decide, if the pic is good or if it looks too fake..

I guess what I mean when I say no editing, is like some of the pictures you do (which are gorgeous by the way) where the picture is black and white with only a few key things in color, or adding clouds and a blue sky to a cloudy day, removing things (like trashcans or people) from the photo, etc. Although these things do make the picture beautiful, they change what the picture actually was. Does that make any sense? I have set up one of the weekly topics to be photos that are edited in that way.

I like that idea, those living close to the world, have many more opportunities to take Disney pics.., maybe several contests,

1. disney
2 non disney.
3. altered or edited .photos....

My reason behind this being 1) this is a Disney Board, 2) with me having the topics set up for the entire year it gives people a chance to plan what pictures they wanna take when they go, and 3) with all of the members here on the DIS (especially the ones always posting in the picture of the day thread) there should always be enough people to participate in the contest and keep it Disney related.

This is just my thinking. Now if someone wants to start up a non-Disney related contest that is fine by me. I just thought it would be nice to have one that was solely related to Disney, and I can't really handle running two contests. Does that make any sense?

hey it's your idea, you should do as you want, was just throwing the idea out there since so many people on here have posted non disney pics.

being a Mickey fan I am kind of disappointed that it all started with a mouse, yet you give mickey pics such a small option{birthday}, yet Donald and others get anything Donald, etc..

Sorry, I meant to remove the bday part. That was kind of a mental note for me. That week is the date that Mickey starred in his first cartoon, so it is kind of like Mickey's Birthday. Sorry if that confused anyone. I will fix that immediately. That should state ANYTHING related to Mickey Mouse in honor of his "bday".

:confused3 Ok, maybe I'm just stupid, but I can't figure out how to attach a picture. The FAQ page says to look for the "browse button" at the bottom of the post composition page. I looked and I can't find it. Also, the posting rules at the bottom of the page say that I cannot post attachments. Does that mean I'm in trouble or something? :sad2:

Also, does converting an image to b & w or sepia count as editing?

Jen, best bet is to try www.photobucket.com. Many here use it, works great, very easy. If you get stuck, make a separate post here for someone to help you. Not sure about the editing question.

Hey Debbie!! Have fun while you are there. Kids of the World basically just means a picture of a kid at Disney, and the comic relief one just means a funny or comical picture taken while at Disney. Hope that helps.

I know this is kind of early, but when will you start showing future subjects? I'm traveling back to The World in January and would love to take a list with me. I'm going through what I have from the last trip for the current topics and am looking forward to what amounts to a scavenger hunt for me in January.

I will probably post next year's topics in either November or December, so that everyone will have enough advance notice. Though to be honest. they will probably be pretty much the same as the ones for this year. Only difference being any special events going on at the Disney parks next year.

Merchandise photo contest. Disney seems to go out of their way to set up their displays, and I have found myself taking quite a few pictures.

Pixar Since Disney now owns Pixar we could use this theme for one of our contests.
