View Full Version : BCV add-on thoughts

I was just thinking that if pool hopping were to stop at Beach Club once BCV opens, what could I do?
Simple, add-on to BCV. Playing with the numbers at $80 per point a 25pt add-on would be $2000. Figure dues at $4/pt, then the simplistic total cost with purchase would be $6000 over 40 years. 25 points should buy 2 studio week nights during most seasons. (I'd need 28 pts for 2 magic season nights) Guessing that the points will be the same as VWL.
Summing this all up, I could get 80 nights in a BCV studio for $75 per night. Looks like a no brainer.
The real beauty of this plan happens 4 years from now when our son graduates. Our OKW points could still be used at once for a family vacation, then Our BWV and BCV points could be used at different times for 2 different short getaways. 3 trips a year.
I guess a BCV add-on is in my future. Any thoughts?......spruce

I have been thinking the same thing! Thank you for figuring out the long term math I am hoping they will have an especially inticing pre- buy incentive.

Spruce, I just passed on a BWV 50 point add on because of BCV and SAB. We will go home for the first time to BWV in Dec and while I know we will like the larger accomodations, I'm afraid we will really miss SAB as that is the only resort we've stayed at since Y&BC opened. How would you compare the two pools? I've never been up close to BW's. Well if it's like last year, it'll be a little chilly to swim anyway! So our plan is to add on at BCV but probably for 100 or so points since we will probably try to stay 4-5 nights there.

I was under the impression that if staying at BCV (once opened) one couldn't use SAB? I hope this is wrong and I can't say why I have this impression just thought I read it on this discussion board.

Guests staying at BCV will have full use of all BC facilities. There has been speculation on this board that, once BCV opens, SAB may not be available for pool hopping from other DVC resorts.

No official word from DVC has been announced regarding this, however.

Stay Tuned!

kem330 the pools at the BW are very nice. We usually just use the quiet pool. I have never been down the slide at the main pool.
SAB as you know is like a mini water park. No other resort pool that I have been to matches SAB. I'll list the pools that I've been to onsite in order of my preferance.
1) SAB
2) BWV
3) Carribean Beach
4) Wilderness Lodge
5) OKW
6) Port Orleans
6) Dixie Landings (tie)
7) Contemporary
8) Disney Institute
9) Coronado Springs

We have not been to any other pools. I think that when we do the Poly, it'll be up near WL. What's left......the All Stars, Grand Floridian and AKL. GF looks nice, we have no desire to swim at the All Stars and we can't get in at AKL. As you can see, we enjoy the benefit of pool hopping. We hope Disney keeps it.......spruce

I wish you all would stop giving the DVC management ideas like this! ;)

But seriously, if they read here as we've heard they do and they hadn't come up with this idea already they've just found an excellent way to boost those BCV add-on sales. Take away SAB and here are all these members ready to do an add-on.......speculation has just turned into a rather nasty bit of reality. (Quite possibly)

Now can we all think of any other way we can ask DVC to take away the privledges we have now and make us pay for them?

I appreciate all the creativity and speculation that does happen here...but why talk about it as if it has already happened...especially when its not particularly in our favor as members.

Just a thought when I really should be asleep...

Removing SAB would be inconsistent with past practice when opening DVC resorts.

You can still pool hop to OKW...

You can still pool hop to Boardwalk...

You can still pool hop to WL....

They have implemented the wristband which should keep non-guests out.

Let's not get gloomy or-- as the previous poster stated -- give DVD any more ideas!!!

but I thought I had read that even though Beach Club may not be availble to trade into when BCV opens, that Yacht Club would still be available. If so, would that not make SAB still open to pool-hopping? I am sure I missed something somewhere, but that was my thinking.

Acceess to a resort has nothing to do with pool hopping. They are mutually exclusive concepts. The property is deleted from the Disney Collection as far as using reservation points.

However, pool hopping privileges have never been part of that equation.

AKL is the only Disney resort not open to pool hopping. Every other resort is subject to seasonal limitations.

I don't think DVC will have any problem selling BCV with or without pool hopping. As of now pool hopping would still be part of the deal until DVC changes it.
Sure they read these boards, in fact I was told so by the GM of OKW. I was told this at a time I was inquiring about logo merchandise. DVC has yet to respond with logo merchandise of any substantial variety of inventory even with these boards constantly asking about more stuff.
The speculation about wheather pool hopping would continue at SAB after BCV opens has been going on for months. I think that I have not planted a seed in any DVC Execs. mind that hasn't been brought up here before or been thought of independently by one of the suits that run DVC as a business for profit.
This is an open forum and everyones opinion is valuable here. Maybe I am looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist yet but, since this is an open forum , I was wondering what other members of this board thought. ;) Smilies and a wink doesn't blank out the censorship wished for.
I hope I didn't start something here but I had to respond.....spruce

Speculation is not a factor in our decision. Due to kids on different school schedules, we only go together at Christmas/New Years and there is no pool hopping to SAB at that time. And Spruce, thanks for confirming my opinion that SAB rocks! I just love the meandering pool and grounds. GF main pool was a big disappointment- no theming just a big pool. I'm not sure how much better the new pool is.

Censorship? Not my intent at all....as you have said this is an open forum....*anyone* can read and post here. But I was trying to point out that because anyone can do so, and that because there are many reports confirming that DVC management does read these boards, offering up certain information may not be in your best interest. Kind of like the idea of not posting your home address and your vacation dates as to avoid a burglary. As always individual discretion rules...each person must decide what they are comfortable posting...I just thought I'd mention the possibility that these ideas could be used to our detriment.

And I did not intend my post to be a flame at you, spruce. I know this idea has been brought up in the past. When I posted I was half asleep and apparently stepped on some toes..sorry.

I do feel that its much more likely for DVC to actually take the ideas that do not benefit us from these boards than the ones that would....especially those that members don't seem particularly bothered by.

And I won't say that BCV add-on isn't in my future....and it is a great idea for those who love SAB and can only travel during pool hopping restriction periods. I can't wait to visit SAB on my next trip!

So, back to the idea of an add-on at BCV, a discussion of the advantages and dissadvantages would be interesting for me.

- There is a fairly major road right next door with regular "fairly noisy" buss service using that road.

- There is no view of the lake.

- The lobby area and theming is great. There are several indoor areas when it rains, (more than BWV?)

- The pool area and a beach area are very nice (although no swimming in the lake)

- 3 bedrooms will not be available.

- Closer proximity to Epcot

- Boat service on the lake to MGM and Epcot

- Beaches and Cream

Other thoughts?

If they don't get rid of some more of those trees all anyone is going to see is woods! Kind of like the one side view at Beach Club. I personally think that is a disadvantage.

Does the Beach Club have a work out facility?

I wonder if the Beach Club will also have a community hall like Boardwalk with those activities. Does Wilderness lodge?

Thanks for the info. We're planning our next add-on.

Good Questions, I have never been to the Wilderness Lodge Villas and I assume Beach Club Villas will be some what like them as far as any extras.

Are the Wilderness Lodge Villas just Villas or is there added things in that building such as a resturant?

Does anyone know if there is plans to put a resturant in the BC Villas buildings?

CaptainMidnight

We visited the Wilderness Lodge, and I didn't see an additional restaraunt. Wilderness Lodge is actually separate from the Villas with a covered walk leading from one to the other. There is an extra lobby with the villas. I think there was a workout room off of that lobby, but I might be mistaken. I didn't get a chance to look inside to compare the equipment to the Boardwalk and Vero Beach workout rooms, which are very well equiped in my opinion, and which I tend to use each vacation, since I tend to wear a bathing suit and need to do anything at all to try to help that situation for the poor unfortunate onlookers.

There is no additional restaurant at VWL but there is a a workout room.

Lesley,
As spruce said, DVC/DVD management reads these boards. After I posted a specific complaint earlier this year, I was asked if I was POOH&PIGLET!

Hi all, this is my first post so forgive me if it's not too fancy. Hubby and I are very interested in buying DVC, and luckily I found this board! What a wealth of "insider" information. Thanks to everyone's advice "Buy Where You Want to Stay" we have decided a resale would be a better option for our family of 6. Might I also add I am ADDICTED to reading all the great posts and consequently my house is a wreck--who wants to clean when I can dream of Disney! So on to my question...What the heck is SAB? I've figured out most of the other abbreviations, but that one has me stuck! (Is there another thread that possibly lists them all in one place?) Also, I'm curious about how the add-on process works. If they're selling add-ons to BWV for example, why not open those up for sale in general? Do they offer add-ons only to certain DVC members, or only certain times/amounts/etc.? Thanks again everyone-
Wendy

To answer your question it is Stormalong Bay (SAB). It is the fantastic pool that is shared currently shared by the Yacht and Beach Club resports as well as DVC members staying at a DVC.

It is a favorite to many wdw fans.

The fear is that when the BCV is completed they will no longer allow DVC owners at (HH, BWV, VWL, OKW, VB) to use it unless they are staying at BCV.

Hope this helps.

WenNRay...

Right now, the only add ons available to everyone would be at VWL since it is not sold out. So in effect, add ons are available to everyone. BWV is completely sold out (as is OKW), so its points can only be purchased by resale. Add ons are just a way to talk about existing members buying additional points through Disney. They do have lower minimum point requirements once you are already a member, so you don't have to load up with another 150 minimum. And they are for resorts that are open for sales to new members. When Beach Club Villas open for sales next year, that resort will be available for new members as well as add ons.

Not to confuse, but every once in a while Disney will offer add ons to members when it has purchased some points and wants to sell inventory from a sold out resort. These are small lots and generally are sold as add-ons. Many BWV members, for instance, have put their names on a list to let DVC know they are interested if any more points come available at BWV.

Does this help? Hope so.

By the way, WELCOME TO THE DIS BOARD! :bounce:

If you have any questions, just hit the "new thread" button at the bottom of the message list, post your question and you will certainly get replies. The posters on this board are very well informed and have great suggestions and opinions.

So, is there currently a work-out facility at the Beach Club? I like the fact that VWL has a new workout facility as part of the DVC add-on, I'm curious whether the Beach Club add on will have the same.

Just trying to weigh the pros and cons of a BC add on and speculate regarding some of the features of the resort. SAB is a big one.

CaptainMidnight...

When I visited the DVC sales office earlier this year, I asked about the BCV and Eagle Pines Villas. After they got past the shock of me even knowing about them (this board is WAY ahead of the general press releases), they did tell me a little about them.

One thing they did mention was that work out facilities are becoming much more of an attraction these days.....used to be no one wanted to exercise during vacation.....after all, walking those parks has to burn mega-calories!!! ;)

But now, it's an amenity many prospective members expect so they are planning to include DVC-only fitness facilities at BCV and EPV.

Of course, this was unofficial, subject to change without notice, and every other legal disclaimer they could come up with.

there is a gym/exercise room already located between Yacht/beach club they share it
I would not expect more.

the exercise/gym at VWL is wonderful - lots of great equipment - and a person is there
as long as it is opened. I just wish OKW was better. Non-DVC can use the equipment
they just paid for it - it is free to DVC members. You have to sign the book and show the
person your member id or your room key(id)

I also wonder if the BCV's will have a WV style lounge area for the DVC section. It is a nice perk for the Villas, given the afternoon rains in Florida. I don't remember exactly, but isn't there a community hall style room of the WV lounge?

The covered outdoor walkway to the WL villas is not as nice, but maybe it helps cut down on traffic. It looks like to me that travel to the BCVs will be through the BC resort, not by a separate outdoor walkway.

Hope there is not much road noise there, given the constant bus traffic from the road.

Will there be an additional quiet pool to accomodate the new volume?

Great pictures, thanks Doc. Looks like I see an elevator in the middle of the new construction. Looks like the new villas are physically attached to the Beachclub. I wonder if that is through the halls on all levels.

The villas are probably a pretty long walk from the beach club lobby. Still is pretty exciting.
