We were in WDW in July and DS had a seizure. While in the Celebration hospital a young lady was also brought in from WDW. She had had some trouble on the TOT. We knew it was bad as they were yelling and they were rushing around the ER. I saw here Mom and my heart just broke for the poor woman. All I could manage to do was give her a nod through the glass and clasped my hands to show we were praying for her. They whisked her out of ER I am sure to the intensive care unit. For a few weeks there was off and on again news. I know she was finally able to go home to the UK but have heard nothing more in the news. Can anyone tell me anything about her condition? I just remember her Mom's face and her tears and her asking, "Why, she was fine". I emailed the man from the newspaper in Orlando and they had no news. Anyone???

Hi there
I havent heard anymore of this girl, her name is Leanne Deacon, since she arrived home in the UK,she suffered a heart attack, shortly after feeling unwell. I know that they operated on her in Celebration, and that when she was transferred to Leicester Hospital that she was in a stable condition.
I do hope that your DS is well now :goodvibes

it's good to hear that she's alive.
From what i remember, she wasn't injured on TOT, rather it caused a pre-existing medical condition (that her family hadn't been aware of) to react.
I remember hearing about a brain aneurysm at the time. She'd ridden TOT multiple times, and then on that last time, something happened.
She didn't know she had something wrong with her, so she couldn't know not to ride it.

I have found the post from the other site, I do not know how to do links so I have written a note and will now type the post.
She had a brain haemorrhage and had the clot removed in the States, they did not think she would live and repeatedly asked her family to withdraw treatment and let her go. She is now in rehab but is starting to get some speech back and is in a wheelchair.

Thank you so , so much. I just remember being in the hospital and thinking how scared I was about not being at home with our regular Drs etc when this happened ....then this poor woman comes in with her DD who was fine and now was fighting for her life. One minute the ER Drs and nurses were singing BARNEY songs for DS and the next it was like a tv show. They all stood by the doors waiting for the ambulance to arrive. They pulled the curtains around the windows and went to work.
I was scared bring in a different state here this family was in a different country...alone......I knew we would be leaving sometime that day they were there indefinitly.....I quickly stopped my little pity party. I remember hearing that poor Mom crying and It just broke my heart. This was a VACATION and her daughter was so happy moments ago and now.....she was so ill. One of the nurses said she just kept asking if there was anyway she could have known because her daughter had a headace in the morning. I just can't imagine. I am so happy to hear that she is doing better. I woul dlike to send something along with a card. Thank you again for the address.

that's consistent with an aneurysm (and with a few other conditions as well, for example a cavernous hemangioma)....you usually don't know you have an aneurysm until it pops....(although the mother is correct in thinking that the headache might have been an early warning sign...however, headaches are so very common, i doubt anyone would ever think of something more sinister happening...especially in a teenager)
she's extraordinarily lucky to have survived it.....the fact that she can communicate using a picture board is a very good sign....
the human brain is actually a quite wonderful thing....it can develop new pathways in place of destroyed old ones.....but it takes a tremendous amount of time and patience and most of all courage and determination, which this girl must have lots of, to have made it through to this point....

well she's "home" in that she's back in the UK....but she lives in the hospital...
the doctors permitted her to go home for a few hours on Christmas, but she's not home...
she is in for a very long and very difficult rehabilitation....
