View Full Version : Bazzill only swaps?

Ok, I'm a little confused. And maybe it is because I've been super busy, not here and reading as regularly as in the past. But anyway, I'm trying to figure out the Bazzill swaps.

I always thought the idea behind swaps was for a group interested in the same "topic" - like the parks, or resorts, or whatever - would sign up to do borders, frames, and other embellishments to trade with each other and that part of the fun of those swaps was to see how each person chose to express their creativity. Including the sort of materials they choose to work with.

Isn't limiting to a specific brand of paper sort of contrary to that whole idea?

I know the ones I've participated in in the past were pretty open and free - everyone just did whatever they signed up for based on their interpretation, sent them to the hostess who then redistributed them. Wow! Some of these swaps seem to have a lot of rules and requirements.

Maybe I just don't get it.... :confused3 :confused3

The Bazzill only swaps help people be creative in their designs and use of embellishments but keep their creations "uniform" enough to look coordinated on a page. Having elements of each different color and pattern on the same page often doesn't work out. I have found that the Bazzill-only one always end up with more usable items.

I agree with you FantasticDisFan. Plus, as much as I do like Bazzill paper, it fades! I am not too worried about it as it will be in a closed album and not exposed to light. But when I went to one of my LSS, the owner was telling me how much she hates Bazzill, I needed it for a Bazzill only swap I did sign up for. I never heard anyone complain about it before. Then she showed me her display, and told me to check the top sheets before I took them and sure enough there were about 5 different colors where the top sheet was much lighter. These were not stored anywhere a window either. They were toward the back of the store. She told me she called the company and was told yep it fades, but not all the colors do.

WOW - I didn't know that about the bazzil. Thank you for that information I will have to be careful and look out for that.

I was going to respond that most of the boards I am on are much busier with swaps - but that is because they are not Disney only... and a few are usually bazzil and some are not.

Wow TWigs! Bazzill fades? that is good to know. It isn't my favorite paper anyway, but it is the best match to our school blue (and not that good either) that my LSS carries.

Interesting Havencruiser...I never thought about using a lot of things from a swap on a page or even a two page layout. Just one here and there. I like to have just a touch of difference to spice up a page. But then again maybe I just don't use embellishments as much as some do.

My opinion...
I am newbie and I'll love to try on different swaps and the rules doesn't bother me at all. I am in the bazzil only and also in the non bazzil swap. I think it would be fun to do different things. :confused3

I don't know if it does fades or not, I'll know when i see it. Also if someone doesn't want to participate doesn't have to.

You know, I had heard somewhere about Bazzill fading and I checked with my LSS. She has had problems with some of it fading (again, not stored by the window) and was looking into going with another type of CS.

It makes me sad to hear about the fading 'cuz I love all of the different textures they have.

I like the fact that each color has a specific name and if I want to make something to match something I received in a swap, then I know what to buy.

Yes I agree with Haven cruiser...I like to be able to match my photo matting paper or background and its easier with bazzil swaps. Then I know for sure what brand of paper I should be looking in for a color match. But to each his own....

Off to get warm and fuzzy.....

I'm participating in my first swap and it's a bazzil-only swap. As a first-time swapper it works well for me because I don't have to worry about what kind of paper to buy and I like that I can coordinate everything later.

As for the rule-heavy swaps...they're not for me...swapping should be fun! :thumbsup2

FantasticDisFamily
02-02-2006, 05:24 PM
Ok, well I guess the matching the matting paper would be helpful. Like I said just kind of wondering about the reason for it.

my opinion: some swaps have a lot of rules and that may be taking the "fun" out of swapping. I don't have issues with rules in general but there are some rules that I don't care for so I won't be participating. bazzill does fade, not a big deal and you are right if someone doesn't want to participate they don't have too, but we're all adults and we know that. no need to point it out. Enjoy swapping though. :teeth: maggie

This only works if the paper hasn't faded though. Good in therory, but might not work in reality.

I think it helps with consistency in the quality of the cardstock being used... so that everyone is using a good-quality cardstock. I've received some swap items back with cardstock that was thin enough to be called paper.

Bazzill just happens to be more widely available (at least on the internet) so many people have access to it. If there was another brand of good quality cardstock, I'd name that as well. For instance, I love Die Cuts with a View's white-core cardstock from Joann's, but I'm not sure everyone can buy it as easily. Close to My Heart has a good white-core stock too, but you can only buy it through consultants. Bazzill seems to be the most readily accessible. If anyone knows of another brand, point me in the right direction (cuz I'd love to not pay 45 cents a sheet too!)

Ok, I don't understand the whole "usable items" thing. Are you guys saying you are only doing a swap for a specific layout? :confused3 Then why would dates be so far into the future?

Maybe I just look at this differently but when I do participate in a swap, and yes PixieDust32 I know no one is required to participate, it is to have a stock to use for a particular type of photos I will scrap over time. So I never plan to use everything at once. As an example, the last swap I participated in was a Girl Scout swap...since DD is a GS I know I'll have photos of that type for several years and I'll use the swap pieces here and there as I do layouts in which 1 or 2 might be appropriate.

Or is something else being done with these? I guess I could see putting "kits" together or something but whatever...guess I'm just doomed to be :confused3

I love Color mates. It's what my LLS has been carrying for long time. Lots of colors and they coordinate like bazzil somewhat.

I think that's exactly the reason. :o)
I don't have a Joann's next to be so I have no clue what you are talking about LOL
My LSS only sells the cheap cardstock you would give your child to draw on. I buy the pack and give to to my 4 yo to play with

I stopped by lss the other evening & finally saw Bazzill. It is in the racks next to the racks of Colormates. My husband & I agreed we liked the colors of Colormate better for what we do - he takes a lot of photos & helps with the color combinations on a sb page. Both racks of Colormate & Bazzill were in the back of the store where there are no windows. I bet the reasoning goes along with what someone else mentioned earlier in this thread.

To the OP, I understand exactly what you are saying :)! I agree with a lot of what you have said. SinceI'm not crazy about Bazzill, I don't think I'll be in one of those swaps. I like the mix & match type swaps.

Oh well, if we all liked the same thing, it would be an awfully dull world rather than a warm & fuzzy one!

Just got back from my favorite scrapbook store and found lots of new things :woohoo: And lost of Bazzil paper ( I wrote the names down :teeth: )
But I need to finish my Magic Kingdom (fantasyland) swa, this was regular cardstock and I was a little bit scare  then I have the Color Bazzil, the Character meal among others! Ohh boy! Thank God, we got plenty of time with the Epcot one. :scared1: :scared: :coffee:

Cool! It was just my opinion. I do it more for fun a hobby and also because I got over a 1000 pictures of Disney vacations, so anything I can do helps. :wave2:

I personally love the bazzill swaps. They have been my favorite swaps so far! I love the look, and feel of the paper. Everything I get has been usable. Not to say other stuff hasn't been but I have found it is harder to coordinate the pieces with what I am scrapping so many of the items sit in their bags.
As for the fading..bazzill isn't the first to fade. I have seen other paper in the stores with fade marks. So I just won't grab the top few pieces. I think once it is home and in my binders it will be fine.
Plus another nice thing bazzill goes so nice with in their color palete.

I think the only paper I don't like is KI (Bazzill Paper) I find that it gets dirty fast. I was just in a swap that used KI and I had to work really fast then put it in a zippie. I too LOVE LOVE Bazzill paper. I love the feel and thickness of it. I have found other cardstock but it didn't have the texture so I didn't like it as much. I like the texture it give a plain page some humph LOL
am i explaining myself right or just going in circles. OK don't answer that I don't want to know

You've got a point, Joy. Bazzill is widely available at the LSS or on line. I love the Stampin' Up cardstock (even though it is not textured), but if you don't know a consultant, it's hard to find. I also like the CTMH cardstock because it has a white center that looks cool in paper tearing.

I'm trying to remember the name of another cardstock - is it American Craft? Some of the lss carry it.

PixieDust32 OMGosh! I *love* those!! They are too cute. ETA:  Doing a happy dance b/c I just realized I'm in your group! :woohoo:

Personally I really love to use bazzill. I just love the colors, the texture and the thickness. I like Colormates too, but my top choice would be the bazzill. So for me, Bazzill swaps are great. :thumbsup2

I like the swaps that have a seperate groups for bazzill and regular cs. I think that's the best of both worlds. Plus I really prefer to do page kit type of swaps and with that, it's much easier to match everything up. :smokin: (sorry just had to use this smilie. LOL!)

I like bazzill swaps for pretty much the same reasons mentioned. Easy to match, i've never had a problem with fading (and neither does my LSS that has carried bazzill for years in both of thier locations, other CS's we have had MAJOR problems with), and get more usuable items. If I get an item that I can't match to anything else, then often times I will not use it and it just sits in my swap piles.

I'm very interested reading about everyones different takes on the idea of rules/ no rules. I think it goes to show there is a lot of variety in scrapbooking now and I think thats great. I am happy to do this one with strict rules because to my mind you are almost getting a page kit back, and I plan (though my plans rarely come to fruition) to use all the elements on the one layout, and if I was scrapbooking on my own I would not use 2 similar but different reds say on one page. I am also happy because Bazzil is widely available online in the UK, unfortunately though I have a fairly substantial stash at home, I don't what the colours are called, so I will have to order a fresh bash.

Thank you all for letting a foreigner join in the fun, I am really looking forward to this one, I am getting ahead of myself for my Easter trip to DL with DD
