I heard that my personal favorite meet, the Karaoke Meet on Friday, November 30th has been cancelled? Is this true?

Somebody say it isn't so!!! :(

That's what I heard (figuratively speaking) Marsha say in chat last night, unless I misunderstood.

Cookie - please clean out your PM box!

This probably would be better off on the DIS-Con board. Moving it there.

OH NO... I was really looking forward to this one. I don't get in until 6pm that night so I am DIS-con time challenged. I need all the late night meets I can get.

Unless Kimonos is closed for the evening - there's nothing to prevent those who still want to do karaoke from gathering there on the 30th - even if it isn't one of the official activities any more.

Just out of curiosity, why was it called off?

Any update on this? I was really looking forward to seeing the DATW folks sing! :(

Hey, that's right! We were all supposed to meet for Karoake after DATW and the Fantasmic dessert party. Did anyone find out for sure if it's cancelled and why it was cancelled? I must have left chat the other night before that was announced. Oh, well, I seem to miss everything!

I was practicing in the shower for this one! I guess I will have to now serenade the Fantasyland meet people. I will be wearing a newspaper hat and no pants (just Star Wars boxers with Yodas and stuff on it). :)

Barb, you'll need to double check your 'sent messages' and your messages from beyond '10 days' ago. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks, Tia. I checked the sent messages file and it was jammed. I dumped just about everything I didn't think I needed. :) :) I should be clear now! :D

It was mentioned in chat the other night - I changed the title so that maybe someone with the answer will post.

Or maybe not.

Nothing's stopping anyone from spontaneously going over to karaoke night (unless, of course, they don't HAVE it on Friday...) - it just may not be a "hosted" event. Sounds like more fun to me!!! ;) :bounce:

I just called the Swan to get more info, and karaoke is available at Kimonos nightly from 9-11 p.m. Keep in mind that Kimonos is a RESTAURANT and not a bar like Jellyrolls or places at Pleasure Island. I asked if there was a cover charge if people are just there for the entertainment, and the woman I spoke with said she would find out and call me back. If you enjoy sushi, you'll love Kimonos. Here's the menu: http://www.swandolphin.com/restaurants/kimonos/menu.cfm?menu_id=3

I heard back from the woman at the Swan. There is no cover charge for Karaoke at Kimonos, and it's up to you whether or not you eat or drink something. Just realize that Kimonos closes at 11 p.m., so there's not a whole lot of time for singing.

OK... Well, we can sing for an hour then. Sounds good to me!:):):)

The karaoke mini meet is not cancelled however please keep in mind that none of the ‘mini meets’ are officially sponsored by the DIS or the DIS Convention Therefore they are extras and officially we do not have to keep track of them. However we did scheduled them to enable as many as possible to be added to the event itinerary and around the big ‘official’ convention events. We will also provide an itinerary in your convention check in packet at registration that will list any changes to the events (date, time, location, etc).

Personally I have to wonder why some of y’all are so concerned with these since you are not going to the convention? I hope it is just not an attempt to be hurtful or cause trouble? After all this convention is really all about friendship and stress free fun and enjoyment.

Speaking as someone who won't be coming to the Con itself and probably won't be there for any of the mini-meets either but who was still curious about this -- I wanted to know because it sounded like fun and I was going to be disappointed for those friends who *would* be able to make it.

For those of us who aren't going to be able to go, we're "living" the Con through the posts of our friends. I will probably "attend" each and every mini-meet through reports and pictures. So we have a right to be curious too :)

Just out of curiosity back atcha, Linda -- what made you think that being curious about an event that one wouldn't be able to attend anyway was in any way trying to be hurtful or cause trouble?

Just because we haven't paid to attend the official events of DIS Con, does not mean people who will be there during that time don't want to attend those other events that were scheduled that we CAN attend. Not sure why anyone would consider a question about it hurtful??

On the other hand, I do consider hurtful the attitude of "you didn't pay, so why would you ask about it" - I sincerely hope I misunderstood, and that wasn't where the people running the show were coming from...
