reservations with Points and Cash

Ok... going in Dec of 06. But unsure of dates. I am thinking of booking 1st and last night in cash and the bulk of the reservations in points. Could someone please explain the cancellation policy for the cash reservations and if I can later convert them to a points reservation (or not). Thank you.

The cancellation policy for a cash reservation is 5 days prior. Not sure on the conversion into points reservations.
